The Life Transmission Device, which sounds like an evolution of magic, actually belongs firmly within the category of "waves."
Roland Roger's concept was this: through some sort of instrument, it could link the spiritual waves of two parties, thereby achieving mutual communication!
This concept was put forth vaguely. First, there was no explanation whatsoever for this instrument, nor any scientific basis; implementing it would be as difficult as climbing to heaven. Second, the method for linking spiritual waves was not mentioned in the slightest, leaving one utterly adrift.
However, these limitations only applied to ordinary people. For a genius like Zhong Shenxiu, a mere spark of inspiration was enough for him to connect many dots. Zhong Shenxiu had conducted considerable research into "Spiritual Waves"; he used them constantly for various activities himself. Thus, upon seeing Roland Roger's concept, he knew it was feasible!
"Spiritual Waves" could indeed be used for communication—Zhong Shenxiu had verified this before. What needed to be done now was to enable others, who lacked enormous spiritual wave capacity, to achieve the same result. This required external aid—the so-called instrument.
What truly piqued Zhong Shenxiu’s interest was not contributing this technology to humanity, but rather wondering if his own spiritual waves might be amplified given such a device.
Zhong Shenxiu had never considered this issue before, simply because his mind was already burdened with too many problems to consider every facet. Now, prompted by this "Magical Communication Device," he was intensely curious whether he could enhance his "Spiritual Waves" through external force.
"Spiritual Waves" had always benefited Zhong Shenxiu immensely. Not only could he use them to scout his surroundings, but they were also intrinsically linked to the two mysterious spaces within his body. Therefore, any opportunity to improve his spiritual waves, Zhong Shenxiu had to seize it!
If his spiritual waves improved, he could extract more items from the Qiankun Domain, which would be an incredibly potent endeavor!
Upon returning, Zhong Shenxiu immediately set to work researching the matter. Before he could map out a general direction, others could not assist. Roland Roger and Mercy Pors had no idea where to even begin their research, so the two could only manage tasks within their capacity, such as organizing research equipment or summarizing notes!
Currently, Zhong Shenxiu’s mind was operating at full capacity, contemplating the starting point for his investigation.
“Spiritual Waves” are generated by spiritual power. Researching them was complex, but since he was studying a "wave," perhaps he should shift his focus to another type, such as "sound waves"! Although a vast difference existed between the two, they shared an essential underlying connection.
As the saying goes, understanding one leads to understanding all. Sometimes, shifting one's perspective can yield twice the result with half the effort. This was something Zhong Shenxiu often taught Mercedes!
If he could decipher the patterns of "sound waves," he could largely extrapolate crucial information regarding "Spiritual Waves."
The Thousand Mile Voice Transmission that Zhong Shenxiu and Robin had once used was, in fact, a form of "sound wave." From this, one could see that the "Magical Communication Device" had a very close relationship with "sound waves."
Now that a breakthrough point had been found, the next step was to follow this main thread of thought.
The generation of sound originates from resonance, which can also be understood as a form of symbiosis with air molecules. Different amplitudes and frequencies produce different segments of the sound wave spectrum. Sound is merely the motion formed by sound waves propagating through solids, liquids, or gases.
Sound has no mass; it has no weight. Sound is not an object; sound is a mechanical longitudinal wave. Waves are a form of energy transmission; they carry energy, thus capable of producing effects.
The pitch of a sound (high or low) is determined by "frequency"; the higher the frequency, the higher the pitch. The character of the sound is determined by the material and structure of the sounding object itself.
Music flows from sound, takes shape in movement and stillness; this is the Way of Man!
Zhong Shenxiu’s body suddenly shuddered, as if a flash of inspiration had crossed his mind. What was it?
Zhong Shenxiu knew this inspiration was the key to implementing this research. If he could just grasp this one flash, it seemed all problems could be solved. Daring not to be careless, he immediately refocused his concentration.
Finally, that inspiration flickered again. Zhong Shenxiu finally knew what it was: it had led him to think of Wu Feiyan’s zither music.
Zither music is also a form of sound wave. The notes Wu Feiyan played possessed the ability to stir the soul. Although they lacked the powerful resonance of the music Zhong Shenxiu played using spiritual energy, they could still entrance listeners to the point of obsession! This wasn't just because the playing was beautiful; it was because the music contained an irresistible magic!
What did this imply? Since Wu Feiyan could not wield spiritual energy, how could she still produce such influential music?
The matter was becoming clearer and clearer, and a bold conclusion formed in Zhong Shenxiu’s mind—
Sound Magic!
Since the generation of sound could be understood as a type of resonance, was this not the very mechanism for activating magic?
