As Liu Hui and Hu Xian'er arrived at the gates of Starry Sky Group, they found Wu Yuanjia and Huang Huali leading a large contingent of security personnel, locked in a standoff with several bald monks clad in saffron robes.
"Manager Wu, what is going on here?" Liu Hui asked.
"Boss, these monks haven't said a word. They just suddenly blocked the main entrance, preventing anyone from entering or leaving," Wu Yuanjia said, gesturing toward the monks.
Liu Hui observed the monks blocking the gate. He sensed no martial arts aura emanating from them; they appeared to be ordinary monks, standing silently at the entrance, chanting scriptures.
"Manager Wu, have your men drive them all out," Liu Hui instructed.
"Boss, absolutely not. Look, there are media reporters running over, some carrying cameras. If we use force against these monks, it will surely attract condemnation. After all, monks are always symbols of compassion," Hu Xian'er quickly advised.
Liu Hui pondered for a moment, then called out to the monks blocking the door: "Which monastery are you from, and why are you blocking our company's entrance?"
Upon hearing Liu Hui speak, the monks parted, creating a path. A tall monk stood at the rear, smiling faintly at Liu Hui. Beside him stood three other monks who were equally imposing.
"It’s Master Yongxiong. Master, what brings you here?" Liu Hui was momentarily stunned, then inquired immediately. He noticed that the three monks accompanying Yongxiong were incredibly skilled in martial arts, nearly on par with Yongxiong himself.
"Benefactor Liu, I mentioned this before. That Benefactor Huo from your company killed a disciple of our Shaolin Temple. He must come back with me to Shaolin to chant scriptures and repent. When the time is up, I will naturally let him return," Yongxiong said, pressing his palms together.
"Are the Shaolin Temple masters preparing to use force today?" Wu Yuanjia roared.
"This benefactor misunderstands. Our Shaolin Temple is a pure sanctuary of Buddhism, always detached from worldly conflict, advocating for virtue and good deeds. How could we resort to force? Today, we intend to adopt the ways of the Indians—a movement of non-violent non-cooperation—in hopes of achieving our objective," Yongxiong declared, his face radiating benevolence.
"May I ask how Master Yongxiong plans to enact this non-violent non-cooperation? I am quite curious," Liu Hui sneered. Yongxiong’s persistent demand, showing up directly at Starry Sky Group headquarters to demand a person, had indeed made him furious.
"It’s nothing much, really. Our monks simply feel that the entrance to your company is a prime location rich in Feng Shui and we plan to preach sutras, discuss Zen, and cultivate Buddhist Dharma right here. We hope your esteemed company can understand our sincere devotion to the Buddha and grant us this small request. The Hong Kong media have arrived; Benefactor Liu certainly won't strike out at us monks, will you?" Yongxiong stated.
The Hong Kong media reporters arrived at the scene. Seeing the standoff, they immediately aimed all their long lenses and cameras squarely at Liu Hui and Yongxiong.
Liu Hui turned to Wu Yuanjia and said, "Call the police immediately. Report that the normal working order of our company is being maliciously disrupted, and ask the police to escort these monks away."
Wu Yuanjia immediately picked up the phone and dialed the director of the newly established police station in Budi'ao. He briefly explained the situation. The director assured him they would dispatch officers immediately to resolve the matter.
The media reporters were thrilled. They had received an anonymous tip earlier, hinting that something interesting was about to unfold at Starry Sky Group headquarters, prompting their swift arrival. Now, the events were proving to be indeed fascinating.
Reporters began interviewing the monks blocking the entrance. The monks cooperated fully, detailing their origins to the journalists. The reporters then realized these monks had traveled thousands of miles from Shaolin Temple. They hadn't expected Shaolin monks to clash with Starry Sky Group. Shaolin Temple's renown arguably surpassed that of Starry Sky Group; this confrontation was front-page news. The reporters quickly relayed reports back to their offices, requesting reinforcements for on-site coverage.
Watching Wu Yuanjia call the police, Yongxiong's expression remained unchanged, as if he were completely unaware of the action. Liu Hui felt a pang of surprise, wondering what trick Yongxiong was planning.
The newly established police station was very close to Starry Sky Group, and soon several police cars arrived, stopping at the company entrance. More than a dozen officers emerged from the vehicles.
Wu Yuanjia stepped forward and addressed the leading officer: "Director Zhang, it is these monks who are blocking our company gate, preventing our work from proceeding normally."
Director Zhang glanced at the monks holding the entrance, frowned slightly, took a loudspeaker from an adjacent officer, and shouted: "I am Director Zhang Baozai of the Budi'ao Police Sub-bureau. We received a report that people are blocking the gate of Starry Sky Group, severely disrupting their work order. I sternly warn you now: leave this place immediately, or we will arrest all troublemakers and take you back to the station."
