Er Haiguang was taking a flight abroad for the very first time, heading for Tokyo, Japan. The plane wasn't full; at least half the seats were empty, and the one beside him remained vacant.
He took a look around and noticed quite a few beautiful women on the flight, but when he overheard them conversing, they were all speaking Japanese. He couldn't tell if they were Japanese natives or Chinese tourists visiting Japan. He had harbored a slight fantasy earlier, imagining meeting a captivating beauty on the plane, striking up a conversation, and perhaps leading to a romantic encounter. Unfortunately, these remained just fantasies. In reality, everyone on the plane stayed in their seats—no one tried to strike up a conversation, no one got up to walk around, and there was certainly no romance.
He drifted off to sleep amidst his musings. When he awoke, the plane had already arrived in Tokyo, Japan. It circled once before aligning with the runway for descent. Below was Japan's most famous airport, Narita.
Liu Hui slung his backpack over his shoulder and moved toward the exit with the flow of people. At the immigration counter, the officer glanced at him, then at his passport photo, before stamping it to grant him entry. He exited the airport, hailed a taxi, and stated proficiently in Japanese, "Please take me to the Ginza department store."
The Japanese driver nodded and bowed repeatedly as he drove Liu Hui toward Ginza. Liu Hui carefully observed the streets of Japan, noting how exceptionally clean they were and how efficiently the traffic flowed; he hadn't encountered any traffic jams. He couldn't help but wonder—without city management officials, how did Japan maintain such impeccable urban aesthetics?
"Sir, we have arrived at the Ginza department store. That will be eight thousand one hundred Yen, please," the driver said politely as he pulled the taxi to a stop in front of the shopping center.
Liu Hui handed over a ten-thousand Yen note and said, "Keep the change."
The taxi driver quickly expressed his gratitude.
Liu Hui stepped out of the cab and entered the Ginza Mall. He had often heard back home about how high-end and luxurious the Ginza shopping district was. Seeing it firsthand, it certainly lived up to the reputation. However, Liu Hui had pressing matters to attend to; this was not the time for sightseeing. He slipped into a stall in the restroom, swiftly transforming himself into a very ordinary middle-aged Japanese man. He placed the backpack he had been carrying into his storage space, retrieved a briefcase from there, and walked out of the restroom with a swagger.
Liu Hui left the Ginza Mall and hailed another taxi, stating, "Take me to Sakurada Gate."
The taxi quickly delivered Liu Hui to Sakurada Gate. Liu Hui paid the fare according to the meter, then stepped out. He immediately spotted the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department headquarters, a building he recognized from numerous Japanese television dramas.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department looked incredibly imposing. It was rumored that helicopters could land and take off from the roof. It served as the headquarters for the Tokyo police, located near the Imperial Palace and the Ministry of Justice.
Liu Hui disguised himself as an ordinary tourist, trailing a tour group. He "visited" the nearby Imperial Palace, then pretended to look around the Ministry of Justice building, before finally casing the area around the Police Headquarters. He committed the entire layout to memory.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department had held a press conference previously, announcing that the five tons of seized narcotics would be destroyed in three days. Calculating based on that timeline, they would likely destroy the drugs tomorrow. Tonight, therefore, would be Liu Hui's last chance. Based on his assumptions, since this was the police headquarters, the confiscated drugs must surely be stored there. Thus, he decided to execute his plan to steal the narcotics tonight.
After memorizing the surrounding terrain, Liu Hui walked away from the headquarters. He walked two blocks before hailing another taxi back to the Ginza Mall. Inside the restroom, he reverted to his original appearance as Ah Shui, taking his backpack out and putting it on.
Liu Hui began browsing the mall. He had to admit, the service in Japanese department stores was exceptional, and the product quality was superb. He merely expressed interest in a few items and asked a couple of questions, and the staff immediately launched into enthusiastic explanations. In the end, Liu Hui succumbed to the smiles and warmth of the staff and bought several items he didn't really need.
After finishing his shopping, he sampled some Japanese delicacies at a local food stall. Finally, he visited an audiovisual specialty store and purchased some genuine DVD imports unavailable in his home country.
