Chu Xuan paused for a moment before nodding in agreement. Meanwhile, 0-Point, who had been silent beside them, suddenly spoke up. "Earlier, when you were on top of the Moden Building, there was someone watching you from a great distance. The separation between you was at least several kilometers. With normal human eyesight, they shouldn't have been able to see you, yet their gaze seemed fixed solely on you. And when I looked towards them, they actually acted as if sensing it and ducked behind a small structure on the rooftop, making it impossible for me to see them again."
Everyone exchanged glances. Zheng Zha quickly asked, "When was this? Was it when we were observing the plaza? 0-Point, why didn't you contact Zhan Lan then? Whether it was using psychic scanning to lock onto that person or linking us together with the Soul Chain, either would have worked. Heavens, perhaps that person was Imhotep!" 0-Point scratched his head and muttered, "I don't know how to contact Zhan Lan, and I'm not very familiar with the Psychic Scanning ability. I might need more practice before I can coordinate operations with you all..." Zheng Zha instantly fell silent.
He suddenly remembered that none of the people present had ever fought alongside Zhan Lan utilizing her Psychic Scanning and Soul Chain skills. Thus, more often than not, they still relied on their own vision to locate enemies and then used spoken language to relay information.
In this manner, the utility of Zhan Lan's skills was almost entirely untapped. So, he immediately asked, "Zhan Lan, your Psychic Scanning should be able to monitor all of us constantly, right?" Zhan Lan nodded. The young woman smiled and said, "Yes, certainly no problem. When the number of people is below 50, I can keep them all within my psychic scan. As soon as anything unusual happens to them, or if their psychic energy fluctuates significantly, I can sense it immediately."
Zheng Zha quickly nodded. "That's good. Lock onto all of our team members with your psychic power. Except for private matters... ahem. Other than those things, when we need to contact you, we will continuously call out to you in our minds, and you can also contact any one of us based on the situation at any time... First, try linking the status of the Psychic Scan to the minds of 0-Point, Overlord, and Wang Xia."
Zhan Lan obediently nodded and proceeded to cast her Psychic Scan over the entirety of New York City.
And 0-Point, Overlord, and Wang Xia all closed their eyes simultaneously, presumably already seeing the layout of New York City within their consciousness.
At this point, Zheng Zha turned to look at Chu Xuan. After thinking for a moment, he said, "So, when the exhibition starts tomorrow, I will place the Book of the Dead in the display case in the morning. Overlord and Wang Xia will be responsible for close protection of the book, while I will blend into the crowd, ready to intercept Imhotep or any other enemy at any time. 0-Point will be positioned far away for sniping, and you will remain here at the hotel to maintain overall control. Are there any other issues?" Chu Xuan quietly shook his head. He stated, "No, your arrangement is appropriate. Just as we planned before, we will only stay in New York for three days before departing for the ruins of the ancient Mayan civilization..." "Yes, just three days..."
The next morning, the area surrounding the plaza was packed shoulder-to-shoulder with people. Even though Zheng Zha had spent a considerable sum hiring numerous guards and security personnel, compared to the tens of thousands of citizens, the hundred-plus security staff were simply too few. Fortunately, most of these citizens were middle-class, so their demeanor was relatively civilized. They voluntarily formed long queues outside the plaza, waiting to enter after their tickets were checked. Public figures holding invitations, however, were allowed to enter the plaza through a side entrance first. This provided an effective form of publicity for the exhibition.
"It's still too much. We didn't come here specifically to host an exhibition. Doing it this way feels like it's spiraling out of control..." Zheng Zha looked outward from among the security personnel. Indeed, the entire plaza, inside and out, was a sea of people. An exhibition naturally couldn't just display a single ancient book, could it? That was why he had previously paid a large sum to rent artifacts from various museums across the city. In hopes of boosting their own prestige, these museums had actually lent out many famous relics. Consequently, this exhibition, following established custom, was becoming increasingly popular, though, in certain aspects, it was beginning to exceed the control of Zheng Zha and the others.
