Alexander clicked the transaction, and the Spirit Root Tester materialized in his hand. He held the device curiously and asked, "Teacher, what is this thing?"

"This is a testing instrument. Place your hand on it first, then meditate on the connection between yourself and this tester." Liu Hui struck a meditative pose.

Alexander nodded, placing his hand on the Spirit Root Tester, and began to meditate on the link between himself and the device.

"Just as I suspected." Liu Hui sighed. The Spirit Root Tester remained utterly still; Alexander possessed no spiritual root and was incapable of cultivation. However, Liu Hui was still hesitant. "Alexander, try switching hands and testing again."

Alexander was an intelligent man. Catching the look on Liu Hui’s face, his heart plummeted. A knot of anxiety tightened in his chest. Though he didn't know what Liu Hui was testing, he understood clearly that he had failed to meet the teacher's expectations. He switched hands, but the tester still gave no response.

"Teacher, what do we do now?" Alexander looked at Liu Hui helplessly.

"Just return this thing to me for now," Liu Hui said with resignation.

Alexander silently handed the Spirit Root Tester back to Liu Hui, who put it away and stroked his chin thoughtfully. He mused: Alexander is brilliant when it comes to academics, but why does he lack any aptitude for martial arts whatsoever? That Golden Bell Shield I carelessly taught him earlier—the humans under his command actually managed to cultivate golden, sacred Dou Qi from it, yet Alexander himself cannot learn it. And in cultivation, he has no spiritual root, making the path of the Immortals impossible for him. Is Alexander merely a genius severely lopsided in his talents—capable of the pen but not the sword? It seems I need to plan carefully. I may have to see if Zerg can modify him to gain a spiritual root, allowing him to begin cultivation. Otherwise, I truly won't be able to suppress the masters under him who have cultivated sacred Dou Qi. If those subordinates refuse to obey Alexander’s orders, the situation will become gravely precarious.

"My dear Alexander, for now, organize your personnel to keep a close watch on that great canyon and be ready to clear out any remaining Slimes at a moment’s notice. I have some matters to attend to, and I will contact you later." Liu Hui deliberately avoided mentioning the results of the test, wishing to spare Alexander from discouragement.

"Teacher, this is your weapon." Alexander produced the Barret sniper rifle and placed it on the Planar Trade Device, ready to return it to Liu Hui, though a distinct reluctance flickered in his eyes.

"Alexander, this is a gift from your teacher; you don't need to return it." Liu Hui clearly saw Alexander's affection for the sniper rifle and refused the transaction. Furthermore, he placed twenty Ice Shards bullets and twenty Fireball bullets onto the device.

Alexander was overjoyed. He swiftly clicked the transaction, claiming the twenty Ice Shards and twenty Fireball bullets. He cradled the Barret sniper rifle with both hands, his face alight with smiles. This was, at this stage, his strongest military asset.

Liu Hui severed the transaction with Alexander and suddenly recalled that he had stored the corpses of Augustus and his two retainers in his storage space, which he hadn't properly examined yet. He immediately withdrew the bodies of Augustus and his guards from storage and laid them out on the floor for careful scrutiny.

Augustus's head had completely exploded; his features were now unrecognizable. However, the red clerical robe he wore was undamaged, seemingly untouched even by a speck of blood. A thought struck Liu Hui. He stripped the red robe from Augustus's body and held it up, examining it closely.

Liu Hui observed the garment for a long time, yet he could not discern what material the robe was made from. He only knew it was not gold, silver, or common cloth, and it felt extraordinarily light and comfortable to the touch.

"This robe is clearly no ordinary item; it must be the protective gear capable of emitting that white light."

Liu Hui then retrieved the white scepter and the golden crown from his storage space. Likewise, he could not identify what these items were or ascertain their specific functions. He set them aside for the moment. Continuing his examination of Augustus’s corpse, he discovered a rolled parchment beneath the body.

