The people inside the warehouse were startled, looking up to see a lone, empty-handed policeman sneering at them. A loud burst of laughter erupted. "There's actually a leftover cop here! Why aren't you hiding and waiting for rescue? You've come out looking for death—are you tired of living?"
"Brothers, keep moving! This one's mine. Hahaha," one of the thugs drew a gleaming dagger and strode toward Liu Hui, still laughing. But his laughter cut off abruptly after a gunshot, and his body stiffened, tumbling backward onto the floor.
Everyone in the room froze. They saw a bloody hole oozing fresh blood on the thug's forehead. In Liu Hui's hand, a handgun had appeared from nowhere, its muzzle still faintly smoking.
Now inside the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department headquarters, Liu Hui dared not use his signature steel ball attack against the enemies. He had to settle for the police-issue firearm. Fortunately, his accuracy with the steel balls was extremely high, and switching to the handgun hadn't affected his shooting precision.
Seeing Liu Hui kill one of their men, the remaining thugs panicked, quickly raising their own guns to aim at him. The leader, a man named Massimo, was the quickest, snatching the machine gun from his back and unleashing a torrent of fire in Liu Hui's direction. Liu Hui smiled faintly, his figure gliding past like the wind. His handgun vanished suddenly, replaced by a razor-sharp dagger in his hand. He lunged into the throng of criminals; the bullets flying toward him all missed.
Liu Hui's form flickered constantly among the thugs. Each time he appeared, he needed only a slight wave of his hand; the keen dagger would lightly graze their throats. The men would clutch their necks, collapsing to the ground as large pools of blood began to seep out. In the span of a moment, Liu Hui had slit the throats of all of them. He eliminated half the thugs in an incredibly short time.
Massimo roared in fury. Ignoring the risk of hitting his own men, he sprayed a continuous stream of bullets at Liu Hui with the machine gun. But Liu Hui easily calculated the trajectory of Massimo's sweep, effortlessly dodging the storm of lead. The bullets intended for Liu Hui ended up felling a swath of Massimo's own crew.
Watching his numbers dwindle, Massimo finally calmed down. He dropped his gun, drew a sharp dagger from his waist, and lunged at Liu Hui. This time, Liu Hui didn't evade. He watched Massimo with an almost playful gaze, tinged with a hint of pity. Massimo suddenly felt a sense of dread, but before he could decipher what was wrong, a shot struck his forehead. His final vision was of another handgun appearing in Liu Hui's hand, its muzzle still emitting white smoke.
"What a waste of time!" Liu Hui sighed. With a flip, he leaped into the air, kicking one thug squarely in the neck, snapping his head clean off. Simultaneously, while still airborne, he fired a shot, putting a bullet through the head of the last remaining thug attempting to flee.
Landing softly, Liu Hui paused for a brief moment of thought before smashing the light tubes in the room. He worried that hidden cameras might have recorded him taking the drugs, which would cause immense problems. Besides, his eyes could see perfectly in the dark; light or shadow made little difference to him. Taking advantage of the sudden pitch blackness, he swiftly swept all the narcotics displayed in the evidence room into his Storage Space. Only when these items were secured in his personal dimension did he feel any sense of relief.
After securing all the drugs, Liu Hui noticed several crates remaining in the room. On a whim, he swept those items into his Storage Space as well. He then retrieved two large gasoline drums he had prepared earlier, poured all the contents onto the floor of the room, and tossed in a timed ignition device. Having finished his work, he rapidly exited the basement.
Before Liu Hui could return to the main lobby of the Police Department, he heard the sound of heavy gunfire erupting outside. He inwardly cursed, knowing that the police reinforcements had arrived and were now engaged in a firefight with the armed men guarding the perimeter. It seemed his plan to slip away unnoticed was about to fail.
When Liu Hui reached the lobby, he found the exchange of fire had already ceased. The men in black had been routed by the arriving backup. These reinforcements now surrounded the precinct and had sealed off all exits and entrances to the building. Looking out from the lobby, Liu Hui saw that the support team was actually wearing the uniforms of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JSDF).
"Damn it, even the military showed up. Slipping away quietly is going to be even harder now," Liu Hui thought glumly. However, the presence of the JSDF was understandable; the Imperial Palace was right next door, and the Ministry of Justice was across the street. It seemed the Japanese government wanted to resolve this incident quickly to avoid disturbing the important figures inside the Palace and the Ministry.
