As for Mo Han himself, he followed Ma Ke’s guidance directly to the side hall of the Prince’s residence.
Daili and Murong Feixue had already prepared the meal and were chatting cheerfully, waiting for his return.
“Boss, if you hadn’t come back, you’d be collecting my corpse by now. I’m starving to death.”
As soon as he entered the hall, Jack complained vociferously to Mo Han.
Hearing Jack’s words, everyone burst into laughter. Mo Han, however, merely gave Jack a faint smile and spoke slowly, “Judging by how spirited your shouting is right now, you must still have plenty of energy. How about we go run a couple of laps to warm up before coming back?”
Jack immediately scrambled to defend himself, “That was the cry of a dying man, you see? That’s why it was a bit louder…”
But just as Jack finished speaking, he let out a sharp cry, “Ouch! Boss, why did you hit me on the head again? If you keep hitting it, I’ll really become stupid.”
“I just wanted you to taste what it feels like right before death,”
Mo Han said with a wicked grin. “That way, next time you shout, you’ll find the right tone and won't get the pitch wrong. Those last few shouts were quite good, hehe.”
The poor Jack knew that the blow to his head was utterly in vain. He could only mutter something under his breath resentfully, though probably only he could understand what he was saying.
For a moment, laughter filled the entire hall.
Daili, standing nearby, finally spoke up, “Alright.
Mo Han, come and sit down quickly. Everyone has been waiting for you for a long time.
You always like to bully Jack.”
“Exactly, exactly…”
Jack, seeing Daili speak up for him, finally found an opportunity to chime in a few times. However, as soon as he saw Mo Han’s gaze drift towards him, he promptly clamped his mouth shut. He certainly didn’t want to receive another rap on the head from Mo Han, and he settled down quietly.
Hearing Daili’s words.
Mo Han walked to the main seat beside Daili and apologized with a slight smile, “Hehe, my apologies everyone. I was chatting with that Holy Dragon Patriarch and got so engrossed that I didn’t notice the time. I’m a bit late.”
Princess Rouxue, who had been sitting there all along, heard Mo Han’s explanation.
A rare flicker of concern crossed her face, and she spoke, “My father must have needed you for Brother Blaise’s matter, right?” In Mo Han’s absence, Rouxue visited to chat with Daili and the others almost every few days. She had practically made this place her second home, so she naturally joined Daili and the others for the meal.
Mo Han looked at Rouxue and replied with a touch of helplessness, “It seems Your Highness knows quite a bit. Yes.
It is indeed about Blaise’s matter. Your clan elders can no longer afford to wait; we have no choice but to act.”
Rouxue merely let out a soft sigh upon hearing this and said, “I know you’ve done your best. Thank you. It’s just a pity.
Even now, I can’t find any evidence to prove that Brother Blaise was framed. I am truly useless.”
Seeing Rouxue so upset.
Mo Han could only try to comfort her, “It’s alright, Princess. You don’t need to be so sad. After all, that incident happened so long ago; investigating it must be fraught with difficulties. Furthermore, if there truly is a hidden conspiracy, I imagine the mastermind would be extremely cautious. Assassinating the Old Patriarch is no minor affair; one misstep means certain death. Therefore, the person behind it certainly wouldn't leave behind clues detrimental to them. So, please don't blame yourself.”
Hearing Mo Han’s words, Rouxue expressed her gratitude with a thankful nod. However, these matters were not something that could be resolved in a few sentences, but at least Rouxue felt slightly better.
“Huh? Where are Yanran and Bailing? Didn’t they come out together?” Mo Han looked around, not seeing Liu Yanran’s figure, and asked with a hint of worry.
Daili quickly explained, “I’ve gone to call her several times, but she seems to be in a very bad mood and refuses to come out. I had no choice but to have someone bring her meal to her room. Xue’er and I plan to check on her later. Miss Bailing said she dislikes crowds, so she’s staying in her room too.”
Mo Han understood Liu Yanran’s feelings upon hearing this. After all, this was a strange place for her, so it was understandable that she might be down. Moreover, he had been incredibly busy since his return and hadn't had time to check on her. Hearing Daili’s words, he could only nod. As for Bailing, Mo Han roughly understood her temperament, so he wasn't surprised.
