Li Yundong stared at the shambles of the stone chamber, his heart twisting in agony. Beside him, Su Chan couldn't help but sigh deeply. "What are we going to do now?"
Li Yundong let out a long breath. "It's all my fault for forgetting to close the door. Now we’ve brought disaster upon ourselves!"
As he spoke, he casually picked up a painting, the very Celestial King Sending Off His Son by Wu Daozi that he had admired earlier. The heads of the figures had been gnawed through by rats, leaving gruesome, unbearable holes.
Li Yundong managed a wry smile. "The historians and collectors of China will kill me... Wu Daozi's masterpiece, destroyed like this!"
Su Chan murmured cautiously from the side, "Maybe it was a fake?"
Li Yundong turned to her with a bitter smile. "You really know how to offer comfort. Sigh, don't even mention it. This place must have been the meticulously curated collection of the successive sect masters of the Fox Zen Sect. And look at it now—I've been the leader for less than two days, and I’ve completely wiped out these treasures! I might as well be honored with the title of the most prodigal sect leader in the history of the Fox Zen Sect!"
Su Chan had left the Fox Zen Sect in her youth. Although her sense of belonging to the sect was strong, it couldn't outweigh her feelings for Li Yundong. She offered a strained, awkward smile for a moment before saying, "Perhaps we should leave here first?"
Li Yundong also found the sight of the scattered broken antiques and damaged calligraphy jarring and upsetting. He shook his head. "Let's go, let's go. I'll think of another way. There really is no such thing as getting rich overnight in this world."
He walked to the entrance of the stone chamber, then looked back one last time. "If the others in the Fox Zen Sect find out about this, I'll be ousted immediately, won't I?"
Su Chan immediately declared loudly, "No they won't! You saved our sect, Senior Martial Aunt and the others won't do that!"
Li Yundong chuckled dryly. "You naive girl, what era is this? Come on, it's the age of economics; you need money to be the boss! No matter how strong you are, if you can't feed your subordinates, who will follow you? It's already a struggle for me to support you, little girl, let alone this whole crowd?"
Saying this, Li Yundong grinned and reached out to pinch the little girl's nose.
Su Chan yelped and sprang away, her eyes darting around in their sockets as if she were calculating something.
Li Yundong turned, smiling, and walked toward the outside of the cave. "What are you still thinking about? Let's go!"
But suddenly, an idea struck Su Chan. She quickly formed a mudra, and with a whoosh, a ball of fire erupted in her palm. She tossed it into the stone chamber, and with a loud boom, since the chamber was mostly filled with wooden shelves and paper-based art, it ignited instantly.
Hearing the noise, Li Yundong turned around in surprise. He saw the little girl standing at the entrance of the stone chamber, clapping her hands triumphantly, laughing loudly as if she had accomplished something magnificent.
Li Yundong stared blankly at the raging fire inside the chamber and stammered, "What are you doing?"
Su Chan turned back, her expression clearly seeking praise. "It's all burned now, so they won't know! This is called destroying the evidence!"
Li Yundong sucked in a sharp breath, his face a picture of collapse. "Are you crazier than I am? Don't you know some paintings can be restored? And some antiques can be repaired in parts? This is completely beyond saving!"
Su Chan's smile froze instantly. She quickly lowered her head, timidly glancing up at Li Yundong before swiftly dropping her gaze again. Her fingers nervously twisted the hem of her robe as she whispered weakly, "Did I do something wrong again..."
Li Yundong's expression was truly remarkable; he didn't know whether to laugh or cry. After a long moment, he forcibly swallowed, his voice raspy. "In the history of the Chinese antique world, the most devastating catastrophe has just occurred! And I am the principal offender, you are the accessory! No, wait—I only failed to close the door, but you started the fire. You are the principal offender, I am the accessory!"
The more righteously indignant Li Yundong sounded, the lower the little girl's head sank. Tears were threatening to fall as she mumbled weakly, "I was just trying to help you..."
Seeing her like that, Li Yundong couldn't help but laugh. He pulled the little girl into his arms, squeezed the flesh around her cheeks, and chuckled, "Alright, alright, I'm the principal offender, and you're the accessory. Happy now?"
Su Chan’s tears evaporated into a smile, and she looked up. "Master is the best to his little girl!"
Li Yundong immediately put on a serious face again, deliberately saying, "Don't think that being an accessory means you escape legal and moral retribution! An action like today's, and you will certainly be nailed to the pillar of shame in the history of Chinese antiques!"
Li Yundong’s tone was severe. The little girl's eyes went wide, and after a long pause, she asked weakly, "If
