Deng Yu and Deng Jiao flew swiftly to a Taoist temple nestled on a side peak. Before them, this temple appeared considerably more humble than the Celestial Master’s Mansion, falling even short of the standard of Ziyuan's Ling Gong School's temple.
Standing before the low, crumbling earthen wall of the temple entrance, Deng Yu tapped the rusted iron ring of the wooden door and called out crisply, "Martial Uncle Zhang, Martial Uncle Zhang, are you there?"
Not long after, a bright, clear girl's voice drifted from within. A moment later, the wooden door creaked open. A youthful, charming face peered out, curiously sizing up Deng Yu and Deng Jiao.
This girl was Zhang Liufang. She asked inquisitively, "Who are you two? What business do you have with my master?"
Deng Yu craned her neck to peer through the gap in the door. She smiled, "I am Deng Yu, and this is my elder sister, Deng Jiao. We were sent by Senior Sister Zou Ping to find Martial Uncle Zhang Kongyun."
Zhang Liufang's eyes lit up. She pushed the door wide open with a squeak, saying delightedly, "Are you the Sword Souls from the Three Absolutes Formation? You are so beautiful... and are you twins?"
Deng Jiao blushed slightly from the compliment, but Deng Yu happily accepted it all, laughing, "Yes, we are twins! Is Martial Uncle Zhang around? We need to ask him for a favor."
Zhang Liufang stood aside, eagerly taking Deng Yu and Deng Jiao by the arm. She observed the subtle differences between them as she led them inside, laughing as she walked, "My master is in there. What do you need him for?"
Deng Yu smiled and replied, "It's not us who need him, it's Senior Sister Zou Ping."
Zhang Liufang asked with a laugh, "Senior Sister Zou Ping? Isn't she on duty today? What is she looking for the master for? Hehe, isn't she afraid the stench will get her?"
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao both asked curiously, "Stench?"
Zhang Liufang laughed and pointed toward a low red wall not far away. "Yes, my master is tending his vegetable patch, fertilizing it with manure right now. It stinks terribly! If you don't mind the smell, go find him. I certainly don't want to go near it." As she spoke, she pinched her nose as if she could already smell it.
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao exchanged glances. Both were fastidious girls, and hearing of such a task, they instantly felt the air around them turn foul. They hesitated, uncertain.
Just then, a loud shout came from behind the temple wall: "Hey, you big-nosed one, let go, just let go!"
Zhang Liufang burst into a fit of giggles, covering her mouth. "Hehe, that foreigner is messing with Master again!"
As Deng Yu and Deng Jiao stared in confusion, Zhang Kongyun rounded the corner of the wall, looking furious. He held a wooden ladle, while a hulking, blond, blue-eyed man clung tightly to his leg, shouting incessantly, "Master, Master, take me as a disciple!"
This man was John. Zhang Kongyun, possessing the Golden Body Divine Power, dared not use it on John, fearing that any surge of his True Essence might only exacerbate John's injuries.
Zhang Kongyun dragged John a few steps. John held onto his leg like a burlap sack, refusing to let go despite being hauled along.
Zhang Kongyun was so exasperated he began to laugh. He raised the wooden ladle high and threatened loudly, "Hey, if you don't let go, I'll splash manure on you!"
John merely grinned foolishly, tilting his head back, his mouth agape, looking as if he were a helpless infant begging for sustenance!
Zhang Liufang nearly gagged, looking at John in utter dismay. "Hey! You can't eat that stuff! What kind of mouth is that? Aren't you afraid Master will actually throw it? He's capable of it!"
John seemed not to hear, his mouth wide open, issuing sounds of 'ah ah,' as if Zhang Kongyun held the greatest delicacy in the world and he awaited it with keen anticipation.
Zhang Kongyun's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. He glared furiously at John for a long moment before resentfully lowering the ladle. "Fine, I surrender to you! I won't splash you, alright? Let go! Let go!"
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao had been on Dragon Tiger Mountain long enough to know that Zhang Kongyun was an extremely low-profile but immensely powerful cultivator of the orthodox lineage. Seeing him so utterly flustered by this blond, blue-eyed foreigner, they couldn't help but suppress a shocked laugh.
Zhang Liufang kept stifling her chuckles. She giggled to Deng Yu and Deng Jiao, "This foreigner’s mind isn't quite right; I'm the one who picked him up. He’s quite amusing; he’s been giving Master a hard time these past few days!"
Seeing Zhang Kongyun address him, John broke into a foolish grin. "Master, take me as a disciple!"
Since bringing John back, Zhang Kongyun's life had become absolute chaos. This big-nosed man seemed to possess endless energy, pestering him from morning till night to accept him as a student. Yet, John's vital energy was entirely disordered, and Zhang Kongyun dared not use any force, lest he worsen the man's condition. This situation had become a case of nurturing a tiger only to invite disaster—a predicament impossible to resolve!
