“RRY……..” Fang Senyan murmured, simultaneously shutting and double-locking the ward door. The two policemen hadn't clearly heard him and curiously asked, "WHAT?"
Fang Senyan was already stepping close to one officer. Under the man's startled gaze, he dropped his knee into the officer’s lower abdomen! The sharp pain nearly made the policeman scream, but his training kicked in immediately, and he managed to throw an uppercut toward his assailant’s chin.
Under normal circumstances, the man in front of him would have stumbled back, clutching his face, but the harsh reality was that the enemy merely shook his head slightly before delivering a heavy blow to the back of the officer’s head, plunging him into unconsciousness.
Although Fang Senyan was still a novice in terms of fighting technique, riddled with openings, his innate abilities ensured that the enemy’s close-quarters counterattack was severely weakened, creating an extremely unfair situation!
The other policeman, realizing something was terribly wrong, immediately reached for his sidearm from under his armpit. But Fang Senyan hooked and kicked out with his right foot, sending the nearby chair hurtling across the room with a whistling sound. The officer quickly dodged sideways; the chair smashed against the wall with a pa la, breaking into pieces. However, by the time he regained his balance and aimed his gun again, Fang Senyan was already upon him, clamping one hand around the officer's throat and slamming him against the wall!
The officer immediately slumped down the wall like a pile of wet mud. But remembering the precedent set by Quist, Fang Senyan dared not go for the kill, merely incapacitating both officers into unconsciousness.
The disturbance inside the ward naturally alerted the officers outside, who roared in anger, drawing their weapons and banging violently on the door—“peng peng!” But they certainly wouldn't dare fire wildly, fearing stray bullets might harm their comrades inside. Thus, the double-locked door would buy Fang Senyan at least ten seconds.
Every move inside the room had been rehearsed several times in Fang Senyan's mind. Before the first officer even slumped to the floor, he had already twisted back to grab Quist’s right arm on the hospital bed. If he could just control the hand that held the gun, Fang Senyan’s infiltration would be deemed perfectly executed.
However, the white sheet covering the bed suddenly billowed up, rushing toward Fang Senyan’s face. The severely wounded Quist still possessed the strength for a counter-attack! And a cold glint flashed between his right fingers; he was gripping an extremely sharp dagger! The police must have searched Quist thoroughly after apprehending him, and they had even put him in a hospital gown now. No one knew where the wretch had managed to procure this murder weapon!
Facing the sudden assault, Fang Senyan merely sneered. He neither dodged nor retreated, continuing to grip Quist's wrist with force. The sharp dagger sliced through his skin, penetrating the muscle, but it could advance no further upon meeting solid bone, snapping clean off with a ‘pa’! This venomous thrust was rendered useless under the support of Fang Senyan’s innate ability. For Fang Senyan, the heavily injured Quist posed no significant threat without a firearm!
Simultaneously, Fang Senyan’s hand clamped down on Quist’s right wrist, driving it downward with a sickening snap. Quist let out a piercing scream as his right hand was brutally twisted backward and broken against the edge of the bed! Fang Senyan followed up with movements like the wind, treating Quist’s left hand in the same manner, breaking it. Then, he violently wrenched the handcuffs off Quist’s wrist, tearing away large strips of flesh. The wound on the wrist was naturally a bloody mess, ghastly to behold!
At that very moment, the fragile ward door was smashed open by the anxious police. In mere seconds, at least five guns were pointed at Fang Senyan, and three men were furiously roaring for him to put his hands on his head and press against the wall.
Fang Senyan threw his head back and laughed wildly. He lifted Quist, smashed through the adjacent window, and leaped from the third floor! His formidable strength fully unleashed the ferocious nature ingrained in his character. Simultaneously, gunshots erupted everywhere, smoke filling the ward. At least seven or eight bullets struck his back! But it was useless! Fang Senyan had long experimented with directly enduring fire from these small-caliber police pistols. Even though dozens of blood spatters bloomed across his back, the injuries were merely superficial, costing him a few points of forced damage. Most bullets only managed to embed themselves half an inch into the muscle before being squeezed out by the muscle fibers’ own contractions!
Compared to the dense gunshot wounds on his back, jumping from the third floor while carrying a man was far more damaging. The moment he hit the ground, although Fang Senyan executed a roll to mitigate impact, he grunted in pain as his legs throbbed, and his life force plummeted by nearly thirty points. Fortunately, he had already scoped out his escape route beforehand. He immediately dragged the half-dead Quist, limping heavily, to a police car, yanked open the door, dove inside, hurriedly started the engine, and vanished toward the end of the road.
