In broad daylight, under the very heavens, they dared to openly burgle and peep into rooms—the audacity was simply unbelievable!
Betty eyed Robin with a measure of disbelief, but Robin merely spared her a glance before returning to her book, completely ignoring Betty.
Betty was furious, thinking to herself: Why are today's thieves so arrogant??
Wait? Isn't the book in her hand mine? Betty realized then that the book Robin was holding was hers, and her anger intensified.
What should I do? Betty found herself perplexed.
Should I report her to the teacher? But what if she runs off the moment I leave?
Perhaps I should subdue her first, but I'm just a mage, and I can't use magic here in my own dorm. Can I really capture her? What if I alert her to my intentions? Could she be carrying some kind of weapon?
For a moment, Betty was lost in thought. This was the first time she had encountered such a situation; she had absolutely no experience dealing with it.
Fortunately, this stalemate didn't last long, because Angelia returned with the food.
“Angelia, something terrible has happened! A thief has entered our dorm!” Betty exclaimed with excitement upon seeing Angelia enter, thinking: Our protector is here; let's see how smug you are now!
“A thief?” Angelia paused at first, then looked toward Robin, and immediately smiled, knowing that Betty had misunderstood.
However, even though she knew the truth, Angelia didn't explain right away because her roommate was the type who loved to "get to the bottom of things." The more you engaged with her, the more endless talk she produced.
And Angelia was someone who preferred not to speak much!
“Robin, time to eat!” Angelia placed the retrieved meals on her own desk and spoke to Robin, who was reading.
“You two know each other?” Betty asked, pointing at Robin with surprise.
Angelia just offered a light smile, saying nothing. She felt it was best to share as little as possible about this with Betty. If she revealed Robin’s true background, given Betty’s personality, she was sure to badger her relentlessly!
By then, Robin had placed the book back where it belonged. She glanced at the food Angelia had laid out on the desk, looking somewhat hesitant.
Angelia had portioned the food according to her own appetite, never considering Robin’s actual intake. The amount she brought back—and this isn't an exaggeration—wasn't even enough to fill a gap between Robin's teeth! Such a small portion wouldn't satisfy Robin; it would only tease her appetite.
Angelia noticed the subtle change in Robin’s expression and asked, puzzled, “Is it not to your liking?”
Robin looked at Angelia, not wishing to offend her kindness, so she pulled over a chair and sat down, only remarking quietly, “It’s a bit meager!”
Robin knew she was currently on a mission and had to maintain a good relationship with others—this was the task assigned to her by her Master!
Angelia clearly couldn’t grasp Robin’s meaning, as in her eyes, this amount of food was plenty for two people.
“Betty, have you eaten? Do you want to join us?” Angelia asked Betty, who was still somewhat stunned.
“You two go ahead, I just finished eating!” Betty said somewhat dejectedly, sitting down on her own bed.
“Then let’s eat!” Angelia said to Robin, extending the chopsticks toward her.
Robin didn't stand on ceremony and began eating first.
“Angelia, what’s wrong with your face?” Betty suddenly asked. She had only just noticed a faint bruise on Angelia’s cheek.
“N-nothing, I just bumped into something,” Angelia casually fabricated an excuse, not wanting Betty to know that the mark on her face was the result of a kick from Robin.
“I heard you skipped class this morning?” Betty continued, her tone unhurried.
Angelia, having just picked up a bite of food, nearly spat it out before she could swallow.
“How did you know?” Angelia asked, startled.
She and Betty weren't in the same class, and the "morning class" often had people skipping since there was no supervising teacher, so it rarely drew attention. But how could Betty know? Even if news traveled fast, it shouldn't be this quick, right?
“It seems the whole school knows about it,” Betty replied, still speaking slowly and deliberately.
Angelia nearly choked. She thought to herself: Could I be that unlucky? I only skipped one session, and it was an unsupervised "morning class," how could the entire school know?
As if sensing Angelia’s inner questioning, Betty continued, “Because you are famous, and a pillar of our school, any unusual action from you receives special scrutiny.”
So that was it! Angelia finally understood.
“Oh, right, your head teacher came to talk to me just now, saying you’ve seemed a bit off lately—distracted in class, and now you skipped today. He asked me what’s going on with you?” Betty’s voice remained even.
“Is that so?” Angelia picked up a piece of food and asked very casually, “What did you tell him?”
Angelia wasn't actually afraid of what her head teacher might do or any potential punishment. She was a strong contender for the academy's rankings; frankly speaking, in the eyes of the school administration, she was more important than a teacher. This was why her head teacher sought out her roommate, Betty, for a conversation instead of approaching Angelia herself.
“I thought your head teacher seemed quite concerned about the matter, and fearing he’d keep asking endless questions, I just made up a random reason.”
Angelia genuinely seemed unconcerned and didn't press the issue further, instead focusing on her breakfast.
“Aren’t you going to ask what I said?” Betty seemed intentionally eager to pique Angelia’s interest.
“What did you say?” Angelia asked, showing a slight willingness to play along.
“Nothing much, I just said you recently suffered a crushing heartbreak, and now that you’ve found a new boyfriend, you probably skipped class this morning to go on a date!” Betty continued to speak without haste.
“Ptu~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~”
“Ahem~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~”
Angelia spat out her mouthful of food; this time, she was genuinely choked by it. She turned to look at Betty, feeling an intense urge to throttle her right then and there!
Unexpectedly, Betty acted completely unconcerned, even sticking her tongue out at Angelia before gesturing with her hand toward Angelia’s side.
Angelia looked utterly incensed, but she followed the direction of Betty’s finger anyway.
She didn't realize what she was looking at until she saw it—and then she was stunned!
Clearly visible, Robin was staring at her with a pair of bizarre eyes. And smeared all over Robin’s small face was the food Angelia had just forcefully ejected!
At this point, Angelia was truly speechless...
