But Liu Yanran completely ignored all of this, tugging on Mo Han’s arm as she led him away. “Stop staring, or your eyes will fall out. She’s not paying you any attention. Let’s go.”
Mo Han could only shake his head helplessly and follow Liu Yanran as she departed.
Halfway there, Mo Han couldn't help but ask Liu Yanran, “I’ve always found one thing strange: why didn’t the Second Prince of the Beast Tribe show up? Isn't he an ardent supporter of the war too?” Hearing this, Liu Yanran smiled and replied, “Word is the Second Prince was injured in an assassination attempt yesterday and is currently recuperating. How could he possibly have the energy to deal with you?”
Mo Han interjected, “What a coincidence, getting injured right when the negotiations were about to start?” Liu Yanran said mysteriously, “Heh, what do you think? He probably offended too many people in his usual dealings, which led to the assassination attempt.”
Mo Han suspected this incident had something to do with Liu Yanran, but since she was unwilling to admit it, he couldn't do anything about it. He just smiled and stopped talking, though he felt secretly grateful.
After walking a bit further, Mo Han asked, “Right, Yanran, what’s this all about? You’ve been so secretive.”
Liu Yanran smiled and replied, “It’s nothing much, just that my Master wants to see you.”
Mo Han casually said, “Oh, so your Master wants to see me? Wait a minute, what did you say? Your Master wants to see me?” Mo Han exclaimed in surprise.
Hearing this, Liu Yanran nodded with a smile. “Yes, my Master was quite satisfied with your performance in the Beast Tribe Grand Hall. As soon as it ended, she told me to find you right away because she wishes to meet you.”
Mo Han gave a wry smile. “Why so suddenly? I’m completely unprepared!” Liu Yanran looked puzzled. “What preparation is needed? Just show up, that’s all!” Mo Han quickly shook his head. “Of course, preparation is needed! Your Master is practically your guardian, isn't she? I can’t just go empty-handed! That would leave a terrible impression, and if she gets displeased and forbids you from marrying me, I’d lose out terribly—I’m waiting to marry you! Wait, I need to think about what gift to bring your Master first.”
Hearing Mo Han’s answer, Liu Yanran’s expression turned sweet. “No need, my Master isn’t that materialistic. She’ll be happy just seeing you; your intention is enough.” Without giving Mo Han a chance to argue further, she immediately pulled him along and walked forward.
Mo Han had no choice but to follow Liu Yanran ahead.
Before long, they arrived in front of a general store. The owner and most of the clerks were humans, but there were quite a few Beast Tribe staff mixed in. Upon seeing Liu Yanran enter, everyone respectfully bowed and greeted her. Liu Yanran returned the greetings with nods. When they noticed Mo Han beside her, everyone exchanged curious glances, wondering who this Mo Han was to be walking alongside their Saintess. However, their usual rigorous training ensured they only looked over once before returning to their tasks.
Reaching the inner courtyard, Liu Yanran smiled and explained, “This is our Church’s liaison point in the Beast Tribe’s Behemoth City. It’s been open for quite some time, and my Master and the others are all staying here this time.”
Mo Han nodded upon hearing this. “Resources are scarce for the Beastmen here. Opening a simple general store selling common human resources can sometimes yield huge profits. It’s indeed a wise choice.”
Liu Yanran merely smiled without replying, leading Mo Han straight to the entrance of a secluded small courtyard. This area was much quieter; compared to the bustle outside, it was truly a world apart. Four women dressed in black stood guard at the courtyard entrance. Mo Han recognized the attire of the Dark Church immediately and understood this must be where Liu Yanran and the others resided.
Seeing Mo Han and Liu Yanran approach, the women at the door quickly bowed. “Greetings, Saintess.” Liu Yanran nodded and asked, “Is Master inside?” One of the black-clad women replied respectfully, “The Cult Master has been waiting for the Saintess for quite some time.” Liu Yanran nodded in acknowledgement. “Very well, I understand. Continue guarding this place and do not let outsiders enter.”
With that, she led Mo Han into the courtyard.
As they stepped inside, a melodious voice drifted from the house: “Is that Yanran? Child, why did you take so long? You made your Master worry.” Although the words carried a tone of admonishment, the delivery was entirely devoid of blame, filled instead with deep affection.
Liu Yanran quickly replied happily, “Master, I’ve brought him. We were delayed by a small matter on the road; I apologize for worrying you.”
The voice responded, “Oh, come in. Your Martial Uncle and several Elders are here as well.”
Liu Yanran said no more, releasing the hand she had been holding onto Mo Han. She leaned in and whispered softly, “Those Elders are all old relics; you need to be mentally prepared.”
Mo Han smiled, saying, “What’s there to fear? Your husband has seen every storm imaginable. Even those Beastmen in the Grand Hall couldn't touch me; I certainly won't fear these little minnows.”
Hearing Mo Han’s words, Liu Yanran shyly shot him an annoyed look. “I haven't even agreed to marry you yet, you braggart.”
Mo Han quickly feigned shock. “What? Didn’t you already agree? Are you going back on your word?” Liu Yanran asked, puzzled, “When did I agree? I don’t recall.”
Mo Han acted indignant. “Didn’t you just ask me to come see your Master?” Liu Yanran nodded affirmatively. “Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?” Mo Han continued, “And your Master is equivalent to your parent, right?” Liu Yanran still nodded.
Mo Han said cheerfully, “Exactly!”
This left Liu Yanran completely bewildered. “What are you talking about? I still don’t understand?” Mo Han smiled. “Let’s go in first, or your Master will be waiting anxiously. I’ll tell you once we’re inside.” Knowing further questioning would yield no results, Liu Yanran simply nodded and led him into the room.
Upon entering, Mo Han saw a beautiful middle-aged woman seated in the center of the room, exuding an air of majesty, staring intently at him. Beside her sat a figure entirely clad in black—Jelay the Blood Killer, an old acquaintance of Mo Han’s. Upon seeing Mo Han, Jelay merely let out a cold snort and ignored him. On either side of the room sat several old men, all appearing listless and staring coldly at him.
