As Xie Fei and the others departed, Li Yundong turned to find Zhou Yu, who had come looking for trouble earlier, standing by, slack-jawed. Li Yundong let out a cold sneer, "Didn't you want to spar with me? Now's your chance?"
Having witnessed Li Yundong's prowess, Zhou Yu wasn't confident of a sure win. He forced himself to speak, "You just fought. Even if I won now, it wouldn't be a fair victory!"
Li Yundong laughed in annoyance, "So wishy-washy!" He turned his head to Su Chan and said, "Let's go. Damn it, running into lunatics all day!"
Su Chan agreed and was about to leave with Li Yundong when a voice shouted, "Li Yundong, wait up!"
Li Yundong turned to see Feng Na running toward him. The sight of this girl immediately gave him a massive headache. "Look here, great lady, what is it now?"
Though Feng Na had seen the impressive feats Li Yundong had just displayed, she wasn't intimidated. She grabbed Li Yundong's arm and shouted, as if catching a thief red-handed, "You said you didn't know Taekwondo! You were lying to me before!"
Li Yundong was momentarily speechless. He forced a bitter smile, "If I told you I only learned it yesterday, would you believe me?"
Feng Na countered, "If I told you I don't believe you, would you believe that?"
Li Yundong bowed and pleaded, "I beg you, just let me off!"
Feng Na also bowed in return, "I'm asking you nicely! For the sake of being your very first fan, just agree!"
Li Yundong was caught between laughter and tears, "Then I'll name you an idol, and I'll be your first fan. Just stop pestering me!"
Feng Na couldn't help but get angry, "Li Yundong, no matter what, you injured Zhao Yujian. You have the responsibility and the obligation to sort this out! Unless you're no longer part of this school, I won't let you off!"
Li Yundong threw his head back and laughed heartily, "Actually, I won't be part of this school very soon!"
Feng Na paused, "What do you mean? Are you transferring?"
Li Yundong chuckled, his tone carrying a sense of reckless abandon, "Someone wants to expel me!"
Feng Na fumed, "Who? Who is so brainless at a time like this! If they must expel someone, they should wait until after the exchange event!"
As soon as Feng Na finished speaking, she noticed Cheng Cheng clearing her throat beside her. Feng Na realized her slip of the tongue and managed a dry laugh toward the expressionless Li Yundong, "So, who exactly wants to expel you? I still have some influence in the Student Union, I can go plead your case!"
Li Yundong glanced at the growing crowd around them and lowered his voice, "Director Qian."
Feng Na let out an "Oh," understanding instantly, "I get it. I'll go talk to him for you! But let me make one thing clear: if I manage to talk sense into him, you have to fill in for me!"
Li Yundong considered it; the deal seemed worthwhile enough. He sighed, "But I really don't know how! What can I perform? I can't exactly demonstrate breaking a stone on my chest, can I?"
Zhou Yu, seizing an opening, sneered, "That’s the only kind of low-class act you could manage!"
Li Yundong was furious, his eyebrows shooting up, "You think you're high-class? Come on, let's spar!"
Feng Na snapped at Zhou Yu, "Get lost! This isn't your place to talk!"
Startled by Feng Na's shout, Zhou Yu retreated a step, muttering resentfully, "I'm sparing you because of her, or I'd teach this guy a lesson."
Li Yundong shot Zhou Yu a look, thinking fiercely, Just wait until I get a chance to beat you senseless!
Feng Na turned back to Li Yundong, "Hey, agree or not? Give me a straight answer, quickly!"
Li Yundong, growing tired of the persistence, relented, "Fine, if you can handle it for me, I agree!" With that, he pulled Su Chan along and walked away.
Feng Na beamed with delight and pressed him, "So, what act are you performing? Brick breaking? Board kicking? Or something else?"
Li Yundong waved his hand dismissively without looking back, "You decide!"
Seeing Li Yundong leave, Feng Na gave Cheng Cheng a triumphant snap of her fingers, "Done! I told you, nothing is impossible when I step in!"