Liu Hui spent the entire afternoon this way, had dinner, and noticed it was still early enough to catch a movie at a Japanese cinema. After the film, he found a love hotel down a narrow side alley and rented a room to rest.
Japanese love hotels were inexpensive, making them ideal spots for female students engaging in compensated dating. However, the soundproofing wasn't great, and with Liu Hui's acute hearing, he could discern the sounds of intimacy coming from every room, making him muse over the sexual vitality of the Japanese people.
Liu Hui tuned out the affairs of the couples and turned on the television to the Tokyo News channel. The female anchor was reporting on a mass gang brawl that had just occurred in Shibuya, resulting in multiple injuries. Police had dispatched numerous units to apprehend the brawlers and transport the wounded to the hospital.
Liu Hui was quite surprised. As far as he knew, public safety in Japan was generally excellent. How could such a public fight occur? Had he been misled by exaggerated propaganda?
Just then, the anchor received breaking news. She continued, "We have just received the latest update: on a five-story building in Akihabara, a man and a woman are currently threatening to jump. Police negotiators have been dispatched to the scene." The screen immediately switched to the live footage: a couple embracing on a balcony, poised to leap. Behind them, police negotiators appeared to be trying to persuade them down.
As the on-site reporter began describing the situation, the broadcast abruptly cut back to the studio. The anchor's face showed alarm as she announced, "Breaking news just in: a sudden ground collapse in Roppongi has swallowed several vehicles. The number of casualties is currently unknown. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has initiated emergency protocols and dispatched mobile riot police units to support the situation."
Liu Hui felt like his eyes had been opened. In just a short time watching the news, several unbelievable incidents had occurred. However, the Japanese police were efficient; they responded immediately wherever an incident took place. But this was actually beneficial for him—if police were tied up everywhere, the Police Headquarters wouldn't have many officers left, making his operation tonight easier. Still, a persistent feeling of unease gnawed at him.
Time crept by until eleven at night. Liu Hui felt it was time. He meticulously checked the contents of his storage space once more, then quietly slipped out the hotel window, beginning his slow walk toward the Police Headquarters. On the way, he transformed into the appearance of another stranger.
Liu Hui proceeded at an unhurried pace towards the Police Headquarters, frequently hearing the wail of police sirens on the route—likely another emergency somewhere. By the time he reached the vicinity of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, it was midnight. He concealed himself in the shadow of a nearby building, observing the activity within the headquarters.
Perhaps due to the high demand for emergency responses across the city, the headquarters seemed sparsely populated tonight. Very few rooms had lights on. Liu Hui smiled, ready to begin his infiltration, when several large vehicles suddenly emerged from a small alley, followed by several vans.
The large vehicles violently swerved and charged straight toward the main entrance of the Police Headquarters. Although there were steps leading up to the entrance, those steps offered no meaningful resistance to the massive tires of the heavy vehicles. The trucks plowed through the gate, shattering glass as they burst into the lobby. The vans stopped just outside the entrance; their doors flew open, and a squad of men in black, armed with submachine guns, poured out to establish an armed perimeter.
Liu Hui rubbed his eyes hard, half-believing what he saw. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the central headquarters for all of Tokyo's police, was being directly assaulted. Was he hallucinating? Was this really the Japan with such excellent public order? Liu Hui's original intent was merely to change his appearance, sneak in quietly, and retrieve the narcotics.
Intense gunfire erupted from inside the headquarters—the remaining officers engaging the intruders. This was quickly followed by the piercing sound of an alarm, but the gunfire inside soon ceased. The perimeter guards outside, however, seemed completely unaffected by the firefight and alarm, continuing their patrols around the building with their assault rifles at the ready.
Liu Hui stealthily moved forward, using the cover of darkness. He ambushed the nearest black-clad man, knocking him out instantly, and dragged him into the shadows behind a structure. Soon, Liu Hui had transformed into the appearance of that very guard and swaggered toward the entrance of the Police Headquarters.
"Ota-kun, what are you doing?" a black-clad man who appeared to be the leader barked out.
