"What in the blazes is this snake? It can actually fly, and so fast?" Mo Han asked, slightly astonished, looking at Bai Ling beside him.
Bai Ling, upon hearing this, also responded with a look of confusion. "I'm not entirely sure either; this is the first time I've seen flying snakes, but their power seems astonishing."
Just then, Mo Han and Bai Ling simultaneously heard a sharp screech erupting around them. Immediately, countless green flying snakes materialized around them, transforming into streaks of emerald light, charging rapidly toward the magical barrier Bai Ling had erected.
With several muffled bangs occurring almost simultaneously, Bai Ling's blue magical barrier finally succumbed to the impact of the flying snakes. After a visible wobble, it dispersed in a flash of blue light and vanished without a trace.
However, thanks to the shield's intervention, the snakes' assault caused no actual harm to Mo Han or Bai Ling. Intriguingly, after breaching the barrier, the flying snakes utilized the shield's rebound force to swiftly retreat back into the distant dense fog. But Mo Han had no intention of letting them escape so easily. He suddenly took a large stride forward, a white radiance flaring in his hand as the Holy Sword of Light, surging with intense battle energy (Dou Qi), swept toward one of the flying snakes.
The snake seemed to sense the terrifying might emanating from Mo Han's Holy Sword of Light. With a shriek, its body immediately erupted in a shimmering, viridian glow, and then the entire green serpent vanished into thin air, reappearing several meters away, completely outside the range of Mo Han's attack.
At the exact moment the snake disappeared from view...
Mo Han's Holy Sword of Light cleaved through the empty space where the snake had just been, naturally missing the now-escaped green flyer. Mo Han couldn't help but utter an "Eh," surprised that such an insignificant-looking green snake could possess the ability to teleport—it was utterly incredible.
But just then...
A sharp, bright cry rang out. Da Hong and Xiao Hong transformed into twin crimson streaks, surging immediately toward the green flying snake, which was now several meters distant. Da Hong and Xiao Hong’s speed was never slower than the snake’s, and in fact, they were significantly faster. Caught completely off guard, the snake was struck squarely by both Da Hong and Xiao Hong, resulting in a resounding thump.
It was violently slammed into the ground, gouging a massive crater into the earth.
Yet, what astonished Mo Han was that after being hit simultaneously by Da Hong and Xiao Hong, the green snake did not perish on the spot as he had expected. One had to remember that Da Hong and Xiao Hong were top-tier existences among the Sacred Beasts. Even Mo Han himself wouldn't dare to endure a direct hit from the two Blazing Firebirds; being struck would undoubtedly result in severe injury.
But this green serpent stubbornly managed to fly up again, its form flickering, attempting to slip back into the white mist. Its speed, however, was now much slower than before. Furthermore, Mo Han noticed a faint, reddish ichor subtly leaking from the little green snake’s body.
Clearly, although the green snake had evaded certain death, it had sustained heavy injuries from the combined assault of the two Firebirds, a fact evident in its sluggish speed.
This situation, however, made it even less likely for the small green snake to escape the pursuit of Da Hong and Xiao Hong, who excelled in speed.
Seeing the small green snake still trying to flee after their attack, Da Hong and Xiao Hong felt their majesty challenged. They cried out simultaneously and accelerated, moving faster than their previous attempt, hurtling toward the green serpent.
If it were to be struck head-on by their next coordinated attack, Mo Han was certain that no matter how formidable the green snake's defenses were, it could not escape the doom of death. The green snake evidently realized this as well, but its injured body could not possibly evade the pursuit of Da Hong and Xiao Hong. It let out a desperate, anxious screech.
At that moment, a flash of green light appeared, and several more streaks of green shot out from the white mist, slamming directly into Da Hong and Xiao Hong. Instantly, crimson and emerald lights collided. The green lights were batted backward upon impact with the red energy, but the clash successfully neutralized the offensive momentum of Da Hong and Xiao Hong. In the wake of the exchange with the other green snakes, Da Hong and Xiao Hong were knocked sideways. The injured green snake seized this rare opportunity, flickering its form several times before vanishing into the white mist.
"Spatial Magic."