Cheng Cheng wasn't nearly as cheerful. She kept signaling frantically to Feng Na, who followed her gaze and noticed the surrounding students were all staring at her with strange expressions.
Cheng Cheng sighed, "You're toast. Tonight, the thread about you chasing Li Yundong will be the hottest post on the campus forum. You won't be able to explain it away."
Feng Na was dumbfounded, then blushed with rage, "It's all that jerk's fault! Damn him, I'm furious!" Then she turned to Cheng Cheng, "By the way, you have the program registration form, right?"
Cheng Cheng pulled out her small handbag, "I do, why?"
Feng Na said through clenched teeth, "Write Li Yundong's name down!"
Cheng Cheng hesitated, "Aren't you afraid Director Qian won't approve?"
Feng Na snorted, "Is there anything I can't handle? Write it down now, and then turn in the form!"
Cheng Cheng acknowledged with an "Oh," "Then what act should I list?"
Feng Na huffed, "Didn't you hear him mention it before?"
Cheng Cheng looked utterly bewildered, "What did he say before?"
"Breaking a stone on his chest!" Feng Na said with a wicked grin, "Didn't he say it himself?"
Cheng Cheng stood frozen, stammering, "B-breaking a stone on his chest? What era is this, still performing that?"
Feng Na glared at her, "Are you writing it down or not?"
Helpless, Cheng Cheng made the entry. The thought of Li Yundong performing 'breaking a stone on his chest' at the Sino-Foreign University Exchange Conference made her shiver involuntarily.
Li Yundong, unaware of Feng Na's scheme, returned home with Su Chan. A while passed before the anger he'd built up slowly subsided.
The little fox, Su Chan, stayed quietly beside him, gazing fixedly at Li Yundong's face, monitoring his every mood, terrified that saying the wrong thing might provoke him again.
After a long moment, Su Chan saw that though Li Yundong's expression was still stern, the anger in his eyes had completely faded. She finally spoke, "Yundong, please don't be angry anymore."
Li Yundong glanced at her and snorted. He thought that if it weren't for this scatterbrained girl being so flighty all day, none of this would have happened.
Seeing Li Yundong remain silent, Su Chan shook his arm and pouted coquettishly, "Oh, don't be mad! In the future, I'll just stop talking altogether."
Li Yundong gave her a sidelong look, thinking, You could even manage that?
When Li Yundong still didn't speak, Su Chan puffed out her cheeks, her eyes darting around as if she'd thought of something. She tentatively offered, "Then, if I kiss you, you won't be angry anymore, okay?"
This single sentence caused the surging rage in Li Yundong to instantly dissipate like flowing water. His heart stirred deeply, but he was too embarrassed to respond immediately, merely grunting in assent.
Su Chan immediately puckered up and gave Li Yundong's cheek a quick peck, a fleeting butterfly kiss. The softness of her lips brushing his skin almost made Li Yundong's bones melt.
After the kiss, Su Chan held Li Yundong's hand and asked, "Are you still ignoring me? What are you thinking about?"
Li Yundong could no longer maintain his stern facade. He touched the cheek Su Chan had kissed and said helplessly, "I was thinking about which street corner would have the best business for begging."
Su Chan burst out laughing, clutching her stomach and collapsing onto the carpet, "You're so useless! Why are you thinking about such things?"
Li Yundong huffed, "You spendthrift girl, you have no idea how hard it is to manage a household. Come, let me do the math for you. Look, the TV broke before, that's five or six thousand for a new one, right? The chandelier needs replacing too, that's a few hundred more. The medical fees from the fight earlier cost hundreds, so that’s nearly seven thousand gone, correct? Although Zhao Yujian started the trouble, I bet I’ll be stuck covering the medical bills too, so who knows how much that will be..."
As he was calculating, he caught sight of Su Chan looking at him intently, her face etched with worry. The innocent, pitiful look in her bright, watery eyes nearly melted Li Yundong.
Su Chan whispered mournfully, "You're not going to leave me, are you?"
Her tone was so sorrowful and delicate it could move a statue.