Upon hearing Director Zhang's words, the monks blocking the entrance subconsciously looked toward Yongxiong behind them. Yongxiong remained silent but nodded slightly. The monks immediately sat down at the entrance, ignoring the police warnings.
Director Zhang’s face darkened. He picked up the loudspeaker and began shouting again, but the monks paid no heed, sitting cross-legged on the ground, turning their prayer beads and chanting.
Director Zhang began sweating profusely. Dealing with a group of monks was tricky; any misstep during the process could spell ruin for his career, especially with so many media reporters present. He started calling his direct superior to report the situation, suspecting his superior would also need to report up the chain of command. The scene reached a temporary lull; none of the parties made any further move.
The only ones truly happy at the scene were the media reporters, who had never encountered such explosive news. At this point, reporters from a television station began broadcasting live, instantly making the entire city of Hong Kong aware of the events unfolding at Starry Sky Group’s headquarters.
"Boss, what should we do?" Wu Yuanjia asked, wiping sweat from his brow.
"Don't rush. Since we've called the police, let them handle it," Liu Hui said calmly.
Director Zhang received a call and got clear instructions. He used the loudspeaker again to issue a final warning to the blocking monks, ordering them to disperse immediately. The monks still ignored the warning. This time, Director Zhang waved his hand and shouted: "Take them all back."
The officers brought by Director Zhang immediately stepped forward and handcuffed all the monks. The monks offered no resistance, quietly submitting to being led toward the police vans. When the officers moved to take Yongxiong and his group away, Yongxiong exclaimed innocently: "Officers, this has nothing to do with us! We were just here to watch the excitement. See how far away we are from them? We didn't participate in their action at all."
The police paused, realizing that Yongxiong and the three monks were indeed standing quite far back, separated from the obstructing monks.
Director Zhang walked over, looked at Yongxiong, and said, "It's best not to cause trouble, or I won't hesitate to bring you to the station as well." Without waiting for Yongxiong's reply, he approached Wu Yuanjia, exchanged a few brief words, and signaled for his team to withdraw. Thus, several police cars carried away all the monks blocking the entrance, leaving only Yongxiong and the three martial arts masters by his side.
"Master Yongxiong, I don't know what game you are playing, but I warn you: this is not Shaolin Temple. This is our turf, and you best be careful," Liu Hui told Yongxiong.
"Benefactor Liu, you don't truly believe this matter is over, do you? No one has ever been able to shield someone that the Shaolin Temple demands. If you refuse to hand over Benefactor Huo, you will soon learn what we intend to do," Yongxiong stated coldly to Liu Hui.
"Then we shall have to see your methods," Liu Hui replied with equal coldness.
"My junior brothers, let's take a rest first. There will be more excitement here tonight," Yongxiong turned and walked away, his junior brothers following suit.
The media reporters, hearing that more excitement was expected in the evening, became instantly energized. They relayed the news immediately, preparing to stake out the location for further coverage.
"Boss, what exactly are those monks up to?" Hu Xian'er asked, completely bewildered.
Liu Hui briefly explained the conflict that had arisen between him and Yongxiong over his two disciples. Hu Xian'er's perception of the monks outside drastically shifted; she now found them unreasonable, seeing none of the expected compassion in their actions.
At this point, Ah Huo learned of the situation at the gate and rushed over. Standing before Liu Hui, he felt deeply ashamed, never expecting his actions to bring such trouble to the company. He said with contrition, "Boss, just hand me over to those monks. They won't do anything serious to me. Otherwise, if they repeat this tonight, it will cause significant negative publicity for our company's image."
Liu Hui smiled gently. "You are an employee of this company. Everything you did was in compliance with work arrangements. Therefore, no matter how much trouble you stir up, the company will resolve it for you. I will absolutely not hand you over to anyone. Do not carry this burden."
Liu Hui's words resonated deeply with the security personnel present. They instantly felt they had made the right choice in following their boss. At the very least, this leader took responsibility and would not sacrifice his own people. Involuntarily, their respect for Liu Hui deepened.
Liu Hui did not know what Yongxiong meant by "excitement tonight," but he wasn't worried. This was Hong Kong, an environment governed strictly by law. If Yongxiong chose a frontal assault, the police would naturally provide protection. If they opted for covert tactics, his own strength was more than sufficient to handle them easily. For now, he felt entirely confident, certain he could resolve the issue with these monks.
As eight o'clock in the evening approached, amid the eager anticipation of the media reporters, a new group of monks arrived on schedule. Yongxiong and his cohort were again positioned at the rear. The monks leading the procession were all unfamiliar faces, not the group arrested by the police at noon.
