Pearl Station wasn't in the same stellar sector as Kaga; getting from Kaga to Pearl required at least five warp jumps, passing through three stargates, taking twenty minutes in total. It had been less than two days since the semester started—how could she have traveled that far? Ziye asked, "What are you doing over there?"
Li Chunya sighed helplessly, "Professor Alpha assigned an emergency research project yesterday. I have to stay at the private research institute on Pearl Station for seven days to finish it before I can return."
Ziye looked helplessly at the twins, who exchanged a look and scoffed, "Student Li Chunya, are you really that exhausted by a mere assignment?"
Li Chunya's face flushed crimson as he defensively protested, "It's not that! It was because I got lost!"
The twins looked bewildered. "Can't you use the auto-navigation? How did you get lost?"
Ziye, having experienced Li Chunya's navigational ineptitude before, shook her head and sighed. Auto-navigation was only useful if you knew the destination station. Li Chunya was an absolute idiot when it came to remembering coordinates; how could he not get lost? Heaven was fair; it granted a person one talent while stripping away another.
Li Chunya was hailed as a juvenile genius in mecha design, yet in the realm of getting lost, he was a natural-born simpleton.
The twins wanted to help him, so they asked for the detailed address to give him directions. Ziye, listening nearby, couldn't help but wonder if she could design a super-duper navigation system for him to reduce his lost time.
As Ziye pondered this internally, Li Chunya seemed to recall something and asked, "Right, YaYa, for some reason, lately people keep asking about the relationship between you and me. Have they been bothering you?"
The twins were slightly surprised.
The commotion over the last two days had reached everyone in the Movement Point; they were just wondering why Li Chunya hadn't shown up to say something, only to realize the fool was so busy he couldn't even find his way!
To be honest, if Li Chunya had watched all this unfold without intervening or taking any action, even if he had presented a Platinum Tycoon before them, they wouldn't have given it a second glance.
To them, friendship was the most precious thing, surpassing any machine!
Ziye didn't know what the twins were thinking and didn't want Li Chunya to worry, so she replied, "No, everything’s fine."
After cutting the communication, Aex chuckled sinisterly, "Correct. No need to let that guy know; we can handle this. Step one: hack all the junk on the Light Net, one by one."
This was Little Sprout's specialty.
Ziye smiled slyly, "Want to check it out now?"
Aex opened his optical computer screen, searching for information about the rumors, only to be surprised that all the rumors, all the messages, all the videos, and all the photos had vanished!
In their place was a single small bean sprout.
Aex found it magical. He clicked on one, and the video had been replaced by "The Growth Cycle of a Small Bean Sprout." A bean accidentally dropped to the ground; a dark cloud drifted across the horizon, and rain began to fall.
Watered by the rain, the little sprout grew roots that anchored it to the ground. As the sun rose, the bean cracked open, and two tender leaves emerged. The leaves were plump and curved into a cute smile in the wind.
"Good heavens, is this a children's illustration?" Aex pointed at the sprout on the screen and asked Ziye, "Did you do this? That's powerful."
Ziye smiled but remained silent.
Spent voiced his dissatisfaction, "Come on, spill it. Are we strangers to you?"
Ziye just kept quiet, calmly sipping her rose tea. After finishing, she commented, "The roses aren't fresh enough; the spice scent is too strong."
The twins looked at her displeasedly, and in the next second, they both slapped her on the head: "Hurry up and tell us what happened!" As soon as the words left their mouths, the optical computer screen suddenly went dark.
Aex hastily released her to check the computer. There were no external physical issues, and he tried to power it on; it seemed fine. Seeing that he was about to try and retrieve the previous sprout video, Ziye quickly said, "Don't touch it! Something bad will happen!"
Aex ignored her advice, insisting on searching, threatening, "If you don't tell me, I'll keep poking it."
Ziye raised her hands in surrender, "Fine, I'll tell you."
This was the brilliant method she and Little Sprout devised to wipe the traces from the Light Net after Aex had rejected her initial proposal. Little Sprout replaced all the information and videos with the little sprout animation.
Many people following the gossip, upon seeing such a bizarre transformation, would click in to investigate clearly. After the first click, the optical computer would automatically shut down after five minutes as a warning.
If the gossip-monger wasn't deterred and reopened the computer, a second click would cause it to shut down automatically within one minute; if there was a third attempt, the entire system would crash completely, rendering it impossible to reboot ever again!
Little Sprout was the overlord of the Light Net; it was so dominant that as long as there was a network, it could reach anywhere. As for the traces and addresses that hackers usually worried about, those were non-issues for it.
It moved without a trace, taking less than half a second to deploy a virus.
For boys, a crashed computer meant years of stored data turning to ash; for girls, losing a huge collection of photos was frustrating enough to last a while.
