The Jùshòu-class Battlecruiser—that was a warship truly embodying humanity's aesthetic for weaponry, bristling with armaments like a hedgehog, capable of projecting an impregnable field of fire from every angle. Thick armor, immense firepower. It existed solely for combat, devoid of any extraneous features, resembling a tool of slaughter far more than the artful carriers of the Protoss.
"Before us is the first of the Jùshòu-class Battlecruisers, the Jùshòu," Supervisor Billa continued, his introduction flawless. "In addition to its inherent weaponry, the Jùshòu carries ten squadrons of Spectre fighters, and possesses internal capacity for two thousand infantry and armored troops, sufficient for a localized landing operation of considerable scale."
"What about defense?" Yang Zhang inquired.
Supervisor Billa replied, "Its defensive capabilities are truly excellent. Given the thickness of the Jùshòu's armor, unless the same location is struck by a Level Six cannon three times or more, the hull will not sustain significant damage. This super-alloy armor is thoroughly trustworthy."
The assembly continued to observe the Jùshòu's demonstration. A clear space was designated on the vast plain, targets were set up, and diligent workers constructed several temporary fortifications to serve as targets for the Jùshòu-class.
The Jùshòu's Level Five secondary cannons and Level Six main cannons began to fire in rapid succession. Beams of light slammed into the various targets, resulting in a series of explosions that left nothing but wreckage behind.
Seated around Yang Ying were numerous high-ranking infantry generals, such as Randall and Bryan, senior armored division commanders like Bress and Pao Bo, and high-ranking officers of the Cosmic Army like Quentin and Lilia. Each held precision military binoculars, extending their view out to the testing grounds.
"The Jùshòu's four main cannons and eight secondary cannons might not sound like a large number, but compared to the 'Yin-She' cannons currently used in the Solar System, the rate of fire is significantly higher. Earth's forces and the Ancient Legions' Level Six Yin-She cannons typically fire once per minute. However, our Level Six cannons can reduce that interval to twenty seconds. This performance far surpasses theirs," Lilia commented approvingly.
Supervisor Billa smiled. "Next up is the Yamato Cannon. Since the power of this weapon is comparable to a nuclear bomb, we cannot test it here. We have already selected an experimental site, and the Jùshòu will take us there."
As the words faded, the Jùshòu glided toward the viewing platform, positioning itself directly overhead. A column of pale yellow light immediately shot downward, landing precisely in front of Yang Ying.
Supervisor Billa explained, "This is a Tractor Beam. It can transport the personnel within the beam directly into the warship. In space combat, it can also be used to capture smaller targets, such as enemy fighter craft."
Yang Ying nodded and turned to Katerina beside him. "I'll try it first; you can follow up."
"Understood." Katerina reached out, grasped Yang Ying's hand, then let go. She had initially intended to ascend with him, but then reconsidered. Their future was long, and some matters could certainly be handled according to Yang Ying's preference. After all, even a severe malfunction in a Tractor Beam was unlikely to harm a Peak Master.
Yang Ying stepped into the light column, feeling a suction force from above pulling him upward from the ground. With a whoosh, he ascended into the sky. It was like an invisible elevator, and he was quickly drawn up the beam and into the hull of the Jùshòu.
Soon, Katerina followed, and then the dozen or so senior generals from the viewing platform, along with Supervisor Billa.
They arrived on the bridge. This area was remarkably spacious, divided into upper and lower decks, filled with various advanced computers, radar, measuring instruments, and countless other devices. Over twenty staff officers were seated at their stations. Howard occupied the central Captain's chair on the upper deck. Seeing the group enter, he rose and greeted them. "Sir, colleagues, what are your initial impressions of my warship?"
"Not bad at all," said Randall, the commander of the ground forces and Yang Ying's first Marine Corps trooper, with a grin. "Finally, we'll have our own warships to command. That Pacific-class junk produced by Earth is absolute garbage."
"I concur," Howard said, immediately pleased. He pressed a few keys on the armrest, and with a series of mechanical whirs, several sections of the bridge began to morph. After a few adjustments, a dozen extra seats had materialized within the bridge area.
"This vessel has some fine little features. Bridge reconfiguration is one of them; adding or subtracting seats, or altering the overall layout of the bridge, is no trouble at all," Howard chuckled.
Once everyone was seated, Howard continued, "Now, we head to the final exercise location. Everyone, strap in securely." He nodded toward a few staff officers beside him. "Prepare for jump; initiate the FTL drive."
"Affirmative, FTL drive engaged, jump sequence preparing: Ten, nine, eight…" one staff officer began counting down.
Yang Ying felt the Jùshòu give a gentle shudder. Through the viewport, the external view elongated instantly, stretching into a vague, indistinct tunnel.
