Planet Paradise was one of the few planets in the Sin Sector whose primary source of income was tourism. The main tourist attraction on this planet was facilitating close contact between the leisurely and affluent nobility and the destitute masses, with the goal of enhancing the nobles' sense of self-satisfaction. Examples included distributing relief supplies and money to the poor to receive their gratitude, living alongside the poor to experience their hardships, and visiting their dwellings to hear their tragic stories while shedding a few tears to lament the coldness of human affection.
The slogan for Planet Paradise read: "Because of the descent of a god-like, noble, and benevolent you, this planet truly becomes a paradise for the poor. You, who possess the power of a Cosmic God, come and save your devout subjects."
Lan Li, leading An Junlie and Di Tar, stood awkwardly before the massive billboard of the United Government of Planet Paradise.
"Didn't we come here to make money? Why drag us here?" An Junlie, equally speechless at the utterly shameless and nauseating advertisement on the enormous billboard, didn't want to stay another second beneath it. He got straight to the point, asking Lan Li what the next step was.
Lan Li gave a sly grin, pointed to the massive administrative building behind the billboard, and said, "This is the office for applying to establish a Noble Tourism Base. Once we handle the paperwork inside, the wealthy folks carrying tons of Universal Credits will flock to our space station to shower us with money."
Di Tar, assuming Lan Li had cooked up some grand scheme, waved his hands repeatedly: "That won't work. No matter how poor we are, we won't become pets for people to gawk at."
"Don't worry, I wouldn't let anyone keep me as a pet either. Let's go, watch me," Lan Li said, stepping into the building first.
Though still baffled, Di Tar reflected that what Lan Li said made sense, and followed him in. An Junlie, naturally lacking in worldly experience, simply followed Lan Li’s lead, tailing closely behind.
Upon entering the building, all three—Lan Li, An Junlie, and Di Tar—were stunned. What in the cosmos was this scene? In an era where one could cultivate and transplant body organs using one's own cells in minutes, what was with these people dressed up as if they were missing limbs? Also, could they please try to be more professional? The extent of the bandages was too exaggerated; it was obvious that hands and feet were curled up inside to fake amputations. Hey, hey, you there, buddy, you don't have to try so hard, what exactly are you doing clutching between your legs? And sir, if you're going to fake it, could you please shave that bushy beard off your face? Ah, and the most crucial point: those few women with two pure white wings strapped to their backs—are your eyes broken? Those people only cried out feebly twice, yet your tears were pouring out like automatic spigots. It was a genuine loss to the Universe Entertainment Guild for not recruiting you as the leading actress in their new film.
As the trio was mesmerized by the spectacle before them, a female staff member, who appeared relatively normal for the environment, walked out. She seemed completely accustomed to the scene, approaching Lan Li without a sideways glance: "How may we be of service to you?"
Finally, a normal person appeared. Lan Li secretly breathed a sigh of relief and replied with an elegant smile: "Beautiful and captivating goddess, please tell me how I can apply to have my residence designated as a tourist spot on this planet?"
The female staff member had initially wanted to appear demure and modest upon hearing Lan Li's description of her, but the moment she heard he was applying to make his dwelling a planetary tourist base, her expression immediately shifted. She cast a sidelong glance at the three of them, her eyes filled with disdain, and pointed to the figures wailing on the floor: "As long as your experiences are more miserable than theirs, that's all it takes."
Lan Li’s actual goal was never to apply for a tourist designation, so he feigned distress: "Uh, we don't seem quite as miserable as them. What should we do then?"
The staff member showed an expression of 'just as I expected.' She scrutinized the trio again, this time without a hint of emotion, then pointed at Lan Li and An Junlie: "You two look promising. If you're willing, I can arrange a meeting for you with some wealthy ladies. Given your qualities, you should be able to earn a decent amount of tips daily. As for you," she gestured to Di Tar, "you're a bit older. I'm not sure if the wealthy ladies would fancy your type."
Everyone present, except for the utterly bewildered An Junlie, immediately understood what kind of work the staff member was offering. Lan Li and Di Tar pictured the scene in their minds—it was horrifying.
"Er, is there no other way?" Lan Li certainly wasn't going to agree to that proposition.
The staff member nodded knowingly. She assessed Lan Li up and down once more, then said uncertainly, "It seems you're a man who understands the rules. But if you insist on this path, are you not considering my earlier suggestion? Remember, if you mess up, the consequences could be even worse than what I just proposed."
Lan Li nodded firmly without hesitation, making the female attendant shake her head repeatedly, looking truly pitying for him.
"Are you absolutely sure you won't change your mind?" the staff member asked again. "Really reconsider my previous offer?"
"No! Please, just show us the way," Lan Li said, making a firm gesture of invitation.
Seeing his resolve, the female attendant said no more and swiftly turned to lead the way. In the instant she turned her back, a triumphant smile flickered across her face.
