Ziye felt a flicker of surprise. Those words—did they imply she was encroaching on the territory of a beauty? Ziye looked up at the twins, who remained silent, yet she distinctly felt the invisible barrier of cold radiating from them, causing the air pressure to drop steadily.
Ziye had always thought the twins enjoyed jesting, but she realized they were masters of the swift change of mood; when they chose to look severe, they did so instantly. It seemed a case of old enemies meeting, their eyes burning with resentment. A mischievous thought crossed her mind: should she stay and watch the spectacle, or make a swift retreat? As she hesitated, Aikes picked up a skewer of strange-smelling food from his tray and naturally extended it toward her lips: “Yaya, this is delicious, try it.”
Ziye was unaccustomed to such an intimate gesture, especially from Aikes, who had been teasing her only a moment before. She reached out, took the skewer, and bit down. A bizarre flavor exploded in her mouth, sharper than mustard, nearly making her spit it out right there. To avoid making a scene, she quickly covered her mouth, forcing herself to swallow. The moment it went down, tears welled up.
It wasn’t crying, but the strange taste that stung her eyes!
Spent smiled with disarming gentleness. “Why are you eating so awkwardly?” He reached for a napkin to gently wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes. The twins’ actions were so natural, so effortlessly protective, that it made Ziye seem like a precious treasure in their eyes. Ziye was first bewildered, then, catching the stunning beauty’s look of disbelief, she finally understood their intent.
They were provoking jealousy on her behalf!
These two brothers were truly wicked, acting their parts with such conviction!
A hundred imaginary curses roared through Ziye’s mind; she longed to flip the table right then and there. However, Ziye was always one to maintain her composure. With characteristic decisiveness, she deployed Silver Charm Star’s ultimate unique skill: the ‘Poker Face,’ affecting an air of complete nonchalance. “Thank you, elder brother.”
Spent paused his action, then rubbed her head instead. “Good girl.”
The beautiful woman was left entirely ignored, her face turning a shade of sickly green. With so many onlookers watching the unfolding drama, she couldn’t lose face, so she pressed on. “So, *** is really your sister?”
Ziye sighed inwardly. Her complexion and hair color were drastically different from Aikes and Spent’s; anyone with eyes could tell they were of different races, though the Ditar family was known to be an exception. The poor beauty latched onto her use of the word ‘brother’ immediately; it hadn't been easy for her to follow the conversation.
As a fellow woman, Ziye didn’t wish to make things harder for her, but as a guest, she couldn't interject. She discreetly kicked Aikes’s ankle.
Whether he misunderstood or not, Aikes stood up abruptly. “The food here isn't good. Let’s go somewhere else.”
Simultaneously, Spent stood, took Ziye’s hand, and walked away as if no one else existed.
As for the beautiful woman, she was utterly disregarded.
Ziye glanced back and saw the beauty staring at her with a look of venomous intent, causing a shiver to run down her spine. She had no prior quarrel with the woman, and if it hadn't been for that glare, she might have instinctively sided with the beauty, assuming Aikes and Spent were merely unappreciative of loveliness.
Seeing the harshness in her eyes now, Ziye sighed quietly and followed the twins’ pace.
“Aikes, stop!” The beauty’s roar echoed behind them; she had finally lost control!
Ziye halted her steps, and the twins stopped as well. They exchanged a glance, and Spent spoke with detached calm: “What do you want?”
Seeing him finally turn back, the beauty strutted over, sashaying her hips, and smiled coyly. “Little rascal, why are you ignoring me?”
Ziye was suddenly overcome with a wave of revulsion.
That was clearly Spent!
Aikes pulled her toward the next establishment. They sat down, ordered food, and began eating with an air of perfect nonchalance. Ziye couldn’t help but ask, “Is it really okay to do this?”
Aikes blinked. “Do what?”
Ziye shot him a look. “She was looking for you, but you let Spent handle it. Isn’t that a bit much?”
Aikes raised an eyebrow, surprise evident. “You can actually recognize us?”
Ziye nodded, stating seriously, “You always stand on the right, and Spent on the left. Even if you swap positions occasionally to confuse people, you can’t change your hand dominance. Plus, your eyes are slightly narrower, while his are rounder.”
Aikes reached out and ruffled her hair, remarking with emotion, “You are only the second person to ever distinguish between us brothers. The other is my old man.”
Ziye smiled faintly. “You are truly fortunate.”
Aikes pointed behind him with his thumb toward the beauty currently speaking with Spent. “She is the number one beauty at Dongdian Military University.”
Ziye hummed. “No wonder.”
Aikes continued, “She claims she likes me, but she has never once truly recognized me. I cannot accept a woman who can’t even identify me. However, when you separated me and Spent, I felt strangely hurt that you saw right through us…”
Ziye rolled her eyes and didn’t reply, reaching for a snack.
However, before the snack even reached her lips, the stunning beauty turned away heartbroken, clutching her face, and ran past them in tears.
Behind her, Spent innocently shrugged at them.