Liu Hui picked up the parchment with curiosity. It appeared incredibly ancient, its age impossible to guess. The cover bore four archaic English letters: "Light Magic," and below that, the author was listed as "Merlin." He opened the scroll. The title page introduced some of the mysteries of Light Magic, followed by detailed explanations on how to condense magical energy through meditation, along with specific applications and corresponding cultivation methods for Light Magic. The end of the scroll contained several illustrations depicting various symbols, accompanied by annotations.

Liu Hui was astonished. He had not expected this parchment scroll to be a book of magic, and authored by the most renowned magician of Medieval Europe, Merlin. While he hadn't studied Merlin’s life in depth, he knew Merlin was the most powerful sorcerer in Western history, his life layered with legend, inspiring countless admirers. He never imagined he would possess the mage's own literary work.

Liu Hui had already begun cultivation, and cultivation (Xiu Zhen) and magic were two distinct systems. This was evident from the annotations on the parchment's title page. Therefore, this magic scroll was useless to him for personal advancement, though it could serve as excellent material for broadening his horizons.

Liu Hui read the magic scroll carefully. Soon, however, he found something peculiar: the magic recorded by Merlin contained only one category—Light Magic—but this category was broken down into extreme detail, covering virtually everything. For instance, Beginner Light Magic included Light Orb, Light Heal, and Light Barrier; Intermediate Light Magic encompassed Prayer of Light and Halo; Advanced Light Magic featured Sacred Heaven, Aura of Radiance, Brilliant Colors, and God’s Condemnation; Ultimate Light Magic included Aegis and Aurora; Light-Element Forbidden Spell: Universal Salvation; and Light-Element Grand Forbidden Spell: Revelation of the Lord. These Light Magic spells were remarkably comprehensive, covering offensive, defensive, auxiliary, and restorative classes.

Liu Hui realized this Light Magic must be the cultivation method of the Vatican Church; otherwise, Augustus would not have carried it with him, and the spells Augustus used were undoubtedly Light Magic. Was Merlin perhaps a Light Magician of the Vatican? But he recalled no known entanglements between Merlin and the Church. How then did this treatise fall into the Church’s hands?

Liu Hui flipped further. The latter part of the scroll detailed the drawing of magic arrays such as the five-pointed star, the hexagram, and the dodecagram. The very end of the scroll featured several images of equipment, each with specific notes beside them.

A realization struck Liu Hui. Within those diagrams, he actually found the image of the golden crown Augustus had worn. He scrutinized the annotation nearby and discovered that the golden crown was called the "Crown of Sanctity." The ultimate skill of the "Crown of Sanctity" could summon an angel to descend and emit Holy Light, which could then bless an individual with a Holy Light augmentation, thereby increasing their combat power. The text explained that this "Crown of Sanctity" was the ultimate artifact of the Church, usually kept by the Pope.

Flipping on, Liu Hui found the description for the white scepter Augustus held among the subsequent images. The scepter was named the "Staff of Divine Punishment." The "Staff of Divine Punishment" could condense a Sword of Divine Punishment in the void, a blade of unparalleled sharpness and indestructibility. The text also noted that this "Staff of Divine Punishment" was typically held by the Grand Inquisitor of the Inquisition.

And Augustus's red robe was also recorded in the magic scroll. That robe was named the "Shield of Holy Light." The "Shield of Holy Light" possessed formidable defensive capabilities and could conceal the wearer’s aura—it was truly wondrous.

The magic scroll also depicted several other pieces of equipment that Liu Hui had never seen before. These items were described as equally miraculous, and according to the book, they were all under the control of the Church. Reading this, a cold sweat broke out on Liu Hui's body. Killing Augustus this time had been sheer luck. If Augustus had been fully equipped with these artifacts, even with Little Black's aid, Liu Hui doubted he could have escaped unscathed. However, all these items required deep reserves of magical power to activate; otherwise, their combat effectiveness could not be utilized.

Liu Hui closed the magic scroll. The treatise was useless to him, and the three artifacts of the Church were mere junk without magical infusion, unable to enhance Liu Hui’s strength in the slightest.