The infuriated police officers who rushed down found that the tires on all the other patrol cars were flat. They could only dejectedly report back to headquarters, but given that it was around five in the morning—the deepest time of sleep—there was no possibility of receiving an immediate, efficient response.
Fang Senyan drove the stolen car in a few loops around the streets, ensuring he wasn't being followed by the police, before pulling into a small alley. The environment here was quite foul, with sewage running everywhere. A few drug users who had been lighting up to enjoy themselves were startled out of their wits when they saw a police car barreling toward them, scattering immediately.
Fang Senyan ignored the situation outside, turning to smile at Quist, who was slumped in the back seat. His teeth were startlingly white even under the dim light.
“Do you want to live or die?”
Quist was shivering uncontrollably from the cold and pain, his facial muscles contorted. He had initially intended to remain silent even if it meant death, but ultimately, facing death at another’s hands, he couldn't remain composed. In such a close, confined space, Quist wouldn't have been a match for Fang Senyan even at his peak, let alone now that both his hands were useless!
“What difference does it make if I die? What difference if I live?”
Fang Senyan said flatly:
“If you wish to die, I can toss you onto the street right now. If you wish to live, then answer my questions obediently.”
“Ask,” Quist, having been pushed to the brink, clearly had few options left. But as he spoke, his eyes flickered—he clearly had something on his mind.
“The police must have searched you and changed your clothes to a patient uniform. Where did you get the dagger you used to stab me?” Fang Senyan asked this question first.
“After you complete your first mission, the Nightmare Imprint on your chest will gain a storage function, accessible at any time, though there are limits to space, weight, and size. As your Nightmare Imprint level increases, the storage space will also increase.”
Hearing this, Quist seemed to notice the malice flashing in Fang Senyan’s eyes and quickly added:
“You should have received a prompt when entering the world: this world is a peaceful scenario. Killing other Contract Holders results in no item drops unless the Contract Holder willingly allows it. Therefore, even if you kill me, you gain nothing.”
Fang Senyan’s lips twitched slightly, then he said calmly:
“I know. Your severe injuries must have been self-inflicted, and they must be genuinely severe, otherwise, they would never have escaped the eyes of the doctors. Your goal was obviously to escape the encirclement and get yourself into a hospital. But even in the hospital, you would be under non-stop 24-hour surveillance, and changes in your body could not be hidden from monitoring equipment. Therefore, you must have some method to rapidly restore your physical condition to its peak state so you could escape from that heavily guarded treatment room!”
“What I want is that method you are relying on as your last bargaining chip!”
Quist flinched under Fang Senyan’s sharp gaze, slowly lowering his head, stubbornly resisting: “How do I know you won't just kill me anyway?”
Fang Senyan coldly stated: “If you don’t speak, you die now. If you speak, you might live.”
As if to reinforce his sincerity, Fang Senyan's hand gripped his throat forcefully. Quist took a deep breath. Suddenly, that extremely powerful .500 handgun appeared on the car seat beside him, along with a dark shotgun—evidently, these were the weapons Quist had pulled from his Nightmare Imprint.
When Quist was on the bed, it wasn't that he didn't want to use these high-powered weapons; it was because the recoil on both guns was immense, making them unusable. Already severely wounded, with one hand still cuffed to the bed, trying to fire under those conditions meant the accuracy would be negligible.
More importantly, Fang Senyan’s sudden assault on the ward hadn't given Quist much time to react. By the time Quist realized someone had attacked, Fang Senyan was already within a mere two or three meters. In this range, firearms are indeed less practical than a dagger; otherwise, there would be no need to attach bayonets to rifles.
Fang Senyan looked at the two weapons, released Quist’s throat, and a smile finally surfaced on his face:
“I finally see you showing some sincerity. Actually, you don't need to be so tense. Have you considered your own value?”
Quist, starved of oxygen, gasped heavily, staring at Fang Senyan with a mixture of fear and confusion: “What do you mean?”
Fang Senyan smiled: “Haven't you noticed how complementary our talents actually are?”
At this moment, the police car's engine sputtered and died. Fang Senyan stepped out of the police vehicle, lifted Quist up again, and shoved him into a sedan parked nearby before sliding into the driver's seat and pulling the stunned driver out, starting the engine.
