The words from Kuang Feifan made Xu Hui freeze, unsure of what he meant. But upon seeing him remove the prayer beads from his wrist, he slapped his forehead. "Exhausted to death, and you don't even have this common sense?"

Kuang Feifan knew Xu Hui would blather, so he bothered not to reply. To be safe, he steeled his heart, bit his tongue, and spat out a mouthful of blood upwards.

"Biting your tongue so much really hurts…" he said, sucking in a sharp breath, as he walked toward the headless zombie that was flailing about wildly.

As the blood landed on the prayer beads, they emitted a soft white light, not blinding in the least. When Kuang Feifan carefully pressed the beads onto the zombie's back, the light suddenly intensified. The zombie's body writhed more violently, convulsing and shaking as if electrocuted.

What surprised Kuang Feifan, however, was that even as the light from the beads gradually dimmed, the headless zombie was still twitching left and right, showing no sign of being dead.

The two of them couldn't help but feel a chill of horror. Kuang Feifan straightened up in disbelief, just as the zombie’s wildly swinging arm swept toward his calf. The steel-hook-like nails were on the verge of snagging his ankle.

Fortunately, Xu Hui noticed the situation in time, reached out, grabbed Kuang Feifan’s arm, and yanked him sharply away from the zombie’s striking range, thus preventing him from being accidentally harmed by the obstinately unkillable corpse.

"Damn it…" Kuang Feifan couldn't help but kick the wall in the corridor to vent his frustration.

Xu Hui stared at the extremely resilient zombie, and a sudden idea flashed through his mind. He shouted, "Quick, call and ask!"

Kuang Feifan instinctively slapped his thigh: "Idiot."

He pulled out his phone. Fortunately, there was no strange interference nearby, and the signal was still strong. He dialed Bai Ru’s number.

"Is something wrong?" Bai Ru's voice was tense.

"A bit of trouble…" Kuang Feifan scratched his scalp while pacing the corridor, explaining the encounter with the zombie.

Hearing that the zombie’s head had been smashed off yet its body could still move, and wasn't even affected by the prayer beads after he'd spat blood on them, Bai Ru was also quite surprised. She put the call on speakerphone and simultaneously called Gu Yi over.

"It seems this isn't an ordinary zombie," Gu Yi blurted out after hearing the situation.

Kuang Feifan also put his phone on speaker.

"What do you mean?" Xu Hui interjected.

"If a normal zombie's head is smashed, it should definitely be done for. The one you've encountered can still move, which suggests there is something inside its body supporting its actions," Gu Yi analyzed.

"Inside its body?" Kuang Feifan glanced at the corpse.

Gu Yi affirmed with an "Mm," saying, "There are many types of corpse-controlling sorcery, and they vary by region. It looks like you've run into an anomaly. I should have gone with you; it would have been a good chance to study it."

Kuang Feifan snorted, "Spare me the research talk. This thing is still moving, and it’s not even afraid of the prayer beads I blessed with my blood. Tell me, what should I do? We can't just leave this thing thrashing around here."

Gu Yi thought for a moment. "It’s likely that your blood’s power wasn't enough. Generally speaking, virgin’s blood or black dog's blood have some effect. Another method is to secure the body, then cut it open to remove whatever is controlling it."

Xu Hui interrupted Gu Yi dryly, "Alright, those methods don't seem very feasible right now."

Bai Ru quietly asked Gu Yi, "Would burning it work?"

Gu Yi considered it. "Do you have gasoline? Pour it on and set it alight. Make sure to burn it completely, preferably to ash."

Kuang Feifan and Xu Hui pondered it. Gasoline seemed the most plausible option. Xu Hui slapped Kuang Feifan’s shoulder. "I'll go get the gasoline from the car. You keep watch and don't let that thing run off again."

He wasn't speaking idly; even though the headless zombie’s spine had been smashed, it had managed to drag itself a small distance across the floor in the time it took.

Kuang Feifan nodded. He had the prayer beads. Although they couldn't stop the zombie, they could still suppress it somewhat. When he pressed them down earlier, a black mark had been seared onto the zombie’s back, as if scorching its skin surface.

However, using the beads to eliminate it wasn't highly likely. Kuang Feifan couldn't imagine how many mouthfuls of blood it would take to completely char this zombie; using gasoline seemed more realistic.

Xu Hui said goodbye and rushed out, while Kuang Feifan kept his eyes on the zombie and maintained his call with Bai Ru.

"You were too careless. Next time you go out, you should bring something for self-defense," Bai Ru chided, mixing complaint with caution.

Kuang Feifan gave a wry smile. "I hadn't anticipated it. I thought we wouldn't need such things just to find someone. Who knew someone else would have acted before us."

Speaking of which, Bai Ru’s heart stirred. "I have a strange feeling this isn't a simple matter."

Kuang Feifan had already considered this, and now he voiced his analysis.

"It isn't simple. I found a small notebook in the place where he was staying; it contains his last words. Clearly, he knew this day would come eventually. I only skimmed the contents; we can study it closely together when we get back. However, it mentioned some things about that small building, and his current death is also related to the evil spirits in that building."

Bai Ru sounded uncertain. "If it’s truly connected to that place, you should check if he has a 'mark' on him. Because if he doesn't, it’s hard to believe the ghosts from that small building could find him so far away."

"Uh…" Kuang Feifan glanced at the tirelessly moving zombie and managed a strained smile. "You want me to go over and examine his body now? That’s a bit…"

Bai Ru also felt it was inappropriate and quickly said, "Forget it, I was just saying. Safety first."

Kuang Feifan thought for a moment. "Let's wait for Xu Hui to get back before discussing that. By the way, I find it strange. I managed to tear it into pieces with the prayer beads at the start, so how could it still get up and cause trouble?"

Bai Ru wasn't entirely clear on this. Gu Yi took over the conversation from the side. "We can only guess. It's very likely connected to the medium controlling the corpse inside. That initial state was due to the influence of the spiritual energy within the prayer beads, which temporarily sealed the medium's ability. However, although the effect was limited, it's even possible that the medium could absorb and convert the spiritual energy contained in the seal…"

At this point, Gu Yi suddenly paused, lost in thought.

When there was silence from the other end for a long time, Kuang Feifan couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"

Bai Ru also asked curiously, "Did you think of something?"

After a while, Gu Yi hesitantly said, "I think there's something odd here. We have too little data right now; I don't want to speculate recklessly, or it will easily lead us down the wrong path. Didn't you say the man left a will? Look through it carefully later. Also, I am contacting a buddy of mine who understands various dark arts; some things can only be clarified by asking him."

It was rare to see Gu Yi so uncertain. Bai Ru was somewhat surprised. Although Kuang Feifan didn't know him deeply, hearing him speak so solemnly, he also felt guessing aimlessly was unproductive, so he decided to set that line of inquiry aside for the moment.

Silence reigned over the phone call for a moment. Just then, Kuang Feifan suddenly realized something unusual in the room—it had gone quiet.

He instinctively fixed his gaze on the zombie. He had been so preoccupied listening to Bai Ru and the others that he had forgotten to monitor the corpse. Now, when he looked, he realized the constantly flailing zombie was lying motionless on the ground.
