"No, I've been watching the whole time. How long have we been in here? After all that commotion just now, their food probably hasn't even arrived yet." The two then ordered another pot of tea, chatting and sipping as they drank. Occasionally, Zhou Huan and Shi Bingyuan would glance over towards Dongzi's room door, listening intently.
Dongzi's room seemed utterly silent. The hotel's soundproofing must have been excellent, otherwise, Dongzi and the others would surely have heard the fight Zhou Huan had with those guys earlier. This observation convinced Zhou Huan that the soundproofing here was remarkably effective.
"Master, why don't we just go straight into their room?" Shi Bingyuan, seeing that this waiting game wouldn't end soon, eagerly requested permission from Zhou Huan.
Zhou Huan smiled faintly. "If we wanted to storm in, all the effort we just put in would be wasted. Wait a while longer, and then we'll go."
While they were chatting, they noticed a beam of brilliant white light arc out of Zhou Huan's room, pass through it, and then shoot out through the crack under the door.
"Apprentice, it's our turn now. Follow it out." As Zhou Huan spoke, Shi Bingyuan moved with astonishing speed, chasing after the white light. The two followed the beam until it led them to the washrooms, only to find, frustratingly, that the light slipped through the crack under the door of the women's restroom.
Shi Bingyuan looked utterly bewildered, muttering, "Master, the white light went into the ladies' room—what do we do now?"
"Forget about that! This chance won't come around easily. Go in!" Zhou Huan was also steeling his nerves. His main worry wasn't anything else, but the sheer awkwardness of being discovered inside. Finally, he gritted his teeth, kicked open the door to the women's restroom, pulled out his bronze coin sword from his bag, lit a talisman, and shot two talismans out with sharp cracks. He swept his sword in a large circle inside the restroom, but the white light was nowhere to be seen.
"Master, the compass! I refuse to believe that thing managed to escape?" As they were speaking, a restroom door slowly opened. A young woman, holding up her skirt, emerged and, upon seeing Zhou Huan and Shi Bingyuan each holding a magical implement, was startled. She panicked and tried to bolt past them and out of the restroom area.
To ensure nothing was missed, Shi Bingyuan reached out and stopped the woman. He then used his compass to scan her body, but his compass remained unresponsive.
The water column on Zhou Huan's compass, however, locked onto a direction. Zhou Huan followed the indication, and gradually, the needle line of the water column began to boil. The talisman in Zhou Huan's hand had already flown out. Where it struck, only a wisp of white smoke remained. The smoke dissipated slowly, and then, suddenly, while Zhou Huan and Shi Bingyuan weren't paying close attention, the smoke instantly transformed back into a white light and shot out again through a gap in the restroom door.
Zhou Huan and Shi Bingyuan tried to rush out again, but once they exited the restroom door, they could no longer locate the white light.
"Master, it seems like it got away!"
"It can't get away. Don't worry; we'll drag it out soon enough." The two walked out. Zhou Huan habitually closed the door to the women's restroom.
Just then, they saw Hu Tingting rushing over, reeking of alcohol. Upon seeing Zhou Huan, she paused briefly, then said, "Master Zhou, why didn't you join us for dinner? What a waste. I've had too much." She then looked back at Zhou Huan's hand and the position where he and Shi Bingyuan were standing, gasping in realization. "Oh, so you guys were going to the ladies' room. Good for you! Move aside quickly, I'm desperate!" With the lack of decorum brought on by drink, Hu Tingting shoved past Zhou Huan and pushed Shi Bingyuan aside, entering the restroom and locking the door behind her.
"Let's leave it for now. We'll go back and wait. That beam of light seemed deliberately intended to lure us here, but I don't understand what their goal was," Zhou Huan said. He and Shi Bingyuan quickly returned to their room, sat down, and resumed drinking tea. This time, they left the door wide open, watching for Hu Tingting to reappear, but the longer they waited, the less likely it seemed. Before long, Dongzi staggered out of his room door and started moving toward the restrooms.
Shi Bingyuan started to call out to him, but Zhou Huan stopped him. "What are you shouting for? You watch Big Radish. I'll follow and see what's going on."
