Xiao Hei was knocked away by the nuclear submarine, but it was unaware of what was happening inside and was somewhat disappointed, believing it couldn't harm the soldiers within. It circled the submarine a few times, looking for a way to teach it a lasting lesson.
"Damn it, fire torpedoes three and four immediately! I'm going to blow that son of a bitch sea serpent to hell!" The commander finally sobered up, climbing to his feet. His most powerful nuclear submarine had been attacked by a sea serpent, and he was instantly enraged, immediately ordering the torpedoes launched.
The sonar system quickly locked onto Xiao Hei, and two torpedoes were launched from tubes three and four, rocketing towards the creature. Liu Hui, controlling Xiao Hei's movements, spotted the two incoming torpedoes. A thought sparked in his mind. He adjusted his speed, swimming away from the submarine—the pace perfectly calibrated to keep the two torpedoes right behind him without losing them due to excessive speed.
"Sir, the sea serpent might have been injured in the initial impact. Its speed has significantly decreased, and our torpedoes are about to catch it," the sonar operator reported dutifully, though blood was already beginning to seep from his ears.
"Haha, blast that son of a bitch to pieces!" the commander roared with glee.
"Sir, the situation is deteriorating. The sea serpent has changed direction and is now charging toward us with both torpedoes!" The sonar operator’s voice echoed through the control room. The commander’s laughter abruptly died in his throat, and his face, along with those of his assistants, turned ashen white as they grasped a terrifying possibility.
Xiao Hei circled once with the two torpedoes in tow, then swiftly turned back toward the "Seawolf" attack submarine. The commander’s guess was correct: Liu Hui intended to kill with a borrowed knife, using the "Seawolf's" own launched torpedoes against it.
The sonar operator’s voice was frantic: "The sea serpent is approaching our hull with the torpedoes! It’s moving so fast! I was wrong, it wasn't injured at all—it was playing with us! Oh no, it’s charging us again, preparing to ram—wait, it suddenly veered away! God, those two torpedoes are right behind it! Mother, we are finished!"
Everyone inside the submarine instantly closed their eyes, preparing to meet their humiliating fate—sunk by their own weapons, a joke that would echo eternally across the globe.
"A miracle! Thank heavens, the identification friend or foe system on our torpedoes engaged! The torpedoes are moving away from us! Haha!" the sonar operator suddenly shrieked, his joy at escaping death overwhelming him into an unseemly cry.
The personnel in the command center staggered, their legs giving out, unable to stand steady, utterly drained. In that moment, they all felt the preciousness of life. What was truly humiliating was that they had momentarily forgotten the existence of the IFF system on their own torpedoes—a detail every single submarine officer and crew member should have known.
The two torpedoes bypassed the nuclear submarine, having lost sight of Xiao Hei ahead. They detonated nearby shortly after, the powerful shockwave sending everyone inside the submarine stumbling and falling to the deck once more.
Liu Hui brought Xiao Hei to a halt some distance away, observing the aftermath. He noticed that events had not unfolded as he had planned; those two torpedoes had not struck the submarine. Furthermore, because Xiao Hei's speed was so extreme, the torpedoes had already self-destructed and were no longer usable.
Though Xiao Hei was twenty-five meters long and immensely powerful, it was utterly incapable of damaging the pinnacle of human engineering—the Seawolf-class attack submarine.
Liu Hui was at a loss. "Consider yourselves lucky. I'll let you off the hook today," he sighed. Then, controlling Xiao Hei, he charged the submarine again, intending just one more impact before departing.
The nuclear submarine was simply too vast; Xiao Hei still had no way to truly damage it. However, before leaving, Liu Hui, in a fit of frustrated venting, wanted to strike the submarine one more time, much like a child in a fight who lands one last blow before fleeing.
The sonar operator screamed: "Giant sea serpent approaching at high speed again! Giant sea serpent approaching at high speed again! Speed reaching 240 kilometers per hour!"
