Zhou Huan pulled Huang Yunfeng and ran back the way they came. Before leaving, he had carefully searched the ninja’s body, finding nothing of note. This ninja must have been alone; otherwise, Zhou Huan wouldn't have subdued him so easily, so Zhou Huan let him go.
Meanwhile, Dongzi, after splitting from Zhou Huan, led two others running toward the left. After covering about five li, he noticed the pervasive ghostly energy was heavy, and the dirt road had turned a deep crimson. Dongzi immediately sensed something was wrong. By the time he fully registered it, Xiao Shan was suspended in the air, blood trailing off him, while two priests stood chanting from open Bibles, each clutching a cross the size of a palm.
Xiao Shan’s expression was one of agony. The Purple Jade Gourd floated in the air, tethering him near the two priests. Four ninjas stood guard beside them. Seeing Dongzi and his group arrive, these assailants immediately burrowed into the earth, preparing to ambush them.
Dongzi remained alert. Noticing the ninjas dived into the soil at different points, he quickly reacted: "Mr. Wang, let’s each take one side; we must be careful. These ninjas have gone underground; we have to eliminate them."
"Heh heh, excellent, Dongzi, well arranged. Detective Billy, we'll follow Dongzi's plan. No problem," Mr. Wang replied, pulling out his gauntlets from his pocket while keeping one hand tucked into his trouser pocket.
"Shush-shush!" A sound arose beneath Dongzi's feet. Suddenly, he felt two hands grab his ankles fiercely, yanking him down into the earth.
Half of Dongzi's leg was dragged deep underground. He immediately sensed disaster—something beneath him was coiling around his feet. In a surge of fury, Dongzi swung his shovel, flipping it once in the air, and drove it down viciously into the ground. With a forceful yank backward, a spurt of blood erupted from the earth like a geyser. Dongzi then thrust his hand into the hole and yanked out the figure that had been binding him with steel wire. By the time he pulled the person free, the ninja was already dead.
"Dongzi, you were too brutal! Just damaging his form would have been enough; why kill him?" Zhou Huan chastised Dongzi for his lethal strike, but before he could finish drawing a breath, he felt something pushing up from beneath his own feet. Zhou Huan showed no hesitation, leaping high with both legs and employing the exact same move as before, smashing his heels down violently. With a quick grab, he pulled the figure from below ground.
Dongzi sidled up to Zhou Huan, glanced at the figure dragged out, and burst out laughing, "Brother Huan, yours is dead too, isn't it?"
"What? Impossible!" Zhou Huan took a closer look and was indeed annoyed. He muttered continuously, "This fellow is nothing! The one before, I used the same force, the same technique, even struck the same spot, and he was fine. This one is trash, actually died from the impact!"
"Brother, stop dwelling on it. We came here today prepared to die. Those guys never intended to leave alive. Their goal was to obtain that ring at any cost..."
"Bang! Bang!" Two gunshots rang out from where Billy and Mr. Wang stood. A wide patch of bright red slowly seeped from the soil beneath their feet.
"Alright, we've dealt with these troublesome pests," Mr. Wang said, steadying Billy with one arm while rubbing his own lower back with the other. "Honestly, defying age is impossible. After just two shots, my ears are ringing painfully."
Zhou Huan saw that the four ninjas near them were neutralized. Xiao Shan struggled desperately in mid-air, yet it seemed something was lodged in his mouth.
"The Five-Color Gem Ring!" Zhou Huan now had to admire Xiao Shan's tenacity—it was her devotion to love that allowed her to exert such immense energy. The Bibles were gifts from the divine; yet, she had managed to hold out this long, and there was absolutely no possibility of her soul being extinguished—truly remarkable.
Seeing this, Zhou Huan shouted toward the two priests opposite them, "Are you still not finished? We've cleared out several opponents here. Do you still intend to persist? Don't think your Bibles can solve everything. If you obtain this ring, the curse within it will follow you forever, ensuring none of you ever find deserved peace. You need to think carefully."
"You opposite, stop wasting our breath. We're dead anyway; snatching the ring gives us a chance to live. For survival, we have no choice. Don't blame us for being ruthless," the two priests spoke as if with one voice.
Zhou Huan couldn't concern himself with their words. He saw Xiao Shan's soul power steadily declining. With a look, Billy and Dongzi shot forward with the speed of arrows loosed from a bow, streaking away.
But before the two could reach the priests, the priests seemed to suddenly lose all awareness. A hole opened in the Baihui acupoint atop each of their heads. Standing behind them was Huang Yunfeng, holding one spirit in each hand. He kicked the Bibles flying from their grasp, then gave a faint smile. "Why bother talking nonsense with them? Kill them on the spot!"
Everyone present had witnessed the speed of Huang Yunfeng's soul; his explosive power was something even most living beings, perhaps even most ghosts, could not surpass.
As the sound of the Bibles faded, Xiao Shan clutched the Purple Jade Gourd tightly with both hands and was slowly set down to the ground. He gasped for breath. As a woman, her once full head of black hair had, in that single moment, turned into wisps of white—a clear sign of severe depletion of this spirit's energy.
Zhou Huan immediately stepped forward. "Xiao Shan, let go of that ring. Give the ring to me, and I promise I will take you all back. We'll hold an assembly of ghosts to discuss the entire sequence of events, clarify your grievances, and then you can all coexist peacefully as partners below. Stop these pointless struggles. And most importantly, tell your husband or whoever to dispel that Crimson Moon Curse!"
"Do you think it dissolves just because you say so? I—" Xiao Shan seemed to have something to say, but she stopped, uttering no further words, and obediently returned to her Purple Jade Gourd.
Huang Yunfeng stood helplessly, unable to articulate his confusion or concern to Zhou Huan.
Zhou Huan understood what he meant. After some thought, he decided, "Alright then. Because you damaged my compass, you will stay here as compensation for the compass. When we arrive, I will summon you all. Just follow my instructions, and the rest will be easily resolved."
Mr. Wang's phone rang.
"What is it?"
"Chairman, all the personnel you dispatched for that matter are in position. What are your next instructions?"
"Oh, this was just a sudden drill. It's nothing. But tell our people at the airport to prepare to escort us home. We've got a minor complication here that we'll handle ourselves." Mr. Wang hung up, then turned back to Zhou Huan. "Master Zhou, we can't just leave the scene as it is, or we really won't be able to depart. In this dead place, America, the laws are more numerous than the dead—it’s infuriating."
"Understood. Our task now is to clean up the scene, and then properly tidy up the two rooms belonging to the Old Madam. We should be able to catch our flight home tomorrow." Zhou Huan packed away the compass and the gourd. As he turned to leave, only Mr. Wang remained with Billy to start burying the bodies.
Turning back, Mr. Wang made one call, and everything concerning the local situation was immediately taken care of. Moreover, having Detective Billy here made these matters very manageable—it was the way of the underworld.
Back at the hotel, Xiaoling and Mr. Wang's secretary, An Ran, were safe and sound. After gathering their things and resting briefly, they booked their return tickets. The moonlight in the foreign land was still red, but this time the redness felt peaceful and harmonious, a sense of accord.
The sun of a foreign land was truly uncomfortable. Zhou Huan, leading a large group including Billy and some of Mr. Wang's subordinates, boarded the plane and headed directly toward Andong. The journey was utterly uneventful. In the blink of an eye, the plane circled briefly over the domestic airport before landing smoothly.
