Even Zheng Zha couldn't argue with that, as the time he'd spent killing the Scorpion King was a full zero days, whereas in the original plot they'd only had seven days. He felt it was unwise to rush over there; if the "Main God" decided to play another trick, he wouldn't even have time to properly mourn. "This Spear of Judgment is quite a treasure—immensely powerful and convenient to use. The only drawback is that I have to retrieve it manually after every throw. However, I think I can exchange for a C-rank auxiliary item at the 'Main God' station, something called an Arrow Retriever. I need to check the auxiliary items available when we get back."
Zheng Zha leaned against the edge of the airship, gazing at the endless yellow sands below as he muttered to himself.
"Main God? What is that?" Jonathan’s voice cut through the air beside Zheng Zha. The man was holding a bottle of tequila, sipping as he spoke.
Zheng Zha turned to look at him, then grinned, "Are you alright now? You and your sister slept from yesterday until this morning; everything okay?" Jonathan burst into laughter and slapped Zheng Zha on the shoulder. "Fine, fine. It's just been a while since we had an adventure like this, so the sudden plunge felt strange. A few more times and we'll get used to it, don't worry, hahaha!" Zheng Zha responded with a strange look, "Are you absolutely sure you want a few more times?" Jonathan quickly waved his hands. "Uh, I was just kidding. Don't take me seriously." Zheng Zha let out a hearty laugh, pulled a cigarette from his breast pocket and tossed it to Jonathan, then lit one for himself. Puffing on it, he said, "This time, I really put you all through it. Honestly, I could have managed this adventure alone, but I’m not nearly fluent enough in Ancient Egyptian.
While I can mimic Qi Tengyi, I can only flexibly use the characters he taught me. This situation, sigh."
Jonathan lit his cigarette and took a deep drag, immediately exclaiming, "What a good smoke! I don't know about the mimicking or whatever—you're clearly not from this world—but you certainly love adventure. In fact, ever since our last foray in the City of the Dead, we all felt like something was missing." Zheng Zha patted his shoulder. "You mean the treasures you found during the expedition? Hahaha! I truly thank you this time; otherwise, I really wouldn't have known what to do alone." Jonathan became intrigued, his face alight with longing. "No need for thanks, but about the Scorpion King’s treasure—are there really three diamonds the size of a football? That sounds incredibly exciting."
"Pardon me, I only mentioned one diamond the size of a football, didn't I?" Regardless, the group successfully returned to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead. The excavation work progressing there was clearly going smoothly; with the help of the Guardian tribe, they no longer feared running out of supplies even in the desert. Furthermore, local desert bandits dared not target the construction team. In short, everyone was pouring their full effort into the digging. In the time it took Zheng Zha and his group to travel back and forth a few times, the second level was largely excavated.
"However, we encountered some dangers. For instance, yesterday, a worker unearthed a scarab beetle, and the palm of his left hand was instantly mangled from the bite. If that scarab had escaped, the worker might have been burrowed into by it," an Elder reported the day's work situation to the bearded man in black. But when he mentioned the scarab beetle, a look of utter terror crossed the Elder’s face.
Zheng Zha slapped his forehead, quickly saying, "Right, that's something I didn't think through carefully enough. Here's what we'll do: have the curator purchase some flamethrowers in Cairo. This is only the second level; when we dig deeper, large swarms of scarabs will appear, so flamethrowers will be necessary to deal with them. Also, prioritize excavating that cliff where the statue is—the Golden Book of the Sun fell beneath that cliff. And once the altar is unearthed, preserve it carefully. Don't worry about any broken pieces. In short, while we are gone, remember to safeguard two things: the altar and the Golden Book of the Sun. Absolutely remember this."
The Elder nodded repeatedly. Zheng Zha paused, then turned to the bearded man in black. "Can you help me procure some things? I need explosives, a large quantity of them. Oh, right, if you plan to search for the Scorpion King’s treasure too, perhaps you should bring some weapons?" The bearded man in black immediately chuckled. "Rest assured, my friend, I have already instructed my clansmen to bring a large cache of weapons. As for explosives, that won't be a problem either. Of course, the power of those explosives will be far less than the bombs you currently possess."
