Feeling their chests swell with pride at the pirates' questioning, the crew members of the Bell and Goblet naturally began to boast drunkenly and with great flourish. They proclaimed that the man before them was their new boatswain, Rock from the mysterious East—a fearsome and powerful figure who not only commanded a band of broken men to wipe out hundreds of Spanish pigs but also single-handedly engaged and eliminated a Soul Jar corpse from the Voodoo cult. Truly remarkable.
Nearly all the pirates had witnessed the sheer ferocity of the Spanish marines, and most had dealt with Spaniards themselves, so Fang Senyan's organizational skills didn't strike them as overly impressive. However, the tale of him fighting a Voodoo Soul Jar one-on-one made them all suck in a cold breath, their gazes instantly shifting. It was much like the Battle of Changban Slope: even though Cao Cao's army routed Liu Bei and cost him his wife and son, it ultimately served only as a backdrop to elevate Zhao Yun’s heroism—people invariably prefer to revel in individual acts of valor, while collective achievements seldom capture the same spotlight.
Furthermore, Fang Senyan had faced a Soul Jar! That terrible, powerful monster derived from the Voodoo cult. In the minds of these pirates, the Voodoo cult was eternally synonymous with the mysterious and the dreadful. More crucially, the Spanish merchant Fernandez controlled not just one, but a full three Soul Jar corpses! Besides the one Fang Senyan dealt with, nicknamed "Ear Chewer," there were also "Finger Gnawer" and "Rotten Nose"—two other horrific monsters that had caused immense suffering and left indelible impressions on every pirate who had encountered them.
The veteran pirates also keenly noted the precise wording used by the Bell and Goblet crew: "single-handedly engaged and eliminated" rather than "single-handedly engaged and defeated." This suggested that the boast was based on concrete fact rather than mere drunken exaggeration. "Defeated" implies the enemy might have escaped, leaving nothing behind, whereas "eliminated" signifies that at least a corpse remained to attest to the battle's reality. This meant that even if there was some exaggeration in the rumors aboard the Bell and Goblet, the truth that remained after squeezing out the air was substantial.
Soon, pirates approached Fang Senyan, clutching their own liquor bags to offer him a toast. Most of these pirates approached him with genuine respect. Nearly all of them had lost friends or kin to the Soul Jar corpses during the boarding action earlier that day. In Voodoo lore, those killed by a Soul Jar had their very souls cursed, condemned to eternal torment. Only a warrior who slew a Soul Jar could grant them release. Naturally, they sought Fang Senyan’s blessing for their departed comrades.
This "Rock, the Sailor from the East," proved remarkably genial, drinking deeply and laughing loudly, which was completely contrary to the savage reputation he was rumored to possess. In truth, Fang Senyan discovered that drinking with these pirates enhanced his Reputation score, increasing it anywhere from 10 to 30 points, though 10 was the more common increment. Regrettably, the magnitude of this increase was tied to his Charm stat; otherwise, after this session, his Reputation would have soared by at least a thousand points. Even so, he gained over 300 points, pushing him past the threshold to 613/3000 points.
Fang Senyan also found an unexpected bonus: among the varied spirits poured from the pirates' bags, there happened to be the exact types required for his Milestone: Drunkard—the Ramm Potato Rum and the Coocuss Rum. This allowed him to upgrade his Milestone: Drunkard to Milestone: Drunkard, which also brought a corresponding boost to its attributes. Simultaneously, a notification from the Nightmare Imprint chimed in:
“You have completed the promotion for Milestone: Drunkard.” “You have acquired the Title: Drunkard.” “Drunkard: Upon consuming an alcoholic beverage, your Hit Rate is reduced by 2%, and your Critical Hit Rate is increased by 6% for 60 minutes.” “Only one Title effect can be active at any given time. Do you wish to equip the Title/Drunkard now?” “Advancement Milestone: Connoisseur unlocked.” “Conditions to achieve: Consume the following types of alcoholic beverages.” 1, French "Château Carcanieux Brandy" 2, English "Chivas Regal Cask Strength Whisky" 3, Russian "Polkino Vodka" 4, French "Crystal Champagne" 5, Spanish "Cava Sparkling Wine" 6, Chinese Maotai 1950 Vintage Reserve. Note: This Milestone can be achieved in any world.
