For within these thousands of square kilometers, the land was utterly desolate. Between the plains lay numerous tiers of magical beasts. The Ao Yue Empire had once attempted to send troops to occupy the plains, but the twenty thousand strong army was forced into a hasty retreat after advancing less than 200 kilometers, losing nearly 50,000 soldiers.
It was rumored that the magical beasts along the plains had incessantly harassed the army. Faced with the sheer number of beasts, the soldiers found no rest day or night, while the supply lines were constantly ambushed, forcing the collapse of their formation. Since then, the Adventurer's Plain became a vacuum zone, subsequently transforming into a haven for various adventurers.
Because it was rumored that the highest-level magical beast found on the plain was only a Level [X] beast; no one had ever encountered anything above Level [Y].
After a journey spanning over a month, Mo Han and the others finally reached Maya City, the westernmost city of the Ao Yue Empire. Crossing past Maya City meant plunging directly into the Adventurer's Plain. The group needed to restock on essential supplies here before they could proceed further.
However, a new problem immediately arose. After paying the mission deposit, the money they had left was already meager. Having endured another month on the road, upon settling the rent in Maya City, they were left with fewer than twenty gold coins—hardly enough for provisions. Yet, without provisions, entering the plain was impossible.
As everyone sat around the room, completely stumped, Kaili hesitated for a moment, then resolutely took off the jade bracelet on her wrist and handed it to Latin, urging him to sell it for supplies.
Latin and Jack immediately cried out in alarm, "No! That's the only memento left by your parents; how can you sell it?"
Latin became even more agitated, shouting, "Then sell my sword! If that’s not enough, we’ll sell Jack’s staff too!" Just then, Mo Han's voice cut through, barking, "What an idiot."
Ignoring Latin's murderous glare, he continued, "That’s great, isn't it? You, the swordsman, sell your sword, and you, the mage, sell your staff. Why don't Rock and Anna sell their weapons too? Then what’s the point of going to the Adventurer’s Plain? Even if you get there, what will you use to kill the magical beasts? Latin, are you planning to use your Dou Qi? Or do you want us all to die out there?" Although his harsh words flushed Latin’s face crimson with shame, he understood that Mo Han was speaking the undeniable truth and could offer no rebuttal.
Kaili interjected, "Alright, stop arguing. I am the leader, and you must listen to me. Latin, go ahead."
Just as Latin was still wavering, Mo Han called out, "Wait." Seeing everyone turn their curious gazes toward him, he smiled at Kaili and said, "While I told them not to sell their weapons, I didn't say you should sell your bracelet."
Latin, already boiling with frustration, demanded, "Then what do you suggest we do?" Mo Han completely disregarded him, turning to Kaili and saying, "I have something I can sell." In truth, the weapons, armor, and accessories he had collected on Flame Island had piled up into a small mountain; every single piece was an unparalleled treasure.
Saying this, he reached into the spatial ring on his hand and pulled out a white Knight Sword. The sight of the spatial ring made everyone in the room gasp loudly.
Kaili sharply hissed, "Shut up, all of you! Do you want to get yourselves killed?" She then nervously stepped to the door to check the hallway.
Returning inside, she let out a clear sigh of relief, "Luckily, the neighbors aren't around."
Mo Han asked in surprise, "Is it necessary to be so careful? It’s just a ring, isn't it?" Kaili looked at Mo Han as if he were an imbecile and said, "Jeez! Just a ring? You actually have the nerve to say you don't know the value of that ring? Do you realize that right now, across the entire Dragon Ascent Continent, there are fewer than a handful of spatial rings? Outside of royalty and the few supreme experts, the entire continent possesses no more than ten of them—each one is priceless, beyond measure. Do you think it's valuable or not?" "Ah! It’s really that valuable?" Mo Han’s face split into a grin so wide his mouth nearly drooled. He had at least twenty more spatial rings in his own inventory; that meant he was surely the richest person alive... He blissfully drifted off into a sweet dream.
"What's wrong with you?" Kaili noticed Mo Han hadn't reacted, his mouth stretched into a happy gape, almost drooling. She assumed he was stunned into silence by the ring's value.
Snapping back to reality, Mo Han mumbled, "Nothing," then handed the Knight Sword to Kaili. "Take this to sell; I don't need it anyway."
Rock, standing nearby, let out an impressed sigh upon seeing the sword: "What a fine sword."
Initially, everyone had been so captivated by Mo Han's spatial ring that no one had truly examined the sword.
Now, looking at it closely, they saw that the blue hilt was inlaid with a light-elemental magic crystal nearly the size of half a fist. The blade was etched with white magical runes, causing the metal itself to emit a faint, soft white glow—it was clearly enchanted by Light Magic. It was immediately apparent this was no ordinary item; that single light crystal alone could probably fetch over one hundred thousand gold coins.
Latin’s eyes turned completely red. As a swordsman, he naturally understood the sword's immense worth. With this weapon, his personal strength could immediately leap to the next tier, placing him among the ranks of High-Tier Swordsmen.
Kaili also stared at the sword with palpable excitement. For a swordswoman, the blade was practically a second life. To feign indifference upon seeing such a superb weapon would be a lie.
Yet, she still shook her head. "No, this sword is clearly extraordinary; we cannot sell it. Furthermore, as the leader, that responsibility naturally falls to me."
Looking at the stubborn Kaili, Mo Han felt a pang of tenderness in his heart. What a steadfast girl, bearing so much responsibility at such a young age. He couldn't help but blurt out, "That was before. You have suffered enough hardship. Now that I am here, your responsibility is my responsibility. You don't need to struggle so hard anymore; I will handle everything with you."
Mo Han’s direct yet deeply sincere words brought tears to the eyes of both Kaili and Anna.
Kaili, her eyes glistening, softly whispered to Mo Han, "Thank you."
Indeed, since that incident, she had been forced to manage everything herself, never allowing herself a moment of true rest. Girls her age across the continent were either basking in their parents' affection or enjoying the care of others. She had never known that feeling, but now, she deeply appreciated Mo Han’s protective care. After all, no matter how strong she was, she was still just a girl.
After speaking, Mo Han himself was surprised by the words he had uttered. This was almost a vow, a profound commitment, yet he felt not a shred of regret.
Seeing Kaili’s expression only solidified his resolve to help her. Mo Han looked at Kaili with deep affection and stated, "Rest assured, I won't let you endure such hardship again. You don't have to carry all that responsibility anymore."
Hearing Mo Han's declaration, the others in the room burst into applause. Anna spoke up, "Sister Kaili, I am so envious of you! Brother Mo Han cares for you so much."
This caused Kaili’s face to flush bright red, but she offered no denial, instead wearing an expression of pure happiness.
Kaili wondered privately, Was that a confession directed at me? Is this what love feels like? This feeling is truly blissful.