Bai Ling, who had been standing beside Mo Han, spoke slowly, with a touch of surprise in her voice.
"Spatial Magic?"
Hearing Bai Ling’s statement, Mo Han frowned. "Bai Ling, are you saying the ability the flying snake displayed earlier was Spatial Magic?" Bai Ling nodded in response to Mo Han’s query. "Spatial Magic is a type of magic entirely different in energy attribute from what we know. Even in ancient times, few humans or magical beasts ever mastered it. Following several outbreaks of war among humans, much of the magical civilization disappeared from the Dragon Rising Continent, including Spatial Magic. It’s unbelievable to see a magical beast capable of using it here."
Mo Han’s expression grew worried upon hearing this. "This is troublesome. These flying snakes appear numerous, they are extremely fast, and their attacks are not weak. They might not be easy to handle. After all, no matter how fast a person is, they cannot outrun teleportation magic. In that case, is there truly no way to deal with these little green snakes?"
Hearing Mo Han speak, Bai Ling shook her head slightly. "That might not be the case. I noticed that although these green snakes can perform Spatial Magic, their capacity is very limited. Look at the distance the one snake teleported just now—that’s an indication. Moreover, after casting one teleportation, they don't seem capable of chaining them immediately. Otherwise, why didn't that injured snake use Spatial Magic to escape when Da Hong and Xiao Hong attacked? So, I believe if we seize the opportunity, defeating them is still highly possible."
No sooner had Bai Ling finished speaking than dozens of green beams suddenly shot out from the center of the thick fog, causing the expressions of Mo Han and Bai Ling to shift slightly. The number of these flying snakes far exceeded their expectations. If there were truly hundreds of them, fighting would be pointless; they should just run. No matter how strong Mo Han and Bai Ling were, they couldn't possibly fight off hundreds of flying snakes simultaneously.
Fortunately, most of the snakes charged toward Da Hong and Xiao Hong, who were airborne. Clearly, in the snakes' minds, the twin Firebirds were the greatest threat. Only a sparse handful lunged toward Mo Han.
Mo Han sneered inwardly. Even if these few snakes were fast, he didn't take them seriously. He stepped forward, placing Bai Ling behind him, and then swept his Holy Sword of Light, simultaneously unleashing a dozen arcs of Dou Qi that instantly filled the space surrounding the snakes before him, completely blocking all their avenues of attack.
The snakes were clearly fearful of the Holy Sword of Light in Mo Han's hand and dared not meet it head-on. Several of them veered sharply left and right, evading the Dou Qi projections, then split into two groups, continuing their charge toward Mo Han and Bai Ling’s position.
"Interesting."
A slight smile touched Mo Han’s lips. These snakes actually understood flanking maneuvers. Against ordinary warriors, this might catch them off guard, but running into Mo Han was just their bad luck. As the snakes neared him, Mo Han let out a cold, loud shout: "Get down!"
Immediately, a ring of yellow light rapidly expanded from Mo Han’s body, encompassing the snakes in its center. This was Gravitas, the most commonly used spell in Earth elemental magic. Cast by Mo Han at his current level of mid-tier Archmage, its power was extraordinary. Mo Han was certain that even a Wyvern, once caught within the range of his Gravitas, would be unable to escape, let alone these flying snakes, which were less powerful than Wyverns.
As expected, the swift flying snakes instantly slowed upon encountering the yellow light. Then, the snakes realized with astonishment that they could not break free from the range of Mo Han’s Gravitas. Under the spell’s influence, the few snakes rapidly plummeted toward the ground.
As the snakes fell, Mo Han's Holy Sword of Light ignited with a white radiance, swinging toward the three snakes on the left. Immobilized by the Gravitas, the three snakes could not dodge. Terror flooded their eyes, and then, with a few green flashes, they vanished from their spots, reappearing several meters away from Mo Han.
But Mo Han had anticipated the snakes’ use of instant teleportation. While casting Gravitas, he had already calculated the snakes' likely transfer distance. Therefore, although the snakes avoided being cleaved by the Holy Sword of Light, they still could not escape the pull of Mo Han’s Gravitas, continuing to be dragged downward toward the earth.