Fang Senyan stared at the names of these six liquors with a degree of helplessness. For all his worldly knowledge, he had only ever seen advertisements for the Maotai, and the "1950 Vintage Reserve" part left him utterly bewildered. As for the others, he hadn't even heard of most of the brands, let alone tasted them. However, the one certainty Fang Senyan possessed was that acquiring these specific liquors through purchase would likely cost an exorbitant amount of money—and, more critically, might be impossible even with wealth. He could only shake his head with a wry smile and mentally set those demanding requirements aside for the time being.
Despite the relatively primitive brewing techniques of the era—the rum, lacking distillation and refinement, wasn't particularly potent—Fang Senyan had downed at least two or three pounds of it and now felt his stomach distend, signaling an urgent need to relieve himself. Dusk had settled, and the tropical island was suffused with a unique aroma, a mixture of sweet coconut and the faint salinity of the sea breeze. Fang Senyan walked unevenly across the sand, finding a secluded spot to unbuckle his belt and relieve himself. After finishing, he sighed with satisfaction. The alcohol had left him thirsty, so he suddenly craved fresh coconut water. He searched around, circling the beach for nearly a kilometer before finding a coconut palm laden with fruit. Though climbing was difficult, Fang Senyan now possessed 8 Agility, allowing him to reach the top after a strenuous ascent. Just as he reached out to pluck a coconut, he distinctly heard several muffled, heavy breaths coming from the distance.
Though Fang Senyan was not yet married, he was certainly no novice. He immediately recognized the sounds as a woman’s low moans, clearly not indicative of pain, but rather, explicitly, of sexual pleasure. Yet, this woman's sounds were exquisitely seductive, weaving through the mind like an ephemeral silken thread, tantalizing and pulling at him, causing a definite heat to rise within Fang Senyan.
Instinctively, utilizing the height advantage from the treetop, he peered down and spotted a man and a woman engaged in sex on the sand. The woman had voluminous blonde hair, her two tanned, shapely legs wrapped around the man’s waist, her humming breath sounding like a sorrowful plea. Fang Senyan’s gaze involuntarily fixed on those long legs, and his mind immediately launched a comparison against the similar pair belonging to the female lead in Transformers 3 upon her introduction—he ultimately judged this woman superior.
The pair had clearly been at it for a while, as Fang Senyan soon witnessed the man tremble violently a few times before both quieted down. The woman then brazenly bathed herself near the water's edge, tossing back her long hair. Though the darkness obscured fine details, one could still make out the alluring silhouette of her naked form. The man, even while dressing, exuded a lazy grace, every movement clean and sharp, unconsciously evoking the image of a languid leopard.
At that moment, the man suddenly whipped his head around, looking toward the tree with a low, guarded voice:
“Who’s there?”
His voice was deep and magnetic. Fang Senyan’s heart tightened, nearly triggering a defensive posture, but thankfully, the man wasn't looking directly at him; instead, he was quickly pulling on his clothes. Soon, a solid, honest-looking fellow approached from the distance. Seemingly aware of the impropriety of what he might witness, this newcomer stood back, turning his body away in evident distress:
“My apologies for interrupting you at this hour, Mr. S.p.a.r.r.o.w., but your father instructed me that if you weren't seen within ten minutes, poor Gibbs would be strung up on the yardarm to bake in the sun for three whole days…”
Fang Senyan suddenly felt a tightness in his chest. In this world of the Caribbean, he realized, there could only be one man addressed as Mr. S.p.a.r.r.o.w.! Then, the man below spoke with his characteristic languid tone:
“Gibbs, relax. My father is a kind and forgiving old coot. He’s just trying to scare you.”
Gibbs’ voice was laced with terror:
“Mr. S.p.a.r.r.o.w., I agree with your assessment, but I must insist that he is running out of time. Please, come back with me immediately. The Captains’ meeting is about to conclude. Even if the Captain was joking, I suspect it was a serious and terrifying jest.”
“Hush, Gibbs. I must at least steal one last kiss from my dear Sally. The thought that her husband gets to enjoy this honor every single day makes me positively mad with jealousy.”
Mr. S.p.a.r.r.o.w.’s words clearly delighted the woman, Sally, whose voice, though slightly husky, was rich with seductive charm:
“H, Jack, hurry back. Don't worry about me. Your father must have something important if he’s pushing you like this.”
Fang Senyan’s eyes narrowed slightly, a faint smile touching his lips:
“I certainly never expected to run into you under these circumstances, our protagonist—Mr. Jack S.p.a.r.r.o.w.”
