As Zheng Zha advanced, he summoned the monsters of the Death God Legion. With all his current Vampire energy, he could manifest thousands of these creatures. These dog-headed brutes, nearly three meters tall and wielding strangely shaped long blades, densely filled the surrounding alleyways, waiting silently for Zheng Zha’s command.
"Kill. Slaughter everyone you see!" Zheng Zha took a deep breath, then roared, pointing the Hu Po long blade in his hand toward the depths of the base.
The dog-headed monsters let out howls, charging out into the alleyways with their bizarre long knives. Though seemingly large and clumsy, their movements were incredibly agile. Moreover, these creatures possessed the special skill of the Mummy Guards; they ignored Earth's gravity, scrambling along walls and ceilings as they moved forward... In a large hall just outside the office alley, at least a hundred guards were on high alert, their firearms trained on the corridor entrance, having learned that the G-Virus carrier had gone berserk and begun killing.
The base’s defense mechanisms had been fully activated, with guards continuously pouring into the facility. Several key halls were already secured by hundreds of sentinels, as the Umbrella Corporation's directors had been confirmed dead.
Thus, a direct order came down from the highest echelons of Umbrella: Destroy the G-Virus carrier before he can inflict further damage upon the base.
These guards were clad in armor resembling biosuits, and their weapons had been upgraded to the most powerful military-grade firearms. Several even carried shoulder-mounted anti-tank seekers. This hundred-strong contingent formed a barricade at the corner of the alley. No matter how terrifying the G-Virus carrier’s strength was, flesh remained flesh, and this barricade was not the only checkpoint established.
Essentially, all passageways and halls within the entire base were under lockdown.
"Careful! Shoot on sight anyone coming around that corner. No survivors!" a man in a black suit roared at the guards.
He held a communicator in his other hand. After addressing the guards, he barked into the device, "Jett, the G-Virus carrier hasn't arrived yet, so don't activate the Tyrant on your end for now. We here might... Wait, what in God's name is that?" The first Death God Legion monster sprinted past overhead on the ceiling.
Immediately following it was a dense swarm of Death God Legion creatures. Dog-headed, human-bodied monsters poured out from the alley corner one after another. All the guards froze momentarily, then roared and squeezed their triggers, their expressions a mixture of terror and shock—not just because of the sudden appearance of these monsters, but because of their seemingly endless numbers.
The first creature to emerge was not scattered by the initial volley, as the guards were still stunned. By the time they opened fire, it had already run a considerable distance across the ceiling. Their bullets only managed to shatter its thighs. When the creature fell from above, its shattered legs instantly regenerated. The guards, having seen its legs destroyed, had let down their guard. Before they could react to its full restoration, the monster, brandishing its strange long blade, charged into their ranks.
The closest guard only managed a strangled cry before the blade swept horizontally across his head; a head rolled far away. Several guards standing beside him screamed, aiming their submachine guns at the creature. The resulting barrage shredded its chest, sending shrapnel and dust flying, but the bullets had struck the wrong place—this creature was no ordinary human. Despite its mangled torso, it swung its blade fiercely, killing one and wounding several others. One guard was cleanly bisected at the neck, while the others suffered various cuts from the strange long knife. A chorus of agonizing cries erupted from the guard contingent.
"Hold! Hold the line!" the man in black blurted out, a cliché line, as he simultaneously retreated backward. More Death God Legion monsters continued to pour out from the corner of the passage. Gradually, the combined firepower of over a hundred submachine guns began to falter. The creatures were not just running on the ground; they were charging out from the walls and ceilings, utterly ignoring gravity. More crucially, their bodies were composed of sand; they would not disappear unless their heads were pulverized. Slowly, they began to break through the guards' defensive line.
Seeing their black-suited leader flee, the remaining guards hesitated. Several dozen decided to retreat as well, which naturally allowed the Death God Legion monsters to press the attack even harder. With the firepower of several dozen submachine guns gone, the line finally collapsed. Only the guards carrying anti-tank missiles reacted quickly enough; they shouldered their weapons and fired them toward the edge of the hall. With several deafening explosions, nearly a hundred Death God Legion monsters were blown to shreds. Dust mixed with hurricane-force winds threw all the guards to the ground. When they looked up, a relentless stream of monsters was still surging from the corner of the corridor, the nearest one already plunging into the mass of guards.
Gunfire was undeniably effective, but these weapons lacked bayonets, and the Death God Legion monsters stood nearly three meters tall. Once they breached the crowd, a sweep of their blades instantly felled over a dozen guards. The remaining several dozen guards finally broke ranks and fled after the man in black.
The man in black kept glancing back at the unfolding chaos. Seeing the monsters engage the crowd, he finally screamed frantically into his communicator: "Reinforcements! We need support! Too many monsters in the office alley! The feed is up on the monitors... Call for support! Divert all reserve guards from outside the base!" In the monitoring room, several men in black suits stared in stunned silence. They watched clearly via the corridor surveillance feeds—at least a thousand Death God Legion monsters were moving through the passages, and among them was the G-Virus carrier... What perplexed them most was why this carrier was coexisting peacefully with these monsters. These creatures, resembling Egyptian statues, were slaughtering the guards who hadn't managed to escape—at least seventy or eighty had been hacked into pulp—yet the monsters continued their relentless surge toward the central hall of the research base.
"Re-reinforcements! Yes, mobilize all reserve guards from the weapons testing base! Damn it, this place is about to be overrun! There are at least a thousand monsters running rampant in the base! Tell them that beyond some data, nothing there is critical—leave only a hundred guards on standby, and send everyone else here!" One of the men in black suits shouted hoarsely into his communicator, looking utterly frantic.
The others among the black-suited group also appeared frantic. Another pulled out his communicator and yelled, "Unseal Tyrants Three through Seven! Bring them to the central hall to wait! Damn it, the research base is full of vital experimental materials! And there are hundreds of Crawlers frozen below. If the power is cut... none of us will survive!" On the monitor screens, Zheng Zha was indeed advancing toward the research base's central hall; in fact, he was destroying everything in his path. The Hu Po blade had an immense attack radius, and the sharpness of its energy slashes was astonishing. He walked at the rear of the Death God Legion monsters. As they dispersed into the various side passages, he followed, relentlessly slashing forward. The surrounding steel walls and machinery were utterly devastated. Every place he passed erupted in sparks, looking as if a herd of rhinos had trampled through; everything became ruins, and this path of destruction continued toward the central hall. Reaching that point, Zheng Zha could destroy the entire research base’s power supply—this was precisely what terrified the men in black.
The black-suited individuals were clearly high-ranking Umbrella executives. Their orders were quickly relayed to another facility situated behind the research base: the Weapons Testing Base. The reserve guards stationed there mobilized swiftly. Thousands of soldiers formed orderly lines and began a jog. About ten minutes later, the Weapons Testing Base was left with only a hundred or so security personnel and a few semi-humanoid defensive robotic weapons. While this testing base was normally far more heavily guarded than the research base, it was now at its most vulnerable moment.
Not far from this base, the remaining members of the Central Continent team stood shrouded in darkness. Chu Xuan looked toward the Weapons Testing Base. "Begin, Luo Gandao... dismantle the perimeter defenses."
