Every person holds a different view of the military. To politicians, soldiers are merely sharp tools to maintain their ruling class.
In the eyes of historians, the army is the ultimate instrument for dynastic change.
To the soldiers themselves, it is a special cadre where they can find comrades with whom they share life and death, people to whom they can wholeheartedly entrust their backs, their very lives!
Scenes flashed through Qin Fen’s mind, vivid realities he had never witnessed before—not the manufactured, sterile drama of film sets played by actors and actresses.
The hell of battle: the fire, the smoke, the clash of flesh and blood, the bayonets locked in mortal embrace! The great blades chipping from impact! Men fighting back-to-back, staking their lives on each other.
The cruelty of war! Movies could not even convey one percent of its horror. Soundless images, moving scenes of comrades sacrificing themselves for friends, all woven into this tapestry of fire and blood.
Battles where defeat was certain, yet men charged forward to die with fierce devotion! No sound was needed; the mere vision struck Qin Fen’s spirit to its core.
The soldiers of the Shengjing Military Region suddenly felt a surge of thirst. Almost simultaneously, every man subconsciously reached for the water cup beside him; the very air seemed to dry out in that instant.
The arid breath of the Sahara, accumulated over millions of years, now expanded limitlessly outwards with the tremor of Qin Fen’s spirit, intertwining and churning with that scent of iron and blood.
Soldiers are solitary. Yet, soldiers are also the least solitary.
Their solitude comes from the outside; the military is a relatively closed world, often slightly disconnected from the world beyond its borders, hence their isolation.
But soldiers are the least solitary because any soldier who has truly stepped onto the battlefield, who has fought and bled side-by-side, will have found friendships that last beyond life itself.
The Sahara, too, is solitary. Two different atmospheres, yet sharing some common traits, began to merge as Qin Fen’s spirit vibrated, expanding through his state of Celestial Unity.
Into the dry scent of the yellow sands, a boundless aura of killing intent was added, along with a subtle essence that promised to set the blood boiling upon contact.
A full five seconds! Qin Fen withdrew from the Celestial Unity, his ten fingers lightly forming fists, feeling the surging power, the tumultuous military soul. He tilted his head back to stare at the sky: Saturn! Tathagata! Divine Beast!
Qin Fen gently turned his head toward another spot in the sky: Jupiter! Azure Dragon! Whether you fight for me or not, brother, I will become a Divine Beast warrior and see you! Even if you are not my brother, becoming a Divine Beast warrior will surely make finding my brother easier, right?
Lowering his gaze, Qin Fen looked at Feng Hua Danyu and the adorable, giggling infant on the projection screen. Recalling his recent feelings about soldiers, he asked quietly, "Will he study martial arts when he grows up?"
"Of course!" Feng Hua Danyu’s face shone with pride. "Not only will he study martial arts, but he will become someone who surpasses you and every martial artist alive today! A unique, miraculous warrior! Every martial artist born in the same era as him, no matter how outstanding, will pale in comparison because of his arrival."
"Why not call him Qin Yao?" Xue Tian asked with a smile. "Take one of my characters; it will make him even more striking."
"No, Qin Kai is better," Brooks pushed Xue Tian aside and stood before the projection screen. "I am called Kai Tian (Heaven Opener); the character Kai is good!"
Solomon blocked Brooks, looking at the infant with eyes that were slightly unnerving. He noticed the child wasn't frightened by the projection of himself; instead, the infant happily spread its arms, making a gesture as if asking to be held.
Xue Tian covered Solomon's mouth, afraid he might suggest some strange name, and dragged him back. Morad had already leaned close to the screen, gently stroking the spear in his hand: "Qin Spear."
Du Peng interjected blandly: "Qin Juan, traveling ten thousand miles..."
"He should be named Qin Lie!" Yang Lie declared, arms crossed over his chest. "This is the one!"
"If not Qin Tian, then Qin Zhan (Slash)!" Xue Tian shouted loudly from the back of the crowd. "The 'Zhan' from Raging Slash is also good..."
"Then let's call him Qin Long, implying 'Seizing the Dragon,'" Yang Lie immediately shot back.
The scene instantly devolved into chaos. Several young martial arts masters and grandmasters, figures who commanded reverence wherever they went, jostled and pushed one another, striving to get their faces in front of the projection screen to aggressively pitch the names they had devised. It was difficult to reconcile their current demeanor with their status as the absolute apex experts of the younger generation.
Qin Fen watched his enthusiastic companions and genuinely wanted to ask them: Whose child is this, exactly? Who is this child’s father?
Listening to every suggested name, Qin Fen felt utterly unable to choose. Being a first-time father was already a challenge he felt unprepared for, and having his friends suggest names that were all equally brilliant only compounded his headache.