Just then, Latin, who was nearby, couldn't help but interject, “Boss, when are you going to the Ancient Blue Ruins? Take us with you! We’re going to rust if we’re kept cooped up here like this.”
Jack and Rock, standing beside him, showed expressions of agreement and chimed in to support Latin’s proposal.
Hearing Latin’s inquiry, Mo Han smiled faintly, “Don’t worry. I was planning to take you all out for some real experience anyway, so I wouldn’t forget you. Prepare yourselves tonight, and we’ll set off tomorrow.”
Upon hearing Mo Han’s words, Latin and Rock cheered excitedly. Daili and Murong Feixue were a little surprised; they hadn't expected it to be so soon, considering Mo Han had only just arrived home today. But since Mo Han had said it, Daili and the others didn't argue. To them, Mo Han’s decisions were always to be supported unconditionally.
After dinner, Mo Han was still uneasy about Liu Yanran and decided to take some time to check on her. After all, he was leaving tomorrow, and Yanran barely knew anyone here. Mo Han felt it necessary to explain things to her before departing.
As soon as he reached Liu Yanran’s room, he found her sitting blankly on a stool inside, staring vacantly at the floor, lost in thought about who knows what. Seeing Mo Han, the girl suddenly threw herself into his arms and began to sob quietly, leaving Mo Han momentarily flustered. He could only comfort her in a low voice.
“What’s wrong, Yanran? Why are you crying all of a sudden? Did someone upset you?” Mo Han asked, holding Liu Yanran, a look of confusion on his face.
Hearing Mo Han’s question, Liu Yanran cried even harder, speaking in broken bursts, “You didn’t come to see me all day today. I thought you were ignoring me.”
Mo Han couldn't help but feel a mix of exasperation and amusement. Yanran was usually so cheerful; she would never act this way normally. He hadn't expected that her amnesia would even cause her personality to become so sentimental. However, he admitted he had been too busy today, failing to check on her after settling her in. He could only apologize softly, and only then did Liu Yanran’s mood gradually improve.
But upon hearing the news that Mo Han was leaving tomorrow, Liu Yanran naturally wanted to go with him. Yet, after much persuasion from Mo Han, he managed to convince her to stay. When he finished comforting Liu Yanran and stepped out, Mo Han noticed Daili sitting alone quietly in the courtyard.
Seeing Mo Han emerge, Daili offered a gentle smile and walked up to him, saying softly, “Did you manage to comfort Yanran?” Mo Han nodded, gazing at Daili’s face. Faced with her tolerance, a sense of guilt welled up within him. He seemed to want to say something but couldn't utter a word, so he could only whisper, “I’m sorry.”
Daili naturally understood what Mo Han’s apology meant. She simply smiled, took both of Mo Han’s hands, and said with a gentle laugh, “Big Brother Mo Han, you don't need to apologize to me. I actually know that sometimes, some things are beyond your control. The fact that you said this to me today is enough for me. It shows that my position in your heart is still important. Although I don’t want to share you with others, I know that’s unrealistic. But I only hope to occupy a place in your heart.”
Hearing Daili’s words, Mo Han felt even guiltier. He wanted to say something, but Daili stopped him. He could only reach out and pull Daili tightly into his embrace, murmuring softly, “Thank you, wife.”
Daili let out a soft “Mm” with a blush, allowing Mo Han to hold her. For a moment, neither of them spoke, savoring the rare quiet time between them.
After a long while, Mo Han finally spoke slowly, “Wife, I have something I want to discuss with you, regarding my trip to the Ancient Blue Ruins tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Daili lifted her head from Mo Han’s chest and looked up at him, “You want me to stay behind, don’t you?” Mo Han looked at Daili with slight surprise, “How did you know my thoughts?” “I noticed your hesitation during dinner tonight; I guessed some of it,” Daili said with a smile. “You’re worried about leaving Yanran alone here, and that there’s no one to look after the affairs of the residence, right? After all, Xue’er isn't really suitable to be in the Prince’s residence all day. She has no formal standing with you yet, so people might gossip. And I am the most suitable candidate to stay, am I not?”
