During their casual talk, Mo Han and the others learned that the Chairman’s name was Liu Boran, also a native of the Tianlong Empire, who had been at the Mercenary Guild in Tianlong City for five years and was highly regarded by the General Guild.
Not long after, the staff member who had left earlier returned, holding several documents. He approached Liu Boran respectfully, handed over the papers, and then stepped back. Liu Boran then carried the few documents over to Mo Han and his group, opening with a smile, “Heh heh, there are three suitable missions for you now. All are C-rank, and I believe completing them shouldn't be an issue given your strength. Take a look.”
Hearing Liu Boran’s words, Mo Han and the others quickly expressed their thanks and began studying the mission briefings seriously.
After deliberating for a while, Mo Han stated decisively, “Ugh, there’s nothing suitable for us here. It’s either body-guarding for someone or protecting some nobles. Look at this one—escorting goods to the Aoyue Empire. At the speed this cargo travels, the round trip will take at least three months. It’s a complete waste of time, and it offers absolutely no benefit to our training. Although the reward isn't small, we certainly aren't lacking in money right now.”
Mo Han’s suggestion earned nods of agreement from Daili and the others. After all, they had set out on this journey precisely to temper their cultivation. Escorting cargo or guarding others truly wouldn't help their progress much. With this in mind, Daili spoke with some difficulty, “Then what do you suggest we do?” Upon hearing Daili’s question, everyone turned their gaze toward Mo Han, hoping he had a better idea.
Just then, Mo Han appeared to think deeply for a moment before smiling and saying, “Let me go talk to him. Perhaps there is a way.”
Having said that, Mo Han walked directly over to Liu Boran, who was busy handling other matters, and announced, “Chairman Liu, we have reviewed the mission documents you provided.”
Upon hearing Mo Han’s reply, Liu Boran quickly smiled and said, “How was it? Did you select any suitable missions? I can have someone register it for you immediately.”
Mo Han heard this and replied somewhat awkwardly, “Actually, I came over to tell you that we feel none of those missions are suitable for us. Could you possibly find us some others?” Hearing Mo Han’s response, Liu Boran looked troubled and said, “These missions are already above your rank, and among the C-rank missions, these offer relatively high experience points and rewards. The other missions simply aren't as good. I don't have any better ones on hand right now.”
Hearing Liu Boran’s explanation, Mo Han considered for a moment and then spoke, “Chairman Liu, our true purpose for coming out this time is to enhance our cultivation and quickly advance our team’s rank. However, these few missions offer very little help toward that goal. So, I wanted to ask if it would be possible for us to take on a mission higher than C-rank, perhaps a B-rank mission? We are willing to put up ten times the standard mission deposit to accept such a task. Could you help us with this?” Hearing Mo Han’s proposal, Liu Boran looked troubled again. “Requesting a mission two ranks above your standing has never been done before in our Mercenary Guild; I’m afraid I cannot assist you. Furthermore, you must understand that while there is only one rank difference between B-rank and C-rank missions, the difficulty difference is substantial. The higher you go, the harder it gets. If you put up ten times the deposit, I fear you will only be throwing that money away.”
Hearing the explanation, Mo Han became anxious. “I would not do something I wasn't confident about. Chairman Liu, let me tell you the truth: all the members of our mercenary group have already reached the Sword Master standard, and our mages have attained the level of Junior Magus. We fully meet the requirements for a B-rank Mercenary Group. What we currently lack are suitable missions to rapidly elevate our mercenary group’s rank, which is why I have taken the liberty of making this request. I sincerely hope you can help us, please.”
Hearing Mo Han’s words, Chairman Liu looked suspicious. “Are you telling the truth? All your members have already achieved Sword Master cultivation?” Mo Han immediately nodded upon hearing this. “It is absolutely true. If you don't believe me, feel free to test us. I hope you can help us.”
Hearing Mo Han’s reply, Liu Boran quickly shook his head and smiled gently. “No need. I believe what you are saying. It’s just that we have no precedent for this in our Mercenary Guild. Give me some time to consider it. I will consult with a few of our managers, and I will give you an answer shortly.”
Hearing his reply, Mo Han smiled eagerly. “Then I shall trouble you. I will wait in the main hall for your good news.”
With that, without giving the other man a chance to reply, Mo Han quickly turned and left.
Liu Boran, who had intended to say more, saw Mo Han’s hasty departure and naturally understood his intent. He couldn't help but give a wry smile and stopped speaking, turning around immediately.
He was clearly going off to discuss Mo Han’s request with the managers.
Seeing Mo Han return, Daili anxiously asked, “How was it? Did Chairman Liu agree to our request?”
Latin and the others also looked at Mo Han with worried expressions.
Mo Han saw them and shook his head with a smile. “I don’t know if you can call it an agreement. He said he needs to discuss it with a few managers before giving us an answer. So, everyone will have to wait here patiently.”
Hearing Mo Han’s words, Daili and the others knew they couldn't rush things and resigned themselves to waiting there helplessly.
After a long wait, just as Mo Han and his group were about to grow disappointed, Liu Boran walked in, his face full of smiles. Seeing this, Mo Han’s anxious heart finally settled down.
It must be fine, otherwise, Liu Boran wouldn't have that expression.
Sure enough, Liu Boran approached Mo Han and his group and stated, “Young man, I have discussed this with a few managers and explained your situation. Everyone has agreed to your request. However, you must still pay a mission deposit that is five times the reward amount. Do you agree?” Hearing this, Mo Han immediately replied happily, “Of course! Thank you very much, Chairman Liu. Thank you for being willing to help us.”
Daili and the others also thanked Liu Boran profusely.
