Dongzi was thoroughly angered by the young man's words, muttering under his breath, "Damn it all, I'm already quite arrogant, and this kid is even more so! I look down on myself enough, but this brat has no shame!" He then casually snatched the couplet inscribed by Li Tianxiong, put some strain on it with both hands, and the paper tore to shreds, which he tossed aside.
Zhou Huan turned his head and shot Dongzi a fierce look: "You're just quick with your hands. He clearly said to offer this couplet to the lonely wandering spirits. You tore it up. Can you write another one exactly like it?"
Dongzi looked at Zhou Huan, appearing quite innocent, unable to form a proper reply: "That kid, he..."
"What he is or isn't has nothing to do with you! You're just causing me trouble. Burn some more joss paper for the lonely spirits!" As Zhou Huan spoke, he dipped his brush and wrote several large characters: "Reincarnation is Supreme!" He then handed this piece of paper to Dongzi: "Burn this too, and chant the Rebirth Mantra for them three times!"
"Oh!" Dongzi replied blankly and began operating according to Zhou Huan's instructions.
Zhou Huan buried Old Song and then placed fresh flowers in the flower trough! Following this, Old Wang, bringing Wang Qiang along, also presented flowers. At this moment, Wang Qiang seemed very well-behaved, saying in his clear voice, "Old Song, Guo Hua, these flowers are for you, thank you!" He then bowed deeply towards the tombstone. Afterwards, he returned to the crowd with Old Wang.
"Dongzi, place the fish tank in front of the tombstone!"
Dongzi followed Zhou Huan's instruction, setting the prepared tank of goldfish before the monument, adding fish food. Finally, Zhou Huan lit a large bundle of incense sticks and inserted them into the censer before the headstone. Then, Zhou Huan announced loudly, "Everyone, three deep bows. That concludes today's funeral!"
Zhou Huan's ceremony concluded, and the large group slowly dispersed. Mr. Old Wang proactively invited Zhou Huan and Dongzi into his car, entrusted Wang Qiang to his subordinate, and they drove with the convoy toward Old Wang's residence, while the car carrying Zhou Huan returned to Mr. Old Wang's company building.
Upon entering Mr. Old Wang's office, Zhou Huan and Dongzi were seated on the sofa. Mr. Old Wang's secretary brought over coffee. Old Wang then lit a cigarette, opened the drawer beneath his desk, pulled out a file folder, and handed it to Zhou Huan: "Master Zhou Shou, this contains the deed for Old Song's funeral garment shop, along with the blueprints for its renovation and reconstruction!"
Zhou Huan took the folder. He didn't see a name for the building on the blueprints and paused in thought, remaining silent.
Mr. Old Wang, however, asked Zhou Huan with a chuckle, "After this shop is renovated, don't you think Old Song's funeral garment shop should have a new name?"
"Oh, right! Then let's call it the Hall of Fortune and Longevity!" Zhou Huan broke into a smile, turning back to say, "Let's have Mr. Old Wang write these characters for us!"
"How can that be? I think you should do it. The calligraphy you displayed today is truly rare in the world. If you don't mind, perhaps you could also inscribe something for my office." Mr. Old Wang's request was sincere. He then pulled a roll of paper from his drawer and produced ink and brush.
It turned out that Mr. Old Wang was also a calligraphy enthusiast, but upon seeing Zhou Huan's script, he felt deeply inadequate and genuinely admired Zhou Huan's style, thus inviting him to write an inscription.
Zhou Huan swept his brush, splashing ink to create the piece: "A Peaceful Life!" He then wrote "Hall of Fortune and Longevity" and handed it to Mr. Old Wang.
It truly demonstrated that money made things happen efficiently. Mr. Old Wang assisted Zhou Huan with the renovation of the Hall of Fortune and Longevity. After Zhou Huan performed the groundbreaking ceremony, the large signboard for the Hall of Fortune and Longevity was hung above the entrance within a week. The interior had also undergone a massive transformation; all the display shelves had been replaced with classical, carved wood. A fragrance emanated from the wood—a magical scent that instantly refreshed and delighted the senses upon inhaling it. At the far end of the room, a new altar table was installed, bearing the ancestral tablets of the successive masters of Zhou Huan's Shou Shi lineage, with the divine seat of Laozi positioned centrally.
"Brother, our place looks so proper now!" Dongzi looked at their new home, his excitement practically overflowing: "If we invite guests to stay here now, it'll be amazing!"
"Don't think about those things yet; they are useless. From now on, we must use our own hands to do more good deeds for the deceased and help those in difficulty!" Zhou Huan articulated his philosophy, and as he spoke, he suddenly froze, recalling the beautiful woman Yu Qiu he had seen at the supermarket a few days ago, and the begging child.
At that moment, the image of Yu Qiu was also dominating Dongzi's mind, but he was thinking about how to pursue her, whereas Zhou Huan pondered the woman's peculiar nature.
"Dongzi, since today is our opening day, let's take some things tonight and visit our old brothers. I have a few things I need to ask them anyway." Zhou Huan said as he walked into the bedroom. Mr. Old Wang had helped decorate Zhou Huan's bedroom beautifully as well; it was much more comfortable to live in than before, and Zhou Huan’s bed had been replaced with a large double bed.
