Then Fang Senyan opened his eyes, and naturally made a move to push himself up, but the intense pain transmitted from his chest made him immediately cry out and collapse back down, gasping for breath!
That feeling, the pain generated by the collision of fractured ribs, caused large drops of cold sweat to break out on Fang Senyan's forehead. He managed to calm his breathing only after gasping for quite a while. He tried to regulate his breathing, feeling something elastic like a rope supporting him beneath his body, yet there was also a strange, swinging, suspended sensation. He couldn't help but turn his head to glance to the side, then immediately turned his head back, closing his eyes to adapt to the slight dizziness.
It turned out that beneath Fang Senyan was still a bottomless abyss! About fifty meters below, a layer of hazy mist permeated the air, completely obscuring the bottom. The space above Fang Senyan was likewise shrouded in mist. Yet, Fang Senyan now found himself clinging to the side of a massive web, supported by silken strands only as thick as a finger, seemingly condensed from some kind of deep black colloid, incredibly tough, and possessing a slight stickiness.
Perhaps less than three meters from Fang Senyan, this colossal web was breached by a large hole, clearly the damage caused when that demonic statue knight plummeted from above. Its terrifying weight obviously exceeded the web's ability to bear, thus preventing it from sharing the fate of swinging in a makeshift hammock with Fang Senyan in the air.
There was an indescribable fishy odor in the air. Fang Senyan gritted his teeth, painstakingly attempting to free his left hand from the web's entanglement, but without success. Helpless, he could only tear off the sleeve that was stuck fast. Fortunately, Fang Senyan soon discovered that the web's stickiness seemed only particularly effective against fur or similar materials; human skin only retained a slight tackiness. So, with a few quick movements, he stripped down to just a pair of shorts, clutching his chest to suppress the severe pain as he slowly crawled toward the rock face.
In the real world, Fang Senyan had seen countless insect husks hanging forlornly on webs—the result of a spider paralyzing its prey, injecting digestive fluids, and vigorously sucking out the contents... much like a Coke bottle whose contents have been completely emptied... Fang Senyan absolutely did not wish for such a grim fate to befall his own body, so he had to leave quickly before the weaver of this giant web came to patrol its territory.
A mere twenty-odd meters, and Fang Senyan took nearly ten minutes to crawl that distance, drenched in cold sweat, his face looking extremely grim. This was primarily due to the ferocious, direct impact inflicted by the demonic statue knight. The power of that lance strike was certainly no less than the troll's home-run swing!
Under normal circumstances, Contractors facing such a mounted knight would typically be within the heavily regulated confines of the Bloody Chessboard, rather than experiencing a full-force charge and thrust as before. That Fang Senyan encountered such an opponent in this manner could only be attributed to reaching the absolute nadir of bad luck.
Fang Senyan finally managed to escape the sticky, immense web and gained stable footing on an outcrop of the towering rock face, panting heavily. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his head. The sensation was abrupt, striking without warning, momentarily feeling as if a thousand files were churning inside his skull, causing his vision to flicker intermittently. Immediately following this, a large swarm of shadows suddenly darted out from the distant mist, moving with startling agility, rushing over like a black storm, roaring as they swooped down!
However, at this moment, the massive web demonstrated its extraordinary utility. The approaching black storm suddenly executed a rapid, high-speed turn upwards, but it had already become sparse and scattered. Fang Senyan's intense headache immediately subsided, as the web became laden with clumps of basketball-sized dark shapes, thrashing and emitting fierce, desperate shrieks.
Upon closer inspection, these dark shapes were none other than the same type of vampire bats he had encountered upon first entering this place! Yet, both in size and level of savagery, they far surpassed their brethren killed earlier. Some of them possessed fangs easily exceeding twenty centimeters in length, marked with dull yellow patterns and dripping with specks of viscous fluid—a terrifying sight indeed. But no matter how frantically they struggled, their downy fur was firmly glued to the highly elastic spider silk. Fang Senyan could shed his clothes and escape by relying on the relative smoothness of human skin; these creatures couldn't simply tear off their own hides to flee!
Fang Senyan instantly understood the source of his prior headache: these vampire bats were clearly emitting incredibly powerful ultrasonic waves to navigate while flying.
