"That terrifying fellow with the blade, thank heavens he ended up fighting Wuhe of the North True Sea. Otherwise, we'd be finished." The surviving warriors and exotic beasts were ecstatic, only a few mourning the loss of comrades, having witnessed countless comrades fall since childhood.
There is a legend throughout the Jin World: to fall is to be reincarnated. The beings of the Jin World were accustomed to this, offering silent blessings to their fallen companions rather than grieving too deeply.
After all...
The path of the strong is one where the vast majority are destined to perish! To lose two-thirds just upon entering an army—one can imagine what lies ahead.
"Quick, quick, quick!"
"Hurry up and go."
In this desolate desert expanse, a colossal archway materialized from thin air. Three True Gods emerged from the gateway, shouting orders loudly. The surviving warriors and exotic beasts obediently headed toward it, as the next round of screening was imminent.
"You two," one True God soldier, clad in dark crimson armor and sporting a massive tail, his single red eye fixed upon Luo Feng and the exotic beast, commanded, "Follow me. I will take you to the Python River Army."
"Yes," Luo Feng acknowledged.
"Yes," echoed the mutilated exotic beast.
The two followed the True God, moving first toward the archway.
"Galaxy, good luck!" North Wind called out.
"Good luck!" Luo Feng turned back to shout as well.
And just like that...
The two were separated. Within the army, their wills counted for nothing. North Wind’s strength still fell short of the requirements for the "Python River Army." Though he was elite, he wasn't a true prodigy, so he wouldn't be immediately absorbed. Only through exceptional performance over the years might he still be drawn into a special corps later on.
But by then, it would likely be a different special corps, not the Python River Army.
Luo Feng and the exotic beast followed the one-eyed True God, flying across the immense military encampment.
Their speed approached the speed of light.
"Complete spatial lock," Luo Feng muttered inwardly. "It seems instant movement is completely impossible within the camp."
"My name is Wuhe, from the North True Sea. My father is the master of the North True Sea!" A voice resonated.
Luo Feng turned to look and grinned, flashing his teeth: "My name is Galaxy! Home is wherever I roam!"
"Oh!" The exotic beast, "Wuhe," nodded his grotesque head in understanding. In the Jin World, tribal wars and exotic beast wars were countless; many tribal people were displaced, becoming wanderers! Of course, some chose to wander willingly to temper themselves.
"You are quite formidable," Wuhe praised.
"You aren't bad yourself," Luo Feng teased with a smile.
"The Eastern Army has many special corps; the Python River Army is just one among many," Wuhe transmitted mentally. "During the initial screening for army entry, only a tiny fraction of discovered geniuses are selected for special corps and then assigned to various armies. So, in a short time, we two are the only new recruits in the Python River Army. Especially right after joining, the veterans will look down on us. We two must stick together."
"Stick together?" Luo Feng was surprised.
"A soldier's life is a life of combat," Wuhe stated. "We go out to fight again and again. Those veterans who managed to enter special corps were already exceptional, and they have received the army's legacy, cultivating for a long time, and cooperating through countless life-and-death trials. They are indeed formidable."
Luo Feng nodded, understanding the implication.
He wasn't joking.
The soldiers of the Python River Army might be powerful, but compared to himself, who possessed the inheritance of the Duan Dong River, they might still fall short—unless they possessed "Mechanical Flow treasures" capable of fighting above their level!
The Eastern Army camp was vast, bordering on infinite.
Luo Feng and Wuhe, following the one-eyed True God, traveled by flying and "wormhole teleportation," taking nearly half a day to reach an incredibly towering grand hall, filled everywhere with silhouettes of people and beasts.
"Wait here, you two," the one-eyed True God commanded.
Luo Feng and Wuhe obediently waited outside the majestic hall while the True God entered alone.
"What is this place?" Luo Feng asked Wuhe beside him.
"This is one of the supply depots," Wuhe swayed his head, the two wings on his neck flapping. "Our Python River Army's supplies should be stored here. Look, many soldiers are going in; they must all be here to exchange for equipment."
"Exchange for equipment?" Luo Feng was surprised.
"Yes!"
Wuhe nodded his large head deeply. "All soldiers train through repeated combat trials! In these repeated life-and-death ordeals, a large number of soldiers perish. It's fine for ordinary soldiers; their attrition rate is considered high. But for soldiers of our Python River Army, facing the same level of danger, few would perish.
"So, what we experience will be more dangerous! Correspondingly, our spoils of war can be exchanged for military merits, and merits can be exchanged for equipment." Wuhe continued, "The more military merits one accumulates, the more outstanding their performance, and the greater the benefits they can exchange for. You might even be able to exchange for a team of True Gods to become your personal guard—though the military merits required for that are terrifyingly high."
Luo Feng chuckled wryly.
Personal guards?
What a shame, the natives of the Jin World would undoubtedly die if they ever left the "Jin World"!
"Are there Mechanical Flow treasures here too?" Luo Feng pressed.
