Though Li Yundong preferred a low profile, with so many beautiful women accompanying him, keeping a low profile was an impossibility. He arrived back in Hongsheng New District under a deluge of gasps and envious stares.
The group of little vixens made a lively chatter on the street that wasn't quite noisy, but once they entered the quiet residential area, especially the building itself, they instantly sounded like a flock of geese, making Li Yundong’s head spin.
This was particularly true when they all crammed into the elevator. It was so packed with beautiful young women that anyone waiting to get on caught a glimpse through the opening doors and was instantly startled. There stood Li Yundong right at the front, with a host of beauties behind him—each with distinct charms, but every single one a peerless vision.
Those people were so shocked that the men felt utterly inadequate, nearly turning to jump off a building right then and there, while the women nearly clawed out their own eyes, cursing their parents for not bestowing them with a better appearance. Even though Li Yundong made room for them, they absolutely refused to board the elevator. They just shook their heads like rattles, watching dumbfounded as the doors closed, silently escorting Li Yundong and his entourage of beauties upstairs.
Only after the elevator shut did their extraordinary imaginations kick in, leading them to wildly speculate about the background of the young man so thoroughly surrounded by gorgeous women.
Li Yundong felt a strange prickle from those gazes. He finally reached their floor, stepped out of the elevator, coughed lightly, and announced, "We're here."
The little vixens immediately poured out of the elevator like a tide, letting out a triumphant shout: "Long live!"
They were all young and beautiful, their voices crisp and bright; a single cry in that hallway immediately prompted neighbors to open their doors and peer out.
When a man poked his head out, he was so stunned that drool dripped three feet, and he was just about to step out, pretending to make small talk, when he was swiftly yanked back by the ear by his approaching wife.
Li Yundong shot a mock-angry glare at the lively little vixens and commanded, "Quiet down!"
Cao Yi also addressed the younger generation, "Everyone, please be quiet, don't embarrass the Sect Master."
Li Yundong nodded at Cao Yi, then stated, "I have something to say shortly, so don't cause a ruckus."
With that, he opened the door himself.
Pushing the door open, Li Yundong was immediately hit by a familiar aura. Before he could even step inside, the little fox Su Chan shrieked with joy and rushed in, rolling around on the sofa. With her leading the way, the other little vixens behind Li Yundong immediately began to stir restlessly.
Seeing the situation heading south, Li Yundong quickly coughed and glared at Su Chan.
The little girl first blinked, confused by Li Yundong's stare, but she quickly noticed her fellow disciples behind him, all looking at her with focused eyes. She instantly understood. She let out an "Oh," obediently climbed off the sofa, lowered her head, fidgeted with the corner of her robe, and shuffled step-by-step towards Li Yundong, pouting pitifully as she spoke, "Sect Master, I was too presumptuous. Please punish me."
Li Yundong glared at her: "Your punishment is sleeping in the living room tonight!"
Su Chan gasped, looked up at Li Yundong with pleading eyes, but seeing his look of firm resolve, she could only manage an "Oh," and lowered her head with a disappointed expression.
As if he hadn't noticed her reaction, Li Yundong kept a straight face and addressed the disciples of the Fox Zen Sect behind him, "Everyone come in."
Seeing that even Su Chan had been reprimanded, the little vixens immediately settled down, filing in with a rustle. The once spacious living room instantly became crowded.
Observing that everyone in the Fox Zen Sect, from seniors like Cao Yi to juniors like Su Chan, seemed stiff and unrestrained, Li Yundong smiled slightly and said, "Don't be so nervous, you look like you've walked into a den of thieves."
His comment made everyone laugh, and the tense atmosphere dissolved significantly. Li Yundong dragged over a few dining chairs. "Sit, everyone sit down. Su Chan, Zhou Qin, you and the other sisters can take the sofa or the carpet. Cao Yi and the two other martial uncles, please take the dining chairs."
Cao Yi laughed, "Sect Master, why be so polite? We can sit with the juniors."
Li Yundong firmly seated Cao Yi and the others in the chairs, saying, "No, there's a distinction between age and seniority; that must be made clear."
After everyone was seated, and seeing them all watching him expectantly, Li Yundong spoke, "Since I took over as the Sect Master of the Fox Zen Sect, our sect has been in constant turmoil and instability. I will examine myself first: I have been a poor Sect Master, utterly unqualified."
Saying this, he stood up and bowed deeply to apologize to the members of the Fox Zen Sect.
This startled everyone in the sect, who immediately rose to their feet. Cao Yi and the other martial uncles hastened to say, "Sect Master, you are too hard on yourself." "Sect Master, this is not your fault!" "Sect Master, without you, the Fox Zen Sect would have been wiped out."
Some of the juniors from the Fox Zen Sect also spoke up, "Sect Master, you treat us very well; we know. The former Sect Master Lian Shan wouldn't even let us descend the mountain. Not only did you let us come down, but you provided food and lodging for us—you've been too kind!"
Hearing this, the other little vixens chimed in, "Yes, yes! You even bought us pretty clothes to wear! The Sect Master is too good to us!"
Li Yundong found it both amusing and frustrating. He thought to himself: Good heavens, these are just a group of innocent and cheerful young girls who understand nothing of the world. If they met other men, those men wouldn't just provide food and lodging, they’d provide sleeping arrangements too!
Li Yundong coughed lightly and said, "Alright, alright, stop talking. Since I have brought you down the mountain, I am responsible for your sustenance and lodging. I will look for a place for you in a few days; for these next couple of days, you’ll have to make do and crowd into the rooms."
