So, with the bearded man in black volunteering to lead these people, Zheng Zha was more than happy to take it easy. During these ten-plus days, since O'Connell and the others hadn't arrived yet, he began training his internal energy and Vampire powers on his own. Ever since his battle with the clone of the Demon Reincarnation Squad, he had been acutely aware of his own shortcomings—not just in raw power, but also in state of mind, willpower, and combat technique; he was utterly outmatched by the clone in all these aspects.
Mere obsession with survival wouldn't suffice; he needed an even stronger, more potent obsession—the obsession for victory, the drive to protect those he held dear, the resolve to never lose them again! His internal energy could be forged stronger, his Vampire powers wielded with greater flexibility, and even the Blood Flame wasn't solely for incinerating foes anymore.
When Vampire energy was unleashed in larger quantities and with greater ferocity over a short span, the blood-red flame would deepen in hue. With Zheng Zha's current power level, he could shift the intensity of the crimson flame; thus, he realized the clone had merely used a basic Red Flame skill, but by multiplying his Vampire energy output instantaneously, that basic skill manifested as a dark fire. What a terrifying power that must be! This led him to understand that skills and enhancements exchanged from the "Main God" were merely prototypes; true mastery—the Dreadful Possession—lay in adapting and evolving those abilities based on one's own inherent properties. Otherwise, merely trading for generic skills and enhancements from the "Main God" would render them incapable of defeating those who had evolved beyond the baseline.
Zheng Zha didn't possess such overwhelming Vampire energy, so when using the Red Flame, he was forced to incorporate his internal energy as well. It was as if the corrosive nature of the Vampire energy had infected his inner force. The two energies intertwined and fused, resulting in a crimson flame threaded with wisps of golden fire. Although he hadn't tested it explicitly, he surmised that this golden flame must possess power far exceeding the blood-colored fire.
Secondly, he experimented with channeling his internal energy into his weapons, much like in the martial arts films he had watched. Though he hadn't specifically enhanced any Wugong techniques, the principle of 'understanding one concept illuminates a hundred' suggested that the application of internal energy should be similar.
However, after several attempts, only his Zaku electric axe could withstand the corrosive internal force; all other iron tools and weapons were corroded and snapped apart by the energy. Moreover, the critical issue was that this method caused the internal energy to rapidly dissipate into the air. Even with his current high-level internal energy, the rate of consumption was staggering, suggesting this technique should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
Of course, the power it generated was immense. Ten-plus days passed swiftly. One day, while he was meditating inside the tent to cultivate his internal energy, the bearded man in black entered from outside. A small, delicate falcon perched on his arm. The bearded man smiled and said, "O'Connell and the others have arrived. They are currently in Cairo preparing to join the next supply convoy. They should reach us in a few days."
Zheng Zha startled, then exclaimed with sudden delight, "Really? That’s fantastic! Good, I’ll go meet them. Right, how far has the Hamunaptra excavation progressed?" Hearing Zheng Zha offer to fetch O'Connell and the others, the bearded man immediately decided against objecting but answered first, "Hamunaptra has been dug down to the middle section of the first level. We need to clear a lot of debris outside, but digging further down will be easier. We’ve unearthed a large amount of gold artifacts so far." Zheng Zha waved his hand, interrupting, and smiled, "I already said it, all the gold in the City of the Dead belongs to you. Use it to improve the tribe's living conditions, and make sure the children get an education. You can't live off the land forever, after all. If the children have knowledge, the tribe can become stronger and better in the future. Alright, I’m off to meet them."
With that, Zheng Zha took out the Green Goblin Glider from his spatial bag.
The bearded man in black and the large group surrounding him watched in stunned silence as Zheng Zha stepped onto the board and soared into the air. The speed far surpassed any aircraft they had ever seen (from the era between the World Wars); in moments, he vanished toward the horizon, leaving many gasping in awe.
"See? Foreign technology is amazing; even a plank of metal can fly." "Nonsense, that’s a glider board. I’ve seen people use them; I hear foreign kids all have one." The bearded man listened to the continuous murmuring around him, then suddenly burst into loud laughter. He turned and walked back towards Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead. Zheng Zha flew at high speed, the sensation of soaring through the air like this was truly exhilarating, dispelling much of the gloominess clinging to his internal energy. He moved his hands freely between the yellow sands and the blue sky, so overjoyed he wanted to shout to the heavens. The glider's speed was astonishing; after just over an hour of flight, the outline of Cairo appeared before him.