Dongzi agreed: "Brother, should we go to the supermarket to buy some things then? Maybe we should head to that same supermarket and pick up some supplies?"
"That's exactly what I was thinking. I need to visit that supermarket too. I know you want to see that girl named Yu Qiu, hehe!" Zhou Huan let out a smile that was almost sinister, but he suddenly stopped, biting back words he intended to say.
Zhou Huan and Dongzi saw Mr. Old Wang off, locked the door, and headed in the direction of the supermarket. When the two arrived at the supermarket entrance, Dongzi spotted a girl bustling about inside the transparent glass, working tirelessly. Upon seeing Dongzi arrive, she even smiled at him—a truly beautiful smile that explained why Dongzi missed her day and night.
Zhou Huan watched the girl from a distance. When her gaze shifted toward him, her expression changed—becoming somewhat serious, though not in an expression of distaste.
Just then, someone emerged from behind Zhou Huan, walking up to him and laughing loudly: "Great Master Shou, here to admire beauties again?"
Zhou Huan turned around to see Li Tianxiong, who was dressed particularly plainly today: a white jacket, beige trousers, and a pair of sneakers. Zhou Huan completely ignored him, simply calling out softly to Dongzi: "Hurry up, we're on a schedule!"
Li Tianxiong merely followed Zhou Huan into the supermarket, then found a seat at the rest area near the entrance and watched Zhou Huan and Dongzi’s retreating figures.
After entering the supermarket, Zhou Huan began selecting some food items, while Dongzi headed straight for the spot where he had seen Yu Qiu the other day. He searched continuously but could not find any trace of her.
In a short while, Zhou Huan had filled a large basket with edibles—peanuts, bread, milk, sausages, and so on. He glanced left and right, then called out softly, "Dongzi, let's go!"
He was only two aisles away from Dongzi. Dongzi didn't respond but kept searching for Yu Qiu. His expression had grown slightly anxious, and his mind was filled with questions: Where did Yu Qiu go? I just want to see her.
Suddenly, a hand reached out from behind Dongzi and gently patted his shoulder. The touch was surprisingly light, as soft as caressing a baby: "Sir, have you lost something?"
Zhou Huan's mind had been entirely convinced it was Yu Qiu; perhaps his affection for her was too strong. He spun around sharply: "Yu..." He was about to call out Yu Qiu's name but realized the person who touched his shoulder was not her, so he stopped his speech. He composed himself: "Oh, I was looking for someone. Nothing is lost!"
"Oh, I am a staff member here. If you need anything, you can tell me, and I can help you!" The service employee was very polite, radiating a warmth that was truly touching.
Dongzi thought this was a perfect opportunity to ask about Yu Qiu: "Miss, do you know where Yu Qiu is?"
"Yu Qiu?" The person thought for a long moment, then replied, "This is my first day working here, so I really haven't heard of anyone surnamed Yu. What does he do?"
"He's a service staff member here, just like you. I've been looking for him." Dongzi sounded unusually anxious as he spoke.
Zhou Huan had now moved to Dongzi's side: "Dongzi, let's go. Maybe she didn't come to work today."
Dongzi looked at Zhou Huan, then at the service employee speaking, and reluctantly agreed: "Okay, let's go!" He turned around, looking extremely reluctant to leave, still scanning the area ceaselessly—truly lingering, reluctant to depart.
The two left the supermarket. Dongzi kept turning his head back to look inside. Suddenly, he saw someone emerge from the aisle where he had just been standing—it was Yu Qiu. Dongzi was overwhelmed with excitement and wanted to turn back to find her, but just then, Yu Qiu turned her head, looking at Dongzi and smiling. The anxiety vanished from Dongzi's face, replaced by a joyous smile.
Li Tianxiong sauntered over to Dongzi, then turned his head to look at Yu Qiu. His gaze revealed a hint of menace, a flash of terror.
Looking back inside the supermarket at Yu Qiu, her complexion changed, showing a flicker of panic, and in the blink of an eye, she vanished from sight.
Li Tianxiong gave a faint smile: "Hmph, brother, look, she's gone. What are you still staring at?"
Dongzi glared fiercely at Li Tianxiong: "What are you looking at? You made her leave! Do you know how hard it was for me to come here? You scared her away; if you hadn't, I'd beat you!" Saying this, Dongzi raised his hand to strike.
Li Tianxiong was truly quick; he leaped backward: "Hey, hitting me? I'm telling you, I don't want to get physical with you. Keep throwing your hands around, and be careful I turn you into an idiot."
Hearing Li Tianxiong say this, Dongzi certainly wouldn't let it go. He grabbed Li Tianxiong's collar with one hand, his left fist clenched tightly.
A large hand clamped down on Dongzi’s arm: "Stop it! Let's go quickly, we can come back another day!"
Immediately after, Zhou Huan tightly pulled Dongzi away from the supermarket. Dongzi hadn't gotten what he wanted and left seething with bottled-up frustration. He shouted at Li Tianxiong: "Brat, you just wait! This isn't over between us!"
Li Tianxiong didn't take Dongzi seriously at all. He just watched Zhou Huan’s retreating back, smiling dismissively.
Zhou Huan pulled Dongzi along and returned to the derelict building on the pedestrian street. At the corner, they once again saw the child begging.
