"Absolutely nothing will occur that could affect your handsome image."
The staff finally lost their patience. Just as Lin Liqiang was about to ask the same question for the seventh time, one of them preempted him with an answer.
If it weren't for the fact that Lin Liqiang possessed the strength of a Martial Arts Master, making it impossible to knock him out with a single punch, these staff members would have already tried clocking him a couple of times or using a hammer just to silence the noisy fellow and bring some quiet to the laboratory.
"Beautiful lady, what I mean is, once my surgery is done, are you interested in finding a quiet, romantic spot for a drink, where we can discuss our life goals, and perhaps even delve into the sacred mysteries of human procreation?"
"Handsome, you don't look like much. I wonder if you have a sister? Is your sister as beautiful as you? Could you introduce me? I have excellent character, you know."
The staff members exchanged looks of profound doubt, wondering if this Si Fang was truly a prodigy in the field of biology.
The surgery wasn't what Qin Fen had imagined—a group of science geeks wielding chainsaws, opening up the heads of Lin Liqiang and Inzarota, fiddling around inside, resulting in pools of blood flowing everywhere.
The entire procedure used barely any scalpels. Wen Han didn't open Lin Liqiang's skull; instead, the staff produced strange tubes, each tipped with a minuscule needle. Soon, Lin Liqiang's head was covered in these tubes, the external ends of which were inserted into the brain, which was suspended in nutrient fluid.
Strange fluid flowed slowly through the transparent tubes into Lin Liqiang's brain. For a moment, Qin Fen couldn't distinguish if it was biological fluid or merely data energy. The entire scene progressed rapidly under an eerie atmosphere.
The staff watched the dazzling digital displays on the screens with meticulous focus, occasionally making manual adjustments to strange buttons. This was a surgery that truly defied life and death, yet sweat constantly beaded on the foreheads of every staff member.
Unless one was a true specialist, it was impossible to grasp the terrifying nature of the situation.
More than ten hours passed. The heavy iron door opened again. Yang Lie and the others appeared, dressed in immaculate military uniforms. The smiles on their faces stiffened the moment they saw Lin Liqiang and Inzarota.
"This is..."
Yang Lie looked at Qin Fen in confusion. The brain is the most mysterious place in the human body. Even for the most powerful martial artists, those with highly integrated Bio-Beast strength, if their head or heart was shattered, only death awaited them.
Qin Fen pulled up the mental projection footage he had previously reviewed. His non-professional explanation was unlikely to be clearer than the recorded demonstration.
Brooks and the others looked on, traces of bewilderment coloring their faces. It seemed they, too, struggled to accept the current extent of technological advancement.
In the current Federation, those standing at the very apex of society were not politicians or the military, but the overwhelmingly powerful Guided Martial Artists.
This societal reality meant that Brooks and the others were entirely focused on the path of martial arts, leaving no room for distraction. Although they all possessed decent foundational attainment, they remained far removed from delving into other specialized fields.
The brain was still connected to Lin Liqiang. The group watched the wall projection with interest, where the most notable creatures from Pandora Space were being replayed repeatedly.
Yaglu, the subordinate of the Queen Bee—this was the name the creature gave itself. To humans, it was a perfect fusion of human virtues and spider traits. It possessed a robust physique, though without the potbelly of a typical spider.
Yaglu walked upright like a human. It had an eye at both the front and back of its head, and two strong arms sprouted from its back, the palms capable of shooting web-like projectiles. Its ribcage could deploy bony spikes, firing them with a machine-gun-like rate, and its mouth bore two teeth as hard as rock.
Human powerhouses estimated that Yaglu, one of this rare species, possessed at least a strength level equivalent to seventeen stars. It might lack the human Ren-Gang or Di-Gang energy, but its incredibly robust and durable body largely compensated for the disadvantage of not mastering True Qi to form Gang Qi.
The Sudum was another creature among the host produced by the Queen Bee that stood out as exceptionally bizarre.
Standing three meters tall, its body was as strong as a small mobile armor unit, resembling the colossal and mighty Pangu from Eastern mythology who separated heaven and earth. Its bronze-colored skin shimmered with a genuine metallic luster. Its long black hair, when hardened, could easily pierce several feet of thick steel plate.
Most surprisingly, this creature, the Sudum, which shared about seventy percent of its appearance with humans, possessed a unique ability: gravity control!
Its origin was also peculiar. After the Queen Bee consumed several humans, then swallowed a porcupine-like monster, it shockingly devoured an entire human-sized gravity manipulation device!
That device had originally been a piece of special equipment left by the garrison forces for their daily physical training. No one expected that after being swallowed by the Queen Bee, it would give rise to several creatures possessing this bizarre capability.
The strength levels of these four Sudums varied, as did the intensity of their gravity control. Perhaps because the Queen Bee had consumed so many humans, it even learned the ability to rank its offspring. These four children were marked on their foreheads with a ranking number according to their strength: 1, 2, 3, 4.
