It was rumored that Qi Yue was skilled at taking pulses, but since she was a surgeon, no one really took that seriously.

Could there truly be some hidden skill? While everyone stared blankly, Qi Yue had already begun examining the patient's abdomen. The external wound wasn't obvious, and the patient was in shock, meaning pressure wouldn't elicit any response; normally, this would render a proper diagnosis impossible.

"Splenic rupture."

Qi Yue stated after palpating for a moment, rising to her feet. "Issue an emergency surgery order."

What? Splenic rupture? This, too, was found by touch? Everyone present stared at her dumbfounded.

"What are you looking at? Hurry up and notify the operating room, notify the central blood bank," Qi Yue commanded.

The staff snapped back to reality; she was the attending physician covering the ER shift. They quickly followed her instructions.

"What?" When the surgery order was sent out, the attending surgeon who received the notification immediately protested upon hearing that no imaging had been done. "What kind of joke is this!"

"The patient's condition is critical; we mustn't delay," Qi Yue countered.

"This is surgery, not a joke," the surgeon argued, also agitated. "Are you people in the ER messing around!" He then directed his staff.

"Hurry up and get the X-rays taken. If I don't see the films, I am not entering that operating room."

That was the reality; the procedural requirements and medical accountability were not simple matters.

In her dreams, she was accustomed to critical emergency care without the aid of various diagnostic instruments, but the others were not.

She couldn't bring her dreams into reality... Qi Yue nodded.

"Increase fluid resuscitation," she instructed the resident physician. "Increase the blood reserve requested from the blood bank; I estimate 800mL of whole blood will definitely not be enough by the time we operate. Tell them to prepare 2000mL."

With the handover complete to the chief resident, Qi Yue washed her hands of it.

A new emergency patient had just arrived, and she turned to attend to the new case.

After coordination, the patient finally received an emergency chest X-ray. Upon seeing the resulting film, the surgeon preparing for the operation couldn't help but show a flicker of surprise.

"She was actually right! Tibial fracture, splenic rupture. This doctor looks quite young, but she seems quite experienced," he remarked, immediately arranging the surgical workflow.

"What? Only 800mL of whole blood? How can that be enough?" a nearby doctor shouted urgently while holding a phone.

The surgeon jumped in alarm.

"Damn it, 800mL of whole blood won't be enough for this surgery—hurry up and call them!" he urged.

"Dr. Qi already asked the blood bank to reserve 2000mL," the resident quickly reported.

The surgeon was surprised again.

"Not bad, not bad," he finally nodded. "This ER doctor is good; unlike others who hardly help and just cause trouble. If we had more ER doctors like her, our work would be so much easier."

Due to the initial delay, there was indeed significant blood loss during the operation. Furthermore, they discovered more than just a splenic rupture, proceeding to resect parts of the pancreas and small intestine. The surgery stretched to nearly seven hours.

The early aggressive fluid resuscitation and ample blood supply had been a huge help—a realization that left the surgeon quite shaken afterward. He praised this ER doctor repeatedly during subsequent medical meetings.

Qi Yue’s reputation in the hospital grew even louder.

Some people even started seeking her out, not for her primary specialty in cardiothoracic surgery, but for other departments.

Eventually, even doctors from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine came to ask about her master.

Qi Yue glanced at the Qian Jin Fang sitting on her desk.

"My master is an ancient predecessor," she murmured.

Of course, everyone interpreted that phrase differently: self-taught genius.

The admiration for her intensified.

When the shortlist for the Top Ten Physicians of the Month was posted, Qi Yue’s name was prominently featured.

Cui Xiu turned away furiously.

"How is this possible!" she fumed.

"In this generation of young physicians, she deserves recognition," Wu Jianfeng stated.

His gaze fell upon the photograph displayed on the lobby bulletin board.

Cui Xiu turned to look at his expression, which only fueled her anger further.

"Useless. How are you inferior to her? You've been here a year longer than her—how can she be on the list and you aren't?" she challenged.

No sooner had she spoken than a voice cut in from the side.

"Oh dear, you really can't deny fate," Huang Ying said, hands clasped behind her back as she looked at the board. "If a person is good, they have good fortune. If they aren't, nothing else matters."

"Hey, what are you implying?" Cui Xiu snapped, her eyes landing on Qi Yue, who was standing next to Huang Ying. "You're quite pleased with yourself, aren't you? So brilliant?" Qi Yue smiled at her.

"Yes, of course I'm pleased," she replied. "Making the shortlist proves my ability; it's nothing to feel guilty about, so naturally, I'm pleased."

Furious, Cui Xiu shoved Wu Jianfeng.

"He's insulting you," she insisted.

Wu Jianfeng looked at Qi Yue.

"Congratulations," he offered.

Qi Yue smiled back at him.

"Thank you."

Cui Xiu fiercely twisted Wu Jianfeng's arm.

"What are you doing!" Wu Jianfeng shouted, shaking his arm free before turning and walking away.

Cui Xiu hadn't expected him to humiliate her like that; she felt angry, ashamed, and resentful.

"What's there to be smug about? That saying is true—if you're down in love, you succeed at work," she said, raising her chin toward the smiling Qi Yue, all while ostentatiously flashing the diamond wedding ring on her hand.

"Oh, really, that's..." Huang Ying started, about to speak out of anger, but Qi Yue held her back.

