Having braced themselves for certain death, expecting to scatter and fight for a sliver of survival, Gao Feng, the Wei brothers, and Chen Gu froze when they saw no less than six flying knives suspended and circling Luo Feng's body. Chen Gu even blinked twice in quick succession; surely, they hadn't misread the scene... those knives were truly floating, unsupported by anything!
"A Psychic!"
"Telekinesis!"
"Luo Feng is a Psychic?"
A cascade of thoughts flooded Gao Feng and the others. Their faces flushed crimson with excitement. Gao Feng bellowed, "Follow Luo Feng's lead, stick with him!"
"Rumble~~" The monstrous horde charged, causing the fractured concrete ground to crack, even shaking dust from the derelict structures nearby. Ancient texts spoke of a 'thousand horse charge,' but every single beast here was ten or a hundred times more formidable than a warhorse of old. A stampede of over a thousand such creatures was far more terrifying than any ancient cavalry rush.
"Left!" Luo Feng roared.
Instantly, the rest of the Fire Hammer Squad followed Luo Feng's sharp turn, surging to the left. Wei Qing carried Zhang Ke, who was already bleeding profusely, on his back.
"Hiss~" "Roar~"... The stench of the monstrous beasts saturated the air. By running left instead of fleeing, Luo Feng's group instantly collided with the pursuing horde. The foul, beastly odor was thick enough to taste. Gritting his teeth, Luo Feng's gaze turned icy cold, and the six flying knives hovering within a ten-meter radius suddenly sprang into action!
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
The six blades blurred into streaks of phantom light. With a sickening thwack, a flying knife pierced the skull of an approaching Lion-Mastiff mid-stride, spattering brain matter alongside it. Under the precise control of mental power, this single blade, still moving at incredible speed, instantly plunged through the head of the next beast!
Six blades! In the blink of an eye, the more than thirty monsters closest to Luo Feng had all suffered fatal cranial punctures!
Blood and gore sprayed everywhere.
"Roar~~"
"Rumble~~" Amidst the agonizing roars of the dying beasts, the thirty-odd monsters running at full speed collapsed heavily. Their momentum carried their bodies sliding another ten meters across the ground. In their wake, the fleeing Fire Hammer Squad left a trail littered with the corpses of slain monsters.
Gao Feng, Chen Gu, the Wei brothers, and the ashen-faced Zhang Ke could only stare in shock.
They knew Psychics were powerful, but... this was utterly monstrous!
Vwoom vwoom vwoom~~
The six flying knives transformed entirely into streaks of light and shadow. Anything within nearly twenty meters that resembled a monster was instantly skewered through the head. Such precise control was terrifying to witness!
"The rate at which this drains mental energy is too fast," Luo Feng thought with alarm. Each time a knife punched through a monster's skull, it consumed a significant amount of energy. These beasts’ craniums were far harder than ordinary stone. Having killed just over fifty creatures in quick succession, his mental reserves were already noticeably depleted.
Chen Gu, trailing behind Luo Feng, gasped, "Damn, this Psychic is too broken. He could wipe out a thousand monsters easily!"
"Stop wasting breath! This much commotion," Gao Feng snapped back, "the longer we drag this out, the more beasts it will attract! It’s a thousand now; soon it will be five thousand swarming us. Go longer, and it could be ten thousand, including quite a few Beast Generals! Do you think a Psychic kills monsters without expending mental energy?" Gao Feng laughed while berating him.
To think the Fire Hammer Squad had the leisure to chat while under siege by monsters spoke volumes... Gao Feng, Chen Gu, and the others truly felt no pressure; every single approaching monster was being dispatched by the whirling blades.
"Over the wall," Luo Feng commanded.
The charging Fire Hammer Squad reached a retaining wall. They leaped one after another. The beast horde behind them, though severely thinned, remained bloodthirsty and fearless, continuing their assault with furious snarls. Any creature that strayed into the zone covered by Luo Feng's flying knives was instantly perforated!
It was important to remember: Luo Feng's physical conditioning barely touched the threshold of 'Advanced Warrior Level.' Generally, a Psychic’s mental aptitude exceeds their physical level by two tiers. Therefore, his mental power was likely at the bare minimum of 'Intermediate Warlord Level.' Psychics were the most terrifying class of martial artists, capable of easily annihilating foes of the same tier.
With telekinesis, Luo Feng could stay far from the monsters and simply bleed them dry with his knives!
However, at this moment, while ensuring maximum cutting power, Luo Feng could only safely utilize two blades simultaneously! The more knives he deployed, the weaker the individual force of each one became. Luo Feng could use a hundred knives at once, but then the force would be negligible, and precision might even suffer.
With six knives, Luo Feng could guarantee that each blade was powerful enough to handle an 'Elementary Beast General,' maintaining precision.
With two knives, Luo Feng could guarantee maximum power, capable of dealing with an 'Intermediate Beast General.'
"Rumble~~" The fearless monsters smashed through the retaining wall.
Thwack! Thwack!