Seeing Su Chan like this, Li Yundong instantly regretted his words. Am I crazy? Why am I bringing up accounts with such a little girl? Girls like this are meant to be cherished and loved. What kind of man calculates expenses with her?
Shouldn't a man withstand the storms and block all bitterness and hardship, leaving only sweetness and happiness for his woman?
With this thought, Li Yundong felt a surge of heroic confidence. He reached out and pinched Su Chan's delicate, small, yet perfectly straight nose, "Silly girl, how could I ever leave you!"
Su Chan startled, pulled her face away from his hand, and asked again, "Then, are you out of money?"
Li Yundong was determined not to bring up money with her again. He laughed heartily, "How could I? I have plenty of money, don't worry!"
His parents had provided him well when he was young, and he didn't have the habit of spending lavishly. He had saved up all that money, and now it amounted to about a hundred thousand. Although he had to pay out the large sum calculated earlier, it wasn't enough to leave him destitute.
Su Chan, being a little fairy who barely touched the mundane world, had no concept of the difficulty of earning money. Hearing Li Yundong say that, she believed him and relaxed, breaking into a smile, "You're mean, always trying to scare me!"
Seeing her radiant smile, Li Yundong felt a warmth spread through his heart; he felt capable of facing down anything. He intentionally put on a stern face and said, "Then, will you be obedient from now on?"
Su Chan nodded her head rapidly, like a chick pecking at grain, "Chan'er will definitely be obedient."
Seeing her compliant demeanor, Li Yundong’s heart was moved. He cleared his throat and stated formally, "Very well. Now, kiss me once, and I'll believe you!"
Su Chan giggled, "Didn't you just get one?"
Li Yundong couldn't help but grin shamelessly, "Just one more time, please!"
Su Chan jumped up, laughing, and ran toward the bedroom, slamming the door shut with a bang. "No way! Absolutely not!"
Li Yundong chased her to the door only to be met with a closed barrier. He hung his head in dejection, looking at the carpet in the living room and then at the locked bedroom door. He couldn't help but smile wryly, "Does this mean I'm destined to become a 'hall-level cadre' from now on?"
The little fox, Su Chan, leaned against the door, recalling Li Yundong's words, a wave of conflict washing over her. Oh no, he's starting again! How can this keep going? But why is it that every time I try to put on a firm face and keep him distant, I just can't manage it?
Su Chan wrestled with the thought for a while, growing increasingly restless. She grabbed her hair and crouched down, murmuring to herself, "What should I do? I hate this!"
Su Chan had no idea that she herself was a fox spirit. Foxes are creatures of supreme Yin in the world, and Li Yundong, having swallowed the Human Origin Golden Elixir, was the embodiment of supreme Yang. The mutual attraction between Yin and Yang is the fundamental nature of all things.
Even ordinary men and women living together would naturally develop feelings over time, let alone when one is pure Yin and the other pure Yang—the force pulling them together was several times stronger than for ordinary people.
Su Chan squatted on the ground, lost in thought, when she suddenly heard Li Yundong calling her name from the doorway.
Su Chan jumped, standing up quickly, and responded nervously, "What is it?"
Li Yundong stammered slightly from the doorway, "That fellow today... he didn't hurt you, did he?"
Su Chan snorted, "Just them? I could take a hundred of them without breaking a sweat. Don't worry!"
Li Yundong was silent for a moment, then said, "Su Chan, don't put yourself in danger next time, understand? If anything happens, I'm here."
Su Chan instinctively wanted to argue, but for some reason, the words caught in her throat, and she pulled them back. She felt a faint warmth in her heart, "Oh, I understand."
Li Yundong replied, "Good. Well, I'm going to take a nap now; I have classes this afternoon."
Su Chan stayed by the door, listening to the sound of Li Yundong's footsteps receding. She couldn't help but recall the look of furious resolve on Li Yundong's face when she had been held hostage previously.
The little fox’s conflicted heart slowly melted, and the smile on her face softened, becoming gentle. A strange light flickered in her bright eyes—a feeling even the little fox couldn't quite define.
But this feeling—it was sweet, warm, and caused a delightful fluttering in her heart.