Lie... Lie... Lie...
The infant on the projection screen opened its hands, repeatedly murmuring the sound 'Lie,' its face alight with a truly happy smile.
"Lie?" Qin Fen looked at the son on the screen, slightly surprised. "You like the character Lie?"
"My Godson!" Xue Tian let out a tragic shriek and shoved Qin Fen aside, addressing the child on the screen with an almost weeping tone, "Say Tian, Tian is wonderful!"
Godson? Qin Fen stared at Xue Tian, utterly bewildered. When did his son acquire a godfather?
"Who is your Godson?" Yang Lie, beaming with immense delight, bumped Xue Tian with his shoulder, his eyes crinkling with laughter as he looked at the infant. "Godson, I am your Godfather. You must stand firm in your position and choose Lie!"
A powerful tug erupted behind Yang Lie. Brooks violently pulled at Yang Lie, who was clinging to the floor: "Godson, I am your legitimate Godfather! They are all imposters. Don't be misled by them!"
Qin Fen was completely speechless. The child he had just met had instantly accumulated a group of godfathers?
On the roadside, several soldiers who recognized Qin Fen and the others nearly fainted upon witnessing the frantic, competitive behavior of Xue Tian and the rest. It seemed that reincarnation truly was a competitive endeavor! Some were born holding a golden spoon, while others started at the very bottom of society. But no one had ever heard of a newborn instantly acquiring a collection of the most dazzling young martial arts masters currently dominating the world as his godfathers!
Any one of these men, if asked to be a godfather to an infant, would have sent that child’s family into paroxysms of joy. These were individuals poised to become the next generation vying for the title of Divine Beast warriors!
If a newborn possessed decent talent, having such godfathers guide him meant his path in martial arts wouldn't be entirely smooth, but he would certainly have far more opportunities than an ordinary person. Furthermore, with this kind of protection, being a privileged young master would be more than secure.
Being shielded by such a cadre of godfathers... those few soldiers were on the verge of collapse. This reincarnation business was too much of a technical skill!
Even the world’s richest man, offering half his fortune, might not persuade one of these young men to become his child's godfather.
And yet, here was this baby, just born, with everyone scrambling to claim the title of his godfather. Anyone unaware of the truth might think they were the child's actual fathers.
"Lie... Lie... Lie..." Xue Tian looked tragically at the infant. "Listen, Godson, you can't do this to your godfather. Say Tian..."
Qin Fen pushed aside the group, who were now on the verge of coming to blows over their rivalry, and sighed as he looked at the screen. "If the child likes Lie, then let him be Qin Lie."
"Oh yeah!" Yang Lie let out an excited howl and immediately broke into street dance moves. "Qin Lie? A fine name, settled then."
Feng Hua Danyu abruptly cut the projection screen, as decisive as always, vanishing without a trace. When Qin Fen tried to call back, he found the phone was already switched off.
"Jessica?" Qin Fen started, "Get me a phone number..." He paused, then shook his head. "Never mind. I suspect she hasn't just turned off her phone. She’s probably already left."
"Old Qin!" Xue Tian stuck to Qin Fen like stubborn chewing gum. "When is your next son being born? For the next one, it absolutely must be named Qin Tian."
"Qin Kai would be better," Brooks looked seriously at Qin Fen.
Morad pointed at the great spear in his hand; though he didn't speak, his action clearly indicated his preference.
A familiar, attention-grabbing song began playing—a "chasing girls" tune. Qin Fen answered the call from Lin Liqiang and immediately heard Lin Liqiang bellowing, "Change the name! Change it immediately to Qin Liqiang!"
His mobile phone vibrated again, and Inzarota’s projection appeared in conference mode: "Qin, Inzarota."
Five words! Inzarota appeared and offered his five chosen words without prompting!
Qin Fen listened as Yang Lie, not far away, was already calling acquaintances to inform them of his great victory. Clearly, Lin Liqiang and Inzarota were also part of the network they had summoned.
Xue Tian wore a crestfallen expression. "Young Master Lin, it's impossible. Feng Hua Danyu hung up. The name can't be changed."
"Is that so?" Lin Liqiang looked seriously at Qin Fen. "Old Qin! Add Ling! I believe in your abilities. Go have another one and name him Qin Liqiang."
"Young Master Lin, that's unfair. The next one is supposed to be Qin Tian."
"Then have two more," Lin Liqiang’s expression was so earnest, one would think he was discussing matters of global importance. "Have two more. One named Qin Liqiang, and one named Qin Yao."
"Three children!" Inzarota, in just two short minutes, had suggested seven names. Qin Fen was starting to lose the plot. Did these people love children so much? Why didn't they have their own? What did they take him for? A stud?