Zhang Kongyun rubbed his temples in frustration and couldn't help but scold Zhang Liufang loudly, "Hey, you imp! Are you just going to stand there watching the show? The big-nosed one was fine just a moment ago; why is he having an episode now? Hurry up and help me get him off!"
Zhang Liufang burst into laughter, making a face at Zhang Kongyun. "Master, I’m powerless too! He's clinging to your leg so tightly, I can't pull him off. He’s surprisingly strong!"
Zhang Kongyun snapped, "I don't care! Use whatever means you must, but get him off me quickly! This is an outrage!"
Zhang Liufang giggled sweetly, "Master, he wants to be your disciple so badly, just accept him!"
Zhang Kongyun's eyes widened. "Nonsense! How can I take a foreigner as a disciple?"
Zhang Liufang said cheerfully, "What does it matter? You can just play along for a bit. Maybe if you accept him, he'll stop bothering you."
Zhang Kongyun pondered this but shook his head again. "No, no, accepting a disciple is not something to joke about! It's not a childish game!"
Zhang Liufang shrugged at him. "Then I can't help you." Turning to Deng Yu and Deng Jiao, she said, "Have you both seen? Master can't possibly go out looking like this! Imagine if the dignified Golden Body master of the Orthodox Unity Sect is clinging to by a foreigner who won't let go—if people saw that, they’d laugh their teeth out!"
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao looked like they were trying, but failing, to stifle their laughter, their shoulders trembling slightly. Deng Yu managed to choke out, "Martial Uncle Zhang, Senior Sister Zou Ping really has something urgent. Perhaps you should go see about it first?"
Zhang Kongyun rolled his eyes dramatically. "How can I go looking like this? Can you think of a solution?"
Deng Yu bit her lip, troubled. Deng Jiao, standing nearby, suddenly said softly, "Martial Uncle Zhang, Zou Ping mentioned that you once promised Martial Uncle Zhang Ling that if that person ever came to Dragon Tiger Mountain, you had promised to intervene."
Zhang Kongyun paused. "I promised Senior Sister Zhang Ling? Promised her what?" He turned to look at Zhang Liufang in confusion. "What did I promise her? Who is that person?"
Zhang Liufang thought for a moment and ventured tentatively, "Could she possibly mean Li Wudi?"
Zhang Kongyun’s memory snapped into place. A fierce light shot from his eyes. "Li Wudi? That brat dares to show up at Dragon Tiger Mountain? Hey, young lady, is Zou Ping talking about this fellow?"
Deng Yu answered crisply, "I don't know, but it seems likely? Senior Sister Zou Ping sounds quite wary of him."
Zhang Kongyun chuckled darkly. "Zou Ping is always haughty, only truly respecting Senior Brother Zhang Tianhe; she looks down on all the others. If she's this wary, it must be him! Very well, I've been wanting to meet him myself. Since the fellow has come to my doorstep, I'll go take a look!"
The moment he moved, he felt his foot sink. He saw John still looking up at him with a foolish grin, repeatedly crying, "Master, Master!"
Good heavens, he almost forgot about this dead weight clinging to him!
Zhang Kongyun felt a massive headache coming on. He roared, "I am not your master! Let go now!"
Seeing this, John looked terrified and wrapped his arms even tighter around the leg, shouting, "Master, don't leave me behind!"
Zhang Liufang couldn't help but laugh heartily. "Master, just take him! It would be fun to have a foreigner as my junior martial brother!"
Zhang Kongyun looked distressed. He tried coaxing John tentatively, "Hey, how about I temporarily take you as a disciple for one month? After a month... you won't be my disciple anymore. Would that work?"
Zhang Liufang laughed in exasperation. "Master, you're just deceiving yourself! Does he even understand a word you're saying? How can you bully a simpleton?"
But John beamed with joy, nodding rapidly. "Good, good, Master, Master!" He immediately released Zhang Kongyun's leg and began banging his head on the ground in Kowtow.
Seeing that John had finally let go, Zhang Kongyun sighed in relief. He pointed at John and said, "From now on, you are forbidden from standing directly behind me and suddenly hugging my leg! That is the first rule. Do you understand?"
John nodded rapidly like a chick pecking rice. "Yes, yes, understood, Master!"
Zhang Kongyun nodded with satisfaction, then added, "I have to go out now. You stay here and guard the place. Understood?"
John was greatly alarmed and immediately lunged back toward Zhang Kongyun's leg, shouting, "Master, take me with you!"
This time, Zhang Kongyun was prepared and John couldn't get a grip. He flashed away, instantly appearing outside the temple gate, shouting back to Deng Yu and Deng Jiao, "Hurry up and move!"