With this realization, a wave of ecstatic joy washed over Zhong Shenxiu. He had already been pleasantly surprised by the "Time Magic" he learned about from Mercedes; now he had an addition: "Sound Magic." He could now—
For the moment, he set that problem aside. What Zhong Shenxiu needed to do now was ascertain whether "Sound Magic" truly existed, and what its elemental structure looked like. Only then could he delve into its potential and bring forth extraordinary effects!
He decided, and he never procrastinated. With a mere thought, Zhong Shenxiu materialized his newly refined weapon, the Hundred Arms. Under his mental control, this Hundred Arms transformed into filaments, suspending around him.
Proving the existence of "Sound Magic" was not difficult, nor was it simple. It required perceiving surrounding changes through sound, seeking elements that reacted to the variations in the sound waves!
This was beyond the capability of ordinary people, especially regarding unknown magical elements from which to start. However, Zhong Shenxiu was very confident. The sound he was about to produce was no ordinary sound; he would use his spiritual energy to play the Heavenly Demon Tone. This would greatly heighten the activity of the sound elements.
Furthermore, Zhong Shenxiu boosted his "Spiritual Waves" to their maximum output. Any minute change in the surroundings would not escape his perception, and magical elements invisible to ordinary eyes would have nowhere to hide!
Silence descended, as if freezing time!
Finally, Zhong Shenxiu moved. That small hand, white as jade, slowly rested on one of the fine filaments. With a slight flick of his wrist, his index finger pressed gently downward. A single, sharp Zheng! rang out, like a stone cast into a calm lake, sending ripples across the surface.
Then, a profound, resonant music slowly unfolded, like a celestial symphony descending from the heavens, echoing over the entire estate.
Rojairiel, warmly invited by Amyrida and Betty, was visiting the estate. As she listened to them recount various tales of their homeland, a deep, heavy sound of the zither suddenly pierced through the roof and reached her ears!
In that instant, Rojairiel felt something stirring within her body, as if her very soul had received a summons, straining to break free. The sensation was indescribably uncanny!
Then, the music abruptly shifted, becoming crisp and melodious. Rojairiel’s pure heart felt cleansed by moonlight. Following the rise and fall of the notes, images of her homeland unexpectedly appeared before her eyes!
It was too beautiful; she felt as if her entire being had dissolved into that magnificent music!
Amyrida and Betty, seated opposite Rojairiel, were already seated motionless. Judging by their entranced expressions, both their souls had drifted far away with the sound waves!
Elsewhere, Kaine, who had been meditating, stopped and gazed blankly out at the moon. A delicate blush appeared beneath her beautiful, sensual features. She knew Zhong Shenxiu was playing. Not for any other reason—she simply knew!
As for Wu Feiyan and Yue Nongying, they had been discussing their future fates when they suddenly heard that ethereal sound. Wu Feiyan jumped to her feet in excitement.
Because she was constantly accompanied by music, she was not as easily lost in the melodies as the others!
“It’s him, he’s playing!” Little Wu Feiyan’s eyes shimmered with rapturous devotion. Only Zhong Shenxiu, who had awed her before, could produce music of such divine skill!
It was magnificent, certainly surpassing the previous time!
Heavens, what realm had his zither skill reached? Could he still improve?
At that moment, Wu Feiyan’s entire heart was captivated! When she had listened to Zhong Shenxiu play at the Wind and Snow Pavilion, she believed that represented the pinnacle of zither skill, impossible to surpass. But hearing this music now, she understood—there was no limit to the art of the zither!
Yue Nongying, standing beside her, was no less astonished than her elder sister. Having grown up listening to her sister’s music, she was moved to the core by these notes, her own heart pounding wildly. All sorts of beautiful fantasies began to flicker before her eyes!
Was this what paradise felt like?
Just as everyone was lost in rapture over the Heavenly Demon Tone Zhong Shenxiu was playing, Zhong Shenxiu himself entered a state of selfless immersion!
His entire being seemed fused with the music; every pluck of his fingers was a soaring flight of the soul!
Though the Heavenly Demon Tone possessed the power to control the mind and kill invisibly, it also had the effect of purifying the soul—a true double-edged sword, depending on its use!
As the Heavenly Demon Tone reached its crescendo, Zhong Shenxiu finally found what he was searching for: a faint gray, granular element that reacted precisely to the continuous shifts in the music!
This was the element of "Sound Magic"!
A smile spread across Zhong Shenxiu’s face, and he slowly opened his eyes, though his playing did not cease!
The answer he sought was found, and Zhong Shenxiu felt profoundly content. Perhaps because of this elation, he decided to grant the audience a small boon!
Instantly, his fingering pattern changed... (To be continued)
