Luo Feng, however, gazed thoughtfully at the soldiers of the Mang River Army before him.
The tall, imposing man at the head spoke coolly, "I am the captain of the Sixth Squad, First Brigade of the Mang River Army. Everything regarding military regulations and common sense within the army is contained within this; do as you see fit. Do not disturb your teammates’ cultivation unless there is a special situation." With that, he flipped his hand and tossed out two crystal orbs.
The crystal orbs were about the size of a finger. Luo Feng and Wu He both received one.
"Return to your cultivation and prepare!" the captain commanded.
"Yes."
Some soldiers responded, while others ignored the order, clearly indicating the captain lacked sufficient authority.
"A reminder: you are facing a Catastrophe level mission soon," a crisp voice rang out. This came from a woman with entirely green skin and green wings.
"Kufa, do you truly believe these two newcomers can survive a Catastrophe level mission?"
"Hmph."
"They haven't even received the foundational inheritance, nor have they had enough time to cultivate. How could they possibly pass a Catastrophe level mission?" The squad members shook their heads, then instantly teleported away, too lazy to exchange further pleasantries with Luo Feng and the other.
The captain glanced deeply at Luo Feng and Wu He. "Prepare yourselves well."
Swish!
He too departed.
Only Luo Feng and Wu He remained suspended in the mid-air.
"It seems our luck is rather poor," Luo Feng murmured. "Wu He, what exactly is a Catastrophe level mission?"
Wu He growled, "It's not just poor luck; it's terrible! All armies are tempered through constant life-and-death struggles. They are sent out once per Era to undertake missions assigned by the army—sometimes to attack this place, sometimes that. Once every ten thousand Eras, a mission of extremely high danger appears, which is termed 'Catastrophe level.' And once every one hundred million Eras, an even more terrifying one arises, known as 'Reincarnation level.'"
"Reincarnation level?" Luo Feng was taken aback.
"It means that encountering such a mission is equivalent to being sent for reincarnation," Wu He looked at Luo Feng.
Luo Feng smiled faintly.
The Jin World referring to a life-and-death situation as 'reincarnation' confirmed that this one-hundred-million-Era mission was genuinely perilous.
"If this were a mission for an ordinary army, neither of us would fear even the Reincarnation level," Wu He said anxiously. "But this is the Mang River Army. An ordinary mission for the Mang River Army is equivalent to a Reincarnation level mission for a regular army. A Catastrophe level mission is a disaster for geniuses like us, and Reincarnation level... that is an absolute nightmare. Even among the veteran soldiers, over half perish when facing a Reincarnation level mission!"
"Relatively speaking."
"In the regular armies, the survival rate is actually higher. Because after prolonged tempering in the regular armies, one can become an extremely powerful existence among Law Masters. Those exceptionally strong entities can generally endure the 'Reincarnation level missions,'" Wu He sighed. "The progression of strength becomes exponentially harder as one advances. Even among Law Masters, no matter how strong we become, our limits are fixed. But the army missions we face are much harder. The rate of demise is extremely high!"
Luo Feng’s expression shifted slightly.
In a regular army, if a hundred people joined, perhaps only three to five would retire alive. Did that mean the Mang River Army, a special legion comprised of geniuses, had an even lower survival rate?
It could only mean that the screening mechanism established by the God King of the Jin World was utterly insane.
"Though the danger is far greater," Wu He’s eyes held a trace of wildness, "it is also far easier for us to obtain precious inheritances and powerful treasures! Nearly every supreme expert in our Jin World, like the Void True Gods, was forged through tempering in these special legions. Ordinary legions? They are destined to remain ordinary their entire lives!"
"My father is the Master of the North True Sea. Naturally, I must become as strong as my father, or even stronger," Wu He yearned.
Luo Feng glanced at Wu He beside him, then smiled. "Let's go. We should choose an island to settle on first." Although the information in the crystal orbs was complex, it wasn't voluminous, merely outlining the military regulations and general knowledge. Luo Feng and Wu He mastered it instantly with a sweep of their divine power.
They also learned that this lake was the encampment of the Mang River Army.
The Mang River Army was divided into three brigades.
These three brigades occupied three distinct regions of the lake. The First Brigade comprised nine squads, and each squad had its own territory. Within this territory, they could select any unoccupied island as their place of cultivation.
Boom!
First, they teleported, then transformed into streaks of rainbow light, flying directly above an island.
"Soldiers from the special legions are indeed different; they can claim an island exclusively, and other experts are forbidden from trespassing," Luo Feng looked down, nodding in satisfaction. As for Wu He, he chose an island much further away.
Whoosh!
Luo Feng rapidly descended. The entire island spanned about one hundred thousand kilometers in diameter, classifying it as a small island. In the center of the island was a simple stone residence. Of course, if he were dissatisfied, he could demolish it and rebuild, but Luo Feng didn't mind; a place to rest and settle was sufficient.
"Set," Luo Feng’s divine power surged violently, plunging directly into the deep interior of the island, contacting a prismatic crystal beneath. Divine power drilled into it, and the crystal’s color shifted.
Thus, this island now had an owner!