"No matter what, everyone stick to your posts. If we can attract both O'Connell and Imhotep here, that's even better. If not, we must ensure the ancient book remains perfectly safe!" Zheng Zha communicated to the others through the Soul Chain, while he too fixed his gaze intently on his surroundings.
Time passed continuously, and the busy day transitioned into night. As darkness fell, more and more people flocked to the plaza. This was because the poor who couldn't afford to view the exhibition were drawn by the promise of free food and wine at night, so they gathered around the plaza early. Thus, as most of the middle-class departed, the crowds in the plaza only grew larger.
Concurrently, at the New York City airport, O'Connell and his companions disembarked from the train and walked toward the exit. They were accompanied by a man and a woman, both clad in long robes. The man was a handsome, bald individual, and the woman was beautiful and captivating. These two displayed remarkably relaxed expressions, unlike the other three whose faces were heavy with worry.
O'Connell muttered, "Imhotep, do not underestimate that monster. He is absolutely a monster who is in no way inferior to you. You cannot possibly imagine what we witnessed in that small town. Everyone whose blood he drained transforms into a monstrous creature of immense strength. They can lift a car, or even shatter a house with a single punch. And that is not the most terrifying aspect. The most terrifying thing is the monster himself; his physical body is simply like... simply like..." Evy, seeing her husband struggling for words, quickly interjected, "It's as if every part of his body possesses a will of its own. His blood vessels can detach from his body and become needle-like, their tensile strength capable of piercing the shell of a car. His hair can writhe like snakes, and it can draw blood from the tips of those strands. His strength is immeasurable, and his speed is quite fast. Most frighteningly, he can instantly reduce his body temperature to an extremely low level. The moment you touch his flesh, you will immediately be frozen into fragments by that extreme cold..."
Imhotep chuckled, "That sounds like a rather formidable creature. But can it avoid being desiccated into a mummy in the desert? Hahaha... Compared to this creature, I am far more interested in the location of the Golden Mask. Is it a mask that turns the wearer into a vampire? Are you certain he was an extremely old man before donning the mask?" O'Connell nodded, "That's right. He was indeed an old man in his sixties before wearing the mask. But after putting it on, countless golden needles emerged from the mask and pierced his brain. Afterward, he became unnaturally young, looking to be around eighteen to twenty-two years old."
Imhotep looked toward Anck-Su-Namun, smiling, "It would be too lonely if only I were ageless and immortal. Anck-Su-Namun, you too can possess power beyond mortals. You can also be ageless and immortal just like me... Are you happy?" The captivating woman's eyes shone slightly, and she offered Imhotep a gentle smile. Imhotep then said with a grin, "This stone mask is very likely the Ultimate Biological Evolution Mask mentioned in the ancient texts. Haha, I never expected to discover something this fascinating after arriving in America..." Evy's curiosity was immediately piqued, and she quickly asked, "The Ultimate Biological Evolution Mask? What is that? Is that the true name of the Golden Mask? Why would it have such a name?"
Imhotep dismissed the question casually, "It's just a name. In my time, many ancient texts were preserved. Legend holds that humanity once reached a very high level of civilization—civilization being the word—and the advanced lifeforms that evolved within it could arbitrarily control the source of their life, transforming into various kinds of creatures, even beings akin to gods. And those even more advanced—the Ultimate Beings—could command all things in nature, such as fire, light, wind, and so on; they were already gods... The texts stated that this Golden Mask could transform someone into an Advanced Lifeform, just one step shy of an Ultimate Lifeform. However, the records noted that something went wrong during the mask's creation. Although it results in an Advanced Lifeform, it is an incomplete one, which is why they fear sunlight; exposure to the sun causes instant death. I believe the entity you encountered is such a lifeform. Truly worthy of being called an Advanced Lifeform, only one step away from the Ultimate Lifeform, hahaha..."
After saying this, Imhotep took Anck-Su-Namun's hand and strode forward quickly. O'Connell and the other two exchanged a glance and could only follow silently behind Imhotep. From any perspective, Imhotep was currently their greatest ally, even if that ally was not entirely dependable.