Brooks patted Qin Fen’s shoulder sympathetically, his face grave. "Qin Fen, you have a heavy mission. At least one for each of us. Go for it!"
Morad nodded, Du Peng nodded, and even the usually expressionless Inzarota nodded with equal seriousness.
Another call. This time it was Song Jia. Qin Fen set Song Jia to conference mode and, observing her through the projection screen, froze again.
Song Jia’s formerly slender figure was gone. Her narrow waist was now... no, it was a mound—a small mountain rising up! "You... you are all here?" Song Jia's cheeks flushed with shy crimson, and she gave Qin Fen a look that was both beautiful and mournful. "Taking a call with so many people on it. I wanted to give you a surprise..."
Song Jia's physique clearly indicated a practical fact, to use common vernacular: she was pregnant! To put it mildly: she was expecting! To be more direct: Song Jia was carrying one, or perhaps more than one, new life within her.
"Boy or girl?"
Lin Liqiang beat Qin Fen to the punch, speaking with the urgency of a man who genuinely felt he was the father.
Qin Fen scratched his head. "Why were you only calling me and not video chatting these past few days? Why not tell me sooner?"
"I didn't want to distract you from your martial arts training. I only called when I heard you were back..." Song Jia’s cheeks burned as she kept her head bowed, her hand gently caressing her lower abdomen.
Looking at Song Jia's demeanor, Qin Fen felt a pang in his heart. Song Jia's talent in martial arts was not weak. The only reason her strength hadn't caught up with the others was that she was a few months younger than them; given time, she certainly had the potential to match them.
But to give birth during this peak period of strength accumulation? It meant she couldn't focus entirely on training, and the rate of her martial star-level advancement would inevitably slow down.
A martial artist, one with super talent, the granddaughter of a Divine Beast, possessing an exceptionally favorable martial arts environment—she was temporarily setting aside her martial future for the sake of bearing a child.
"What are you thinking about?" Song Jia’s face radiated a maternal glow. "This is my choice. I certainly don't want to kill these boys and girls..."
"Boys and girls?"
Lin Liqiang and Xue Tian exchanged glances and said in unison: "Twins? My heavens!
This is too much... Young Master Lin, Young Master Xue, I want a girl..."
"Damn it! No way?"
Lin Liqiang and Xue Tian stared at each other again, voicing their surprise in unison. "You can ask for a boy... You can't show favoritism toward one gender. Wait a minute..."
Lin Liqiang and Xue Tian broke their gaze and looked tensely at Inzarota, Brooks, and the others, saying in unison for the third time: "We should present a unified front externally before resolving our internal contradictions."
"Qiangzi, did you forget? I have a grandfather. He likes naming children too." Song Jia’s cheeks flushed shyly. "Although we aren't married yet, we will be eventually. At that time... Xue Tian slapped the Iaido sword at his waist. "The Qilin wants to strip me of the right to name my Godson? He’ll have to face my blade first! Don't blame me if I disrespect the elderly then."
Morad gently stroked his rifle. Challenging a Divine Beast warrior was already their goal; now, over the naming rights for a godson, they absolutely could not yield.
Brooks also looked seriously at Song Jia: "He is a Divine Beast, but that doesn't mean I can't become one."
Song Jia looked at the earnest expressions on all the young men’s faces, it seemed they were all saying that to secure the right to be a godfather to the child, they absolutely had to achieve the title of Divine Beast warrior!
Qin Fen looked at Song Jia, shrugging helplessly and spreading his hands. "You see the situation... it's like this..."
Song Jia smiled, stroking her swollen abdomen. "I know. You are going to Saturn. Remember, I and the child will be waiting for your return."
Lin Liqiang’s call ended, and Inzarota exited the connection. Xue Tian and the others quietly retreated to a distance; this was clearly not the time to play the third wheel.
"Be careful in everything," Song Jia cautioned gently. "I will support whatever you do. Don't worry about me and the child. Although I ran away from home, I can feel Grandpa Hou protecting me nearby. Unless a Divine Beast warrior personally interferes, even the Star Constellation Generals can’t do anything to me."
"Mm." Qin Fen nodded repeatedly like a child.
PS: I've set up a poll this time—a non-charged one. Ten novels are competing to become audiobooks; if one comes in first place, it will be turned into an audiobook. Jìmì Tiānjiāo is honored to be on the shortlist of these ten books. There's a vote on the homepage: "Vote for Popular Fiction and Win a 350,000 Coin Grand Prize." In the past, I never commented on paid votes, but this time it's free, so I want to campaign for myself. I really want Jìmì Tiānjiāo to become an audiobook! If it does, I'll draw lots from the people who voted, and one of them will even get to voice a part! Everyone, please help support it.