In the stone house, Luo Feng was lying on a massive stone chair. The chair was large, but Luo Feng’s divine body had shrunk to only a hundred kilometers in size, allowing him to simply use the chair as a huge bed. His gaze swept toward the distance, where he could see the endless lake and the scattered islands far off.
"Now, I have entered the Jin World and successfully joined the Mang River Army, a special legion within the Eastern Army."
"The next army mission deployment is exactly one year from now."
Luo Feng contemplated his path.
Supreme true treasures? Mechanical flow treasures?
All required military merits!
"I urgently need the blood, scales, and other materials from True God experts right now," Luo Feng thought secretly. "I must acquire as many True God corpses as possible and find opportunities to send them back to the original universe."
In these eight million Eras, Luo Feng’s efforts were mainly expended on researching the composition of life. Because humans are flesh-and-blood lifeforms, they are destined to remain so even when their avatars merge after reaching True God status. Therefore, Luo Feng’s accomplishments in the study of life structure were the highest regarding flesh-and-blood lifeforms. Now, through analyzing the structure of life genes, Luo Feng had forcibly transformed the 'New Blood Sea Avatar' into a flesh-and-blood lifeform, elevating its life gene level to 10,081 times.
However, the Demon Killer race avatar was an energy lifeform, and Luo Feng had spent too little effort in that area. Although he had some comprehension, its life gene level was only 5,000 times.
"My progress is too slow."
"I haven't even broken through 10,081 times, let alone 90,000 times?" Luo Feng felt anxious.
According to his understanding, for the divine power path, breakthroughs in genes become increasingly difficult the higher one climbs. He was already at the 10,081 times life gene level. It wasn't difficult to spend sufficient time and energy to analyze this level—he had indeed fully analyzed this level, allowing the 'New Nether Sea Avatar' to rapidly restructure itself internally from a thousand times gene level, much like a lump of charcoal instantly turning into a diamond, transforming the internal structure of the New Nether Sea Avatar into a powerful divine body of one hundred thousand kilometers with perfect genes. But breaking past the 'limit' of 10,081 times to reach 15,000 times or higher was much harder.
On this path, there were several major checkpoints.
The first checkpoint was breaking past the perfect limit.
The second checkpoint was breaking past thirty thousand times the gene level.
The third checkpoint was breaking past sixty thousand times.
The fourth checkpoint was breaking past ninety thousand times.
From a gene structure perspective, a True God sits above a Universe Master. To discover more directions for breakthrough, Luo Feng currently only had the corpse of 'Vast Thunder Star Master.' The amount of blood and hair from his two teachers, 'Sitting Mountain Guest' and 'Chaos City Lord,' was too little; he needed much more.
As for cultivation methods, Luo Feng already understood them:
One, analyze billions of lifeforms and billions of material structures.
Two, create life.
Creating life that can proliferate is the hardest!
The life created by the Nine Nether Lord originated from his ocean; they were all energy lifeforms and could not propagate. They were the simplest and least difficult.
But to make life propagate on its own involves the 'Origin of Life,' which is far more complex and greatly aids in analyzing life.
Of course, Luo Feng estimated that he could, at minimum, evolve his divine body to over 50,000 times. Only at that level would he be qualified to create life that can propagate, thus assisting him in advancing further on the divine power path.
"A massive number of True God corpses! A massive amount of military merit!" Luo Feng mused internally.
"Now, let's go check out the basic inheritance."
Lying on the stone chair atop the stone house, Luo Feng instantly transformed into a streak of light and flew away.
On the central island in the lake lay the basic inheritance of the Mang River Army.
Whoosh!
Luo Feng quickly landed. He saw rows of stone pillars on the island, each topped with a crystal orb. In the distance, the strange beast, Wu He, was swaying his head, his body coiled around one of the stone pillars.
"Galaxy," Wu He instantly released the stone pillar, stamping his hooves, shaking the wings on his neck, and flying over like lightning.
"Why are you only coming now? The Catastrophe level mission is approaching quickly; we must hurry and study this basic inheritance," Wu He urged. "Although this is the foundational inheritance, there is so much that even my father couldn't teach me. It's precious! For ordinary legions... every single piece of inheritance must be exchanged for military merit. Only we special legions receive the basic inheritance for free upon entry. But anything more profound requires military merit to exchange."
"Hurry and look at yours; I will continue my comprehension," Wu He stopped talking, clearly trying to seize every moment.
Luo Feng nodded.
There were about a hundred crystal orbs on the island.
Luo Feng instantly dispersed his divine power, penetrating every single crystal orb. A flood of information surged into him.
"Refining ultimate treasures?"
"Refining machinery?"
"Melee combat?"
"Illusion arts?"
"Combined techniques?"
"Secret arts for burning divine power?"
Luo Feng was startled after reading through them. He had assumed the directly provided basic inheritance would be quite ordinary, but it appeared highly practical.
The numerous combat skills, combined secret arts, and secret arts for burning divine power could all enhance combat effectiveness. Many techniques related to cultivation only covered breakthroughs up to the True God level and stopped there. The secret art for burning divine power only had a first level, equivalent to the first volume of Severance and Annihilation. According to the description of the secret art for burning divine power, Law Masters could learn the first level, and True Gods could learn the second.
Naturally, all future inheritances... would need to be exchanged for military merit.