Liu Hui was just preparing to impersonate an officer and slip out, planning to change his identity later while nobody was looking, when a police officer suddenly burst out of the lobby and shouted loudly toward the outside, "Don't shoot! I'm a police officer!"
The JSDF soldiers outside yelled back, their guns leveled, "Halt! Hands on your head, get on the ground, and await our verification!"
The officer either hadn't heard due to extreme fright or for some other reason, but he didn't stop, continuing to run toward the door. Then came a single gunshot, and the officer's head exploded, falling to the ground.
With the officer's body lying there, a loudspeaker outside began broadcasting: "Listen up inside! You are surrounded. Drop your weapons immediately and surrender. Any resistance will be met with lethal force."
Having witnessed the fate of that officer firsthand, Liu Hui immediately abandoned the idea of blending in as police. He had to devise another means of escape. Earlier, when scouting the terrain, he had noted the Imperial Palace moat adjacent to the Police Department. If he could reach the roof, stay out of sight of the troops below, and use some equipment to jump into the moat, he might be able to escape by water.
Liu Hui re-entered the building. This time, he dared not use the elevator, forced to run to the top floor on foot. Fortunately, Liu Hui was brimming with energy; reaching the roof was no challenge for him. Just then, the ignition time he had set arrived. The device in the basement flared to life, quickly igniting the evidence room, and the flames began to spread upward.
As Liu Hui stepped onto the rooftop helipad, he heard a loud shout: "Hands on your head, get down!" Immediately, several small red dots appeared on his body. He spun around to see a helicopter hovering there, with over a dozen JSDF soldiers pointing their rifles at him.
"Don't shoot! I'm a police officer."
Seeing his uniform, the JSDF squad hesitated, gaining some measure of belief. One soldier immediately stepped forward to verify his identity.
Liu Hui suddenly struck, grabbing the unlucky man who had delivered himself to him and shoving him forward as a shield, crouching behind the human barrier. The opposing JSDF members were well-trained and immediately opened fire on Liu Hui's exposed thigh. Liu Hui clearly understood the situation, simply pivoting the hostage, causing the bullets to strike the man instead, who screamed out in agony.
"Put your guns down quickly, or I'll kill him!" Liu Hui roared.
"Don't be impulsive! We can talk about this," a man who looked like a squad leader called out.
"I'm not impulsive. You drop your guns first," Liu Hui said, concealed behind the hostage.
"Alright, alright. We'll count to three, and then we'll put our guns down and let you go. But you must not harm the hostage," the leader replied.
"Fine!" Liu Hui shouted, "Now! Do it!"
Liu Hui instantly sensed something was wrong. Just as he prepared to pull the hostage in front of him, he suddenly realized his body was paralyzed. Shocked, he struggled violently, and his body snapped back to normal. One of the JSDF soldiers opposite him suddenly spat blood and collapsed.
Liu Hui erupted in fury. He shoved the unfortunate hostage aside and produced a handgun in each hand. The JSDF soldiers snapped out of their stunned shock following their failure to kill the intruder and immediately opened fire on Liu Hui. However, their bullets stopped a mere centimeter from his body, blocked by a sudden red glow, failing to make contact.
Liu Hui let out a sinister grin and began firing his dual pistols. With every shot he took, another JSDF soldier fell, each precisely shot in the center of the forehead. The leader was aghast and quickly ordered his men to retreat alternately toward the helicopter.
The helicopter immediately started up and began a slow ascent. Liu Hui emptied both guns, but unfortunately, handgun rounds could not penetrate the chopper's fuselage. He wasn't worried, though. He reached directly into his Storage Space and pulled out the Barrett sniper rifle, loading a round engraved with the Ice Frost Array, and aimed at the rapidly retreating helicopter.
Liu Hui squeezed the Barrett's trigger. The bullet shot out of the barrel toward the helicopter, already over two hundred meters away. Liu Hui felt supremely confident; he had struck the target accurately while it was moving fast.
The ice-infused bullet struck the helicopter. The Ice Frost Array engraved on the warhead immediately activated. The array's balance was disrupted, releasing a massive surge of ice-attribute True Essence that enveloped the entire aircraft.
A thick layer of ice rapidly coated the helicopter's surface, instantly freezing everyone inside into blocks of ice. The engine quickly seized under the cold assault, followed by the propellers stopping. The helicopter traced a sudden parabolic arc and crashed onto the open ground behind the JSDF troops surrounding the police station, shattering into pieces—even the steel broke into fragments scattered among the ice shards.
