For the dinosaurs, those colossal insects were merely the size of ordinary bugs, posing little threat or shock value. Even if some dinosaurs were consumed because of them, it was merely part of the ecological cycle.
Yet, for humanity, countless gigantic insects could very well spell disaster, as human heavy weaponry offered little deterrent against insects. Even if larger sizes allowed for takedowns, what if it involved a massive swarm? The mere thought was enough to shake the soul.
“Indeed. If a large number of ancient insects still survive in that low-lying area, we are likely facing the greatest danger on Sona Island. Remember that saying? Danger equals reward… And I repeat: Do you wish to pass through safely? Or do you wish to gain substantial reward points and side-mission continuations to resurrect team members?” Chu Xuan spoke to Zheng Zha in a calm tone.
Zheng Zha replied without hesitation: “Having come this far, what’s the point of such talk? In this terrifying world of reincarnation, nowhere is truly safe. Instead of pinning our hopes on surviving the next horror film, we might as well exert every ounce of effort to complete the side-mission within this film, raising our strength to a point where we can disregard the difficulty of any horror scenario. I imagine… my clone would be doing the same?” Chu Xuan nodded: “Understood... Then let’s complete this side-mission and see what that mad scientist has been up to.”
What the mad scientist did remained unknown.
But what the Death God armies had done was glaringly obvious. As the group walked, they saw dinosaur carcasses everywhere. Killing these dinosaurs yielded no "Main God" reward point notifications, meaning Zheng Zha had no way of knowing the exact points gained, but judging by the sheer number of corpses, his earnings were certainly no less than a thousand points.
Just then, a colossal roar echoed from a great distance, immediately followed by a tremor shaking the very ground.
A thought struck the four of them, and three words instantly surfaced in their minds: "Tyrannosaurus Rex"—the tyrant among dinosaurs! As expected.
In the distance, a squad of Death God army monsters was surrounding a massive Triceratops when a cloud of dust appeared far, far off. Then, the giant dinosaur, nearly ten meters tall, materialized within the haze—a Tyrannosaurus Rex, standing upright, grotesquely enormous. The ground shuddered with every stride it took.
Every Death God army monster in its path was crushed to dust underfoot, and with one downward snap of its jaws, two or three monsters were instantly pulverized. Its destructive power was no less than a battle tank running over its targets.
That squad of fifty Death God army monsters was instantly more than half-destroyed, and the T-Rex spotted the four of them. It let out another roar and charged toward their position.
Zheng Zha stopped Ba Wang, who was just raising his rifle to fire. He lifted the Judgment Spear in his hand, slowly infusing it with both Blood race energy and internal power. By the time the golden light emanating from the spear blazed brightly, the Tyrannosaurus Rex was only tens of meters away.
Only then did Zheng Zha hurl the spear with tremendous force. The golden lance sliced through the darkness, stabbing directly into the T-Rex's skull.
Then came a flash of golden light. When the others could see clearly, the T-Rex’s head was completely gone. Its immense body crashed straight down to the ground.
The power of the Judgment Spear was indeed immensely formidable; it only required the simultaneous expenditure of internal power and Blood race energy. Its destructive capability was absolutely comparable to a small missile, and its power could even increase further based on the total input of energy. The only regret was that the Judgment Spear could only be used once. After being thrown, one couldn't dream of using it again until the battle concluded.
After dispatching the T-Rex, Zheng Zha activated his Qinggong and dashed hundreds of meters away to retrieve the Judgment Spear. However, before he could return to the group, the ground shook violently once more. When they looked toward the plain behind them, several massive Tyrannosaurus Rexes were charging toward them. Ba Wang and Wang Xia simultaneously raised their firearms, but Chu Xuan stopped them: “No need to attack yet. Zheng Zha! Use the Goblin Glider to lift us up... The difficulty is increasing; we are getting closer to the side-mission area. Once we spot the research institute, everyone can start attacking freely. By then, even if the Navy spots us, it won’t matter.”
