Fang Senyan glanced in the mirror; his appearance was indeed completely transformed, and his clothes had also been changed. Reviewing the other information he had gathered, he concluded that the most useful pieces for him right now were "Pain Attenuation: 70%" and "Personal Ability Enhancement: 50%," if taken literally. This suggested his overall combat capability would be boosted by at least double.
He then selected the digitalized character information, and a long string of data immediately popped up:
Contractor No. 1018 Personal Information is as follows. (Parentheses indicate reference values for a normal adult male.)
Discovered Contractor No. 1018's Hidden Talent Ability: Tenacity (Passive). Physical attacks inflict 25 less damage upon you. If the damage from such an attack is less than 25 points, 1 point of Health will be forcibly deducted instead. Note: Hidden Talent Abilities are powers you are about to awaken but have not yet mastered. Therefore, they only function within the Nightmare World and Nightmare Space, being inactive in all other environments. Should you successfully master this talent, you may utilize it anywhere. Note: This Hidden Talent Ability is rated: C+ Grade.
Your designation number is related to your genetic code and is independent of any other factor.
Your Basic Attributes are as follows. (Parentheses indicate the average values for a normal adult male.)
Strength: 8 points (5 points). Strength determines the power of some melee attacks, and it also enhances your carrying capacity, allowing you to don and utilize heavier, more potent armor/weapons.
Agility: 6 points (5 points). Agility determines your movement speed and attack speed, and it also influences your Dodge Rate. It has a minor effect on physical ranged attack power as well.
Stamina: 12 points (5 points). Basic Endurance: Stamina dictates your resilience to damage and determines your ability to maintain prolonged running or combat. It also partially affects Health regeneration speed and Defense. Health regeneration speed = Stamina / 2 minutes (meaning Fang Senyan currently recovers 6 Health points automatically per minute). Your current maximum Health cap = Stamina x 10. Severe injuries will significantly slow down Health regeneration. Basic Defense Rating = Stamina / 2. Fang Senyan's Current Defense = 6 points. Damage Reduction Conversion Formula: Percentage of Damage Reduced = (Defense * 0.4) / (Defense * 0.4 + 10). Examples: 1 point of Defense reduces approximately 4% of all damage. 5 Defense reduces approximately 16% of all damage. 10 Defense reduces approximately 28% of all damage. 15 Defense reduces approximately 37% of all damage. 50 Defense reduces approximately 66% of all damage. 100 Defense reduces 80% of all damage. The higher the Defense, the smaller the incremental reduction in damage becomes.
Perception: 11 points (5 points). Perception is the collective term for your hearing, intuition, vision, etc. High Perception grants you a certain chance to detect surrounding dangers ahead of time and allows for quicker and more detailed observation of your environment. Individuals with higher Perception have a greater likelihood of anticipating incoming threats sooner. In the real world, people with high Perception often make preemptive judgments about danger based on sudden hunches. Perception also influences the accuracy of all attacks; an excellent ranged fire suppressor must also possess respectable Perception to suppress enemies. Caution: If an enemy's Perception is similar to or higher than yours, your predictive sense may be weakened or even negated! If an enemy's Perception possesses an overwhelming advantage over yours, they can even mislead you.
Charisma: 6 points (5 points). Charisma is the direct feedback of appearance, demeanor, eloquence, and amiability. High Charisma allows you to communicate better with story characters, increases your chances of learning various mysterious abilities, and reduces the likelihood of story characters attacking you. Furthermore, certain Charm/Summoning abilities have a mandatory Charisma requirement, and Charisma provides additional bonuses to such abilities. High Charisma also grants extra boosts when earning Reputation.
Wisdom: 5 points (5 points). Wisdom determines your maximum Spirit Power and Spirit Power recovery speed. Simply put, it dictates the number of times you can unleash your abilities. Your maximum SP cap = Wisdom x 10.
Spirit: 4 points (5 points). Spirit provides a bonus to the power of your abilities and directly determines your ability critical hit rate.
When you are in the Nightmare Space/Nightmare World, your injury healing speed is 400% that of a normal person, and your Spirit Power recovery speed is 120% that of a normal person. Your current maximum Health cap is 120 points, and your maximum Spirit Power cap is 50 points. When Health drops below 2 points, mobility is affected; when Health drops below 0, you die. When Spirit Power drops below 2 points, symptoms like dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue occur; when Spirit Power reaches 0, you fall into a deep coma.
