Everyone stared in awe at the submachine gun in Zheng Zha’s hands, yet he paid them no mind, speaking only to himself: “The meaning of Reward Points is that for every horror movie you survive, you receive a fixed reward of 1,000 points. Furthermore, some horror movies feature Special Missions; completing these grants extra Reward Points or even the priceless Branch Storyline Count. I will explain the Branch Storyline Count later. After completing each horror movie, you can return to a place called the ‘Main God’ Space. There, you can use these Reward Points to exchange for many things, including weapons or medicine, and even enhance your physical attributes. The purpose of the Branch Storyline Count is to exchange for the rare Enhancement Attributes available in the ‘Main God’ Space—attributes like those of Spider-Man or many other legendary figures. That is the basic situation.
“Additionally, if you save up fifty thousand Reward Points, you can choose to return to the real world. The horror movie world we are currently in is a film from the Final Destination series, and we are in the second installment. Those who have seen it should be familiar with the plot; those who haven't, don’t despair. In this horror movie world, we don't need to consciously familiarize ourselves with the plot because I believe Death will likely keep changing the method of killing to toy with us. That’s essentially it, everyone take care. If we can survive and return to the ‘Main God’ Space, we’ll share a drink to celebrate.”
As Zheng Zha spoke, he already saw the vehicle at the very front of the traffic suddenly blocking the lane ahead, and a police car was already speeding toward it. This meant the horror movie was about to begin, and simultaneously, he had received the notification from the “Main God” awarding him one hundred Reward Points.
They all stared at him dumbfounded. These people couldn't believe a word Zheng Zha had said. Then again, it was only natural; no mentally sound ordinary person would so readily believe what a stranger said, unless that person was an idiot who had been tricked dozens of times and still hadn’t learned their lesson.
But just as Zheng Zha turned his head to look at the front of the traffic jam, the soldier sitting on the ground suddenly leaped up. As Zheng Zha turned, the soldier snatched the submachine gun, jamming his finger into the trigger guard, thus preventing the gun from firing, and simultaneously kicked out, aiming directly at Zheng Zha’s chest.
Zheng Zha’s reaction speed was at least twice that of an ordinary person. The instant he turned, he effortlessly blocked with one hand, then placed his other hand on the submachine gun and squeezed hard. Using his crimson inner force in that squeeze, the gun was crushed and fell apart, bearing the distinct imprint of five fingers on its barrel.
The other men had been planning to scramble up, especially the handsome, dyed-hair youth who was bleeding from his nose after being hit by Zheng Zha; he was struggling furiously to support himself. But Zheng Zha’s display was utterly stunning. Everyone was frozen, staring at the mangled submachine gun, especially the obvious five-finger marks on the barrel. Even the soldier’s eyes showed a look of sheer horror.
“There’s nothing to be surprised about; everything I said is the absolute truth. As long as you can survive a few more horror movies and acquire Enhancement Attributes, you will definitely be no less powerful than me, Zheng Zha.”
Zheng Zha held a deep respect for soldiers, especially those from his own country. Though he personally disliked the police, he felt genuine reverence for the military from the bottom of his heart. So, he extended his hand toward the soldier. The soldier paused, clearly a resolute figure despite his imposing height. He shook Zheng Zha’s hand: “My name is Wang Renjia, but everyone calls me Wang Xia. You can call me Wang Xia too.”
Zheng Zha nodded. He said, “You have great potential. If not for some unforeseen events, you should be able to become a member of our team. May I ask, what kind of soldier are you?” Wang Xia looked slightly taken aback: “I’m a scout, one of the reconnaissance types. If you hadn't shown that move just now, I would have already started locking your wrist bone, hehe. But looking at your strength and reaction speed, I probably would have broken my own bones before I managed to lock you, hehe.”
Zheng Zha chuckled and was about to speak when the beautiful woman with closed eyes suddenly said, “May I ask, Mr. Zheng, does that mean there are other veteran members besides you? And you’ve even formed a team—are they as strong as you? How does one join your team?” This beautiful, closed-eyed woman was truly stunning, possessing an ethereal, serene aura. Her skin, white as snow, looked delicate enough to break with a breath. Her neatly braided hair was over a meter long, reaching nearly to her calves—she was a top-tier beauty of pure temperament.
