The basket Nado had taken was used by Lingyin to trade for food, but being as clever as she was, she secretly set aside two Star Cakes, giving Ye a chance to finally see something to eat.
Lingyin put on the air of a dutiful wife and loving mother. "Seeing as you worked so hard today, let me do it, master," she said sweetly.
Ziye sneered. "If I hadn't been touching a pile of bones and didn't need to wash my hands, I wouldn't want you to feed me!"
As soon as the words left her mouth, Lingyin jumped three feet back. "What bones were you touching?"
Ziye deliberately tried to scare her. "I think they were dinosaur bones. They were huge, and when I went over there, I saw they were covered in bugs..." As she spoke, she gave a fake gag. "I suddenly don't feel like eating anymore."
Lingyin ripped open the wrapper and shoved a Star Cake into her mouth. "Whether you feel like eating or not, you're going to swallow this."
Sprent patted her shoulder upon seeing this. "You should be content. So many people wish they even had a chance to eat one."
It was better he hadn't patted her; the impact nearly made Ziye spit out the Star Cake.
Ziye glared at them with resentment. Was it easy for her to eat even one Star Cake?
After finishing the Star Cakes, everyone cleaned up. The twins climbed into the cockpit to serve as pilots.
Because it was the oldest and simplest model of mech, the cockpit space was large enough to squeeze two people in.
The rest of them—Ziye and Chun'er climbed onto the mech's right palm, ** and Lingyin sat on the left hand. Thus, this freshly assembled, older model Lings-type mech held four people in its hands as it flew toward the coordinates designated for mech submission.
The coordinates pointed to a small command center at the ground base, not very far from the valley—only a few hundred kilometers. It would take only a short time to get there by mech, but if the mech couldn't be completed, there was no way they could return to the command center.
When the Outbound team arrived, four or five other teams had already submitted their mechs. However, most of them had used damaged engines, resulting in mechs that looked like they might fall apart at any moment from rattling all the way there.
About half an hour later, the teams that had gone into the forest to find replacement parts began trickling in to submit their mechs. Many teams, afraid of running out of time, had seen the natural plant-based adhesive Ziye used at the Bone Mountain site, directly uprooted a plant, used the sap to glue the broken crossbars back together, and submitted.
By the deadline, a total of fourteen mechs had been submitted.
After the submission was complete, people crowded around to thank Ziye and Aix.
Aix stood beside Ziye, held out his hand, and said, "Thanks are unnecessary; just give us money, money."
Everyone burst into laughter.
After the deadline passed, the Resurrection Round officials sent airships to pick up the contestants who hadn't finished their mechs. A smiling official announced, "The first round of the Resurrection is now officially concluded. All those who used intact engines can advance directly. Those who used damaged engines will participate in the second round tomorrow."
Huh?
There was a second round?
Thank goodness, they had used intact engines and could advance directly!
Oh yeah!
This arrangement was quite fair; the teams using damaged mechs couldn't argue. Only those who could have finished but gave up due to engine damage regretted their decision immensely.
—In fact, the officials had seen everything Fellas had done, but they hadn't stopped it.
Having a disruptive element like them only served to increase the difficulty of the competition, which wasn't a bad thing.
In difficult moments, a team's quality and ability to adapt in an emergency were more clearly displayed.
The cheers of the Outbound team hadn't even ended when the staff member continued, "Members who don't need to participate in the second round can stay to observe if they wish. Those who don't want to stay should pack their belongings quickly and wait at the base landing platform. The cruiser will take off in half an hour."
Ziye and her group exchanged glances, unsure whether to stay or leave.
Lingyin, with her impulsive personality, rushed up to the staff member and loudly asked, "What will the second round involve? Can you reveal anything?"
They needed to know what the event was to decide whether to stay.
The staff member replied, "Tomorrow will be one-on-one PK matches using the mechs completed today. Winners advance. Those who need to repair their mechs should do so quickly."
Wow!
The twins immediately got energized. "We absolutely have to stay and watch, absolutely."
The other members of the Outbound team had no objections either, so they all decided to stay and observe the matches.
The members of the Qingtian team were standing nearby. Hearing this, they walked over toward the Outbound team. Thinking they were looking for a fight, the Outbound members immediately straightened their stances.
Li Wei hastily said, "We didn't mean anything else."
Lingyin threw his words back at him. "We didn't mean anything else either."
Li Wei smiled at Lingyin, then turned to the twins and said solemnly, "I've long admired the Twin Kings of Lings; I never had the chance before. How about we PK tomorrow?"
The twins spoke in unison. "You want to fight both of us?"
Li Wei quickly clarified. "That's not what I meant. I mean, I will fight one of you."
The twins exchanged a look and simultaneously extended their hands, one grabbing Li Wei's left hand, the other his right. Aix said, "We also look forward to a showdown with the Lings Ace, but unfortunately..." Sprent chimed in, "So, we will confirm who will PK you tomorrow."
Li Wei had heard of Aix and Sprent long ago and had heard rumors about their peculiar way of interacting, but seeing it firsthand still surprised him a little. He shook hands with both of them with a sense of resignation and nodded. "See you on the battlefield tomorrow!"
Seeing that things were settled, Ziye immediately said, "I'll go prepare some fruit and tea for tomorrow's viewing."
The twins poked Ziye on either side. "Let's go, together."
And so, the group headed toward the command center's large mess hall in a procession.
Unfortunately, they once again 'ran into' the Fellas team on the way, who were packing up to leave.
The Fellas team this time was utterly miserable. Not only were they beaten black and blue, but one of them had also sprained an ankle—at least ten times worse off than when Li Chunyu was beaten. In short: they were all casualties.
The other teams hadn't even needed to lay a finger on them; they had already beaten them to within an inch of their lives.
Ziye's group felt no sympathy and burst out laughing—a loud, satisfying laugh.
Damn Fellas, they deserved this end!
The Fellas captain glared hatefully. "You guys absolutely won't make it to the end!"
Ziye stuck her tongue out at him with a mischievous smile. "We don't know how far we'll go. We only know that you're done here."
Ales became enraged and tried to charge forward to fight.
The twins had been waiting for this moment, simultaneously taking fighting stances in front.
The Fellas members saw the twins' energized posture and didn't dare to act rashly. They quickly hustled Ales away, heading toward the cruiser's landing platform like a pack of stray dogs.
The twins retracted their hands in unison and snorted. "If we see them again, we'll fight them again."
The second round of PK matches was generally very harmonious.
With the disruptive element gone, everyone remaining was genuinely serious about the competition. Although two teams had previously tried to be disruptive, having reached this stage, no one reverted to their old ways.
Early in the morning, the twins woke up to practice their piloting diligently. Even if it was a friendly PK, they absolutely had to win!