He then addressed the three martial uncles of the Fox Zen Sect—Cao Yi, Liu Yuehong, and Zhuang Yating. "The three martial uncles will take Su Chan's original room. Hers is the most spacious. The three of you can crowd in, how about that?"
Cao Yi, Liu Yuehong, and Zhuang Yating all smiled and replied, "No trouble at all, we will follow the Sect Master's instructions."
Li Yundong then turned to the remaining seven juniors of the Fox Zen Sect and said, "The seven of you can share the other two bedrooms, four per room. How does that sound?"
The little vixens of the Fox Zen Sect all nodded and chirped in unison, "We obey the Sect Master’s words!"
Though Li Yundong held no improper thoughts toward these beautiful little vixens, hearing so many exquisite voices speak that phrase in such a crisp manner did give him a secret thrill. Li Yundong nodded, then said to Su Chan and Zhou Qin, "The three of us will sleep outside the living room."
Su Chan couldn't help but let out another little gasp of disappointment. Zhou Qin, however, felt a stir in her heart; she knew Li Yundong was showing everyone in the sect that his relationship with Su Chan and herself was innocent.
Zhou Qin kept her expression neutral and said nothing, but Cao Yi and the others from the Fox Zen Sect immediately stood up, shaking their heads: "Absolutely not, definitely not!"
Li Yundong asked in confusion, "Why not?"
Cao Yi stated solemnly, "Where is the rule that allows a Sect Master to sleep in the living room while we take the bedrooms? Although the Fox Zen Sect is a minor school, we understand the concept of respect based on rank. The Sect Master is a person of high standing; how can he sleep in the living room? No, absolutely not!"
Liu Yuehong nodded in agreement, "Sixth Martial Sister is right. If the Sect Master sleeps in the living room, we would rather sleep outside altogether."
Zhuang Yating added, "That’s exactly the point!"
Seeing that their three martial uncles had spoken, the juniors of the Fox Zen Sect immediately joined the chorus, "That's right, that's right!"
Li Yundong grimaced, "Then what should we do?"
Cao Yi suggested, "It is proper for the Sect Master to have his own room, then the three of us share a room, Su Chan and Zhou Qin share another, and the juniors of the Fox Zen Sect can crowd into the living room. That would be acceptable."
Li Yundong shook his head, "How can that be right? Seven people crammed into the living room—that won't do at all!"
But Cao Yi stated firmly, "As cultivators, we don't have high demands for sleeping quarters. We can enter a state of meditation by sitting cross-legged, and the night will pass in an instant. Seven people in the living room is quite spacious and sufficient. Earlier, the Sect Master also mentioned distinguishing between age and seniority, so surely the Sect Master understands the principle of distinguishing between rank and seniority. Only this way can we clearly delineate the difference in status and age."
Li Yundong still shook his head, "No, that won't work. If everyone is crowding, how can I possibly have a room to myself?"
Su Chan looked at Li Yundong eagerly, wishing he would just say, I'll share a room with my girl, but she knew that while Li Yundong might say such things in private, he would never utter them in front of so many sect members.
As she was lost in thought, she heard Cao Yi say, "Sect Master, if you do not agree to this arrangement, then we dare not occupy the bedrooms. Otherwise, even our meditation would not be secure or peaceful."
The others in the Fox Zen Sect echoed, "Yes, Sect Master!"
Seeing them unite against him, Li Yundong sighed in exasperation and said, "Fine then, we'll do as you say. I will look for a place tomorrow. Please bear with it for one night."
The members of the Fox Zen Sect burst into relieved laughter, "No trouble, no trouble at all."
Li Yundong also laughed helplessly, "Alright then. I’ve said what I needed to say. However, if anyone needs to go out, you must go in groups and not wander off alone, and you must notify me first."
The members of the Fox Zen Sect all nodded in agreement.
Seeing Li Yundong finish speaking, Su Chan immediately jumped up, rushed to him, and asked with pleading eyes, "Yundong, does that mean I can’t go into your room anymore?"
Li Yundong was reluctant to show affection in front of the sect members. He deliberately put on a stern face and replied, "What are you talking about? As long as it’s not time to sleep, you can go anytime."
Su Chan pouted, clearly unhappy, thinking: But I want to go when it's time to sleep! You clearly know that, but you say that—how annoying!
However, her mind was quick and agile. Her eyes darted around, and she immediately thought of a solution: Why not use a clone technique? Hide her true body in Li Yundong’s room and leave her fake body in her own room?
The thought sparked joy, and Su Chan immediately became smug. She thought to herself: Oh, little girl, you are the cleverest! My cultivation hasn't advanced much with Master these days, but my skills in strategy and wit have skyrocketed!
With this thought, Su Chan’s expression instantly shifted from gloom to cheerfulness, and she said with a giggle, "Then I’ll go check your room to see if you've hidden any women in there!"
Li Yundong laughed and chided, "Hidden women? What kind of ghost women? With all of you here, why would I need to hide anyone else? Dealing with you all is more than enough for me!"
Li Yundong’s comment was quite ambiguous, and the younger disciples of the Fox Zen Sect all turned their faces away, giggling behind their hands.
Seeing their strange looks, Li Yundong finally realized his words sounded inappropriate. He coughed dryly and fell silent.
Su Chan playfully skipped to Li Yundong’s door, grasping the handle with one hand while turning back to grin at him, "I’m opening it!"
Li Yundong shot her an impatient glare and waved his hand, "Open it, then!"
Su Chan twisted the doorknob and pulled outward, but the pull triggered something unexpected: with a loud whoosh, a tide of countless small plastic packets surged out, instantly burying Su Chan completely.
Li Yundong was startled, both shocked and horrified, and immediately lunged forward, shouting, "Little girl, are you alright?"
