The beautiful girl’s delicate face was curved in a smile as she recounted a month of perilous experiences with remarkable casualness. “I eventually cut my way through until I reached a shrine. Inside, I found countless Electromagnetic Beasts; every single one garrisoned there bore the character for ‘Electricity’ etched onto its forehead!”
“I shattered six shrines in succession, slaying hundreds of Electromagnetic Beasts. After surveying the surroundings and seeing no more lurking beasts, I turned back. On the way, I encountered another shrine, which I dispatched casually. Suddenly, I felt a sky-piercing crimson light emanating from within. Before I could finish them all off, I sped away.” Bai Yijun smiled sweetly. “Seeing that you are unharmed brings me peace of mind.”
Ye Chen was deeply moved. Clutching her soft, small hand, he sat down on the comfortable sofa and murmured, “You have had a difficult time these past days.”
Bai Yijun’s cheeks flushed slightly. “It was nothing, merely a small effort.”
Ye Chen couldn't resist pulling her into an embrace, feeling the full, soft curves of her body against his chest, inhaling the faint, ethereal fragrance of her hair near his nose—a surge of emotion swept through him.
They held the embrace for a long time before separating. Ye Chen gazed at the greyish-white currents flowing within the Rune Space, muttering, “A radius of ninety million kilometers. My speed was one billion kilometers per second before; I wonder what it can reach now.” Immediately, he took Bai Yijun’s hand. “Come with me.”
Bai Yijun asked no questions, obediently following him into the Rune Ship’s training chamber. Ye Chen walked to the adjacent speed testing room, donned the testing helmet, and felt a tingling numbness at his temples, immediately followed by his consciousness transporting to a vast, virtual expanse.
“Speed test countdown…”
“Begin!”
The instant the cold system voice sounded, Ye Chen’s figure shot out like an arrow released from a bowstring. His eyes flickered with an eerie blend of gold and black light, numerous civilization symbols danced across his forehead, and he was wreathed in waves of epic scripture, like an unparalleled overlord, a sage surpassing all ages—in a single step, he appeared a hundred miles distant.
“I say, I possess peerless speed in this world, and thus I surpass Chen.”
Ye Chen muttered under his breath, his eyes fixed dead ahead. His body left ripples of dark traces in space. If his internal genes hadn't reached 3,000 times that of a normal human, his flesh and bone might have been violently ripped apart, his surging blood and vital energy overloading his heart to the point of exploding and dying.
One second fixed!
Whoosh!
Ye Chen’s figure halted abruptly, standing motionless like a javelin planted in the ground. It seemed he had always been standing there; only after he stood still for a few seconds did the sound of rushing wind arrive behind him.
“Exit.” Chen called, withdrawing from the virtual testing chamber. He checked the screen, which displayed: 1813.2 km/s!
Ye Chen couldn't help but brighten his eyes.
Over eighteen hundred kilometers per second!
“I never expected that gathering eighteen Civilization Talents would increase my speed to such a terrifying degree. I haven’t even activated Blood God Mode yet; if I did, my speed might surge several levels, possibly reaching tens of thousands of kilometers per second!” Ye Chen stepped out of the testing chamber, murmuring to himself.
Bai Yijun nodded slightly. She knew that in terms of sheer power, Blood God Mode could multiply strength greatly, but applying it to speed was different. The faster one traveled per second, the more the environmental factors—wind direction, resistance, gravity, and momentum—would surge. It was definitely not as simple as one plus one equals two.
“Ninety million kilometers. At my speed, with Blood God Mode activated, it would only take 9,000 seconds! That’s two and a half hours!” Ye Chen mused internally. He glanced at Bai Yijun; their minds connected, and they walked directly out of the Rune Space onto the open ground.
“I need to test how much life force I consume per second while inside the Electromagnetic Storm Zone,” Ye Chen said softly to Bai Yijun.
Bai Yijun smiled sweetly. “Be careful of the Electromagnetic Beasts inside. Don't go too deep.”
“Understood!” Ye Chen nodded, then sprang forth, hurtling toward the Electromagnetic Storm Zone. As far as the eye could see, purple lightning filled the sky, wrapping around him as if he had plunged into a thicket of thorns. His bones and flesh felt a sensation of being pierced, and his forehead and chest were filled with agonizing pain.
Ye Chen gritted his teeth. He didn't need to open his eyes to know that chunks of his flesh were rapidly necrotizing, turning into foul pus that dripped away. He quickly mobilized the life force within him, burning it furiously, and immediately discovered that his life force was pouring out like a burst dam.
Ye Chen deployed his Domain Space and found that within this Electromagnetic Storm Zone, the domain could only extend to a range of 2,000 meters. In the outside world, with his level of mental cultivation, he could easily extend it across several cities.
The electromagnetic waves within the storm zone danced wantonly within his domain space, interfering with the spatial flow of the domain, making teleportation impossible.
Ye Chen sprinted for about 10 seconds, without using Blood God Mode, traveling only tens of thousands of kilometers. He noticed the intensity of the electromagnetic waves fluctuated slightly but did not change significantly. Just as he prepared to turn back, he suddenly sensed a familiar feeling originating from the east. This feeling was intermittent, yet it hadn't been completely shattered by the electromagnetic waves, drifting into Ye Chen’s consciousness.