Running, Zheng Zha retrieved the Goblin Glider from his dimensional bag. Three ropes were still attached. After the other three stepped onto the loops of the ropes, Zheng Zha activated the Goblin Glider and soared into the air. Before the T-Rexes could close the distance, the three of them were already flying hundreds of meters away.
The Goblin Glider proved immensely convenient. Although they only had one, for a four-person squad, this single glider was sufficient for rapid movement. Otherwise, the group would truly have no way to complete the side-mission on the other island.
Once airborne, their forward momentum dramatically increased. They intermittently spotted herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs on the ground. As they moved deeper toward the island’s center, the proportion of carnivores on the ground gradually rose. Besides the common Velociraptors, T-Rexes and other large carnivores appeared constantly. Furthermore, the group finally encountered their first Pterosaur.
It was a creature as large as a bird, yet it resembled a bat in flight—a gigantic bat. Its wingspan, when flapping, could easily reach eleven meters. Its razor-sharp teeth clearly indicated this creature was no herbivore. Especially when the Pterosaur spotted them, it shrieked and rushed toward the group. Chu Xuan immediately opened fire with his Gauss pistol. Although the shots were silent, the bullets hitting the Pterosaur produced loud pa-pa-pa sounds. While still a hundred meters away, the creature had sustained more than ten bloody wounds the size of bowls, particularly several deep holes in the center of its head. Almost soundlessly, the Pterosaur plummeted to the ground.
As the others breathed a sigh of relief, Chu Xuan pulled out the topographical map from his coat. He studied the ground, then compared it with the map. Before he could complete his action, several piercing shrieks echoed from the extreme distance—the same sound as the Pterosaur they had just dealt with. Sure enough, nearly ten massive black silhouettes flew out from far away, all screeching as they dive-bombed toward the group.
Chu Xuan continued studying his map, speaking without looking up: “Ba Wang, Wang Xia, Zheng Zha… Attack to your heart’s content! We are almost at the island's center; from this location… there’s nothing left to fear!” Ba Wang roared excitedly, having picked up and put down his tubular pulse launcher several times. Finally hearing Chu Xuan’s words, he let out a yell and aimed the launcher at the Pterosaurs in the far distance. The Pterosaurs were seven or eight kilometers away—a range too great even for Zheng Zha’s multi-barreled machine gun. Yet, Ba Wang laughed heartily and aimed his weapon. The gas hissed out, followed by a barrage of rounds that slammed into the distant Pterosaurs. The lead Pterosaur was vaporized into fragments, and another nearby one had its wing shattered by shrapnel. The sheer terror of the tubular pulse launcher’s power was evident: even at seven or eight kilometers, a direct hit resulted in a penetrating wound of massive size. This power truly meant instant harm and instant death upon contact.
Wang Xia also aimed his submachine gun toward the ground. With the power of his weapon, he could easily handle and eliminate any nearby Velociraptors, so his submachine gun kept up a steady stream of fire. Immediately, fierce gunfire erupted from the Goblin Glider's location, and the sound of the tubular pulse launcher was exaggeratedly loud. In the quiet night, this noise rapidly propagated outward from the island's center, audible even to the Navy forces blockading the main island, let alone the soldiers in the onshore fortifications.
The four in the island’s interior continued their rapid flight. After only a few more minutes, the dinosaurs on the ground gradually thinned out, but dinosaur bones began to increase. The ground turned muddy, and the grassland vegetation disappeared, replaced by low shrubs or fungi like mushrooms. Moreover... the giant insects on the ground started becoming more frequent.
When they killed the dinosaurs earlier, the three besides Chu Xuan felt a certain excitement. But seeing the current scene, a shadow of dread began to creep into their minds. Setting aside everything else, the reappearance of the giant insects was enough to validate Chu Xuan’s earlier deduction: completing the side-mission likely meant confronting ancient insects, not the easily defeated dinosaurs.