"Let's go; we'll miss dinner," Qi Yue said, turning to leave.

She’s been silenced and has to retreat, Cui Xiu thought with a hint of satisfaction.

In the lobby to the left, a few people walked out laughing. Seeing Qi Yue, Peng Jia-hai stopped.

"Dr. Qi," he called out.

Qi Yue paused her steps, nodding and smiling at him as a greeting.

"Have you finished compiling the notes from this morning's emergency consultation?" Peng Jia-hai inquired.

Qi Yue nodded.

"I'll bring them to you after I eat," she replied.

"Have you eaten yet?" Peng Jia-hai suddenly asked.

"I was just about to go," Qi Yue said.

"Then let's go together," Peng Jia-hai suggested.

Qi Yue turned to look at Huang Ying.

"Sounds good, sounds good," Huang Ying chirped happily.

Qi Yue nodded as well.

Watching the two men walk off side-by-side, Huang Ying finally moved to follow. Before leaving, she shot a look at Cui Xiu.

"What garbage good thing is worth showing off every day? Any random person would be ten times better," she huffed pointedly.

Without waiting for Cui Xiu's reply, she hurried to catch up.

Cui Xiu bit her lip and stomped her foot, then turned and ran off.

Although she ultimately didn't win the election due to seniority issues, Qi Yue remained unaffected, continuing her rotation in the Emergency Department.

Peng Jia-hai waited a while before Qi Yue rushed over.

"You didn't even have lunch?" He handed her a pre-packaged meal box.

"Sister Huang is so lazy, making you bring this over," Qi Yue said as she took it.

"I was passing by; she's busy with patients in the ward," Peng Jia-hai explained.

Qi Yue thanked him and sat down nearby to eat.

"No night shift today, right?" Peng Jia-hai remained standing nearby and asked.

"No, but I probably won't leave immediately after my shift ends. Handovers in the ER always take a long time," Qi Yue commented while eating.

"In that case, I'll book a meal at the restaurant first, and you can just come straight there to eat," Peng Jia-hai offered.

Qi Yue, head bowed as she ate, paused slightly.

They were all adults; the meaning of that statement was clear to anyone.

...I am indispensable.

So, for the rest of your life, you must stick with me... whether it's wealth and status, or danger and hardship, or rich feasts or simple fare, you must follow me... Stop smiling flirtatiously at other men and saying things that are so pleasing; it’s so irritating... It's a dream! Yes, just a dream!

"Alright," she said, looking up with a slight smile.

Peng Jia-hai smiled.

"Then you stay busy; I'll head off now. See you tonight," he said, making a gesture as if calling someone on his phone.

Qi Yue smiled and nodded, watching him turn and leave. She lowered her gaze back to the half-eaten meal box.

"Dr. Qi. Dr. Qi, Cardiovascular Surgery needs a consultation!" the chief resident shouted loudly from the duty office.

Qi Yue responded with an acknowledgement, set down the half-eaten meal box, and walked away.

As expected, by the time she finished handing over her current tasks, it was already dark.

In the office, there was a rare moment of ease. The television was on, and a table of doctors was gathered, eating their boxed meals and instant noodles.

"How was it, how was it? Isn't the ER much more relaxed than your cardiothoracic clinic?" they teased Qi Yue with smiles.

Qi Yue rubbed her shoulders. "Very relaxed. I feel completely refreshed after every day," she laughed.

"Yueliang, over here, your meal box is ready, eat a little before you go back," someone called out.

Before Qi Yue could reply, someone else waved them off.

"Go, go, what's so good about these crappy boxed meals? Don't be clueless; Yueliang has a date," that person joked.

In such a large hospital with so many people, who was meeting whom wasn't common knowledge, but Peng Jia-hai was too prominent, drawing too much attention, so his movements were easily spread. Many people had tried to catch the eye of such a shining man, but upon closer inspection, Peng Jia-hai only seemed close to one person.

Qi Yue smiled, and her phone rang, prompting a chorus of teasing in the office.

Qi Yue pulled out her phone and saw the caller ID: Peng Brain Internal.

She answered with one hand while picking up her bag with the other.

"Are you done?" Peng Jia-hai asked on the line.

Qi Yue hummed in affirmation. "I'm leaving now; I'll be there in a moment. Where are you?" As she spoke, her hand suddenly froze as she looked at the television screen in front of her.

"...Then I'll drive over. Wait for me outside the main entrance..." Peng Jia-hai was still talking on the phone, but Qi Yue didn't hear him. She stared fixedly at the screen.

"...The deceased in the ancient tomb is cradling a scalpel... Yes, and it's a German-made scalpel..." On the screen, the beautiful female anchor pointed behind her at a glass case, and the camera zoomed in. Inside the square case, a human skeleton lay on its side, arm bones crossed.

"...Everyone, follow my finger..." The anchor's hand tapped the glass case, and the camera advanced again.

Qi Yue dazedly stepped closer, almost pressing against the screen. In the camera's focus, amidst the pale crossed bones, a silver-white scalpel came into view.

Clang. The sound of the phone dropping to the floor startled the laughing doctors.

"Yueliang?" "Dr. Qi?" they called out in surprise, watching as Qi Yue lunged toward the television, her hand reaching out to touch the screen.

"Mine." "Mine..." "Mine!" My scalpel!! My scalpel!! Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to everyone! There will be another update this afternoon. I'm speeding up! RT