Liu Hui witnessed the terrifying power of the Ice Frost Array and paused. A single bullet achieved an effect comparable to a missile? In terms of sheer destructive force, it was no less potent. It seemed that although that old scoundrel Xiaoyaozi was greedy, the quality of his merchandise was undeniable—this power was truly formidable.
The JSDF soldiers on the ground were also stunned by the way the helicopter had disintegrated. They had no idea what kind of attack had turned the aircraft into ice before it smashed into pieces on the ground.
Liu Hui was preparing to put away his rifle and jump from the roof into the moat when several gunshots rang out from behind him. As usual, the bullets were stopped by the Radiance Armor, leaving Liu Hui completely unharmed.
Liu Hui turned to see the unlucky man he had captured. Taking advantage of Liu Hui's momentary lapse in attention, the man had fired several shots at him. However, the shooter was visibly stunned by the mysterious red light, unable to comprehend the phenomenon.
"It seems I can't even spare your life," Liu Hui sighed. With a slight lift of his hand, a handgun materialized, and with one precise shot, it struck the man between the eyes.
Having dealt with the last JSDF member, Liu Hui was about to retrieve his specialized cloak to initiate his escape plan when a massive roar echoed from above. He looked up to see three armed helicopters appearing, flying in a triangular formation toward his position.
While Liu Hui hesitated on how to respond, one of the armed helicopters opened fire. The long muzzle flashes of the cannon were starkly visible against the night sky. Alarmed, Liu Hui swiftly retreated back inside the building. A massive explosion sounded behind him, the shockwave throwing him over twice, landing him in a heap, covered in dust and grime.
Liu Hui was furious. "Since you won't let me run, then I'll play along and make this interesting!" He found a position between floors, pulled out the Barrett sniper rifle again, and loaded a full magazine with Ice Frost Array bullets. He carefully extended the muzzle out the window, aimed at one of the helicopters, and pulled the trigger.
The bullet struck the armed helicopter accurately. The aircraft hovering in the air was suddenly encased in a thick layer of ice, its rotors seizing, and it plunged straight down onto the JSDF troops below, shattering into a pile of icy debris. Because there was no secondary explosion, none of the soldiers were killed, though a few unlucky men were injured by flying ice fragments.
Seeing one armed helicopter fall inexplicably, the other two immediately increased their distance from the building, wary of further attacks from the presumed terrorist inside.
Liu Hui shifted his aim, locking the crosshairs onto another armed helicopter. He fired again. That aircraft was also instantly frozen and sent crashing to the ground. This time, the JSDF personnel were less fortunate; seven or eight soldiers were crushed by the falling wreckage.
The last helicopter, terrified by the unknown power, quickly gained altitude and attempted to flee into the distance. Liu Hui's temper flared; he would not allow his prey to escape so easily. He stepped onto the roof and fired one more shot, bringing down the final armed helicopter.
With all three helicopters destroyed, Liu Hui was overjoyed. He had just tucked the rifle into his Storage Space when a whistling sound filled the air. He sensed danger, but before he could react, a missile exploded just behind him. The massive blast wave pushed him away, slamming him violently into a wall...
Liu Hui's body flickered with red light; the Radiance Armor was still functioning, and he was unharmed. Liu Hui spat out the dirt, climbed out of the man-shaped indentation he had made in the wall, and stared at the massive crater the explosion had blown in the rooftop, cursing, "***, can't I even escape? They resort to missiles here? Is this still your police headquarters?"
The sound of aircraft whined overhead. A reconnaissance fighter jet flew in from the distance; the missile must have come from that plane, now returning to assess the damage.
Liu Hui concealed himself in a hidden spot, intending to lock onto the old fighter jet with the Barrett, but the plane was moving far too fast for him to acquire a stable lock.
The jet circled back, hovering above the Metropolitan Police Department. Liu Hui gritted his teeth and fired a shot, but the bullet went wide, missing the fighter. Unwilling to quit, he waited for the jet to pass again and fired another round. This time, the bullet was lucky enough to graze the jet's right wing. The array's power activated instantly, freezing half the aircraft into ice. The jet wobbled wildly, completely out of control for the pilot inside.
Liu Hui was ecstatic. He fired a third shot, which struck the fighter dead center. The aircraft instantly turned into a block of ice, tracing a parabola toward the Police Department building before impacting with a loud CRASH, punching a huge hole right through the middle of the structure.