Liu Hui stood at the company gate. Seeing the new arrivals, he finally grasped Yongxiong's true intention.
Yongxiong was only calling a few monks at a time to block the door. Once the blocking monks were arrested by the police, he would call a new batch. This ensured he would always have enough manpower to blockade the entrance, regardless of how many were detained. Moreover, Yongxiong surely wouldn't allow the detained monks to remain in custody for long; he would find a way to bail them out. This created an endless supply of monks to cause disruption. Even if it caused no substantial damage, it was designed to wear Liu Hui down until he surrendered Ah Huo.
"Benefactor Liu, we have returned," Yongxiong sneered upon seeing Liu Hui. The new group of monks immediately sat down at the Starry Sky Group entrance to chant. Yongxiong remained at a distance, observing.
"Manager Wu, call the police to arrest them," Liu Hui commanded, then turned and walked away. With the media present, he couldn't personally engage in violence and could only rely on the police. He was also certain that the moment the police arrived, those monks would submit without resistance to being taken away.
"Boss, what do we do now?" Hu Xian'er asked worriedly.
"This monk has certainly devised a novel, albeit roguish, method. It’s certainly refreshing. I don't have a perfect countermeasure right now; I can only respond to each move as it comes," Liu Hui sighed. He wasn't afraid of physical force, as his own strength surpassed theirs. But this application of soft coercion had temporarily stumped him.
At noon and again at eight in the evening on the second and third days, Yongxiong and his monks appeared punctually at the Starry Sky Group gate. The obstructing monks would block the entrance, Wu Yuanjia would call the police, and the officers would escort the monks away. Director Zhang quietly informed Wu Yuanjia that he had received directives from above; consequently, the blocking monks were released after only two days of detention.
Liu Hui did not reappear before Yongxiong after the first day. The media, however, were ecstatic. Shaolin Temple VS Starry Sky Group—this unprecedented, sensational news caused their ratings and newspaper sales to skyrocket, bringing smiles to the faces of their media bosses.
This situation persisted until the evening of the fourth day. After the monks were taken away by the police, Zhou Tengyun suddenly appeared before Liu Hui.
"Third Brother, why are you back? How is the situation in Africa?" Liu Hui asked in surprise. Zhou Tengyun, unseen for half a year, now exuded a palpable aura of murderous intent; his every movement carried a hint of iron-blooded resolve, suggesting he had been tempered by warfare in Africa.
"Boss, things are going exceptionally well in Africa. We have successfully completed several major contracts, and our mercenary organization has made a name for itself. I returned only because I saw the news reports about the Shaolin monks causing trouble here, so I came back to help you drive them away," Zhou Tengyun stated concisely.
"Third Brother, the situation here is complex. These monks cannot be driven away by physical force alone. If force worked, I would have driven them off already," Liu Hui shook his head.
"If force won't work, then what can?" Zhou Tengyun asked.
"I am thinking," Liu Hui replied with a wry smile.
Looking at Zhou Tengyun, a thought suddenly sparked in Liu Hui’s mind. He said two words to Zhou Tengyun: "Black (Black Hero)."
Zhou Tengyun was momentarily taken aback, then shared a knowing smile with Liu Hui—a moment of perfect understanding between them. Hu Xian'er happened to enter just then and, seeing Liu Hui smiling, asked curiously, "Boss, what are you two laughing about? Can you tell me?"
At eight o'clock on the evening of the fifth day, Yongxiong once again led a group of monks who arrived right on time. The monks responsible for blocking the entrance were sitting cross-legged at the gate of Starry Sky Group. Wu Yuanjia and a group of security personnel stood at the entrance, facing off against the monks. Seeing them resume blocking the door, he prepared to call the police.
The media reporters, having passed the initial phase of excitement, were highly disappointed to see the same blocking routine tonight. The public had developed aesthetic fatigue toward monks blocking entrances. In the reporters' minds, the legendary masters of Shaolin Temple should have engaged in outright lawless resistance, driving away the police or even assaulting the Starry Sky Group headquarters to create real news.
"Look, what is that?" a sharp-eyed reporter suddenly shouted, pointing at a large tree.
The reporters immediately followed the direction he indicated, including Yongxiong and his junior brothers.
At the very top of that tree, a shadowy figure clad in black was bobbing up and down. Everyone instantly recognized the iconic attire: black clothing, a black round hat, a black eye patch covering the eyes, a massive sword resting on the shoulder, and a black cape billowing behind.
"Black Hero! It’s Black Hero! Everyone look, Black Hero has appeared!" a reporter yelled loudly.
