Chen Wu watched Yingzi react to the morning sickness, feeling it was genuine in a way he hadn't experienced before. When others told him about being an unexpected father, there had been no strong emotional reaction at all.

That's how being young and unaccustomed to parenthood could be burdensome - still a child himself, his feelings for children weren't as intense. He could casually say "my wife is pregnant" without much emotion, but now seeing Cheng Ying so weak from vomiting made him certain this time it was real. He worried, wondering why she had only started showing symptoms now.

Cheng Ying felt regretful about choosing such a young man as her husband. It seemed like punishment for lacking consideration. Now wanting to change her mind came too late - hadn't she been acting foolishly in that moment of urgency?

How could marrying Chen Wu have ever felt like the happiest thing? Since her pregnancy, this sense of deep regret had followed her.

There was no choice but to face domestic life's trivialities and messiness. Though they'd lived similarly before, back then their relationship wasn't as intimate as now. Previously Cheng Ying decided things alone; now Chen Wu was constantly involved in decisions about the new family member.

Chen Wu sensed the change in dynamics - how his life with a wife had started to blend into something more harmonious than before. Especially since returning from City B, their days were chaotic despite his busy schedule. Cheng Ying couldn't imagine what their future would be like together twenty-four seven, living under one roof day after day.

How could they have ever thought growing up together meant no relationship troubles? She was clearly a fool back then.

Cheng Ying often believed she must have been feverish or had her thinking impaired by tofu when she made this decision. She'd been recently trying to convince the old lady that moving the tofu mill was affecting their mental clarity.

After hesitating over his wife's flat belly, Chen Wu abruptly left through the door in a rush. Cheng Ying thought - what a poor little father he would be if he didn't cherish children or comfort his expectant mother.

When Chen Wu returned with a gourd of frozen sour pears, he handed one to Cheng Ying saying "Eat quickly, this will stop your vomiting."

Cheng Ying stared at the dark black fruit. "These are out of season for frozen sour pears!"

"Whenever you want it, I can get it," Chen Wu replied.

She took a bite and found them surprisingly good. "Are you hoping I'll crave these things just to make me eat this ugly stuff?"

"I know only when you're comfortable will I feel at ease," he insisted. He explained about how his uncle's wife had been cured by frozen pears, which was why he'd always kept some in the freezer ready.

Though Chen Wu kept checking his papers and wasn't fully focused on Cheng Ying, she decided her initial judgment might need rethinking - perhaps this little father didn't have all bad qualities. He actually thought things through quite well.

Seeing piles of crumpled paper on his desk made Cheng Ying feel even more guilty - he was so busy earning money for the family. And part of his workload should be hers to handle. Yet he had silently taken over everything, which was already generous enough. One shouldn't take people's good qualities for granted just because they drive nice cars.

As a legitimate wife rather than an outsider woman, she should display proper dignity. With this realization that Chen Wu had been out all day long, the accumulated resentment Cheng Ying had been holding dissipated. She rose to get him water and said "You mustn't have eaten yet - better eat now," before suddenly retching into a nearby trash can.

Chen Wu abandoned his papers and sat straight up in alarm. "This doesn't make sense! My uncle was certain about the frozen pears curing morning sickness."

As he poured her water and rubbed her back, Cheng Ying weakly signaled him to ease up - too much pressure might actually dislodge the baby.

After regaining some strength, she tried reassuring Chen Wu who was clearly distressed: "Everyone reacts differently. These won't help me."

"But vomiting all day long is really uncomfortable," he said.

Cheng Ying felt genuinely comforted knowing he cared about her discomfort and decided to move outside so his work wouldn't be disturbed by her messes. After all, if these tasks weren't completed now, Chen Wu would stay up all night finishing them anyway.

Now that Uncle Gan had fully taken over the big restaurant business, Chen Wu was busy settling things in for himself.

"Where are you going? Wait!" he called out before rushing away again.

Cheng Ying hoped it wasn't more frozen pears. The sight alone made her queasy - she ate just one as a favor to him. Still resenting Cheng Ming for causing this morning sickness, she waited twenty minutes until feeling somewhat better when Chen Wu returned with another bowl.

She sniffed deeply at the aroma. "This smells really good."

"I just picked it from our backyard," he boasted, handing her some corn on the cob. "You should try it - my dad said that's what helped my mom during his pregnancy."

Though she felt her stomach finally calm down and wanted to avoid further stimulation, seeing Chen Wu's earnest expression made her feel guilty for not trying a bite.

After eating three stalks in one go (with Chen Wu watching eagerly), Cheng Ying ended up regurgitating every single piece back into the trash can.

Chen Wu stared at her in shock. "It really doesn't work? But it was fine this morning!" he said before leaving in another rush.

She thought how irresponsible - wasn't he abandoning care of his pregnant wife now?

Wanting to escape the sour smell and avoid even looking at the trash can, Cheng Ying stepped outside just as she heard Chen Wu shouting into a phone call from the courtyard. "You said it would work! She's puking like a fountain!"

After years of marriage, she rarely saw this side of his petulance.

Cheng Ying had to admit he'd matured significantly under her influence - but seeing him act so franticly at twenty-something was still quite new.

Turning back, Chen Wu caught sight of her outside. "You shouldn't be here! Wait while I get something else for you!"

Her face twitched with irritation as she grabbed his arm. "I'm not that sick! Just let me rest a bit."

"You mustn't delay," he persisted. "Shall I wake the baby?"

Cheng Ying rolled her eyes. How could he be so dense?

"Fine, walk with me." They strolled under the grapevine trellis as she inhaled deeply to soothe herself.

Feeling much better now, she ordered him indoors to clean up and air out the room before returning later.

"I can manage alone," she insisted when he offered to get Auntie Rong for company. "I'm at home - do you think I need your constant vigilance? Who hasn't had a child in their lifetime?"

Still, her heart wasn't as calm as it sounded. Better than letting Chen Wu endlessly fumble around. Sometimes Cheng Ying felt bitter - if only Grandma were sharp-minded enough to handle pregnancies herself! Why did she have to get old?

In the end, Chen Wu rushed out again and woke up poor Cheng Ming who was sitting in the courtyard wearing red sweatpants.

Cheng Yin found it awkward but shrugged it off. "Your outfit is trendy," she said as he glared at them through his blanket.

"I won't speak to either of you - I might hit you!" he growled. "It's just a pregnancy! My mom had us, your mom had two children and Auntie Nai four. None were like this! Tell your husband to stop panicking - does the entire world think only he gets to have sons? And what about my outfit? These are last year's special 'attracting romance' clothes. You've already had a baby - don't you need me to attract more?"