When Ziye explained the virus mechanism, the two burst into laughter.
This was the MengYaYa sister they knew.
After their laughter subsided, Spent checked the time and sighed, "Our method of revenge pales in comparison to yours; we’re almost embarrassed to bring it up."
Ziye noticed that despite his sigh, he looked rather smug, so she asked curiously, "What kind of revenge did you prepare?"
The twins smiled mysteriously and said in unison, "We'll treat them the way they treated us!"
The three of them started laughing and joking around happily.
No matter how much Ziye pressed them, they wouldn't say anything. When Ziye asked too many times, Spent even pulled a 'bathroom dodge,' running off to the washroom. The path leading to the washroom was lined with wisteria vines, forming a circular archway from which the blossoms draped down, beautifully intoxicating.
Spent paused for a moment, deciding to go back and call the other two over. As he turned around, a soft voice came from behind him, "Spent?"
He turned back in surprise. Amidst the vibrant colors of the wisteria, Riladis, the most beautiful woman in Movement Point, smiled flirtatiously, "Spent, are you here to pick me up?"
Spent almost fled in terror.
Damn it, he ran into this woman everywhere!
Spent didn't want to talk to her and decisively turned to leave. Riladis quickly took two steps to catch up, slightly shyly linking her arm through his, pouting playfully, "Spent, someone hacked my optical computer, boo-hoo, it's so hateful!"
Optical computer hacked?
Spent, recalling Ziye’s earlier mention of the three-strike system, had a rough idea of what happened. He didn't expose it, but a rare moment of mischievousness struck him; he wanted her to witness a certain historical moment.
Thus, he gave a rare reply, "Out with the old, in with the new."
Riladis stamped her foot in anger, "You don't understand, I have so much data on there, I can never get it back if it's lost!"
Spent smiled but said nothing.
Riladis was not only the most beautiful woman in Movement Point but also its biggest airhead; did someone like her even possess valuable data? He just wouldn't say it aloud. Riladis couldn't possibly fathom his thoughts and followed him back to his seat. She saw Ziye sitting there, and her face instantly turned green with rage, wishing she could kick Ziye right then and there. Just then, Aex turned his head, and she quickly suppressed her emotions, charmingly saying, "Hello, everyone. I just ran into Spent. He said you were all here, so I stopped by to see you."
Ziye blinked, surprised that the top beauty finally seemed to be able to distinguish between the twins.
But the very next second, Aex said, "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you just now."
Every time Riladis met the twins, she addressed them as 'Spent.' Hearing Aex say that, she assumed she had used the wrong name, awkwardly curtsying slightly, "Sorry, your brothers look too much alike."
Spent waved his hand, "It's fine, have a seat."
Riladis smoothed her skirt and sat down next to Ziye, turning her head to give Ziye a smile that seemed to hold deep meaning, "You look much better than you did this morning. Congratulations on overcoming your shadow."
Ziye had social anxiety; she genuinely didn't know how to deal with this type of woman. She remembered Old Dog once saying that hypocrites were the most terrifying. They could call someone 'brother' while reaching for a weapon behind their backs, and he taught her that to survive in space, one needed not only a poker face but also a fake smile.
That is, even if you hated someone to death, you had to smile at them in a way that revealed none of your hatred.
Ziye pulled at the corners of her lips, managing a strained "Heh," and couldn't force a smile any further. She quickly changed the subject, "Are you here alone?"
Riladis replied intimately, "I came with friends; it's fine, I'll just tell them later."
Ziye murmured "Oh," and again found nothing to say.
The twins had slightly better social skills than Ziye, but they simply didn't want to engage with Riladis. A second of silence passed between the four of them. Spent, considering she was the focus of the day's events, was about to say something when he looked up and was surprised to see the time display: six o'clock.
If there was one major difference between space and planets, it was the screens. In space, every station had numerous virtual light screens broadcasting the current station temperature, local customs, or market conditions.
Such screens existed on Kaga, and they existed in the Beautiful Flower House.
However, to avoid disturbing the guests, the sound on these screens was muted.
Six o'clock—this was the moment history would be made.
Because this was the time students usually ate, the screens were broadcasting student entertainment programs. A loli host was acting cute while recounting the fun and interesting things that happened during the day, accompanied by pictures and videos; it was quite cheerful.
Just after the usual reports, another young woman with a more generic look appeared and began speaking, "In this era where cell modification is casual, cosmetic surgery has become routine, and artificial beauties are everywhere. But today, a whistleblower claimed that Riladis, the foremost beauty of Movement Point Military, is an artificial beauty—this shocked me and all my friends!"
Riladis, the foremost beauty of Movement Point Military University, was artificial! As soon as the news broke, the entire Beautiful Flower House, and indeed all of Kaga, was stunned! RS