The commander had a pounding headache; he never imagined that a mere sea serpent could reduce him to such a pathetic state. Out of options, he issued a command: "Turn ten degrees to port, full speed ahead, execute collision avoidance maneuvers!" The commander finally faced reality, daring not to fire another torpedo, opting instead to evade the serpent.
Xiao Hei's speed on this final charge was immense, reaching seventy meters per second. As the submarine executed its evasive turn, the section of the hull Xiao Hei had targeted—the underside—swung away. The serpent, not anticipating the sudden shift, couldn't adjust its trajectory in time and slammed directly into the sub's newly presented pump-jet propeller. The sheer force of Xiao Hei’s impact drove the propeller blades deep inside the submarine’s hull.
Xiao Hei was stunned by the massive collision, its head spinning and ears ringing violently. The rapidly spinning blades of the pump-jet, while not wounding it, caused excruciating pain throughout its body, and the impact flung it backward. It tumbled several times in the water before regaining its senses, instantly recognizing the danger. With a powerful flick of its tail, it quickly dove deep, abandoning the indestructible submarine.
Inside the submarine, all personnel lay sprawled on the deck, utterly disheveled. The damage control officer reported: "Reporting to the Commander: Our pump-jet propulsion system is completely destroyed; we have lost all power. The propeller blades were rammed into the stern structure by the sea serpent, causing a chain reaction collapse in the aft section. We are taking on heavy flooding now. All passageways to the stern have been sealed. The situation is critical; the submarine has lost balance and is listing. In two minutes, we will sink from excessive flooding."
The commander roared, incandescent with rage over the night's ordeal, but knew this was not the time for fury. As the captain, he was responsible for every soul aboard. He barked orders: "Surface immediately! Full ascent speed!"
The commander's adjutant quickly interjected: "Sir, we are in Hong Kong waters. We entered covertly. Surfacing like this will certainly alert them, and the consequences could be disastrous."
The commander let out a heavy sigh. "Continue ascent, prepare for rescue. Simultaneously, send an encrypted message to headquarters, reporting the situation accurately. I will personally bear full responsibility for today's events."
The adjutant immediately relayed the orders to the radio operator.
"Who will believe it? A simple mission, with the added task of capturing a giant sea serpent, ends with the US Navy’s most elite Seawolf-class attack submarine being disabled. It’s a monumental joke," the commander muttered, sinking into his command chair. He knew his naval career was over; the remainder of his life might well be spent in prison.
Liu Hui guided Xiao Hei, still somewhat dazed, away from the submarine. He had no idea his final strike had inflicted catastrophic damage, potentially sparking a new round of diplomatic tension between China and the United States.
Xiao Hei quickly swam to the dilapidated fishing boat. Liu Hui, carrying Chen Changsheng on his back, leaped onto Xiao Hei’s spine, then tossed several charges onto the wreck. Xiao Hei rapidly pulled away as the bombs detonated, shattering the boat’s structure, which rapidly disintegrated and sank. Illuminated by the burning wreckage behind him, Liu Hui stood upon Xiao Hei’s back like a sea deity, speeding toward the Star Group facility.
Xiao Hei docked near the shore. As soon as Liu Hui leaped onto the land, the creature rapidly submerged, vanishing into the sea. Liu Hui donned his magic mask, casually shifting his appearance until he materialized as a grim-faced middle-aged man. In this guise, he vaulted over the perimeter wall into the Star Group compound with a soft thud.
"Who goes there?" A searchlight immediately pinned Liu Hui. A squad of security personnel instantly surrounded him, aiming captured machine guns.
Liu Hui remained silent, simply setting Chen Changsheng down gently onto the ground.
"Everyone hold your fire! Turn off those lights immediately!" Wu Yuanjia shouted urgently. Seeing that the intruder hadn't attacked but had instead laid Chen Changsheng down, he remembered Liu Hui’s words and realized this must be the friend Liu Hui had mentioned.
The searchlights snapped off. Liu Hui leaped effortlessly from the high wall. As soon as he was outside, he snatched off the magic mask, reverting to his true appearance, and then scrambled back through the gaping hole in the wall, panting slightly.