“What is that?” Ye Chen frowned, glancing toward the east. His intuition told him there might be some external treasure there, but being engulfed by electromagnetic waves currently, he realized there was ‘no time to investigate.’ He decisively turned back, refusing to yield to greed.
Returning to the clearing where Bai Yijun waited, Ye Chen immediately gathered the water elements from the air to wash the bloodstains from his body the moment he stabilized. He then deactivated the eighteen Civilization Talents within him and sat on the ground, panting heavily with exhaustion.
“How are you?”
Bai Yijun’s expression was one of deep concern.
Ye Chen shook his head, pondered for a moment, and stated, “In this Electromagnetic Storm Zone, my life force consumes 100,000 years per second. Traveling a distance of 90 million kilometers is feasible.”
Bai Yijun smiled sweetly. “That is good then.”
Ye Chen looked at her and chuckled lightly, “You don't seem overly thrilled.”
“I wouldn’t be,” Bai Yijun pursed her lips and smiled. “I am actually quite happy inside, but I already knew you could get out, so I wasn't overly agitated.”
“Oh?” Ye Chen asked with interest. “How could you have known I could get out?”
Bai Yijun smiled sweetly. “There is no one in this world with a life force as immense as yours. Your physical body can store hundreds of trillions of years of life. Even peak God Emperors, or experts who surpass the God Emperor level, consider one hundred million years of lifespan to be the absolute limit!”
“A lifespan of one hundred million years. Trapped in this ninety-million-kilometer Electromagnetic Storm Zone, survival would be impossible. Even with your 3,000-fold gene amplification leading to a consumption of 100,000 years per second, others typically have only 1,000-fold amplification, or perhaps seven or eight hundred times. Even those with exceptional talent would at most reach 2,000 times! In that scenario, they could only last 1,000 seconds—which is fifteen minutes.”
“And in terms of speed, they would never be as fast as you. Teleportation isn't an option here. Relying only on physical speed, they might reach 1,000 kilometers per second at their absolute limit. You, however, traveling at tens of thousands of kilometers per second with Blood God Mode activated, still need two and a half hours to traverse it, let alone them.”
“Therefore, they have no path to survival in there, but you do.”
Bai Yijun narrated fluidly, explaining everything clearly. She glanced at Ye Chen and smiled, “Moreover, you told me about your three Superman Modes. That third one, the Heavenly Beast Superman Mode, allows you to merge with heaven and earth, reaching 10,000 kilometers per teleportation! With your current strength, that teleportation distance should increase; reaching one hundred thousand kilometers per second should be no problem. You would only need a hundred or so teleports to escape.”
Ye Chen looked at her approvingly. “That is well said. However, the Heavenly Beast Superman Mode cannot be used here. While the fifth stage of Superman Mode appears to be a 100% refinement of the Superman Gene, true integration is only achieved upon closing a mere 0.01% gap.”
“The Heavenly Beast, being a top-tier creature of the ancient world, is hailed as a Spatial Divine Beast—capable of traversing heaven and earth, moving through ages past and present, omnipotent! But because I failed to refine that final 0.01%, I have not mastered the Heavenly Beast's supreme secret technique. In this Electromagnetic Storm Zone, I cannot utilize the Heavenly Beast gene. Otherwise, the entire surrounding hundred thousand kilometers would be my body, allowing me to appear anywhere at will. This would mean the area I am radiated by electromagnetic waves would cover a hundred thousand kilometers—the life force consumed, even for me, would be difficult to bear!”
Bai Yijun suddenly understood. “So that’s how it is.”
Ye Chen smiled, but then his heart stirred as he recalled the sight of the little white wolf devouring the Electromagnetic Beasts. His eyes fixed intently on the Electromagnetic Storm Zone not far away, and the blood within him began to boil.
“That little white wolf has a mysterious origin; it took away the little white rabbit and vanished. This creature fears no electromagnetic waves and feeds on Electromagnetic Beasts. If I choose it as my fourth Genetically Modified Beast, traversing this Electromagnetic Storm Zone would be as easy as a leisurely stroll!”
Thinking of this, Ye Chen immediately stood up and rapidly opened the Rune Space. Bai Yijun nearby asked in surprise, “What is it?”
Ye Chen said quickly, “Come in first, I have good news.”
Bai Yijun, though confused, asked no further questions and hurried into the Rune Space. After she entered, Ye Chen slipped in after her, closed the space, and upon entering the main hall called out, “Old Man, come out!”
The old man in the green talisman was taking a small drink. Hearing the urgent summons, he rushed out in a panic. “What happened?” he couldn't help but ask.
Ye Chen waved his hand. “Quickly extract the genes from this.” He flipped his hand, taking out the skin flap of the little white wolf, and handed it solemnly to the old man in the green talisman.
The old man in the green talisman looked at the small piece of skin with smooth white fur before him. Seeing it contained within a green bottle, automatically suspended in the air and emitting a faint glow, with the bloodstains still visibly writhing—looking as if it had just been flayed from a fierce beast and the blood was still wet—he knew this was no ordinary beast’s skin. He accepted it solemnly, glanced at Ye Chen, intending to say something, but seeing Ye Chen wave him away impatiently, he merely pouted, grumbled softly, and turned back into the laboratory.