Zheng Zha smiled, saying no more, leaving the bearded man in black to organize his tribesmen. He returned to his tent to study the Spear of Judgment and that Death God Bracelet—these were his greatest gains from entering the The Mummy world. These two plot items, putting the Spear of Judgment aside for a moment, were worth no less than a B-rank Legendary Magic Weapon.
The power of this Spear of Judgment was entirely determined by his Vampire energy and internal force. In other words, this weapon was fundamentally different from firearms or projectiles. The stronger his power became, the stronger the spear’s efficacy. Last time, he had only channeled about fifty percent of his total Vampire energy and internal force, yet he had thrown the Spear of Judgment over a thousand meters, achieving a blast radius of nearly ten meters. What if he poured in all his Vampire energy and internal force? Wouldn't the power double?
The other plot item was the Death God Bracelet. Once the Scorpion King was killed, he could use it to summon an army of Death Gods—fifty times the number of Mummy Guards. With his current Vampire energy, he could summon six Mummy Guards when exerting maximum effort. He had experimented before: after summoning six Mummy Guards, using the summoning spell again would cause those six to vanish and six new ones to appear. This meant he couldn't just settle in one place and amass a Mummy Guard legion to sweep across the entire horror movie world; such a scenario was impossible. But what about the Death God Bracelet? Three hundred Death God creatures, monsters nearly three meters tall, wielding massive, long sword-like weapons—their destructive power and combat strength would far exceed the Mummy Guards. And he could summon three hundred at once. In essence, completing this bracelet quest would instantly elevate the team's combat capability to a terrifying level, making them fearless in many horror movie worlds.
Yet, it was only logical that an item this powerful would require a quest of terrifying difficulty.
Zheng Zha gently caressed the two artifacts. As he did so, a thought struck him, and he quickly scrutinized the fine scratches on both items. Both surfaces were densely engraved with countless peculiar symbols and arcane characters. He recognized some of these characters from protective talismans he had seen before. As he slowly channeled his internal force and Vampire energy into the Spear of Judgment, the energies flowed across these symbols and characters, moving like flowing, luminous water across the surface. Only after this flow subsided would the Spear of Judgment pulse with golden light—this, he surmised, was the source of its power.
Zheng Zha suddenly recalled a statement Chu Xuan had once made: if ancient evolved humans truly created the "Main God," and if, as he understood it, the monsters in these horror movie worlds were likely the enemies ancient humans faced, then this Spear of Judgment and the Death God Bracelet might be weapons or tools crafted by them long ago. It was akin to the artifact creation by immortals in ancient China—items made using non-technological means, imprinted with mysterious symbols and characters. In other words, the Spear of Judgment or the Death God Bracelet could potentially be mass-produced!
"Damn it, if that’s true, that’s terrifying, isn't it? If every team member had a Spear of Judgment and a Death God Bracelet, first summoning over a thousand Death God troops, and then everyone threw their spears—no matter how strong the enemy, it would be useless! Hahaha!" Zheng Zha laughed to himself, knowing full well his conjecture was impossible. Setting aside other issues, he couldn't even recognize these mysterious symbols. If Qi Tengyi were still alive, perhaps that man could recognize some of the markings. Coupled with Chu Xuan's powerful analytical skills and his own material knowledge, there might be a sliver of hope. But if he had to manufacture the Spear of Judgment or the Death God Bracelet himself, he probably couldn't even forge a decent gold model.
"Regardless, let everyone revive. My strength alone is insufficient. Chu Xuan, I will revive you first—do not refuse me! Lend me your power!" Zheng Zha placed the two plot items into his dimensional ring, then walked out of the tent, heading slowly toward the bustling construction site above the City of the Dead, leaping towards it.