"Boss!" Wu Yuanjia rushed forward.
"Did you bring the person back?" Liu Hui asked.
Wu Yuanjia pointed to Chen Changsheng on the ground. "He’s back, but your friend just left." The figure Liu Hui had impersonated had just departed right before Liu Hui himself ran back in—a maneuver so seamless no one would suspect the trickery involved.
"I know. Get Director Chen to the infirmary for emergency treatment immediately. Then, gather the bodies of those men in black who were killed and see if we can find any clues on them. You need to move fast; the gunfire and explosions tonight surely alerted the neighbors, and the police might be here any moment," Liu Hui instructed briefly.
"Understood, Boss, I’ll handle it now." Wu Yuanjia turned to leave.
"Manager Wu!" Liu Hui called out again.
"Yes, Boss? Any other orders?" Wu Yuanjia asked.
"Keep the men's mouths shut; no idle talk. And if you find any unbelievable traces at the scene, make sure to dispose of them immediately," Liu Hui stressed.
Wu Yuanjia nodded, understanding that his boss was covering for his mysterious friend. "Don't worry, Boss, I will arrange it." He then called over a security guard and instructed him to carry Chen Changsheng to the infirmary for a full medical examination by the dedicated doctor.
Liu Hui let out a breath, his tense muscles suddenly slackening. Fatigue immediately washed over him. The events of the night had been bizarre: first, a US squad attempting to seize someone on his territory, complete with bizarre giant figures like King Kong, followed by an impromptu battle with a nuclear submarine. Although the entire sequence was brief, resolving any single part of it had drained him immensely. While his nerves were taut, he hadn't noticed; now, with the release of tension, sheer exhaustion hit him—his mental energy was clearly overdrawn.
Liu Hui returned to the dormitory building, where security personnel were engaged in tense patrols and efforts to reassure the residents. The commotion tonight had terrified the families living in the dorms, requiring immediate soothing and guidance.
Back in his own apartment, after comforting his startled parents, Liu Hui received a call from Huang Hua-li. She reported that a large contingent of Hong Kong police had arrived outside the facility, led by Director Sun of the Hong Kong Police Department, asking what he should do.
Liu Hui paused. The arrival of the police wasn't surprising, but the personal appearance of the Police Department’s top official, Director Sun, was unexpected. He quickly told Huang Hua-li to stall Director Sun while he rushed downstairs.
When Liu Hui arrived at the main gate, dozens of police cars were parked there, their flashing lights turning the entrance into a blaze of daylight. Over a hundred officers stood before the cars, fully armed with riot shields, cautiously scanning their surroundings. Two police helicopters circled overhead.
Director Sun and a Senior Superintendent were speaking with Huang Hua-li.
"Director Sun, what brought you out personally tonight?" Liu Hui walked up and shook the Director’s hand.
"Gunfire and explosions all over your place tonight—loud enough to hear for kilometers. What did you expect me to do?" Director Sun retorted.
"But surely, you didn't need to come out here yourself? You could have sent your subordinates to handle it," Liu Hui scratched his head.
"You young man, the Hong Kong government considers you precious cargo. After we met a few days ago, the Chief Executive issued directives to ensure the absolute security of your company. We are currently adjusting police deployment and planning to establish a dedicated precinct here solely to protect you and deter any hostile interests. I happened to be meeting with Chief Superintendent Ma tonight when the alert came in about trouble at Star Group, and we rushed right over," Director Sun explained. He had already exchanged brief words with Huang Hua-li and seen the injury on her hand, understanding the extreme danger they had faced.
"We appreciate your trouble, Director Sun," Liu Hui nodded.
"It's our duty as police officers; we are obliged to do this."
"Director Sun, you must understand that our facility contains sensitive commercial secrets, so…" Liu Hui began hesitantly.
"Rest assured, the Chief Executive also stipulated that entry into your premises requires your explicit permission; we won't just wander in," Director Sun assured him. He then brought the Senior Superintendent standing nearby forward. "By the way, I haven't introduced you yet. This is Senior Superintendent Ma of the New Territories; this entire area falls under his jurisdiction."
