Zheng Xue patted the leather seat and said with a smile, "Captain, it seems you really have the makings of a gangster. If you weren't heading back to the 'Main God' space, you'd definitely rise quickly in this line of work."
Zheng Zha chuckled. "Just call me by my name. Aren't even the original team members chasing after the 'Captain' title these days? For now, we're all birds of a feather—moths on the same string. You need me to protect you, and I need your firepower, or at least some extra targets to draw fire. I can’t catch them all by myself."
Wang Xia suddenly asked, "Can't we kill them? Isn't this setup completely unfair to us? We were already weaker than them; if we have to fight while holding back, we might as well not fight at all." Zheng Zha knew Wang Xia was speaking the truth, and he sighed. "Fine, fight with everything you have. Don't hold back an inch during the combat, but try your best not to kill them. Once they’ve lost the ability to fight, no more attacks—that's my only requirement!" Wang Xia nodded and said no more. Everyone settled onto the leather seats to conserve energy. A few minutes later, everyone except Zheng Zha and Wang Xia had dozed off, and the car continued forward with the flow of traffic.
The car finally slowed to a stop when the road ahead became blocked. The young hoodlum tapped the small window between the front and back seats, then rolled it down. "Boss, there seems to be some trouble up ahead. The demolition crew is taking down a building and is about to detonate explosives. We won't be able to pass until after that. You'll have to wait a bit longer, Boss."
Zheng Zha nodded without much comment. Just as the hoodlum was about to close the window, he suddenly had an idea and said, "The necklace you're wearing looks very unique. Can you let me see it?" The hoodlum immediately took off the necklace, and Zheng Zha took it for a look.
The necklace held two ornaments: the foremost was a spherical skull, and behind it was a stretch limousine. When gently shaken, the skull orb would continuously tap against the limo, and the skull seemed to be smiling incessantly.
Zheng Zha’s heart lurched. He shouted loudly, "Quick! Reverse the car!" The hoodlum froze. He was about to ask what was going on, but when he met Zheng Zha's sharp gaze, he immediately shut up and started driving the car backward. But just then, a sports car sped up behind them, ramming tightly against the back of the sedan. Sweat beaded on the hoodlum's forehead; for some inexplicable reason, he also felt a prickle of deep unease—a biological instinct sensing danger. He yanked the steering wheel, trying to swerve aside, but another vehicle immediately blocked his way on that side, and the other side was likewise boxed in. In short, the sedan was trapped right where it was! "Get out! Get out now!" Zheng Zha roared, jolting the two sleeping men awake. Before they could react, the car doors clicked sharply as the locks automatically engaged. The hoodlum, however, had already jumped out of the stretch limo at the first opportunity, leaving only Zheng Zha and the other three trapped inside.
Zheng Zha felt the impending danger growing stronger. He yelled, shoving Wang Xia and the others aside, then delivered a mighty kick to the car door. A loud thud echoed, leaving a massive dent, but the door held firm—the glass merely cracked, refusing to shatter. Wang Xia, who had some experience, exclaimed in shock, "It’s a bulletproof car! Damn it, those are armored panels in the doors; they can almost withstand a standard explosion!" The more anxious Zheng Zha became, the clearer his mind grew. He instantly drew the High-Vibration Particle Cutting Dagger from his storage ring. As soon as he flicked the blade open, the roar of an explosion sounded in the distance—the building there was beginning to be demolished! Not far from the sedan carrying Zheng Zha’s team, a derelict high-rise was undergoing emergency dismantling. Workers were steadily leaving the site where the hidden explosives had already been set, awaiting the detonator button press that would bring the building down. Currently, only a massive wrecking ball rig was remotely controlling the clearing of the outer support columns. As the huge iron sphere swung violently, a pin slipped from a connecting joint, followed by a massive impact that pulverized a column. The giant sphere swung again, slamming into another support. When the sphere reached its apex, it should have begun its heavy descent, but at that instant, the bombs embedded inside the building detonated with a resounding boom. The violent shockwave tore through the structure, sending countless shards of rock and debris flying. A massive slab of stone slammed directly into the giant iron sphere at its highest point. Combined with the incoming shockwave, and amidst the deafening explosion, the massive iron ball finally shot through the air, arcing straight toward the stretch limousine caught in the traffic flow.
Zheng Zha swung his dagger and slashed down fiercely. How sharp was this High-Vibration Particle Cutting Dagger? It sliced through the car door in a single stroke. He then forcefully kicked the severed door away and leaped out himself.