Your body has been digitized. When adventuring in the Nightmare Space/Nightmare World, damage taken to vital areas such as your brain or heart will not cause immediate death; instead, it will significantly increase the critical hit chance of that attack. If cumulative damage inflicted on certain functional parts of your body—such as eyes, ears, nose, or joints—reaches one-third of your total Health, functional deficiency effects like blindness, deafness, or cripple will occur. Functional deficiency effects cannot be restored through rest or ordinary medicine. Normally, they require treatment in the Nightmare Space, though there is a possibility that story characters, rare medicines, or Contractors who have mastered certain advanced abilities may be able to heal functional deficiencies.
As these things were being detailed, Fang Senyan clearly saw a red horizontal bar appear before his eyes, with a blue bar beneath it—presumably the Health Bar (HP) and the Spirit Power Bar (SP).
So that's how it is, Fang Senyan nodded. No wonder he always had such an early premonition about bad things. This must be the effect of his Perception being a towering 11 points, far surpassing ordinary people, and his high Stamina of 12 points must be the primary reason he could hold on for so long after being shot.
"Talent Ability?" Fang Senyan questioned, looking at the series of descriptions. He immediately tried to consult the Nightmare Imprint on his chest about this feature. The mechanical, indifferent voice quickly sounded in his ear.
"Contractors selected for the Space have personal qualities or potential far exceeding ordinary people. Most of them demonstrate outstanding performance or potential in some aspect; this is what is assessed as a Talent Ability. Among the Contractors selected so far, over 50% possess a Talent Ability; some even have multiple ones."
Fang Senyan frowned upon hearing this explanation. The phrase "over 50% of people possess a Talent Ability" was certainly not good news. Then he heard the Nightmare Imprint continue its notification:
"Based on your current physical condition, you still possess two Basic Abilities: Basic Footwork LV1 and Basic Endurance LV1. Please check again for detailed descriptions after this World concludes."
Fang Senyan immediately called up the details for these two Basic Abilities. The description for Basic Footwork LV1 stated: You have mastered some dodging techniques, allowing you to become more agile in combat. Basic Endurance LV1's description stated: You usually enjoy physical exercise, thus increasing your resistance to being struck. This seemed to be due to Fang Senyan's enthusiastic dedication to physical training in his real-world life.
Just then, the door to the room, which had been firmly shut, suddenly burst open with a 'BANG.' A stout, black woman, almost filling the entire door frame, frowned impatiently and barked:
"Boy, the money you paid only covers up until now, and the next guest has already prepaid their rent. Pack your things and get out. Remember, I'll be back up in five minutes, and I don't want to see you here then."
Fang Senyan's expression darkened, his brow twitched, but he managed to suppress his displeasure. At that moment, he received the prompt confirming the official start of this World in his ear, and he formally stepped out of the room. Instantly, a surge of hot energy flooded his body, making his stride suddenly light and quick. He checked his personal menu; the current data showed Strength at twelve points, Agility at nine, Stamina at eighteen, Perception at fourteen (rounded), Charisma at nine, Spirit at six, and Wisdom at eight. Indeed, all attributes had increased by 50%.
He clenched his fists, savoring the surging power. In that moment, something inside him seemed to awaken, and an indescribable ambition surged forth!
"With this power, what does that Hua Shanfei or that Black Ghost Dong matter—they're nothing! This Space is truly miraculous; perhaps Uncle Da Si's crippled hands can even be healed!"
Fang Senyan's room was located at the far end of the second floor, on the right side of this bar. The only staircase down was at the far left end of the second floor. If he wanted to descend, he would have to cross the entire length of the corridor. Watching the enormous, fleshy buttocks of the stout black woman wiggling ahead of him, Fang Senyan felt a rising annoyance. Just then, the black woman knocked on the door of the room ahead of him:
"Your rental time is up. If the guest wishes to renew, please pay at the front desk downstairs."
After saying this, the woman walked straight down. Fang Senyan paid her no mind and continued forward to descend, but just as he passed the room the black woman had just knocked on, that door suddenly slid open, and a single man with a full beard stepped out.
This bar was an old structure desperately in need of demolition; the wooden floorboards groaned underfoot, and the staircase railing was loose and shaky, covered in layers of grime. As the bearded man emerged, he happened to block Fang Senyan's path. To pass, one would have to hold onto the side rail and squeeze by.
Fang Senyan stopped short, his dark eyebrows tilting slightly upwards, his eyes narrowed but shining with a dangerous, blade-like glint. Under normal circumstances, stepping past someone like this wouldn't be an issue. But now, after the bizarre experiences and strange encounters he had just undergone, the apparent calm masked imminent peril. Moving past by squeezing sideways would expose a massive opening in his defense right in front of the bearded man!