With the beauty crying and fleeing, the audience had their entertainment concluded. They began murmuring about what exactly had transpired, though with the beauty’s prior outburst, no one dared to discuss it loudly. Ziye shook her head thoughtfully; it must be incredibly difficult for any beauty hoping to pursue these two brothers.
Aikes and Spent remained unperturbed, quickly regaining their cheerful demeanors, accompanying Ziye for her meal before finally escorting her back to her residence.
Upon returning, Ziye saw the late hour and skipped checking the forums for assignments. Instead, she took out Little Sprout, re-examining the practical project she was due to present tomorrow, ensuring everything was perfect. After confirming its readiness, she showered and went to bed.
Ziye had a faint inkling of her supervisor’s subtle attitude, but she trusted her own abilities; as long as she demonstrated her strengths, surely some supervisor would be willing to accept her.
The next morning, Ziye woke early, went for a run, practiced her martial arts, and after warming up, she cheerfully set off carrying her mech’s spatial buckle and Little Sprout bouncing beside her.
Just outside the door, a hearty voice called out, “Morning, Mengyaya! Over here, over here.”
Ziye looked up to see the twins smiling at her.
They were dressed identically—simple, casual, yet alluring: crisp white tops paired with scarves blooming with spring colors, topped casually with an open jacket, hands tucked into their pockets. They stood one on the left and one on the right beside the airship, possessing a distinct air of white-knight charm.
Of course, Ziye knew that the white knight image was an illusion.
She had already learned firsthand just how much trouble these twins were capable of causing.
Arriving at the airship, Aikes and Spent spoke in unison, one on each side: “We’ve come to pick you up for your examination!”
Ziye paused. Surely they weren’t coming to take her to Dongdian Military University? Her test was at Lings! If they ruined this, she wouldn’t even get into a school.
The two seemed to read her mind, hopping onto the airship one after the other, front then back. “Get on, we’re going to Lings.”
Thank goodness, the outcome wasn't too disastrous. Ziye boarded the airship with relief. Just then, a magnetic levitation car pulled up alongside them. The three turned to see Chunniu.
Chunniu looked at Aikes with surprise, then at Spent, finally resting her gaze on Ziye.
Ziye quickly explained, “Chun—Li Chunyu, these two are my friends, students from Dongdian Military University—Aikes and Spent. Aikes and Spent, he is…”
Before she could finish, Aikes interjected, “I’ve met you before!”
Spent pointed at him and added, “The owner of the Platinum Tycoon, Li Chunyu!” The only mech of its kind in the entire world was in the hands of this gentleman, Li Chunyu.
Li Chunyu was momentarily stunned, about to speak, when the twins suddenly leaped out of the airship with a swoosh, pulling Li Chunyu by either arm. “Student Li Chunyu, we have admired your Platinum Tycoon for a long time. Could we possibly have a look?”
Ziye was initially startled by their abrupt action, but hearing their words, she couldn’t help but laugh. The twins truly lived and breathed mechs.
They had asked her for her mech in the same way last time on Planet Qila.
Li Chunyu was almost overwhelmed by their enthusiasm, but once he recovered, he smiled. “Certainly. My mech is currently with the Legion. I’ll remember to bring it next time I return.”
Aikes touched his forehead. “The Legion? You’re from that… that…” He recognized the name but couldn't recall it instantly.
Li Chunyu supplied the connection. “The Huaxia Legion.”
Spent clapped his hands. “Right! That legendary Huaxia Legion!”
When Li Chunyu won the top prize in the mech competition, the Interstellar Federation, the great aristocratic families, and numerous Legions all extended olive branches. But Li Chunyu refused them all, standing on the stage with supreme confidence and composure, stating, “I belong to the Huaxia Legion, and I will never leave it in this life!”
It was precisely this declaration that earned Aikes and Spent’s profound respect for Li Chunyu.
In space, there were countless Legions and powers. Many people jumped from one employer to another, from the East family to the West family, solely for better benefits. Many participated in competitions only to secure invitations from major powers and conglomerates, striving for greater wealth and influence. Yet, Li Chunyu remained steadfast as bedrock, his resolve commanding admiration.
Seeing them interacting so pleasantly, Ziye finally let down her guard.
If they treated Li Chunyu the way they treated the number one beauty from Dongdian Military University last night, this would become very difficult for me.
With their destination now unified, Li Chunyu simply left his maglev car with Ziye and boarded the airship. They took the airship track directly to the landing platform on the top floor of the Practical Exhibition Building.
It was peak interview time. The landing platform was bustling with activity—airships and maglev cars coming and going, creating a lively scene. Some students arrived alone; others were accompanied by entire families. Emotions ran high, with joy and frustration visible on every face.
Standing on the platform, one could take in most of the space station’s scenery. Ziye looked down, noting that the surrounding candidates were all looking at her.
It wasn't surprising. Her group of four was conspicuous. Or rather, the twins, always dressed identically, were an unavoidable spectacle wherever they went, not to mention the presence of Lings University’s ambassador of image, the young genius Li Chunyu.
Poor Ziye, before even enrolling, had already managed to accumulate animosity.