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao seemed to wake from a daze and followed Zhang Kongyun, dashing out of the temple grounds.
Zhang Liufang also ran out, laughing, glancing back at John. She saw him chase Zhang Kongyun for a couple of steps before tumbling to the ground, crying loudly like a child.
Zhang Liufang chuckled, shook her head, and waved at John. "Hey, big nose, watch the house carefully! We'll be right back!"
Since Dragon Tiger Mountain was crowded with visitors at the time, Zhang Kongyun's group dared not fly about overhead. They simply navigated the winding mountain paths in a rapid sprint.
While running, Deng Yu asked Zhang Liufang, "Senior Sister Zhang Liufang, who is this Li Wudi you mentioned? Is he very powerful?"
"Hehe, finally someone called me Senior Sister! I'm so happy! Now that you two are here, I’m no longer the youngest disciple of the Orthodox Unity Sect!" Zhang Liufang giggled, but when she mentioned Li Wudi, a look of admiration crossed her face. She nodded. "Of course, that fellow is powerful! It's such a shame you two missed the Lotus Picking Assembly! Li Wudi single-handedly defeated masters from major sects at the assembly, and then crushed Ju Zhizi, the sorceress from the True Words Esoteric Sect, saving face for our Chinese cultivation world without shedding a drop of blood. How could he not be formidable? Think about it—if he weren't powerful, the cultivation world wouldn't have given him the nickname Li Wudi!"
Deng Yu asked curiously, "But Senior Sister Zou Ping seemed to dislike him greatly. Why don't you dislike him, Senior Sister Zhang Liufang?"
Zhang Liufang sighed. "That's because Senior Sister Zou Ping has a crush on Senior Brother Zhang Tianhe. She’s loved him from afar for ages, but Senior Brother Zhang Tianhe secretly loves True Person Ziyuan, and True Person Ziyuan, annoyingly, spends all her time with Li Wudi—their relationship looks very close! Ah, what a complicated tangle of feelings! It seems Senior Sister Zou Ping is destined for unhappiness!"
Deng Yu then asked, "What about you, Senior Sister Zhang Liufang? Do you like him?"
Zhang Liufang answered without hesitation, "Of course! It’s one thing that Li Wudi is skilled in combat, but what’s most rare is that he is a man of profound feeling and integrity. As the saying goes, rare treasures are easy to find, but a man of true feeling is hard to come by! If I had a man like that loving me, I'd be ecstatic!"
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao exchanged glances, becoming even more curious about this Li Wudi. Deng Yu tentatively asked Zhang Liufang, "Then... Senior Sister Zhang Liufang, could you take us to see Li Wudi later?"
Zhang Liufang grinned. "Stop calling me Senior Sister Zhang Liufang. It feels strange. Just call me Liufang. Those few times you called me Senior Sister just now made me very happy."
Deng Yu smiled too and nodded. "Alright, Liufang... Senior Sister, I'll stay right behind you to take a look later, okay? I remember Senior Sister Zhang Ling explicitly forbade us from wandering around. If she finds out we went to the main compound, she’ll be furious."
In high spirits, Zhang Liufang patted her chest laughingly. "Don't worry, don't worry, I'm here, everything will be fine!"
The three young women chatted animatedly as they swiftly followed Zhang Kongyun, soon arriving before the Celestial Master’s Mansion. The entrance was thronged with curious visitors, pointing and chattering at the roof of the mansion.
Zhang Liufang took one look and gasped sharply!
Hanging from the eaves on either side of the mansion's sign board were two Taoist figures, suspended motionlessly as if they were clothes being aired out.
Zhang Liufang was momentarily speechless. "What in the world is this?"
At the same time, Deng Yu and Deng Jiao cried out in alarm, "Who did this? This is outrageous!"
Zhang Liufang stammered, "Could it be Li Wudi? I suspect only he has the audacity and ability to do something like this."
Zhang Kongyun's face showed a trace of anger. He snorted and his gaze swept toward a young man in the crowd.
Zhang Liufang spotted a handsome young man standing next to an exceptionally beautiful young woman. The pair were laughing and chatting as if no one else were present, surrounded by Orthodox Unity Sect Taoists who glared at them but dared not make a move.
Zhang Liufang immediately tugged Deng Yu’s arm and exclaimed, "Look quickly, that's Li Wudi!"
Deng Yu and Deng Jiao followed her pointing finger and both shuddered. Deng Yu blurted out, "Isn't that Li Yundong? He... he is Li Wudi?"
Zhang Liufang looked surprised. "Yes, Li Yundong is Li Wudi! You know him?"
Deng Jiao also looked shocked. She murmured quietly, "He's my classmate!"
