The Medical School was closer to the East Gate, but Zhang Yang first dropped Mi Xue off at the Mathematics Department before returning to the Medical School.

As he walked with Mi Xue to the front of the academic building, countless envious eyes fixed on Zhang Yang. Mi Xue was the celebrated beauty of the Mathematics Department, someone many had designs on; seeing a young man escort her onto campus naturally ignited intense jealousy.

Many wished they could replace Zhang Yang and stand right beside Mi Xue.

“You don’t need to walk me any further, I can manage on my own!”

At the entrance, Mi Xue said softly, head bowed. Luckily, Zhang Yang’s hearing was excellent, otherwise, he might not have caught her words at all.

“Alright then, but you must contact me immediately if anything happens, you remember that!”

Zhang Yang glanced up, then gently reminded her. What occupied his mind, naturally, was that damned trigger quest.

Mi Xue was unaware of this. Zhang Yang’s words caused her cheeks to flush again. She interpreted them as his concern, his care, which brought a wave of sweetness to her heart.

A delicate sweetness filled her chest, and Mi Xue’s heart began to race even faster; suddenly, she felt a pang of reluctance to see Zhang Yang leave.

“Remember what I said, I’m heading off now!”

Zhang Yang repeated the instruction, then promptly turned and left. Watching his receding figure, a sliver of melancholy settled over Mi Xue.

Only when Zhang Yang rounded the corner and his silhouette vanished did Mi Xue flash a sweet smile and quickly turn back toward her classroom. Soon enough, a pack of young males brimming with overactive adolescent hormones began scheming ways to approach her. Fortunately, she was already experienced in handling such matters and slowly sent them all packing.

Time flew by quickly, and the day’s classes soon concluded.

Zhang Yang was adapting more and more to his current life and growing to love it. One only appreciates things once they are lost; returning to campus made him realize how much of his original college life he had wasted.

Now, he almost wished he could start over from his freshman year.

That day, Mi Xue spent all her free time with Zhang Yang. Hu Xin, Xiao Dai, Gu Cheng, and Nannan were also present. Following the events of the past few days, the bond between the five of them had grown increasingly strong.

In the afternoon, Mi Xue and Gu Cheng’s student council application forms landed on Zhou Yichen’s desk. Seeing Mi Xue’s application, Zhou Yichen paused momentarily before his expression twisted into anger.

Zhou Yichen had previously invited Mi Xue to join the student council, but she had refused.

For him, the esteemed President, to personally extend an invitation only to be rebuffed, and yet Zhang Yang, merely the struggling head of the External Relations Department, managed to successfully invite Mi Xue—this contrast was something he found utterly unacceptable.

This realization intensified his existing resentment.

Despite his grievances, Zhou Yichen wouldn’t stoop to making trouble for Zhang Yang over such a minor issue. Mi Xue and Gu Cheng’s applications were approved without incident. Zhang Yang’s authority to recruit members had already passed in a previous meeting; to block something already decided would only make Zhou Yichen appear petty and risk provoking a backlash from Zhang Yang.

Moreover, going back on one’s word was a cardinal sin for a leader, costing immense goodwill.

Within a day, Mi Xue and Gu Cheng successfully joined the Student Council, becoming members of the External Relations Department. Though the department was somewhat overlooked, it possessed its own dedicated office within the council due to the unique nature of their work.

During lunch break while tidying up the office, Mi Xue and Gu Cheng were both buzzing with excitement and delight.

Gu Cheng was thrilled to have successfully joined the student council, while Mi Xue was purely happy to have more opportunities to be with Zhang Yang. Their reasons differed, but their moods were equally excellent.

After touring the student council offices, Zhang Yang led Mi Xue and Gu Cheng away. He held little genuine interest in the council; were it not for the inherent inclination of this body he currently inhabited, he wouldn’t have stayed at all.

“Zhang Yang!”

As soon as they left the council building, several people approached excitedly. Leading the group was Wang Guohai, the Director of Gynecology at Changjing Third Hospital.

After the Dean’s signature, the special recruitment paperwork still needed to pass through a few other departments. Wang Guohai had managed to finalize everything by that morning, pushing through at his fastest pace. Immediately after, disregarding the lunch hour, he grabbed a quick bite and headed straight for Changjing University.

Zhang Yang’s performance that day, coupled with Wu Youdao’s continuous praise, made him eager to secure Zhang Yang into the hospital immediately.

“Doctor Wang, how did you know I was here?”

Zhang Yang frowned slightly, but before he finished speaking, he understood.

When he had left the hospital, he had certainly wanted to keep his identity hidden from the hospital staff—first, because he had just returned from transmigration, and second, because he didn't want too much attention drawn to himself.

Unfortunately, some things were beyond his control. Even though he hadn't revealed his identity, the hospital had managed to track him down. At this moment, he thought of Sister Zhou; it was indeed his own oversight.

With Sister Zhou involved, it was easy for them to uncover his identity.

“Let’s not discuss that right now. I have some wonderful news for you, but this isn’t the place. Let’s go sit over there and talk!”

Wang Guohai spoke with fervor, reaching out to take Zhang Yang’s arm and steering him toward an outdoor cafe area on campus.

Zhang Yang intended to refuse, but Wang Guohai was too enthusiastic, already gripping his arm, leaving Zhang Yang no choice but to follow him toward the cafe.

Mi Xue and Gu Cheng exchanged a glance and followed along.

What was called a cafe was actually open-air, with several tables set outside under sun umbrellas. Several tables were occupied; only one was empty. Wang Guohai pulled Zhang Yang down to sit there.

Accompanying Wang Guohai were two other individuals, both ordinary temporary staff from the Third Hospital, observing Zhang Yang with curiosity.

One of them occasionally flashed a look of jealousy. They all knew about Zhang Yang’s special recruitment into the hospital—a current student without even a physician’s license being specially recruited—if Wang Guohai hadn’t personally guided them through the process, they likely wouldn’t have believed it.

“Doctor Wang, what is it you wanted to tell me?”

After signaling Gu Cheng and Mi Xue to sit down, Zhang Yang asked quietly. The two young men trailing Wang Guohai went off to buy drinks; there was no place for them to sit here; they were just running errands.

“Good. I’ll tell you now, but don’t be too shocked, and don’t get overly excited!”

Wang Guohai laughed heartily. Securing this special recruitment slot hadn't been easy. Since Zhang Yang lacked a physician’s license, he could only be specially recruited as an intern. Recruiting a single intern this way was unprecedented at Changjing Third Hospital.

It might even be the first case in Changjing, perhaps even the entire province or nation.

Zhang Yang nodded lightly, appearing very composed. This attitude slightly dampened Wang Guohai’s enthusiasm, but the moment he remembered Zhang Yang was still in the dark, he felt reassured, imagining how surprised Zhang Yang would be when he heard the news.

Clearing his throat slightly, Wang Guohai began slowly, “Student Zhang Yang, after significant deliberation by our hospital’s Party Committee, we have decided to grant you a special recruitment spot, allowing you to join our hospital directly as an intern. Once your internship concludes, you will become a formal physician at our hospital!”

As Wang Guohai spoke, he kept watch on Zhang Yang, eager to see the look of sheer surprise on his face.

Regrettably, he was disappointed this time. After hearing the news, Zhang Yang didn’t look surprised at all; instead, his brow furrowed tightly, looking almost reluctant.
