Cheng Ying and Chi Wu called out in unison, "Uncle Feng!"

The newcomer was rather humorous, "Didn't bring a red envelope."

Cheng Ying let out a breath of relief. With a backer like this, even a real fight wouldn't be worrisome.

Chi Wu let out a massive sneeze. Cheng Ying's face darkened, watching the boss’s expression turn even uglier.

The boss felt like he was in for a raw deal; the money he collected felt suddenly hot in his hands. "Hurry inside and stay put. I'll have someone make some ginger soup for the young man."

The newcomer didn't go in, instead speaking to Fatty Sun, "There's a family matter; I just came from the hospital. Brother, please bear with me; otherwise, I couldn't leave the kids here overnight."

Fatty Sun scoffed, "What are you talking about? What kind of relationship do we have? By the way, is your family alright? Since you’ve shown your face, we can leave. You go take care of your business; don't let it slide."

The newcomer clearly had an urgent matter and couldn't stay a moment longer. "Boss, put it on my tab; we’ll settle up later." Then, turning to Fatty Sun, "Brother, I’m off first. I’ll treat you to a welcome feast at noon."

Fatty Sun replied, "If you have the time, that’s enough. Don't let my trivial business keep you busy. Buddies don't stand on ceremony."

Cheng Ying observed that their bond was indeed extraordinary; they didn't even need to be polite. However, since the man had patients, he still came to help, and it seemed improper not to acknowledge that. Cheng Ying realized that since Fatty Sun rushed over in such a panic, he surely wouldn't have brought anything with him, so Cheng Ying knew what to do.

After the newcomer left, the boss approached and tried to press money into Cheng Ying's hands.

Cheng Ying snorted coldly, "We can afford to pay for anything we break. Boss, next time, write down the prices clearly—how much for one breakage—to avoid detaining people again." With that, he led Chi Wu away with a determined stride.

The boss was nearly in tears, wondering what to do with the money.

Fatty Sun delivered the group of children to their teacher. Cheng Ying took Chi Wu to the hospital first for an injection, and then they had the driver take them to where their car was parked.

Chi Wu was thrilled to hear that Cheng Ying had abandoned the car. He thought about how important he must be in Yingzi’s heart. He even started to feel less annoyed with Sun Qingfang.

Fortunately, the security in the capital was decent. The kind of detaining people the boss tried was a rarity. Cheng Ying’s car was parked in a reasonably safe spot; it hadn't been stolen or towed by traffic police.

Cheng Ying got into the car and told Chi Wu to sleep in the back while he drove to find Fatty Sun.

Fatty Sun was squatting by the roadside, waiting for someone. From a distance, Cheng Ying couldn't help but smile; that posture was so characteristic.

Fatty Sun got into the car, sniffling, "Why is it so cold today?"

Cheng Ying tossed two items into the back. "For visiting the patient."

Fatty Sun, who had been fretting, stared at the items, dumbfounded. "Seriously?"

Chi Wu, annoyed at being woken up, said, "You recognized a godparent, and you don't even know what your godmother's family does?"

Fatty Sun replied, "They sell furniture."

Chi Wu countered, "They cultivate ginseng. That stuff is like radishes in your great-niece's hands."

Cheng Ying’s forehead twitched; that was quite a boast. He watched Fatty Sun nod and say, "Wild ones. They are presentable."

Fatty Sun looked at the items in his hands, thinking, I acknowledged them as family, and they're actually prominent people. "Homegrown ones are presentable too. Does that mean the pot we have at home is real?"

Cheng Ying retorted, "Looks like your judgment isn't that sharp. Is there a fake version of this?"

Fatty Sun shook his head in the back, marveling for a long time. What a capable person.

Cheng Ying felt it was best to go home today, lest his grandmother worry too much and get caught up in the anxiety. What was a small matter would only escalate if the family started worrying. So, he drove straight to the hospital.

In those days, not having a cell phone was truly inconvenient for communication. Fortunately, Fatty Sun had been mindful and managed to get the essential details from Brother Feng when they spoke. Even so, the three of them wandered the hospital corridors for quite a while before finding the right place.

Brother Feng seemed somewhat surprised that Fatty Sun had come to visit the patient. However, he was genuinely pleased; the man was thoughtful. When Fatty Sun presented the gift, Brother Feng was even more taken aback. Although he had made a trip out, it wasn't worth a stalk of ginseng. That gift was too significant. Did they have some request of him?

Cheng Ying and Wu Zi kept it simple: a large bag of honeysuckle. "It's from our own place; please don't look down on it."

Brother Feng, after politely greeting the group of unfamiliar guests, led them out. "Why wasn't it resolved cleanly?"

Fatty Sun knew he was mistaken; the man thought he was still seeking favors. "No, nothing like that. Brother, once you step in, is there anything that can't be handled? I just came to check on the old man. You’re busy, so we’ll head back. Let’s not stand on ceremony; whenever you come to my turf, I'll thank you properly."

Brother Feng frowned. Why did this ginseng feel a bit too hot to handle? It would have been better if they had asked for something. Fatty Sun was sharp as a tack; apart from occasionally acting goofy due to his hobbies, he was sensible the rest of the time. He repeated Cheng Ying’s words regarding the ginseng, "Don't be polite. It’s our own stuff; it's not worth much."

He spoke those words with a slight lack of conviction, but it wasn't his fault; Chi Wu had hyped it up that way. Brother Feng gritted his teeth. You’re exaggerating quite a bit with that statement. Are you here to show off? But he decided to keep the favor in mind for when they might need him later. "I won't be polite with you. It was truly inconvenient for me to come today; if it weren't for family matters, I wouldn't have let the young man suffer."