"Of course, there are," Wuhe’s cold eyes held a flicker of excitement. "Many powerful Mechanical Flow treasures exist. But the military merits required are just as ridiculously high. The more miraculous the Mechanical Flow treasure, the more precious it is! My father acquired a powerful Mechanical Flow treasure back then, and even after retiring, he could dominate the entire North True Sea. However, to obtain a powerful Mechanical Flow treasure, even a True God needs a long time to accumulate military merits. For us, merely Lords of Law, accumulation is even slower, making it hard to acquire them. Even if we could, it would take a very, very long time."
Luo Feng silently took note.
A long time?
The Jin World was an ancient world; perhaps an entire reincarnation cycle counted as normal here. After all, True Gods were numerous, and Void True Gods were not uncommon. Even Wuhe called it "a very, very long time," suggesting the required duration was indeed immense.
He, coming from the Cosmic Sea, lacked only time.
"They're coming," Wuhe looked into the distance.
Luo Feng followed his gaze.
They saw the one-eyed True God emerging from the supply depot hall. With a casual wave, two beams of light descended, landing before Luo Feng and Wuhe.
"Although you are only Lords of Law, since you are joining the Python River Army, you are entitled to a set of True God-level armor—the 'True God-level Python River Armor.' It's only the Python River Armor," the one-eyed True God scanned both of them. "It will allow you to survive longer in life-or-death battles, especially during the recruit phase, helping you endure. Now, follow me to the Python River Army."
Luo Feng held the set of armor.
True God-level armor?
Feeling its oppressive power, this would be Ultimate Treasure Armor in the Cosmic Sea. Yet, here in the Jin World, it was merely standard-issue armor for True Gods. General Lord of Law soldiers didn't qualify for it—only special corps received special treatment.
"It seems," Luo Feng mused, "that armor grades likely range from True God-level up to Void True God-level..."
"Ultimate Treasures must also have varying degrees of strength."
"This is the most ordinary type of Ultimate Treasure. The Black Prison Tower and the Yan Jun Rod are probably also ordinary Ultimate Treasures," Luo Feng thought. "But the Slaughtering Wu Wings and the Star Tower are clearly much more unique."
The one-eyed True God glanced backward: "Quick, recognize the ownership and put them on! All Python River Army soldiers must wear them."
"Yes," Luo Feng responded.
"Mine isn't as good as yours," Wuhe transmitted to Luo Feng.
Luo Feng smiled faintly.
He hadn't brought his Slaughtering Wu Wings or Star Tower upon first entry. Therefore, this Python River Armor was indeed urgently needed by him.
"Recognizing ownership is easy." Luo Feng quickly succeeded; the difficulty was low, on par with the Yan Jun Rod.
Swish!
The Mad Demon Annihilation God Armor quickly retracted, and the Python River Armor instantly manifested on his body surface. A layer of dark crimson armor rapidly covered Luo Feng, and the helmet bore the shape of a "peculiar python head," with rings of black patterns etched across the dark crimson plating.
The exotic beast next to him, "Wuhe," also swiftly transformed into a dark crimson beast, his body similarly encircled by those black markings.
This time, Luo Feng and the others spent nearly three full days in the military camp before finally arriving at a vast lake dotted with countless islands—perhaps tens of millions. The diameter of the entire lake was measurable in light-years, and gazing out, one could spot streaks of dark crimson figures.
"That must be the Python River Army troops," Luo Feng observed.
Each clad in dark crimson armor, their helmets featuring that peculiar python head design. "These are your new recruits for the Python River Army," the one-eyed True God roared, his voice surging across the endless lake. "You are assigned to the First Battalion, Sixth Squad."
After shouting, the True God glanced back at Luo Feng and the beast Wuhe: "Hope to see you both again."
Whoosh!
Immediately, streaks of light flashed in the distance—they were teleporting instantly. While instant movement was forbidden in the outer zones, it was apparently possible within a certain radius of the lake! Over twenty figures instantly flashed over, then hovered beside Luo Feng and Wuhe, flying suspended in the air. These twenty figures included humanoid beings and creatures resembling exotic beasts.
They were sizing up Luo Feng and Wuhe.
"My father is the master of the North True Sea!" Wuhe announced proudly, holding his head high.
"In the army, no matter how powerful your father is, he can't help you," a tall, muscular man among the twenty figures suspended ahead stated directly. "You two, state your names and what you are good at."
"I am Wuhe," Wuhe roared. "I am good at... I am good at it! My divine body is enormous; it stretches over eight million kilometers."
"Hmm, the divine body size is decent. And you?" The tall, muscular man looked toward Luo Feng.
"I am Galaxy," Luo Feng replied. "My strength is slightly better than Wuhe's, and I'm better at close combat dodging."
The tall, muscular man, beneath his massive, curving horns, scrutinized Luo Feng and Wuhe with gray eyes. "Your talent should be considered within the normal standard for our Python River Army. However, in half a month, our Sixth Squad will be heading out... You two are quite unlucky. Hurry up and accept the basic inheritance of our Python River Army. Learn as much as you can, gain whatever strength you can! You arrive just in time to face a 'Disaster'-level mission... Unlucky indeed."