True to the Queen Bee's nature, these four Sudums, even after later mastering human cultivation techniques like Kongli (Void Force), were ranked exactly as they were: the number one was the strongest, and number four was the weakest.
Twenty times gravity! After constant refinement and testing by the Genesis Society, it was calculated that the potential of this monster could absolutely contend with top-tier eighteen-star human experts. Coupled with its twenty-times gravity ability, it could make even a nineteen-star Di-Gang expert sweat under pressure.
Number four, possessing only a weak five-times gravity ability, was only at the peak of sixteen-star strength. Even so, if it encountered a top-tier sixteen-star martial artist and suddenly unleashed five times gravity at a critical moment, it would be enough to completely reverse the situation and secure victory.
After missing the initial opportunity for technological societal development, the Queen Bee clan had fully transitioned into physical evolution. They spawned all sorts of bizarre creatures with various strange, useful, or useless abilities.
Sometimes, when one egg cracked open, it didn't yield just one creature, but hundreds or even thousands. These beings were only the size of a human thumb, possessed wings allowing them to fly at high altitudes, and could spew intensely corrosive liquid acid from their mouths. A pair of solid teeth could easily bite through small objects.
When hundreds upon hundreds of these creatures gathered, they became a frenzied horde of bandits. Everything in their path, even rocks, would be chewed into dust and vanish.
The surgery finally concluded after a full twenty-four hours. The brain, previously submerged in liquid suspension, appeared slightly smaller than before, and its voice sounded somewhat weak. Several staff members carefully carried it back to its original location.
"Young man, this surgery was fundamentally successful."
The voice of the brain carried a hint of exhaustion. The recent procedure had evidently caused it considerable damage and depletion.
"'Fundamentally'?" Qin Fen disliked that word. Even though he was unfamiliar with cutting-edge science, he understood the vast difference between "fundamentally" and "completely."
The more high-level the existence, the greater the gulf between "fundamentally" and "completely." When dealing with the profound mystery of integrating a Neural Net, something incomprehensible to ordinary people, even a slight deviation could lead to entirely different outcomes.
"Young man, don't rush," the brain said, laden with indescribable fatigue. "The reason I say 'fundamentally' is because I cannot confirm whether they will successfully manifest spiritual power following this Neural Net integration. In terms of knowledge inheritance and Seal Imprinting, that part was flawless, without any error."
On the operating table, Lin Liqiang suddenly opened his eyes, immediately activating his Bio-Beast transformation. The medicines provided by the Genesis Society could heal the wounds on the skull post-surgery, but recovery was far too slow compared to the speed offered by Bio-Beast integration.
Inzarota unusually raised both hands above his head, stretching languidly. He gently twisted his waist and hips, blinking hard.
"Old Yin, how do you feel?" Lin Liqiang jumped off the operating table, rotating his neck. "I thought I'd go insane. Surprisingly, this feeling is quite good."
"Mmm," Inzarota nodded, then looked toward the brain. "The experiment."
"Experiment?" The brain seemed slightly confused by Inzarota's question. "What experiment?"
"The spiritual power experiment you mentioned."
Qin Fen interjected, "Old Yin means he feels good and wants to immediately conduct the spiritual power experiment."
The brain fell silent. The staff members also watched Qin Fen in stunned silence. You translate Inzarota's two words into all that? Is that real or not?
"As expected of Old Yin's number one confidant!" Lin Liqiang leaned in conspiratorially towards the brain, alongside Qin Fen and Inzarota. "Don't worry about us. We will never misinterpret Old Yin's words. Even if we accidentally translate them wrong someday, Old Yin will certainly forgive us."
"Is that so?" The brain gave an immediate command. "Bring in ten combat robots."
The heavy iron doors opened, closed, opened again, and closed again as the staff wheeled in a batch of combat robots that experts dismissed as 'useless junk.'
"How to detect spiritual power, whether one possesses it, and how to use it—you both have that information in your brains," the brain stated, a hint of anticipation in its voice. "So, Inzarota, if you feel you possess spiritual power, try to control one combat robot using the method we predicted. Don't force it. Based on our projections, someone newly possessing spiritual power might not have the capacity to fully control a standard combat robot. In the corner of the cargo cart, there are also several practice robots, about half a foot tall; you can try those too."
In the cold room, twenty crimson beams suddenly erupted! The eyes of the ten combat robots resting on the cart flashed simultaneously. They collectively raised their right arms, which had been modified into six-barreled Gatling Vulcan cannons, and unleashed an ear-splitting metallic roar aimed at Du Peng.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The ten six-barreled Gatlings spewed out dazzling streams of fire. The screen-filling barrage of metal bullets rained down, clanging loudly on the floor. The torrent of metal, capable of tearing anything apart, whistled and tore through the air, surging towards Du Peng.