As soon as they neared the rushing Fire Hammer Squad, the beasts were annihilated, their blood and brains scattering. The corpses collapsing caused momentary chaos in the pack behind them, and as the Fire Hammer Squad rounded a distant street corner, they managed to shake off a significant portion of the pursuit.
The Tiger Tooth Squad was already far ahead. The Fire Hammer Squad had diverted a massive number of monsters, thinning the density along several surrounding routes, allowing the Tiger Tooth members to advance quickly. When they reached a new area thick with beasts, the Tiger Tooth Squad's progress slowed again as they proceeded with extreme caution.
"What happened just now? You didn't kill a single one?" the Tiger Tooth Captain frowned, asking.
"Captain, I aimed for Fire Hammer's leader, Gao Feng, earlier. But he happened to be dismembering a monster corpse. At the exact moment he exerted force with his dagger, his body shifted, and the armor-piercing round whizzed past his head. It severely injured another Fire Hammer member, blowing off that teammate’s arm instantly; whether he lives or dies is uncertain," reported the slender Axiao.
"Gao Feng was lucky then."
Zhang Zehu scowled, turning to another man. "Dongzi, I told you to kill Luo Feng. Why isn't he dead?"
Because the distance was great and the bullet speed was high, only the two snipers, peering through their optical scopes, could clearly discern the instantaneous situation.
"That Luo Feng..." the shooter named 'Dongzi' hesitated before saying, "He was also very lucky. As I fired, he was skinning a monster. He took the opportunity to smoothly swing his blade and intercept my armor-piercing round." Ah Dong could only offer this explanation; he certainly didn't believe Luo Feng's nerve response speed was enough to parry an armor-piercing shell.
It could only be luck!
After all, splitting an armor-piercing round required an almost absurd level of eyesight and knife precision.
"Damn, that Luo Feng has some serious juju luck," Zhang Zehu cursed under his breath.
"But don't worry," Sniper Dongzi chuckled, "Our previous four-shot attack on the herd has already directed the horde toward the only human presence they could find nearby—the Fire Hammer Squad. With over a thousand monsters converging, the Fire Hammer Squad is guaranteed to be finished, no matter how strong they are!"
"No!"
The Tiger Tooth Captain shook his head. "Not necessarily. If the Fire Hammer Squad scatters to flee, perhaps one or two might survive!" With that, the Captain showed a faint smile. "Of course, even if one or two live, they pose no threat to our Tiger Tooth Squad."
"Captain, perhaps they will bump into a War God level existence who can save them," the one-eyed middle-aged man chuckled dryly.
"In a county town, and in such a short time frame, encountering a War God... and having that War God willing to help. That probability is far lower than winning the lottery," the Tiger Tooth Captain grinned wryly. "Alright, let's move out, everyone. That old thing is still active. We need to track it down sooner rather than later."
"Yes."
The Tiger Tooth Squad immediately advanced.
On the rooftop of an ordinary six-story residential building, Luo Feng's group rapidly reached the top floor.
Click! The stairwell door leading to the roof was immediately slammed shut and secured.
"Quick, lay Old Zhang down," Chen Gu urged.
"Get the medicine," Gao Feng called out anxiously.
Given Zhang Ke's severe injuries, he would bleed out completely if the bleeding wasn't stopped. Fortunately, it had been staunched moments ago. However, such a grievous wound required immediate, basic treatment... After all, reaching the nearest military supply base from this County City 0201 would take a full three days on foot.
Zhang Ke, in his current condition, could never survive a three-day trek.
"Old Zhang, hold this in your mouth to replenish energy," Chen Gu said, placing a pill between Zhang Ke’s lips.
"Wei Tie, tend to Zhang Ke's wound carefully," Gao Feng commanded immediately.
The members of the Fire Hammer Squad busied themselves caring for Zhang Ke. With the timely energy boost, the pale Zhang Ke's brow relaxed, and as the nursing progressed, the team members gradually let out sighs of relief.
"That's a relief." Luo Feng secretly breathed out, looking at the ashen-faced Brother Zhang. Seeing his entire right arm, including half his shoulder, gone, a wave of guilt washed over him. "Brother Zhang won't be able to use his spear again; his martial artist career is over!" Luo Feng believed the Tiger Tooth Squad’s attack was almost certainly because of him.
Luo Feng felt intensely guilty towards Brother Zhang.
"Tiger Tooth Squad! Zhang Zehu!" Luo Feng’s heart blazed with fury. "I, Luo Feng, swear, I will make you repay this blood debt, let you know the taste of utter annihilation!!!"
"The Tiger Tooth Squad, those bastards, they wanted to wipe out our entire Fire Hammer Squad," Chen Gu couldn't help but curse.
"Damn Tiger Tooth, we must have revenge!" Wei Tie growled low.
"Those bastards, I, Gao Feng, will make them regret it." Gao Feng clenched his fists, then looked at Luo Feng. "Luckily we had Luo Feng this time, otherwise we would have..." He paused, "Right, Luo Feng, how could you control objects remotely?"
At that moment, everyone else in the Fire Hammer Squad, including the gravely wounded Zhang Ke lying on the ground, turned their gazes toward Luo Feng.