The two split up: Zhou Huan quietly trailed Dongzi, finding it incredibly easy not to be noticed by him, following him right to the entrance of the women's restroom.
Dongzi stood before the facilities. The doors to the men's and women's restrooms faced each other. He looked left and right, appearing confused. Instead of going to the men's room, Dongzi headed straight for the women's room. He pushed the door, but before he could open it fully, Zhou Huan immediately understood: since Hu Tingting went in, she hadn't come out, so the door had remained locked. Zhou Huan then looked down at the compass in his hand; its needle was pointing magically toward the women's restroom, the water boiling fiercely.
"This is bad. Hu Tingting is in trouble!" Zhou Huan instantly became alert. He bolted forward, but before he could reach the door, Dongzi smashed it open. Strangely, the lock here was incredibly sturdy—top quality. Dongzi kicked the glass and wooden panels of the door until they shattered into splinters, but only a few scraps of wood near the lock remained clinging to the frame, the lock still firmly set in its clasp.
Dongzi stumbled into the women's restroom. He tripped after only a couple of steps, falling with a thud. Dazed, he muttered nonsensically, "What are these people thinking? Shouldn't you go home and sleep if you're drunk? Sleeping in a restroom, and a women's one at that? Aren't you disgusted by the smell?" Dongzi swayed to his feet and called out, "Little Tingting, your Brother Dong is here to find you! Where are you? Don't tell me you're counting money. I'm going to open the door and look, you hear!"
Hearing this from outside, Zhou Huan was instantly filled with rage. This son of a bitch—he was going to make him explain exactly what fortune Hu Tingting had stumbled upon that made her eyelids twitch. It had to be related to the foreman's death; now this guy was even drinking heavily.
Zhou Huan rushed to the women's restroom door in a few strides. He looked at the door, then looked inside. Hu Tingting lay on the ground, her eyes wide open, a dark mark on her forehead that looked like a puncture wound. Soon, a large lump began to swell from that spot, and moments later, the lump burst, releasing a mass of corpse worms that slowly crawled out. Furthermore, her body was covered in the paper money traditionally scattered for the deceased, and the small bag Hu Tingting was clutching contained only burnt spirit money.
"Little Tingting!" Dongzi was still opening each stall door, shouting her name.
Zhou Huan dashed to Hu Tingting's side. A single talisman instantly blasted away all the corpse worms crawling on her. What was revealed before him was a corpse with an ashen face and constricted pupils. Zhou Huan turned and delivered a solid slap to the back of Dongzi's head. Dongzi immediately let out two loud retches, throwing up everything he had recently consumed. He tried to turn and fight back, but upon seeing Zhou Huan, the drunkenness instantly cleared. He mumbled, "Brother, why are you here?"
"Hmph. If I hadn't come, who knows what would have happened! Call Sister He and have her send people to process the scene. You stay here and watch. I'll question you about everything later." Zhou Huan walked straight out of the women's restroom. Two security guards were already standing by the entrance.
"Sir, could you please come with us to the security office?" The two guards had been aware of the disturbance caused by Zhou Huan and Shi Bingyuan earlier but hadn't intervened since they believed no significant damage had occurred. Now that Zhou Huan was causing trouble in the women's restroom, they couldn't ignore it and had to invite Zhou Huan to the security office.
Zhou Huan responded even more sharply, "You want to take me to the security office to beat me up? The police will be here soon. There’s a supernatural incident here; evacuate the crowd immediately. If another life is lost, none of us will be in a good position."
Zhou Huan's words made the guards turn pale with fright, as they could see Hu Tingting inside and Dongzi checking her body for any other suspicious marks. Seeing Dongzi sigh heavily at the end, Zhou Huan knew the man had sobered up completely.
"Little Sister Tingting, you really shouldn't have. That money the boss gave you—it wasn't yours, so why did you take it? Look at us now, both the money and the person are gone. Isn't that the boss playing tricks on you, or what?" Dongzi sighed deeply, shook his head, and gently closed Hu Tingting’s eyes for her.