Zheng Zha let out a breath: “We have indeed formed a team—six people in total, all veterans who survived the last movie or more. Under normal circumstances, I should be asking for your names, former occupations, individual qualities, and so on. If you meet the requirements, you can become a temporary member of our group, receiving our limited aid and protection. If you survive this horror movie, we will accept you as a full member, complete with our team’s rules, but also enjoying the benefits and support of our members. Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, that’s impossible; those five individuals left due to certain issues, leaving me alone here.”
The young girl with dyed hair seemed to have been constantly watching the handsome youth with dyed hair. She even offered him a tissue, but now she sneered, “Hey, perhaps your strength is too weak, and they abandoned you? Is that why you have to come bully us rookies?”
Zheng Zha ignored her, focusing his attention on the front of the traffic. The movie’s heroine had begun to cry loudly, meaning the plot was about to unfold. They too would soon have to leave this bus to face whatever bizarre ways Death might devise to kill them.
Wang Xia frowned and said, “I’m not very familiar with these foreign movies. Can someone briefly tell me the plot?” Although he said this, everyone else was lost in their own thoughts, or two were whispering privately. Zheng Zha frowned slightly and quickly said, “Then let me give you a brief rundown of the story. The opening of the Final Destination series began a few years ago…” Zheng Zha rapidly recounted the story of the series, specifically mentioning how Death sets up events that seem coincidental but inevitably lead to death due to those very coincidences. Of course, he also mentioned the premonitions that Death sometimes exhibits before striking, noting that those who perceive these warnings often manage to escape doom.
Wang Xia also furrowed his brow: “So, does that mean a person’s life and death are entirely decided by luck?” Zheng Zha replied with a bitter smile, “It seems that’s all there is to it. Let’s hope everyone’s luck holds out. Additionally, sharp observational skills are indispensable. As long as one can discover the premonitions in advance, the chance of escaping death will generally increase significantly.”
Wang Xia nodded: “What do you plan to do? How will you arrange us eight people?” Zheng Zha hesitated, shaking his head: “Although I am a veteran, this is my first time experiencing the Final Destination series. In a way, I am as vulnerable as you are. Moreover, I have my own mission—I need to track down those five veteran members. I have some unresolved conflicts with them.”
“Everyone, please look closely at these watches; they will guide you on how to survive the horror movie. As for the rest, I suggest you all find lodging in the plaza. If you can hold out for five days, you can safely return to the ‘Main God’ Space. Here are gold bricks, one for each of you. You can exchange them for US dollars; arrange your finances as you see fit. I won’t give you firearms for now, as I don’t have enough for all eight of you. I do have three communicators that can locate me, allowing us to keep in touch. You can split into three teams, or you can all stick together to weather this difficulty. What are your opinions? I’ll give you three minutes to discuss. Be quick.”
All eight were stunned. The young girl with dyed hair was the fastest to reach an agreement with the handsome youth, forming one group and explicitly stating they didn't want to endure any hardship with the others. The dyed-hair youth snatched the gold brick with extreme speed and immediately stuffed it inside his underwear.
Finally, the discussions concluded. They split into only two teams: one comprising the young girl and the dyed-hair youth, while the rest decided to stick with Wang Xia. Only the closed-eyed beauty remained silent. After a long pause, she timidly asked Zheng Zha, “Mr. Zheng, may I act alongside you? Compared to them, I feel my chances of survival are higher with you.”
Zheng Zha looked at the closed-eyed beauty with a flicker of pity. He had already realized that she was blind. In a horror movie world like this, unless one safely passed the first trial, she had the highest mortality rate of everyone. Thus, he could only shake his head silently: “I apologize; I have matters that must be seen through. Wang Xia, please look after her. Unless an accident occurs, please don’t let her die due to human negligence.”
As Zheng Zha finished speaking, he shot a sharp glare at the handsome, dyed-hair youth. The youth’s eyes were shifty, clearly harboring some ill intentions. His gaze kept drifting toward the heavy gold brick in the closed-eyed beauty’s hand, his greed instantly apparent.
Wang Xia nodded solemnly. Before he could speak, a massive truck carrying other vehicles suddenly sped from the distance, violently smashing the vehicle next to the heroine far away. Then, with a booming explosion, the entire car was turned into a huge fireball. At the same instant, the bus doors burst open—the world of the horror movie had begun!