When hundreds or thousands of bats combined their emissions, the resulting confluence of ultrasound had formed an invisible, massive assault on Fang Senyan. Had his physical stamina not been high enough to offer some resistance to such attacks, someone with a weaker constitution like Phil might have been directly stunned into unconsciousness.
At this point, the mist below surged violently, and an incomparably swift, gigantic black shadow actually leaped out from within! It appeared incapable of true flight, yet its leaping power was terrifyingly astonishing; it bounded along the rock face as if flying! Each spring covered an astonishing twenty to thirty meters, and it moved without a sound, entirely like a colossal phantom from the darkness.
In a mere few tens of seconds, this table-sized shadow had landed directly onto the vast web, systematically targeting the vampire bats hanging there like clustered fruit and beginning to feed. Only then did Fang Senyan clearly see that this was, in fact, a colossal spider, boasting eight incredibly powerful long legs, with four pairs of pitch-black compound eyes growing on its head, which gleamed like burning black gems in the dim light. Its body was covered in hairs like steel needles, interwoven to form black and yellow stripes, bearing a striking resemblance to the pelt of a fierce tiger. Its fangs were as sharp as hooks, emitting a faint light at their needle-sharp tips, from which a colorless, transparent fluid occasionally dripped, etching deep pits into the rock.
Strangely, Fang Senyan felt absolutely no threat emanating from this beastly spider! He even felt a sense of peace and tranquility watching it. Fang Senyan let out a despairing groan; although this was the first time he had encountered such a situation, in this desperate predicament, even his bare instincts could tell him that this terrifying spider's perception far exceeded Fang Senyan's, perhaps even misleading his senses to prevent him from fleeing!
Instinctively, Fang Senyan activated the "Insight" ability, finally obtaining some of its basic intelligence: "Death's Breath" Race: Eight-Eyed Giant Spider, Tier Three Legendary Creature. Lifespan: ??? years Strength: ??? Agility: ??? Stamina: ??? Perception: ??? Charm: ??? Intelligence: ??? Spirit: ??? Base Attributes: 7-7 Biological Characteristics: ???? Description: This is a terrifying creature resulting from a perfect combination of an Eight-Eyed Giant Spider and a Jumping Spider. It is said to have appeared during the most glorious eras of Goblin and Dwarven civilization.
As he reviewed this information, Fang Senyan once again felt the key within the Nightmare Mark... the severed finger of the Infinite... begin to grow warm. Meanwhile, the terrifying spider, "Death's Breath," was not idle. It effortlessly clamped down on one vampire bat after another with its sharp, massive, terrifying fangs, ending their ceaseless struggling. Its digestive fluid seemed exceptionally potent; injection was all it took to immediately take effect, breaking down the victim's tissues into nutrients rich for it, which it quickly sucked clean.
Fang Senyan was originally a rough-and-ready sort, but the mere thought of being sucked dry like a refreshing beverage by this savage creature sent a shiver down his spine. In that moment, he felt that throwing himself off the edge and falling to his death would be a cleaner end!
However, he also noticed that the spot he was clinging to wasn't an absolute vertical cliff; it was possible to climb diagonally downwards. For an ordinary person, this might only be achievable by professional rock climbers with gear, but for a Contractor, it wasn't overly difficult. A spark of the will to survive flickered in his heart.
Yet, the moment Fang Senyan shifted his body, the "Death's Breath" instantly stopped feeding and raised its head. Without any discernible movement, it had already affixed itself with incredible swiftness to the rock face nearest to Fang Senyan, its calm, dark surface appearing utterly unrippled! Its eight fiery red compound eyes fixed intensely upon Fang Senyan’s body, yet it made no move to attack—oh, wait, it didn't move its mouth... It was hard to imagine such a behemoth performing such nimble movements on the perilous rock wall!
At this critical juncture, Fang Senyan suddenly recalled the introduction regarding Death's Breath. Now alone and with nothing left to fear, he immediately pulled the severed finger key from the private space within the Nightmare Mark! He laid it flat in his open palm!
Instantly, the huge, ferocious Legendary creature displayed a sluggishly gentle demeanor, turned its broad back, and slowly crawled back onto its web to deal with the remaining vampire bats, treating Fang Senyan as if he were completely invisible.