The media reporters were overjoyed, instantly turning all their lenses toward Black Hero in the tree. Black Hero had only made a fleeting appearance once before and hadn't shown up since, much to the disappointment of Hong Kong citizens. His sudden reappearance tonight immediately captured all media attention.
Black Hero stood at the treetop. He glanced down at the monks below, then moved. He leaped down, instantly appearing before Yongxiong and his junior brothers.
Yongxiong’s face drained of color. Black Hero’s speed was terrifyingly fast; before he could react, the figure was right in front of him. Fortunately, Black Hero didn't attack immediately, or Yongxiong would have been injured in that instant.
"Does Benefactor Black Hero come to uphold justice? These Starry Sky Group people killed a disciple of our Shaolin Temple. We ask Benefactor Black Hero to dispense justice for us," Yongxiong, recognizing he was no match for Black Hero, used words to corner him, hoping to prevent disruption to his plan.
Black Hero remained silent. He brought his greatsword down to cleave the ground once, sending up a large cloud of dust. Yongxiong was momentarily stunned, then looked intently at the ground. As the dust settled, he broke out in a cold sweat. In a single strike, Black Hero had etched three large characters into the earth with his giant sword: "GET OUT NOW."
Yongxiong pressed his palms together and addressed Black Hero: "Benefactor Black Hero, this humble monk is from Shaolin Temple..." Seeing the turn of events, Yongxiong immediately tried to leverage his Shaolin identity, hoping Black Hero would retreat upon recognizing the name. However, before he could finish speaking, Black Hero’s long sword tilted, pointing toward him, emanating a dense killing intent that choked him.
"This benefactor skulks about in secret, unwilling to reveal his true face, yet his conduct is so arrogant. Does he look down upon our Shaolin Temple? Although Shaolin is a place of Buddha, we occasionally subdue demons and eliminate evil," one of Yongxiong's junior brothers shouted angrily. He had not directly experienced the sword energy and did not grasp Black Hero’s power, seeing only the sword pointed at Yongxiong.
"Junior Brother, no!" Yongxiong roared loudly. He watched as Black Hero's greatsword swung slightly and struck the speaking monk with the flat of the blade. The monk was sent flying backward, vomiting blood while still airborne. Then, with a heavy *thud*, he slammed into a large tree, tumbled several times on the ground, and lay still.
"Junior Brother!" The other two monks were horrified and jointly attacked Black Hero. Yongxiong was helpless; he knew he was no match for Black Hero, but since his two junior brothers had attacked, he had no choice but to engage Black Hero with his full strength.
Black Hero’s greatsword seemed weightless as, in an instant, he flicked it toward one monk's leg, instantly severing the tendon. The monk lost balance and fell. Black Hero’s sword tip rotated, and in the next moment, he stabbed three times in quick succession into the other monk’s leg and two arms, severing all the major tendons in his limbs. The monk lay on the ground, unable to move.
Black Hero’s speed was blinding; he disabled one monk’s four limbs in an instant. Yongxiong and the remaining monk hadn't even registered what had happened. Yongxiong felt the danger approaching. He bellowed, "Junior Brother, retreat quickly!" and rushed forward desperately, intending to shield Black Hero from striking again, allowing the other disciple to escape intact.
But Black Hero's movements were too swift. His greatsword flashed, leaving a white streak in the air, and in the next instant, he severed the tendons of the second monk’s limbs. The monk screamed and collapsed limply onto the ground.
"Black Hero, I'll fight you to the death!" Yongxiong, seeing his three junior brothers disabled in the blink of an eye, was overcome with grief and rage. He charged forward recklessly, completely abandoning defense, intending a mutual destruction with Black Hero.
However, Black Hero’s strength far surpassed Yongxiong's. His figure drew a straight line, leaving an afterimage where he stood. With a single twist, he was behind Yongxiong. The greatsword thrust forward, puncturing Yongxiong's thigh, instantly severing the tendons there. Yongxiong lost his balance and crashed to the ground. Black Hero showed no mercy, stabbing three more times, disabling all four of Yongxiong's limbs.
"Wow, Black Hero is incredible!" The media reporters filming on the sidelines were utterly captivated. Black Hero's power was immense; with just one clash, he had crippled all the supposed Shaolin masters—it was even more thrilling than a martial arts film. Although Shaolin Temple was famous, Black Hero was Hong Kong's champion, and these reporters instinctively sided with him.
Black Hero disabled Yong Xiong and the other three, then cast a cold glance at the monks blocking the entrance. He hoisted the massive sword onto his shoulder, strained, and leaped back up onto the large tree that had just appeared.
On that tree, Black Hero suddenly fixed his gaze on two distant spots. Two piercing rays flashed in his eyes. Seeing a reaction from the hidden parties, he took a powerful leap and vanished into the darkness.