Fatty Sun said lightly, "It’s nothing. Youngsters need to learn a lesson."

This comment annoyed Chi Wu. Cheng Ying raised an eyebrow; wasn't it his son he was talking about? He sounded so nonchalant.

When the three of them emerged, Cheng Ying felt completely relieved. He didn't owe anyone a favor, which was better than anything else. Favors were hard to repay in those years.

Fatty Sun exclaimed, "In all these years, today is the first time I've felt so generous. I've never felt such satisfaction when giving a gift."

Cheng Ying shot back, "That’s because it wasn't yours to give, so you didn't feel the pinch, right?" He was still annoyed about what Fatty Sun had said about Chi Wu earlier.

Fatty Sun defended himself, "Don't blame me for that! You were the one who said our family produces this stuff."

Chi Wu interjected, "It's my family."

Fatty Sun glanced at the two unfortunate children. No one had ever been so quick to burn bridges.

Cheng Ying intervened, "Alright, let's go home. You sleep; you drive later. I haven't slept all night; I'm exhausted."

Fatty Sun quickly walked ahead and firmly planted himself in front of the driver's door. "I'll drive." Riding in Great-Niece’s car is courting death.

Cheng Ying scoffed, When it’s not courting death, you want me to be your chauffeur? Do you think you have the right? Then he turned and got into the back seat. The back seat was reserved for superiors.

Fatty Sun felt his assertion had been pointless. Chi Wu sat in the back with Cheng Ying; he also needed to catch up on sleep, and the injection made him drowsy.

Cheng Ying said, "First, let’s go buy Mother some roast ducks. Since we’re here, this is a must. Then we'll just go home; there’s nothing else we need to buy."

Fatty Sun looked at the bag of cash beside him. He mused that their spending standard was quite low. "I thought you were going to waste all that money here."

Cheng Ying replied, "Except for that restaurant boss, whom I asked to tear down his establishment, I basically never intended to spend any other money."

Fatty Sun drove silently. We are not in the same league of consumers. He realized that when he arrived, he had been mentally prepared to buy out the entire two-story building. Fatty Sun felt obsolete; had he ever been that domineering even at his most reckless? He glanced at the two people dozing in the back, leaning against each other, and felt a slight, inexplicable awkwardness. He couldn't quite pinpoint what felt wrong.

It wasn't until Fatty Sun had circled nearly half of the capital and bought ten ducks before getting back in the car that he finally realized what was amiss. He looked at Chi Wu in the back, who was holding his niece possessively, looking utterly content. Fatty Sun thought, That kid is plenty cunning; he’s clearly angling for the inside track. He raised an eyebrow and continued driving.

Chi Wu hadn't noticed Fatty Sun's gaze. He watched Yingzi sleep soundly, wrapping his arms around her to make her more comfortable—and, of course, because holding her was more comfortable for him too. Then the sedative took full effect, and he drifted into a deep sleep just like Cheng Ying. So, Chi Wu was completely unaware of how Fatty Sun was observing them. Besides, he wouldn't have minded if others knew.

Fatty Sun looked at the deeply sleeping Chi Wu in the back, thinking, How ambitious this kid is. No wonder he so firmly rejected that young girl who wanted to tag along when they were with Yingzi earlier. So, this was where his heart lay.

Fatty Sun dutifully served as the chauffeur for the two ancestors in the back. But he was tired too. Although he hadn't driven on the way there, he hadn't closed his eyes either, as enjoying Cheng Ying’s driving wasn't an everyday pleasure. Fatty Sun was suffering; anyone who went a whole day and night without sleep would be drained. As dusk began to settle, the two were still asleep. Aren't you two hungry? I've already finished one duck.

After nearly driving off the guardrail again, Fatty Sun stopped the car. "Hey, hey, wake up."

Chi Wu woke up first, glaring at Fatty Sun with small, protective eyes. "What?" He looked around at the desolate area. It wasn't that he mistrusted Fatty Sun’s character, but the man had a criminal record—was this a case of silencing a witness?

Fatty Sun was so incensed by Chi Wu's look, which resembled that of a bandit, that he felt like driving straight into a mountain to save himself the trouble. "Aren't you hungry?"

Chi Wu’s face darkened. He carefully adjusted Cheng Ying’s position to be more comfortable. "We'll wake up when we're hungry."

Fatty Sun couldn't be bothered with pleasantries. "But I’m sleepy. I can’t drive anymore."

Chi Wu was entirely focused on keeping Cheng Ying’s sleeping posture perfect, stuffing a coat beside her to ensure maximum comfort, and then moved to the front to drive. He felt Fatty Sun was too incompetent; even driving was too much for him.

As Fatty Sun started to move toward the back, Chi Wu stopped him. "Where are you going? Stay up front; there’s no room in the back, didn't you see?"

Fatty Sun looked coldly at Chi Wu. Just you wait, you little brat. I won't let you have your way so easily. My great-niece's goodwill isn't something you snatch up like that. Nevertheless, he followed Chi Wu's instruction and sat in the passenger seat. Arguing with a child was pointless.

Chi Wu drove with extreme caution. Fatty Sun felt relieved that the two kids had different driving styles. He drifted toward sleep. However, the good times didn't last long. Without someone to hold onto, sleeping in a car was never comfortable, and Cheng Ying woke up. Even though Chi Wu was driving carefully, Cheng Ying stirred.

Cheng Ying woke up saying, "I’m starving! Do you have anything to eat?"

Fatty Sun handed over a duck. Cheng Ying tore off a leg and took a bite. "Did you eat?"

Fatty Sun was about to say yes when he heard Chi Wu beside him say, "Not yet."