When Zheng Zha landed at the entrance of the Cairo Museum, he could hear the noise emanating from inside even standing at the gate; it sounded like Jonathan was engaged in a fierce argument with someone.
"Don't joke, this is an expensive antique I bought for one thousand pounds; how could I possibly just hand it over? Fine, fine, aren't we friends? I’ll sell this antique to this museum then, but I’m asking for one thousand five hundred pounds! Well, one thousand then, you can’t expect me to take a loss, can you?" Jonathan was arguing loudly in the museum's reception room with the curator.
As Zheng Zha entered the room, he saw Jonathan waving a short golden staff. Quick as thought, Zheng Zha rushed forward, snatched the golden staff, and immediately examined it closely. Following the memory of the movie scene, he twisted the golden staff along its handle.
With a hiss, the tip of the staff extended, instantly transforming from a short staff into a golden javelin. Simultaneously, the solemn voice of the "Main God" echoed in Zheng Zha’s mind.
"Acquired Plot Item: The Spear of Judgment. Power of the thrown spear is determined by the amount of physical energy infused. Requires Internal Energy, Vampire Energy, Magic, Psionics, Cultivation Energy, or Immortal Spirit Power to utilize."
The sound of this notification stunned Zheng Zha momentarily until Jonathan grabbed his arm, "Hey! I finally see you! You still owe me three gold bricks from last time, right? Can you pay me back now? By the way, the price of gold has gone up, so you owe me five bricks now!" Zheng Zha twisted the Spear of Judgment, shrinking it back into its short staff form, and began to laugh heartily. He pulled out his spatial bag and started pouring out gold bricks until the museum curator cried out that the floor might collapse. Then, he clapped Jonathan on the shoulder, saying, "Damn, I love you, brother! Hahahaha!" Jonathan himself was stunned, staring blankly at the pile of gold bricks. Then, he picked up one brick and smacked himself hard on the head with it. The man had been knocked unconscious by a gold brick, but judging by his expression, he was completely blissful—perhaps, in his mind, being killed by gold was a kind of happiness.
"My God."
O'Connell gasped, looking at the floor, "Did you just rob the Bank of England? You're so extravagant! And what is that little pouch? How could it hold so much gold?" Zheng Zha laughed heartily. He placed the Spear of Judgment in his ring of holding, then sat on the sofa, addressing O'Connell and Evy, "Do you two want to join me on an adventure? Want to search for the Treasure of the Scorpion King? Friends, come with me to find the Scorpion King’s treasure!" Evy immediately cried out excitedly, "Yes! Do you really know where the Scorpion King's treasure is? I always thought it was just a fabrication by our ancestors; does the Scorpion King really exist in Egyptian history? Oh my God, this is so exciting!" O'Connell, however, frowned deeply, "Sorry, Zheng Zha, but we probably can't join your adventure. Seeing you pull out that much gold, I can imagine you don't lack money, but why do you still need to adventure? Can't we live a peaceful life? Remember, adventure involves immense danger, and Evy is pregnant now. I don't think this is the right time for the Legion. I apologize." Evy pouted loudly, "What are you talking about, O’Connell? Don't make decisions for me, okay? I’m not even two months pregnant, and the doctor never mentioned anything about needing bed rest. I’m strictly warning you, you’re infringing on my rights!" O'Connell turned to her fiercely, "It’s because other women don't do dangerous things like you when they're pregnant! Heaven knows why I agreed to accompany you on your honeymoon trip to Africa. Not only did Jonathan steal that foreign golden staff, but now you're talking about adventuring in that legendary valley of giant crocodiles. I honestly wanted to kill myself at that moment!" Zheng Zha gave a bitter smile and sighed, "It seems there's no choice. Then I’ll go search for the Scorpion King’s treasure alone. O’Connell, I don't lack gold, but I lack something more important than gold. My comrades died on the last mission; I planned to excavate the Book of Thoth to resurrect them, and I must also seek the Scorpion King’s treasure." O'Connell suddenly laughed loudly, "Even if she can’t go, I will definitely accompany you. Hahaha, it seems the favor I owed you last time is finally due for repayment, isn't it? Comrade, Hahahaha!" Zheng Zha paused, then also laughed aloud, "Yes, comrade, let’s go find the Scorpion King’s treasure together!" What neither of them noticed was Evy, whose eyes were darting around, a sly smile playing on her lips, as she jumped up.