"I suddenly have a terrible stomach ache and need to use the restroom inside," Liu Hui clutched his abdomen, looking genuinely distressed.
"Didn't you just use the restroom before we arrived?" the leader asked suspiciously.
"Maybe it's the stress; I have to go again," Liu Hui said with a grimace.
"Then hurry up. We finally managed to draw those police officers away from here tonight. We don't have much time," the leader waved his hand, urging Liu Hui to go in quickly.
Liu Hui nodded and bowed repeatedly as he entered the Police Headquarters lobby. Inside, he saw the several large vehicles parked in the main hall. Next to the vehicles lay the bodies of several officers. One officer was slumped in front of the vehicles, seemingly just unconscious, with a couple of police pistols scattered on the floor nearby. The walls around the lobby were riddled with bullet holes, and the surveillance monitors had all been shot out.
Liu Hui picked up two police pistols. He was deeply frustrated. What on earth were those men trying to achieve by storming a police station? And why now, just as he was about to start his own operation? Where was he supposed to look for information about the drugs now? It seemed all the police here had been neutralized.
Liu Hui decided to follow the trail of the gunfire, hoping to find a surviving officer to question. After turning a corner, he spotted an officer lying on the ground, groaning, still breathing. A thought struck him, and he immediately shifted his appearance to that of the unconscious officer from moments before.
Liu Hui rushed over, helped the wounded officer lean against a wall, and the officer, seeing him, moved his lips. "Uesawa-kun, someone is trying to rob the contraband in the basement. Quickly notify..." The officer stopped mid-sentence and died. Liu Hui froze. The men in black were after the stolen goods in the basement. But then he realized: something was wrong. Weren't the black-clad men also after the drugs? Damn it, he had run into competitors.
Liu Hui finally understood that their objective was the same as his. He became instantly anxious. Those drugs were already claimed by him; he wouldn't allow anyone else to interfere. He increased his pace, heading relentlessly downward. All the way, he saw evidence of intense combat—bodies of police officers shot dead dotted the path.
Liu Hui continued forward, estimating he had descended at least forty to fifty meters underground when he suddenly heard voices engaged in dialogue.
"Speak! What is the password for this room?" a fierce voice roared.
"The password is Fie, Tian, but the door requires the Chairman's fingerprint and iris scan to open," a terrified voice responded.
"Don't worry about that part. Rest in peace!" the fierce voice suddenly chuckled, followed by the sound of a gunshot and a body hitting the floor.
Liu Hui hid around a corner and cautiously extended a small mirror. Through the mirror, he observed the scene inside.
More than ten masked bandits were gathered around an electronic door. Several police bodies lay on the floor. The fierce voice commanded, "Kumagai-kun, it's up to you."
A short figure emerged from the group. He slipped a thin membrane over his finger and placed an object resembling a contact lens over his eye. He approached the electronic door, first entering the password, then placing his finger on the scanner, and finally, undergoing the iris scan. After completing these actions, the door chimed pleasantly, saying, "Welcome, Chairman Shingen!" The electronic door immediately slid open.
The man with the fierce voice burst into loud laughter. "The Metropolitan Police thought they could cripple the San-Kou-Gumi simply by arresting our President and Vice President? They underestimated our organization. Our ability to hide is beyond their imagination. Taking back these drugs now is a clear show of force!"
Several bandits beside him chimed in with laughter. "Massimo-san is truly brilliant. With a simple feint, they drew away the police, and now their main stronghold's defenses are this weak. It's a gift from heaven to the San-Kou-Gumi!"
"Brothers, go inside and move the goods. We don't have much time," the leader named Massimo instructed.
"Hai!" the crowd shouted in unison, then flooded through the electronic door.
"Wow! So many drugs! I wonder how much this is worth?" voices inside exclaimed in awe.
"Stop the nonsense, start moving quickly!"
Liu Hui revealed himself and slowly walked through the electronic door. He saw the group rummaging for tools. Inside the room, it was stacked high with narcotics.
"Heh heh, this is my merchandise. No one touches anything without my permission!" Liu Hui said with a smile.