The staff members didn't have time to scream. Du Peng's hands moved strangely across his chest. The overwhelming hail of metal bullets stopped before him, and then, abruptly, they all split perfectly in half, as if sliced down the middle by some precise instrument. The flat surface was so polished it could reflect a person's image.
Clang! Clang! Clang! The sound of falling bullets never ceased. The ten combat robots had already been mobilized. They formed various tactical cover patterns, using crossfire from different directions to continuously pour fire onto Du Peng.
The battle started fast and ended just as quickly. At a firing rate of six thousand rounds per minute, for these combat robots only equipped with a thousand rounds of ammunition in their small bodies, the onslaught lasted only ten seconds.
The acrid smell of gunpowder filled the cold room. The room's temperature had sharply risen following the roar of the six-barreled Gatlings.
Several research specialists choked on the smoke, some even shedding tears from the fumes. Many resorted to covering their noses and mouths with their hands, all staring in astonishment at Inzarota, who was simultaneously commanding ten combat robots.
The red lights in the eyes of the ten combat robots gradually dimmed, finally going completely dark. Before everyone could catch their breath, the ten robots flared to life again with a brilliance no less intense than before. Their right arms, having exhausted their ammunition, suddenly produced sharp blades. They lunged towards Du Peng in the distance.
Under Lin Liqiang's control, the ten metal combat robots instantly unleashed dozens of dazzling blade flashes, intending to hack Du Peng to pieces.
A series of metallic collisions and ringing sounds ensued. Du Peng still stood calmly in place. The combat robots that had rushed forward retreated. The metal battle swords in their hands shattered, and their eyes, glowing fiercely red, dimmed once more.
The blinking lights connected to the brain suddenly flashed rapidly. The researchers stared silently, looking at the two individuals who were supposed to be controlling combat robots with their newly awakened spiritual power.
The brain wanted to ask if these two already possessed spiritual power before the surgery, but it restrained itself. Spiritual power requires the existence of a 'Spiritual Gate'; without opening it, one cannot use spiritual power.
During the surgery, the brain clearly sensed that neither Lin Liqiang nor Inzarota had their Spiritual Gate open prior to the procedure. Whether it helped them open their gates was unknown to the brain.
But the brain knew one thing: based on long-term research into spiritual power, the spiritual power of most people immediately after its genesis is extremely weak. Controlling even one small, half-foot-tall, low-powered combat robot is not an easy task.
Controlling one standard combat robot immediately after awakening spiritual power is already an astonishing feat. Could these two be geniuses in every field? Are they geniuses in the realm of spiritual power as well?
Not only could they simultaneously control ten combat robots right after awakening, but what was even more terrifying was the speed and proficiency of those robots' movements—it was as if they had been practiced countless times!
It shouldn't be! It shouldn't be like this! This data was inconsistent with the projections! The performance of these two far exceeded the predicted data by too much.
The indicator lights representing the brain's thought processes flashed rapidly. The expressions of the other researchers were ashen. These two were terrifying; if they weren't so terrifying, they might feel slightly better. Such performance immediately following the integration of the Neural Net was incredible.
"Damn! This is spiritual power!" Xue Tian’s slightly pale face finally regained a ruddy complexion. He slapped Lin Liqiang on the shoulder. "When you have this stuff, Lin Shao, you can't just keep it to yourself, right?"
Several researchers secretly admired this young man holding the Iaido sword. He had the foresight to realize that if a spiritual power expert cooperated with martial artists in combat, it would absolutely be—
"Don't worry, Xue Shao! When I'm chasing girls, I'll definitely use all my spiritual power to help you!"
"Lin Shao really gets it! He knows exactly what I'm thinking."
Those who had praised Xue Tian in their hearts moments ago now wished they could slap themselves and kick Xue Tian. These two fellows were treating a monumental invention—one that could pave the way for a new era for humanity—as a tool for chasing girls. People like this deserved to be dragged out and shot a hundred times for disrespecting science.
"What a pity," Inzarota murmured, his eyes fixed on the projection screen, conveying infinite wistfulness.
The brain’s thought lights flickered rapidly again. It noticed that when Inzarota said 'pity,' his eyes remained locked on the unmanned combat drones displayed on the screen.
A person who had just awakened and unlocked spiritual power, after controlling ten combat robots, was still not satisfied and wanted to test the unmanned drones. The brain, though reduced to just a mass, felt a flicker of inferiority. These two young men were far too monstrously gifted compared to the projected data.
"I say," Lin Liqiang looked up at the brain. "Senior Brain, how many of these combat robots that can self-destruct down to nothing are left here?"
The brain hesitated before answering, "A little over two hundred."
"Is that so? Give In Shao and me a hundred each," Lin Liqiang said, squinting with a smile, gnawing on something. "Old Qin and the others are heading into Pandora Space, so count us both in. Let me test the capabilities of this thing. Make sure to equip us with sufficient firepower!"