Both the Protoss Carriers and the Jùshòu-class Battlecruisers were equipped with FTL drives. While the technology differed, the principle was the same: instantly granting the vessel faster-than-light speed, leaving normal space and entering hyperspace. It was analogous to having two points on a piece of paper; folding the paper brought those points together. Hyperspace—it compressed the distance between two points in three-dimensional space. Thus, by entering hyperspace in one location and exiting in another, faster-than-light travel velocity could be achieved. This technique was known as a Spatial Jump.
This technology was epoch-making, the hallmark of a race entering the Great Universe Era. It signified that the race had finally transcended the shackles of light speed, allowing them to traverse the vast expanse of space with complete freedom.
Therefore, it could be said that the Protoss Carriers and the Jùshòu-class Battlecruisers offered Yang Ying more than just military significance; they represented something far deeper and more profound. The successful implementation of Spatial Jump technology signaled the opening of a new epoch. Yang Ying now held the supreme technological high ground over the Solar System, vastly exceeding the current technology of the Terran human forces—this was a qualitative leap, not merely a quantitative increase.
After the Jùshòu jumped into hyperspace, less than a second elapsed before the blurry tunnel vanished. The view outside returned to normal scenery.
A staff officer reported, "We have reached the destination. Jump terminated, exiting hyperspace!"
Howard nodded and remarked, "This spatial jump only covered five hundred kilometers. The hyperspace engine wasn't even running at full power to reach the destination. Frankly, it’s overkill, but this is for the exercise—mainly to test the Jùshòu's various functions. We can make do for now, but I expect we will be using this technology far more often in the future!"
"For testing? But what if the test fails, something goes wrong, and we are all trapped in hyperspace? Wouldn't the entire high command of the Teran Mercenary Corps be wiped out in one go, causing immediate collapse?" Yang Ying joked lightly.
"There is no 'what if,' Sir," Howard stated with absolute certainty. "The Jùshòu's self-diagnostic system would never allow such a situation to occur. This warship has only just been commissioned; it’s not yet at the age where failures develop. While this is the first Jùshòu-class Battlecruiser, and Spatial Jump is being used for the first time, the manufacturing blueprint for this vessel already existed within the shipyard's procedures. It is a mature technology. Building the first one is no different from building the ten-thousandth. The first jump is no different from the ten-thousandth. Therefore, that 'what if' does not exist."
Howard, being a clone captain specifically created to pilot the Jùshòu-class Battlecruisers, had comprehensive knowledge ingrained in his mind regarding the warship, especially the Jùshòu-class, which he understood to his very core. Thus, if he said it was safe, no one else had the standing to disagree.
"Alright, it wasn't something to worry too much about anyway," Yang Ying waved his hand. "I just tested it while we were in hyperspace; I can still perform Soul Transfer. That means even if we were stranded in hyperspace, I could bring you all out."
As a Peak Master, Yang Ying could accomplish a great deal even in less than a second. He paused, then added, "That's enough about other matters. Let's begin testing the Yamato Cannon."
"Yes, Sir," Howard responded, pointing out the window. "Please look there."
Everyone turned in the direction he indicated, seeing only a small hill with no fortifications in that direction.
"To prevent eye damage from the light, we will view it through an optical screen," Howard explained. He pressed a button on the armrest, and the bridge windows immediately dimmed to a dark, sunglass-like tint. Simultaneously, the main screen in the bridge began displaying an image of the hill.
Howard instructed a staff officer beside him, "Activate the Yamato Cannon, target acquisition."
"Yamato Cannon activating!" the staff officer announced loudly, pressing a key. The forward section of the Jùshòu began gathering energy. A small sphere of deep crimson light converged, shrinking into a ball about one meter in diameter, continuously being compressed inward. Amidst an intense sizzling sound, energy was forced inward, causing the density to skyrocket and the light to grow blindingly bright.
After several seconds, the brightness reached a certain zenith. The small sphere expanded into a fiery red energy mass and, with a piercing shriek, was suddenly launched toward the hill!
Upon impact, the peak of the small mountain instantly erupted in a violent glare, as if a miniature sun had risen on its summit.
The resulting detonation echoed moments later.
The intense light was filtered by the bridge's darkened glass, allowing a clear view on the optical screen of a ball of light erupting from the mountain, rapidly expanding outward. The light sphere then transformed into a beam, which soon faded, revealing a mushroom cloud.
A strong gust of wind, mixed with sand and dust, blew toward the observers, causing the Jùshòu to shake slightly—this was the shockwave from the explosion. The optical screen flickered and blurred, obscured by the dust blocking the light.
After a moment, the dust settled. When the observers looked again, the small mountain had vanished entirely, replaced by a vast, deep crater thousands of meters in diameter that had sunk into the earth.
"Excellent. I am certain that no warship in the Solar System could withstand this power. Even some fortresses, hit by a single shot like that, would be instantly blown sky-high," Yang Ying stated, highly satisfied with the power of the blast.