Simultaneously, a look of successful deception spread across Lan Li’s face. Di Tar, who had been quietly worried because he couldn't understand the final exchange between Lan Li and the staff member, was instantly reassured by Lan Li’s smile, and his steps became lighter. Di Tar himself didn't realize that he had known Lan Li and An Junlie for barely more than a day, yet he already trusted the two youths so inherently.
The path wasn't long. After taking a levitating sphere, they soon arrived at their destination.
As Lan Li, An Junlie, and Di Tar stepped out of the sphere, they were jolted by a sound that grew louder and louder. Looking out, they saw a beautiful vista lush with shady trees and vibrant flowers. The air was thick with the enticing aroma of wine and food. In this scene of indulgence, it was clear that both men and women were almost completely exposed to each other, with the wanton sounds of singing women blending with the unique roars of men, constantly assaulting their ears.
An Junlie had decided to defer to Lan Li’s arrangements until he could better integrate into human society, but the scene before him… An Junlie couldn't help but tilt his head and cast a dubious glance at Lan Li.
Even the well-traveled Lan Li felt his face flush, and under the dual pressure of An Junlie’s and Di Tar’s gazes, he uncomfortably questioned the staff member. "Didn't I say we weren't here for that?"
The attendant giggled, covering her mouth: "Hehe, don't worry, I understand. The area you need is further back. That zone is higher-level, and you must pass through here first. But really, you should reconsider. This place is quite nice."
This time, not only Lan Li but also An Junlie shook their heads vehemently; they wouldn't stay here another second for anything. The attendant could only shrug, thinking she had done her duty—they couldn't blame her if the ending turned out disastrously.
Passing through the area resembling a pool of wine and a forest of flesh, stepping over a world where pale bodies were openly displayed, Lan Li felt his vision suddenly clear. The cloying scent of wine and meat was gone from the air, the surrounding light was much brighter, and the noise had subsided, replaced by a quiet air tinged with mystery.
The female attendant led the trio to a very large platform: "This is your destination. If a noble merchant takes a liking to you, they will naturally place a bid. You can treat this money as gambling stakes; any winnings are yours entirely. However, since this relies purely on luck, only the bidder can choose you; you have no right to select your own master. Whether the final result is good or bad will be decided by fate. If you agree, sign this contract."
Lan Li took the contract, read it carefully, found no objections, and signed his name briskly before handing it back to the attendant. An Junlie saw Lan Li sign and followed suit. Di Tar, seeing the two youngsters sign, gritted his teeth and signed as well.
The attendant reached out to take the contracts from An Junlie and Di Tar, but Lan Li snatched them away with quick reflexes, flipping through them meticulously before tossing them to the attendant while muttering to himself: "What the heck, I'm clearly so handsome and exceptional, but my contract is the same as these two fellows—truly annoying."
The attendant, initially annoyed that Lan Li had grabbed the papers, couldn't help but chuckle at his complaint: "Hehe. For fairness, everyone's contracts are the same. But the prices the esteemed guests bid will be different, depending entirely on their personal preferences. That's where your true worth will be revealed."
After saying this, the attendant took the contracts and left immediately, leaving Lan Li, An Junlie, and Di Tar alone in the dark surroundings.
"Sadora, ten thousand Universal Credits," a mechanical female voice suddenly cut through the silence.
"Hahaha, Sadora, only ten thousand Universal Credits? I thought some noble would take a liking to you. What a miscalculation. I shouldn't have brought you along," Lan Li slapped Di Tar's shoulder and laughed loudly.
? Sadora? Di Tar's mind was full of question marks. He didn't know why Lan Li suddenly called him that. Was this a new nickname Lan Li had given him? Despite his confusion, Di Tar knew Lan Li must have his reasons, so he just managed an awkward, sheepish smile without asking anything.
"Lidonan, one million Universal Credits," the mechanical female voice rang out again.
This time, Lan Li patted An Junlie's shoulder, his face full of satisfaction: "Not bad, Lidonan. It wasn't a waste bringing you here to see the world; you're quite popular. If we're unlucky later, we'll have to rely on you to serve the esteemed guest."
An Junlie remained silent, leveling a cold glare at Lan Li.
"Lidonan, three million!" "I bid fifteen million Universal Credits. Too handsome, a cool little zheng tai—exactly my taste." "Lidonan, twenty million! No one is taking him from me!" The mechanical female voices interjected one after another.
Lan Li gave An Junlie a thumbs-up, then adjusted his stance, striking the most elegant and handsome pose possible, batting his eyes into the dark surroundings, contentedly listening to the gasps coming from all directions, waiting for his own bid.
"Skater, thirty million Universal Credits." A mechanical male voice spoke up.
This synthesized male voice completely caught Lan Li by surprise. An Junlie and Di Tar also froze for a moment, then burst into unrestrained laughter. As he laughed, An Junlie didn't forget to praise Lan Li: "Not bad, you really are the most popular among us three. If we get unlucky later, we'll rely on you to serve the esteemed guest."
Lan Li was furious. An Junlie had stolen the exact words he'd used to tease him, and the bid was from a man for such a high price—Lan Li would rather have nothing. Lan Li immediately started flailing his limbs and shouting wildly into the darkness: "I don't serve men! Get lost!"