Liu Hui dared not display the three artifacts in front of outsiders, as doing so would only attract trouble and focus the Church's attention on him, bringing endless complications. These three items had instead become hot potatoes.

Liu Hui sighed and continued inspecting Augustus's corpse, but found nothing else of value. As for the two retainers, nothing of worth was recovered from them besides their two greatswords.

Liu Hui returned the bodies of Augustus and his two guards to his storage space. He sat back on the sofa, muttering, "Why did it have to be a book on magic? If it were a book on any other subject, it might have been helpful to me, but it’s specifically a book on magic…"

Suddenly, Liu Hui's eyes lit up. The magic recorded in the book—could Alexander, in his world of magic, actually use it? Alexander couldn't cultivate Dou Qi; could he, perhaps, cultivate this Light Magic?

The more Liu Hui considered it, the more excited he became, the more feasible it seemed. He reopened the Planar Trade Device and hailed Alexander, who connected almost instantly.

"Venerable Teacher, what can I do for you?" Alexander asked curiously. Liu Hui had just spoken with him; had something happened?

"Heh heh, my dear Alexander, here is the situation. You mentioned you couldn't cultivate the sacred Dou Qi I taught you last time, correct? I have found a new technique specifically for you this time, one even more potent than that sacred Dou Qi," Liu Hui chuckled.

"Venerable Teacher, is that true? I apologize; I am not doubting you, I am just too excited." Alexander was ecstatic.

"Heh heh. This technique is also called magic where we come from, but its full name is 'Light Magic.' It might be slightly different from the elemental magic used by the Elves in your world. I will transmit it to you now; you can try practicing it and see what effects you can achieve." Liu Hui produced the magic scroll and flipped it open to the first page.

"Thank you, Teacher, thank you so much!" Alexander immediately offered repeated thanks. He was well aware of the power of magic. His former Elven master, Phil, had been a magician, and even as a beginner, he was quite formidable. Now, Alexander had the opportunity to study magic and potentially grow stronger—how could he not be ecstatic?

"In that case, I shall impart this 'Light Magic' to you."

Liu Hui then began to explain the mysteries of magic to Alexander in detail, following the order presented in the magic scroll.

Liu Hui first lectured Alexander on Merlin’s thoughts regarding "Light Magic" and basic magical knowledge. Next came instructions on how to enhance personal magical reserves through meditation. Liu Hui demonstrated the various meditative postures to Alexander.

Alexander watched meticulously, quickly memorizing all the stances.

Liu Hui then proceeded to explain the cultivation and application of the various "Light Magic" skills; this section was already profoundly arcane. Finally, Liu Hui instructed on how to inscribe magic arrays, drawing them out in detail, which Alexander diligently noted down.

The contents of Merlin’s magic scroll were extremely comprehensive, packed with numerous knowledge points. It was completely different from the haphazard training method Liu Hui had used for the Golden Bell Shield previously, and the content was vastly more profound. Even Liu Hui himself struggled to grasp it fully, so he could only translate and convey the information exactly as recorded in the scroll. Alexander, having no prior exposure to magic, was completely bewildered, yet he understood the immense value of this learning opportunity. He strained to commit everything Liu Hui explained to memory, intending to study it thoroughly later.

It took Liu Hui two hours to finish explaining the entirety of the "Light Magic." By the time he reached the final page, he had already forgotten some of the fundamental magical knowledge covered earlier. When he asked Alexander how much he retained, Alexander shamefacedly admitted he had only managed to memorize about half. Liu Hui was once again humbled by Alexander’s superhuman memory.

Liu Hui started over, explaining the "Light Magic" scroll to Alexander once more. This second pass allowed Alexander to retain about ninety percent of the material. When Liu Hui finished the third full explanation, Alexander finally confirmed he had accurately memorized everything in the magic scroll. He then apologized for taking up Liu Hui's time, feeling ashamed that it took three sessions for him to fully recall it.

Liu Hui no longer cared about Alexander’s extraordinary memory; as long as he remembered it, that was sufficient. After six continuous hours of lecturing, the sky outside had turned bright; the company was beginning its workday—a new day had dawned.