"Good to meet you, Senior Superintendent Ma," Liu Hui shook his hand.
"Good to meet you, Boss Liu. Shall we begin processing the scene right away?" Senior Superintendent Ma seemed like a man of decisive action, speaking succinctly.
"This is Wu Yuanjia, in charge of our corporate security. This is his deputy, Huang Hua-li. Senior Superintendent Ma, perhaps you and Managers Wu and Huang can communicate to determine the best path for cooperation," Liu Hui pulled over Wu Yuanjia, who had just arrived, introducing him and Huang Hua-li to the two police leaders. When Wu Yuanjia arrived, he gave Liu Hui a specific look, easing Liu Hui’s mind.
"Senior Superintendent Ma, perhaps we should discuss how to proceed," Wu Yuanjia and Huang Hua-li immediately ushered Senior Superintendent Ma away to confer.
"Boss Liu, did you sustain any losses? What exactly happened here tonight?" Director Sun asked with genuine concern.
"Whether we sustained losses is still unclear. But these individuals were clad in black combat gear, heavily armed—they didn't look like ordinary thugs. Moreover, their assault came suddenly from the sea, and our security personnel were completely overwhelmed in the initial surprise. However, our guards are highly capable; after weathering the initial storm, they managed to wipe the attackers out completely," Liu Hui stated, mixing truth with fabrication.
"They launched the attack from the sea?" Director Sun questioned.
"Yes, our defenses elsewhere are quite robust, but we didn't anticipate an infiltration from the water, which allowed them to breach the compound," Liu Hui replied.
Director Sun’s expression darkened. "The situation sounds serious. They must have naval support waiting offshore. I need to contact the Chief Executive immediately and request the Garrison Command conduct a thorough sweep of Hong Kong waters." He pulled out his phone and stepped aside to call the Chief Executive.
If only they would send the Navy to sink that ‘Seawolf’ attack submarine hiding in the trench, make the Americans pay dearly, Liu Hui raged inwardly. His encounter tonight had left him furious, dragging his estimation of the US government to an all-time low. If he hadn't feared exposing his own secrets, he would have told Director Sun the Seawolf’s location right then.
"Boss Liu, the Chief Executive was greatly angered to hear about your trouble. He has already contacted the Garrison Command to request their assistance. Rest assured, once the Garrison deploys, no enemy, no matter how formidable, will be a concern," Director Sun returned after concluding his call, attempting to reassure Liu Hui.
"Director Sun, today's enemy was overwhelmingly powerful; our security staff barely held them off, and several were injured. Could you perhaps expedite the processing of the firearms permits for our security company?" Liu Hui asked casually while chatting.
"That shouldn't be a problem; I’ll look into it for you tomorrow," Director Sun replied.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Ma and Wu Yuanjia reached an agreement: the police would enter the compound area but were restricted to investigating and collecting evidence only within the zones where the exchange of fire occurred.
The Type 052C guided-missile destroyer belonging to the Garrison Command received orders and began sweeping Hong Kong waters. As they reached the trench where Liu Hui had battled the nuclear submarine, their radar registered a contact.
"Comrade Captain, we have a surface contact. Target bearing: 500 meters dead ahead. Suspected submarine, currently floating on the surface."
"Maintain observation. Determine the submarine’s identity and approach slowly."
"Comrade Captain, the opposing submarine appears disabled; it’s stationary. Upon spotting us, it has raised a white flag."
The Captain was utterly bewildered—a white flag upon first sight? What was happening?
"Comrade Captain, identity confirmed. The target is a US military Seawolf-class attack submarine."
"What?!" The Captain exclaimed, shocked. As the two vessels drew closer, the letters 'SEAWOLF' emblazoned on the hull were unmistakable.
"Report immediately to the military command!" The Captain instantly knew his fortune had arrived. The glory of capturing America's most advanced nuclear submarine would ensure a brilliant future.