"Heh heh, satisfied now!" Liu Hui made a triumphant gesture, then nervously glanced at the sky. The incessant aircraft had terrified him, but this time, the sky remained clear of planes.
Liu Hui took out his specialized cloak, draped it over his shoulders, and was about to jump when, from below, several giant searchlights were suddenly activated, sweeping across the rooftop and illuminating the area as if it were midday. Simultaneously, a cheer rose from below, followed by a deep rumbling sound.
Liu Hui cautiously peeked over the edge. A long line of more than ten tanks had rolled into position on the road below.
"Damn your sister, they're serious now," Liu Hui muttered, utterly defeated. His plan for stealthy acquisition had completely backfired. A continuous stream of unexpected events had cornered him here.
"Since you want to make a scene, I'll help you make it bigger!" Liu Hui's temperament suddenly flared. He ejected the magazine from his rifle, removed all the Ice Frost bullets, and replaced them with Fire Blast rounds. He aimed at a searchlight and fired. The Fire Blast Array on the warhead activated instantly, unleashing wildly explosive fire-attribute True Essence, resulting in a violent detonation that created a mushroom cloud right there, blasting the nearby JSDF soldiers high into the air.
Witnessing the destructive power of the Fire Blast Array energized Liu Hui. He fired several more shots, systematically destroying all the searchlights, causing continuous, violent explosions below. Without the illumination, the rooftop plunged back into darkness. Liu Hui decided to press his advantage, aiming directly at the tanks below and firing.
The Fire Blast rounds were indeed terrifyingly effective. A single bullet caused a tank to erupt in a fierce explosion, leaving nothing behind but scrap metal dissolving into the surroundings, as if the tank had never existed.
Liu Hui emptied his rifle, reloaded another magazine, and detonated all the tanks below. The JSDF troops scattered, trying to escape the blasts. They had no idea what kind of high-powered weapon the "terrorist" was using that could so easily obliterate their armor. As Liu Hui prepared to stow his rifle amidst the chaos below, he felt a sudden jolt of danger. He ducked low just as a sniper round zipped past his scalp.
"Goddamnit, there's a sniper in the building opposite! How could I forget that?" Liu Hui suddenly realized a sniper was aiming at him from the opposing skyscraper. "But that spot you're hiding in isn't safe anymore, hehe!"
The opposing sniper was concealed behind a low wall on his rooftop. Under normal circumstances, Liu Hui would have been unable to target him, as the bullets couldn't penetrate that wall. But now, armed with Fire Blast rounds, that wall was child's play.
Liu Hui aimed the Barrett at the sniper's hiding spot and fired a Fire Blast round. The wall in that area instantly exploded violently. A human-shaped object was propelled skyward by the force of the blast.
Liu Hui scanned the opposite side again. The sense of danger was gone. He tucked the rifle into his Storage Space, took one last look at the sky—no planes, no incoming missiles. His tension eased, and he leaped downward. Utilizing the wind, he swiftly glided above the moat and, with a nimble somersault, plunged into the water.
Once in the moat, Liu Hui immediately dove to the bottom. He retrieved an oxygen tank from his Storage Space, fitted the respirator over his head, grabbed an underwater propulsion unit, turned it on, and began swimming forward along the riverbed.
Liu Hui couldn't help but remark on Japan's excellent environmental protection efforts; the moat water was remarkably clear and clean. Swimming along the bottom felt incredibly comfortable. Unlike the rivers in some domestic cities, where people wouldn't dare swim due to severe pollution, this water supported life.
The haul tonight looked excellent. The five tons of drugs were secured. If all of it was traded to Zegg for vision-correcting medicine, it could be exchanged for fifty million doses, valued at a staggering five hundred billion US dollars. The thought of that huge figure made Liu Hui's heart pound uncontrollably.
Liu Hui swam along the moat for some time until he reached a secluded area, far from the police station. He stored his diving gear and the propulsion unit back in his Storage Space, climbed onto the bank, and changed into dry clothes. When he looked ahead, his heart leaped, and he almost cried out loud.
Before the bridge, an arched span, stood a young woman who had appeared there at some unknown moment, gazing down at Liu Hui. Had it been anyone else watching him, he would not have lost his composure so thoroughly, for the woman staring back was none other than Liang Jingyue, the very person he had been searching for in vain.
