"What is this alarm about?" Lilia asked Christina, as she was the one among their group most familiar with Kussen. "It must be the signal for an attack on the port, summoning the port guards," Christina replied without a hint of hesitation, fitting for the daughter of the commander of the Kussen Legion. Yang Ying’s communicator beeped.
He picked it up to see it was Randall. Behind Randall, the background was the main gate of the port, where a surging crowd was fleeing outwards in a scene of utter chaos. "Randall, what’s happening on your end?" Randall spoke rapidly, "Sir, about a dozen ape-men just broke into the port.
The Kussen Legion infantry is in pursuit. Sir, please prepare yourself!" "Take care of yourself; don't worry about us," Yang Ying said, ending the communication. "Ape-men!" Christina shrieked.
She had never encountered an ape-man face-to-face in her life, only seeing their pictures in documents, and the official descriptions painted them as fiends. Hearing that ape-men had arrived, Christina’s face drained of color, but she quickly forced herself to calm down. "They are likely here to steal ships and flee Kussen," Lilia analyzed calmly, then turned to Yang Ying.
"Sir, please recall the warships immediately; this is not our fight." However, Yang Ying sensed danger approaching. He closed his eyes, felt the surroundings, and sighed, "It’s too late. They are running toward us, and they are very fast.
Christina, get back onto the cargo ship quickly. Lilia and Katerina, return to the flagship and have the combat personnel stand ready." In Yang Ying's perception, one High-Grade Ape-man and about a dozen regular ape-men were closing in on their location. Lilia and Katerina nodded.
"As you command!" Then they sprinted rapidly toward the flagship. Aboard the Valkyrie, besides mechanical and medical personnel, there were also combat personnel, all of whom were women. The place where they were currently situated was a small plaza, sparsely populated with passersby and a few staff members.
Only Christina’s cargo ship and three Valkyrie frigates were docked nearby; there were no other vessels. The internal pathways of the port were as complex as a maze; one had to follow the signposts or risk getting lost. For the ape-men to run straight towards them in this environment could only be attributed to terrible luck.
"How could you know the ape-men were approaching?" Christina asked Yang Ying, turning back at the cargo ship's hatchway. Just then, a group of people dressed as port staff and passengers rushed past from an adjacent corridor, shouting, "Ape-men are here! Ape-men are here!" They bolted past Yang Ying and the others.
The cargo ship's ramp was still down, but they didn't choose to board for shelter. In their minds, the ship offered too little room for maneuvering; they trusted their legs the most. Christina gasped in astonishment, "They really are here.
You can sense it—could you be a Psionic..." "Hurry back to your ship!" Before Yang Ying's words faded, a "hissing" sound reached his ears. A thin, crystalline blade of water shot out from the corridor, slicing past Yang Ying’s eyes and striking the running crowd ahead. Where the water blade passed through a body, it manifested as a blood blade.
Instantly, half the crowd was severed at the waist! The other half narrowly escaped death, but most were maimed—missing limbs or severely wounded. Only a few who were exceptionally lucky remained wholly intact, though they were paralyzed with fright, shivering violently on the ground.
Several women had fainted, their eyes rolled back. The injured cried out in agony on the ground, including those whose upper bodies lay separate from their lower halves! Yang Ying recognized the technique—it was one of the advanced applications of Psionic power: manifesting a Water Blade by borrowing water!
Seeing this, Christina clamped a hand over her mouth, gagging, tears streaming down her face. Her bodyguard grabbed Christina's arm and forcefully pulled her into the hatchway. He then glanced at Yang Ying, as if asking if he would follow.
Yang Ying shook his head. The bodyguard didn't press the issue, immediately sealing the hatch. His primary objective was protecting Christina, so he naturally wouldn't waste a second at this moment.
However, he remained outside, drawing a laser pistol from his waist and standing beside Yang Ying. Yang Ying sighed. This small plaza only housed his ship and the ships of potential allies.
There was no way he could allow the ape-men to hijack a Valkyrie. Summoning a large force from his Pocket Universe was also inadvisable. Setting aside the suffering people and the bodyguard beside him, even this small plaza was blanketed by surveillance cameras from every angle.
Any abnormal activity here would only expose his secrets and cause greater trouble. "I can only rely on the existing forces... and my sword now!" Yang Ying used the brief pause to adjust his mindset.
The Pocket Universe was difficult to comprehend and impossible to expose to others, but Psionics and swordsmanship were understandable. He continuously pushed himself to become stronger precisely to handle situations where using the Pocket Universe was impractical. "They're here!" Yang Ying blinked, retrieving his silver light-saber from the Pocket Universe and concealing it in his sleeve.
A powerfully built High-Grade Ape-man, covered in thick fur and clad in sleek combat gear, emerged from the corridor, leading a squad of similarly robust regular ape-men soldiers. The High-Grade Ape-man’s attire differed slightly from the regulars, appearing more solemn and ornate. The one before them had pauldrons protecting its shoulders, decorated with short, five-colored tassels that didn't impede movement.
Its black, skin-tight suit outlined the musculature and even the veins beneath its hide. A light-saber and a laser pistol were holstered at its waist. Although it saw Yang Ying and the bodyguard, it showed no particular reaction, treating them as if they were ordinary people.
This was because, the moment Yang Ying sensed danger, he had instantly employed his Breath Concealment Technique. For other awakened beings whose cultivation levels were similar to his, distinguishing him from an ordinary person was nearly impossible—and the High-Grade Ape-man before him was clearly no exception, viewing him as a commoner. However, the ape-men had advanced too quickly; Yang Ying's troops hadn't had time to deploy from the vessels.
At this moment, Yang Ying’s side was at an absolute disadvantage. The leading High-Grade Ape-man felt no danger; it merely spat out a few guttural words in the ape tongue, ordering the regular ape-men beside it to execute everyone in the small plaza with their laser pistols. It then turned its attention to the Valkyrie frigates docked nearby, clearly finding those warships appealing.
Seeing the High-Grade Ape-man relax its guard, a cold glint flashed in Yang Ying’s eyes. With a flick of his hand, he drew the light-saber hilt from his sleeve, snapped it open with a Zzzla sound. Just then, the regular ape-men had clustered together and raised their laser pistols, preparing to fire.
The High-Grade Ape-man's ears caught the familiar sound of a light-saber, causing it to start in alarm. It turned its head back only to see Yang Ying already leaping into the air! (I posted a few minutes later yesterday, breaking the record of at least two updates a day since this book was uploaded.
Sigh, a moment of sadness. Also, requesting recommendation votes!)