"Skater, one hundred and ten million Universal Credits." While Lan Li was throwing his tantrum, a mechanical female voice placed a bid, drawing gasps of astonishment from the surroundings. No one had offered a higher price than this voice. The bidding officially concluded.
Because Lan Li had set a new historical high for a single-person bid, the trio received extraordinary treatment. The female attendant who had led them here was among those who greeted them. This time, however, her demeanor was no longer arrogant. She approached Lan Li and knelt on one knee: "Mr. Skater, please allow me, Lilya, to serve you. I will accompany your entire journey from now on, ensuring you receive the same treatment as the esteemed guests who arrive here."
"Heh, how realistic. The treatment now compared to when we arrived is like heaven and earth," Lan Li mocked, though his heart was pounding. While he knew his charm was astonishing, he wasn't so narcissistic as to believe a noble lady would spend one hundred and ten million Universal Credits on him. Could one of the bidders be from the Lan Clan itself? Had his identity been exposed?
Hearing Lan Li's jab, Lilya sank back onto her knee, deeply apologetic: "Mr. Skater, I apologize for my rudeness just now. I beg you to put in a good word for me before Princess Xingluo later."
"Princess Xingluo?" Lan Li raised an eyebrow, signaling Lilya to continue.
Lilya could only go on: "By regulation, we cannot reveal who your future master will be until we confirm that your side has completely relinquished its claim to the God of Destiny. This is to prevent unnecessary trouble and danger to our esteemed guests. However, Princess Xingluo said that even if you lose, she is willing to redeem you, treating you as an equal. I believe telling you that the person who supported you with one hundred and ten million Universal Credits just now was Princess Xingluo will not cause any significant issue."
"Princess Xingluo!" Lan Li stroked his chin in thought, trying to recall if he had ever encountered a Princess Xingluo when visiting various noble houses and kingdoms with his father in the Lan Clan. After a thorough check, he couldn't remember anyone. Did his personal charm truly reach such heights? The curve of Lan Li's lips grew strange.
An Junlie glanced at the twitching Lan Li, unable to bear watching. "This guy is getting narcissistic again," An Junlie scorned internally.
The group, each lost in their own thoughts, followed Lilya aimlessly, soon arriving at a lively area. This liveliness was entirely different from the previous one; there was no over-the-top excitement driven by hormones here, only the thrill born from surging adrenaline. Some people were shouting happily while clutching piles of tokens: "I won! I won!" Others were sprawled on the ground, murmuring: "Nothing left. I have nothing at all!" Still others were being dragged away, screaming: "Give me one more chance! I don't want to serve people, please give me another chance!"
"Ha, it seems no matter how much humanity develops, the gambling industry remains fundamentally the same," before Lan Li could speak, An Junlie broke the silence.
"Heh heh, I knew bringing you here was the right choice. It seems that even though you're unfamiliar with human society in this technological age, you know a lot about this particular entertainment," Lan Li leaned in towards An Junlie, shamelessly asking.
An Junlie was uncomfortable with Lan Li crowding him so closely and maintained a small distance before replying: "I don't know much about the rest, but I have played cards, dice, and Pai Gow with my Master. Whoever lost had to cook the meal."
"Ah?" Lan Li, who had been expecting An Junlie to show off his skills, instantly looked disappointed. "Then it seems your skill isn't very good. Otherwise, your cooking wouldn't be so excellent."
"Tch!" An Junlie's cheeks flushed crimson from Lan Li's teasing, and he stubbornly jutted out his neck: "That's because Grandpa always found new ways to cheat. Otherwise, how could I never manage to beat him?"
"Okay, okay, I said nothing," Lan Li raised both hands in surrender, adopting an attentive expression that suggested he would believe whatever An Junlie said, even if it were a lie.
An Junlie was utterly provoked by Lan Li’s expression and dashed straight to the dice table. He listened intently to the sound of the dealer shaking the dice, pointed at a specific spot, and instructed Lilya: "Here, put everything on this."
"All—all in?" Lilya, having heard everything, looked to Lan Li for guidance.
Lan Li looked at the look Lilya cast him and found the atmosphere bizarre. Why was she asking for his opinion? "Hahaha, Lilya, weren't you hoping we'd lose quickly so you could get your commission from Princess Xingluo? Why the hesitation? Hurry up and bet all our money on what this guy says!"
Lilya was exposed, her little scheme revealed, making her lose face. She furiously placed all of their funds on the bet, inwardly cursing Lan Li for trusting the wrong person, hoping they would immediately be taken by Princess Xingluo as male concubines, saving everyone else from his disruptive influence.
The dice dealer noticed such a massive wager on this table and his hand, holding the cover over the dice, trembled with excitement. To control his emotions, the dealer held the dice cover with his right hand and pressed his left hand against his chest, calming himself. The surrounding gamblers, who loved chaos, grew excited seeing such a huge bet placed, and they gathered three layers deep around the table, shouting loudly: "Reveal! Reveal! Reveal! Reveal!..."
