The moment they stepped into the Mercenary Guild, they saw a crowd gathered in an open space, shouting, punctuated by the sounds of fierce fighting.
Mo Han and his companions approached curiously. As soon as they saw the situation, Mo Han’s temper flared. Several men were ganging up on Latin and Rock, attacking them relentlessly. Latin and Rock were already covered in wounds, while a dozen others stood nearby, shouting, “Heineken, don't kill them! We won’t have any fun watching then.”
Someone from the sidelines yelled at Latin and Rock, “How about it? If you kneel down and beg for mercy right now, we’ll let you go.”
Then the whole group erupted in loud laughter.
Seeing this, Mo Han was instantly consumed by rage. He roared, “All of you, *** stop right now!”
He pushed his way into the crowd, followed closely by Deli and Anna, their faces flushed with anger as they squeezed through. The men attacking Latin and Rock paused upon hearing Mo Han’s shout and turned to look at him.
One of the onlookers spoke up, “Little Priest, this is none of your business. You’d better leave quickly before you get accidentally hurt.”
Mo Han ignored him, his voice chillingly calm. “I’m giving you one chance now: apologize to my two friends. Otherwise, you will all pay a terrible price today.”
Hearing Mo Han, the entire group burst into laughter again.
One of them looked at Mo Han with contempt. “Kid, do you even know who we are? I’m in a good mood today, so get lost quickly, or don’t blame me if I take care of you too.”
Latin and Rock staggered back to stand beside Mo Han. Latin’s face was etched with shame. “Boss, I’m sorry. Latin has disgraced you.”
Mo Han quickly reassured them. “No, you both did wonderfully. Go to the side and rest. Watch how I get satisfaction for you.”
With that, Mo Han raised his hand, and a 7th-level advanced light-elemental restoration magic, Holy Light, struck Latin and Rock. The wounds on their bodies began to heal visibly and rapidly. In a short time, all the injuries scabbed over.
Seeing Mo Han exhibit this power, the surrounding crowd gasped in astonishment, with someone crying out in shock, “7th-level Light Magic, Holy Light!”
At this sight, the men who had been laughing fell silent. It was common knowledge that 7th-level Light Magic could only be cast by Light Mages who were at least High Archmages, and no one dared to slight a High Archmage.
It was then that the first speaker spoke again, his tone instantly respectful. “Respected Archmage, I believe there must be some misunderstanding between us. This was all a mistake. I am Kailog, the leader of the Grizzly Mercenary Group.”
Mo Han sneered, “Is that so? I already gave you a chance; you just didn’t cherish it. You can’t blame me.”
Kailog heard the coldness in Mo Han’s voice and knew this situation could not be resolved peacefully. He spoke, “Archmage sir, we don’t wish to cause trouble for the Church of Light, and we hope you won’t make things difficult for us. Besides, if it truly comes to a fight, you might not necessarily have the upper hand.”
Mo Han scoffed, “Is that so? Then open your eyes wide and see clearly.”
With that, Mo Han turned and called out to Xiao Mo, “Xiao Mo, go and teach them a proper lesson. Just don’t kill them.”
The onlookers were puzzled when they saw Mo Han speaking to a small dog, assuming he had lost his temper from anger. But when Xiao Mo heard Mo Han’s command, it let out a soft whimper. A faint yellow glow enveloped Xiao Mo, and in moments, it returned to its original size. The aura unique to a High-Tier Magical Beast radiated from Xiao Mo, instantly pushing the onlookers aside.
Witnessing this transformation, Kailog stammered, his voice trembling, “Earth Bear! It’s an Earth Bear!”
Hearing Kailog’s shout, everyone nearby scrambled far away. It was no joke—that was a 9th-level High-Tier Magical Beast. A single touch from it could be fatal. Why would they stay put and wait for death? At that moment, Xiao Mo, now fully grown, fixed its large, copper-bell eyes menacingly upon Kailog and his group. Kailog and his subordinates were already weak in the knees. Even Kak and his group had suffered greatly against the Earth Bear in the past; what chance did they have? The outcome was obvious.
Kailog spoke, his voice shaking, “Don’t act recklessly! This is the Mercenary Guild. If you kill us without cause, you will be hunted down. Furthermore, my uncle is the Great Archmage of the Azure Water Empire, Great Archmage Gu Fan. If you harm me, my uncle will certainly not let you off.”
Mo Han sneered upon hearing this. “Is that so? A Great Archmage, you say.”
Kailog thought he saw a glimmer of hope in Mo Han’s reaction, assuming the man was cautious of his uncle, considering there were only five known Great Archmages on the continent. He quickly added, “Yes, my uncle is the Protector Mage of the Azure Water Empire, highly valued by the Emperor. If you let us go now, I’ll pretend none of this happened, and my uncle won’t trouble you.”
Mo Han’s voice turned cold. “Since he is the Protector Mage of the Azure Water Empire, then you deserve death even more.”
Mo Han spoke coldly to Xiao Mo, “Xiao Mo, beat this despicable trash until he’s nearly dead. I’ll take full responsibility for whatever happens. Afterwards, I’ll give you extra rations tonight.”
Kailog’s face turned ashen as Mo Han spoke. Xiao Mo was already preparing to attack when a shout cut through the air: “Stop!”
Mo Han turned towards the sound and saw a figure cloaked in faint blue battle qi swiftly flying toward them. When the figure landed, it was a middle-aged man of about forty. The man immediately addressed Mo Han, “I am Liu Qingyuan, the Vice Guild Master of the Mafa City Mercenary Guild. Little Priest brother, are you unaware that fighting between mercenary groups is forbidden inside the Guild?”
Mo Han scoffed, “Is that so? Forbidden fighting, you say? Then where were you when my two brothers were being ganged up on? And now you suddenly appear.”
Hearing Mo Han’s mocking words, Liu Qingyuan’s face flushed. He explained, “I was just discussing the matter of exterminating the monsters with the Lord of Mafa City, so I was unable to intervene immediately. I offer my sincerest apologies. I request, for the sake of the Mercenary Guild, that you refrain from causing further trouble here for the moment. As for these few individuals, our Guild will handle them with the utmost severity.”
Liu Qingyuan stated earnestly, “If you absolutely must seek revenge, please wait until they have left the Guild premises before acting. I swear I will not interfere then.”
Hearing Liu Qingyuan’s words, Mo Han calmed down somewhat. He considered the situation. “If these few people refuse to leave and just squat here, then I’d have to wait indefinitely inside.”
Liu Qingyuan felt a wave of awkwardness. There was indeed no rule stating that mercenary groups couldn't stay in the Guild for extended periods. If these people insisted on remaining, would he be obligated to host them? And judging by the current atmosphere, these individuals were clearly intent on staying.
He said reluctantly, “This... I cannot guarantee that.”
