Kuang Feifan himself was quite surprised that he wasn't taken aback by Feng Tian’s answer; this kid carried too many bizarre things in his bag, frequently producing items unacceptable to ordinary people.
However, another thought occurred to him, and he asked Feng Tian, "Should we use yours or mine? Generally speaking, yours should be the most effective, right?"
Feng Tian ignored the question and merely rummaged through his bag, pulling out a mineral water bottle from the bottom and thrusting it toward Kuang Feifan. "Quick, use this, hurry up."
Even in such an urgent situation, Kuang Feifan couldn't help but hold up the bottle and ask, "Why do you have an empty mineral water bottle in your bag?"
Feng Tian, without lifting his head, replied, "I finished drinking it and casually stuffed it in my bag. I originally planned to sell it later, but I kept forgetting it was in there."
Saying this, he found a larger plastic container, poured out the powder inside, and then stood up, urging Kuang Feifan, "Hurry up, we don't have much time. If you have it, use it now."
The subsequent problem was considerably simpler. The two of them desperately squeezed out some liquid and splashed it toward the mist behind them. The outcome proved it was indeed effective. The mist that came into contact with the urine writhed violently under the light. Although it didn't completely vanish, it appeared to stop moving forward, merely hovering in place.
Kuang Feifan and Feng Tian were horrified to discover a hazy human face faintly visible within the seemingly boundless mist. Yet, since all they could see from their vantage point were massive clumps of fog, they couldn't be certain. Still, Feng Tian felt that face looked somewhat familiar.
But studying the situation within the mist while standing there was clearly not the right time. Seeing that the mist was no longer pursuing them, the two hastily gathered themselves and continued their escape forward.
It wasn't until Feng Tian could no longer hold on that they finally stopped. With nowhere nearby to lean against, they reluctantly sat down once more.
"No... something's wrong. You heard footsteps, so how is there mist?" Feng Tian managed to ask after gasping for air.
Kuang Feifan offered a wry smile. "How would I know? I'm more surprised that the mist is actually afraid of... urine."
Feng Tian closed his eyes and pondered. "Some spirits are indeed afraid of foul things, including urine or excrement."
Kuang Feifan waved his hand dismissively. "Please, stop talking about such disgusting things."
Feng Tian pouted. "You’re not a girl, why are you squeamish? What we just did wasn't exactly pristine, either."
Kuang Feifan threw up his hands in surrender. "OK, serious business. And we need a short rest; there are much trickier things to deal with ahead."
Feng Tian had Kuang Feifan shine the flashlight while he himself went through his bag, taking inventory. After counting everything, he announced that unless they found the small car immediately, they would be virtually out of items suitable for dealing with the specters.
Kuang Feifan suggested, "Next time, you better stock some food in your bag, just in case of emergencies."
Feng Tian couldn't help but chuckle. "If you think you can still swallow food after keeping it alongside... that stuff, then I'll stock up."
"Ugh..." Kuang Feifan glared at him. "Forget it, stop with the pointless banter. What’s the plan now? Are you going to use that small spell again?"
Feng Tian once more cast the "Object Seeking Spell." The two followed the floating orb of light. Kuang Feifan stared at the light for a long time, mentally resolving that if they got out, he absolutely had to ask Bai Ru why he was seeing purple butterflies again.
Having learned from the previous encounter, both of them kept their ears pricked this time. After all, the flashlight only illuminated one direction and within a limited range. If Kuang Feifan hadn't sensed something amiss and turned back to shine the light, they both might have been silently consumed by that mist. Whether they died or not was secondary; being trapped in utter darkness with no way out would probably be worse than instant death.
They walked forward in silence until, suddenly, pinpricks of green light illuminated in the distance.
"Damn, are those the paper figures?" Kuang Feifan exclaimed immediately upon seeing them.
However, those paper figures were clearly the easiest to deal with, and their eyes glowed fully in the dark, exposing their locations. But for some unknown reason, that feeling of unease surged uncontrollably in Kuang Feifan’s chest once more.
The orb of light continued to drift slowly ahead, suggesting Feng Tian's car was nearby. The two paused, and just to be safe, they prepared two more cans of their fog-repelling concoction. Kuang Feifan readied the canister, and Feng Tian shouldered his bag, gripping the flashlight. Once they felt prepared, they continued to follow the light.
Indeed, after advancing a short distance further, paper figures began faintly appearing, suspended in mid-air all around them, accompanied by the incessant rustling sound of paper reaching their ears.
Kuang Feifan raised the canister and sprayed several approaching paper figures in quick succession. The two began to quicken their pace, and Feng Tian instinctively urged the light orb to move faster.
The closer they got, the more concentrated the paper figures became. Kuang Feifan continuously sprayed flames, trying to blast a path forward as quickly as possible, while Feng Tian kept his eyes glued to the floating orb above, ensuring they didn't lose sight of their target.
But some of the burning paper figures didn't immediately lose mobility and continued to lunge at them. This caused the pair considerable distress, forcing them to dodge and weave frantically. On several occasions, the flames nearly scorched them.
Finally, after sustaining only a few superficial burns, they saw the dilapidated 'Eight-Legged QQ' car far in the distance.
"What now?" Kuang Feifan asked, by this point carefully conserving the combustible gas in his canister, focusing instead on weaving between the paper figures with Feng Tian.
Feng Tian, having just scrambled past two figures and not yet fully upright, replied when Kuang Feifan asked, "Simple. I’m going to turn this car into a massive bomb."
Hearing this, Kuang Feifan was thoroughly startled. He rushed forward a few steps and grabbed Feng Tian. "Are you crazy? There's absolutely nowhere to shelter here. If we blow it up just like this, who knows if it will damage the space, but we’ll definitely be blown to kingdom come."
Feng Tian gritted his teeth. "Do you have another way? This is the only idea I have. As for dodging it, we’ll just have to leave it to fate and try to fashion some rudimentary cover."
Kuang Feifan frowned. Suddenly, he heard a strange noise behind him and whipped his head around, seeing a paper figure lunging at him with its mouth wide open. Since it was too close to use the canister, he instinctively raised his hand, thrusting his fingers directly toward the paper figure's green, glowing eye.
With a soft puff, Kuang Feifan hit the eye perfectly. Instantly, he felt as if his finger had plunged into a bucket filled with ice; the cold was bone-chilling, but the green light vanished the moment he pierced the paper eye.
A sound like blurr-la-la echoed, and Kuang Feifan watched as the paper figure convulsed violently before collapsing entirely, like a toy bear whose batteries had died.
Feng Tian yelled out excitedly, "You found their weakness!"
Saying that, he swung a punch toward the eye of the nearest paper figure. With a thump, Feng Tian couldn't help but cry out in pain. He felt like his hand had struck a sheet of iron, while the paper figure merely swayed, baring its teeth as it lunged to bite him.
