How could this be... Had his sister fallen for Ou Chen all over again? In the days that followed, Ou Chen began appearing in the ward more and more frequently, always bringing something with him.
Sometimes it was a houseplant, other times art supplies, but he invariably brought sketchbooks, often delivering a dozen or more at a time.
Just as Yin Cheng began to wonder what Ou Chen would bring once he’d acquired every art book in every bookstore, the sketchbooks Ou Chen delivered started to be foreign editions.
Within a few days, the corner of the ward was piled high with the sketchbooks Ou Chen had brought. To Yin Cheng’s astonishment, Ou Chen had someone deliver a bookshelf to neatly organize the mountain of art books.
That evening, as the sunset quietly streamed into the room, the pale youth meticulously shaded his drawing board, as if it were the most crucial task of his life. He was so engrossed that he didn’t even hear the knock on the door.
The door was gently pushed open, and the person entering set down what they were carrying before walking to the bedside.
Yin Cheng jumped, realizing only then that Ou Chen was standing beside him.
He nervously flipped the drawing board over onto his lap, shielding it from Ou Chen’s view.
Ou Chen glanced at the board and said, “Didn’t Xia Mo tell you to rest more?” “I’m getting tired of lying down,” Yin Cheng replied, “and it’s been so long since I’ve drawn… and I really want to draw…” He felt his explanation sounded stiff, yet he didn't know how to face Ou Chen, who was about to become his brother-in-law.
“Mm. What are you drawing?” Ou Chen’s question made Yin Cheng’s eyes widen. Had he heard correctly? Was Ou Chen actually interested in what he was drawing? “…Nothing…” Yin Cheng said, then felt he was being too dismissive of Ou Chen, so he continued, “…It’s a gift for my sister.”
“Is that so?” Ou Chen smiled. “But try not to overdo it; Xia Mo will worry about you.”
That smile froze Yin Cheng completely! He stared blankly as Ou Chen walked away from the bedside and slotted the new sketchbook onto the shelf.
Watching Ou Chen’s straight, solitary back, Yin Cheng fell into deep thought.
Ou Chen seemed different from his memory.
He recalled that in the past, Ou Chen only wanted to be alone with his sister. Whenever other family members were near her, he was always so distant and polite, as if everyone else was superfluous.
Ou Chen also disliked it when his sister showed him affection. Every time she cared for and looked after him, Ou Chen’s eyes would turn as cold as frost.
The current Ou Chen, while still often silent, had far less coldness and aloofness in his expression.
Even when Sister Zhen En was chattering and laughing loudly in the ward, Ou Chen simply went about his own business, acting as if he hadn't been disturbed at all.
Yin Cheng had never doubted his sister’s feelings for Ou Chen. No matter what he had done in the past, Yin Cheng knew that Ou Chen truly loved his sister deeply.
But, would Ou Chen once again display that near-obsessive love and end up hurting his sister? Furthermore, had his sister truly stopped caring for Luo Xi and fallen for Ou Chen? “Why the rush to get married?” Yin Cheng asked without thinking.
Although he had already asked his sister this question, he still wanted to ask Ou Chen again.
Ou Chen’s hand paused, and he turned around.
“Did you ask Xia Mo? What did she say?” Yin Cheng watched his expression and slowly said, “She said—it’s because she likes you.”
Ou Chen seemed stunned for a moment, but only an instant. His dark eyelashes shielded his eyes as he said, “Of course, it’s because I like her that I want to be together forever.”
He seemed unwilling to dwell on the topic, changing the subject instead. “If you want to draw, then keep drawing. I’ll sit by the door, and I’ll let you know if Xia Mo arrives.” Summer of Foam III