"Hiss!" An arrow whistled past. While still airborne, Zheng Zha’s eyes glazed over in confusion. For some reason, the instant he left the sedan, the premonition of deadly danger struck so violently that he instinctively entered the state of unlocking his Gene Lock. In the corner of his eye, he vaguely saw two arrows, one trailing the other, being fired from far behind the car. In a flash, the rear arrow violently collided with the tail end of the front arrow, causing the lead arrow to shoot forward at several times its original speed. It struck the still-airborne Zheng Zha, sending him flying, then pierced his right shoulder, pinning him firmly against the rear end of a bus! "Ugh!" Zheng Zha immediately spat out a mouthful of blood. This arrow had struck his right lung.
Not only that, but his right shoulder bone was also damaged. In that split second, suspended in the air with no surface to push off from, he could only watch helplessly as the arrow hit him. Furthermore, the speed of an arrow shot with such terrifying skill was impossible to track with the naked eye; he truly couldn't evade it.
Wang Xia was the second person to jump from the car.
He stared dumbfounded as Zheng Zha was pinned to the back of the bus. However, his reaction was swift enough; he rolled and dove behind a nearby vehicle. Behind him, Zheng Xue also scrambled out of the car, though the lawyer was slightly slower.
After exiting, he seemed about to say something, but at that moment, the sky suddenly darkened. As Zheng Xue looked up, a massive iron sphere descended from above.
It slammed down onto the stretch limousine, crushing Zheng Xue, who was standing just outside the door, along with it. Zheng Zha and Wang Xia watched in horror as he was mashed into a bloody, pulpy ruin, utterly unrecognizable.
Zheng Zha couldn't afford to feel sickened, as the flattened limo suddenly exploded. The massive impact propelled the iron sphere hurtling toward him. Pinned to the rear of the bus, if the sphere reached him, he would immediately follow Zheng Xue’s fate, crushed against the bus tail! (Don't die, I don't want to die!) Zheng Zha violently plunged into the second stage of unlocking his Gene Lock. He reached out his left hand and yanked the arrow free. Then, planting his feet firmly against the rear of the bus, he activated his Qing Gong internally. The giant sphere was now only about a meter away. He charged toward it and forcefully kicked the sphere.
Using that momentum, he finally managed to vault onto the roof of the massive bus. Simultaneously, the giant sphere slammed violently into the rear of the bus, less than a second after he had leaped away from that gap. Describing this moment as 'a hair's breadth' would be an understatement; he had been seconds from certain death! (No, something is wrong. Why is this premonition of danger still so intense? Zhao Yingkong—if I were her, I would just need to hide nearby. If I were Zhao Yingkong...) In this life-or-death instant, the thought, "If I were Zhao Yingkong," slowly settled into Zheng Zha's mind. Without thinking, he violently flicked open his dagger and slashed fiercely behind him.
Zhao Yingkong was crouched on the roof of the bus. The moment Zheng Zha landed on the roof, she had already drawn her dagger and lunged toward his heart. But to his astonishment, Zheng Zha slashed back at her without even turning his head. A sound of clashing metal rang out—this was the first time the High-Vibration Particle Cutting Dagger had met something it could not sever. The two blades collided fiercely, the Ming Huo not even managing to shoot out a flurry of sparks. Their movements were identical: both pushed off with their feet and lunged sideways toward each other’s left side, their daggers aimed carelessly yet relentlessly at each other’s hearts.
Zhao Yingkong was highly surprised. Since enhancing her Shining Spirit attribute, her combat speed had nearly doubled. Yet, even so, Zheng Zha, who had unlocked the second stage of his Gene Lock and strengthened his Vampire Count mutation bloodline, could still keep pace with her speed. In the blink of an eye, Zheng Zha managed to strike first, hitting her left chest a fraction of a second before she did. Fortunately, she retreated just in time, but the incredibly sharp High-Vibration Particle Cutting Dagger still grazed past her left arm, slicing a deep gash from her left chest down to her arm.
Zhao Yingkong bit down hard and leaped backward next to the bus just before Zheng Zha could press his attack. Zheng Zha, however, showed no relaxation and leaped after her. But the moment he jumped, the premonition of danger struck him once more.
(This time it's Zhang Heng! If I were him, at this moment I would definitely—if I were him...) Zheng Zha was already mid-leap. From the distance, another pair of arrows shot forth. Before the two arrows, one leading and one trailing, could detonate, Zheng Zha threw his High-Vibration Particle Cutting Dagger downward, embedding it fiercely into the bus roof. He then clamped down on the dagger's hilt with both feet. Before completely clearing the bus roof, using the friction of the dagger against the metal, he managed to pull himself back down mid-air. The exploding arrows shot past, tearing through the air only a centimeter or two in front of his chest, piercing deep into the sedan ahead. Had Zheng Zha moved forward even half a centimeter further, that arrow would have meant certain death!
